Serious talks that Liverpool have hijacked our deal for Leon Bailey at the 11th hour.

Oh and Andy Grays son confirming Grealish is going and should be confirmed within the next few days.

What great times👍 Then again you can't expect top players to want to join when your captain and so called boyhood fan also ditches you, sets an alarming precedent. The 'big six' and there and will never be replaced, it's their world and we are just guests in it.

Chris mate calm down none of this has happend yet mate baily has signed I have heard. Also if Jack goes trust our great owners to get it right and buy top quality replacements. Remember a few years ago this club nearly went out of business the progress we have made is scary. Grelish or no grelish the clubs moving in the right direction!

2.) 03 Aug 2021 23:42:40
Leon baily signing the contract on youtube in 1 hour.

3.) 04 Aug 2021 06:56:35
Yea jumped the gun a bit there gents, seemed like it was all falling apart for a second😂. The sources are usually decent but reacted to some other news, put two and two together and got 5.

Think Grealish will be announced today or tomorrow👎.

4.) 04 Aug 2021 07:12:52
Done deal Chris

UTV.

5.) 04 Aug 2021 07:48:04
Contract signed by Bailey live on YouTube.

6.) 04 Aug 2021 08:03:59
Don’t know if it’s refreshing to see or a little bit of arrogance, but a player signing his deal live, with their agent doing a bit of a Q&A at the same time is definitely new😂.

7.) 04 Aug 2021 08:17:17
That’s a scary behind the striker 3 if Jack stays

UTV.

8.) 04 Aug 2021 09:37:18
Think he’s a goner Ally, really do, gutted about it as well.

9.) 04 Aug 2021 11:54:09
According to the Daily Mail, Jack is due in Manchester today to sign for City! Unless its more nonsense reporting he is gone!

10.) 04 Aug 2021 18:47:27
Had to read your post several times Chris. You’re normally very measured with your posts. Very unlike you fella. At least your follow up posts were more the old Chris.

02 Aug 2021 16:59:28
Showdown talks happening right now, whole team have come back out for their afternoon session, Lange and Smith out as-well. Grealish hasn't come out.

chrisAVFC

1.) 02 Aug 2021 17:18:22
Strange Smith wouldn't be involved Chris?

2.) 02 Aug 2021 17:20:48
Hmm may have jumped the gun a bit here, 40 minutes later he’s out having a laugh and joke with the rest of the staff and players. Unless it was a very quick chat, more likely to be him doing a warm up indoors I’d imagine.

3.) 02 Aug 2021 18:56:07
Think so, looks like he had a good chat with Lange - That would obviously relate to incomings, probably giving him an overview of our targets this summer and beyond. You'd imagine talks with the owners will be next, we need this done soon either way. I can't take anymore.

4.) 02 Aug 2021 20:11:56
The fella said the mood was very different when Grealish came back out, amongst everyone not just Jack. Much more up beat and positive. Make of that what you will!

5.) 02 Aug 2021 23:08:05
We need to find out tomorrow, few people speculating that the structure of the 100M is being negotiated - That's the only hold up! I'm still in the "he's off" camp sadly, going to be an interesting few weeks!

01 Aug 2021 17:33:29
The players and staff have gone for a short stay at the Lansbury Resort in Teddington, Grealish and Mings are there training.

Not sure what this proves but rumours that Grealish was asking to go straight to Man City and not have to report back to Villa first are BS.

chrisAVFC

1.) 01 Aug 2021 22:50:40
He definitely isn't going to force the move Chris, just can't see it! Think tomorrow is going to be massive, I still think he is off but I'm sure the club will give him anything he asks for tomorrow. The reality is City are a cheat code to win trophies sadly, and we can't compete with that currently.

2.) 02 Aug 2021 01:36:36
Cheat all they want they still sun ever being champions of Europe 💪💪.

3.) 02 Aug 2021 09:30:58
I think he's just doing his duties, but there are reports that he isn't sure about what to do. I agree he won't force a move though, its up to our owners to perform today!

22 Jun 2021 23:21:02
Looks like we are preparing a second bid for Emile Smith-Rowe, I really can't see this one happening. We took their main summer target, if we were to take one of their rising stars, whom is already a regular part of their first team it would be their owners openly admitting they are happy for the club to continue their decline.

The fact we have bid and are planning a second bid tells me the players agent had suggested there is interest and therefore reason to do so. This could either be genuine, or the agent looking to show Arsenal there's genuine interest elsewhere so they can get a better deal.

Either way I hope we don't waste too much time on this, we should always strive to get the best deal but there's a fine line between the benefit of getting the best deal and wasting time and missing out on other targets.

Exciting times to be a Villa fan!

chrisAVFC

1.) 23 Jun 2021 05:00:01
It might depend on the money situation at Arsenal. If they want players like Aouar, and Ben White for instance, they might be more tempted to offload Smith- Rowe to help fund those deals. It would be great if we could get him but Alvarez is probably more realistic. A front 4 of Grealish, Buendia, Alvarez and Watkins would be as equally mouth watering.

2.) 23 Jun 2021 06:03:17
Mouth watering agreed, but we would need two very effective midfielders behind them to avoid being overrun. I don’t think we have that pair at the moment.

One of the reasons why Grealish was switched to the left from no. 10 role was due to the flimsy midfield we had as a result. Add to which, he rarely runs on beyond the centre forward without the ball. Buendia is not too dissimilar, although tends to thread the ball through or work on sharp one-twos with the front man.

3.) 23 Jun 2021 08:08:11
I think it would be Smith Rowe, or Alvarez, rather than both. If we signed both all of a sudden we have Grealish, Buendia, ESR and Alvarez all fighting for the positions behind Watkins. Grealish is more or less guaranteed to start, with the other three fighting for the other two spots, I can’t see any of them signing on the basis there a good chance they’ll be spending a portion of the season on the bench.

Add into that Traore, El Ghazi and Chukky, and we’ve got far too many players for those positions😂 I think Trez will be sold once fully fit.

Personally, I’d sooner see us focus on a defensive midfielder to play behind these lads, protect the back four and allow the other to do whatever they want.

4.) 23 Jun 2021 09:50:14
I think sadly that the ESR business is all designed to secure him a better deal at Arsenal, I think other players such as Willock, Guendouzi, Elneny and Maitland Niles are the ones likely to be sacrificed to secure additional funds.

Whilst it is good to be linked with all these progressive attacking players I would like to see us associated with that beast of a defensive midfielder that I think will really take us to the next level. I know there are noises around Berge but they don’t sound that likely if I am honest so I would like our next move to be in that space to be honest.

5.) 23 Jun 2021 11:00:36
Talking of defensive midfielders, Romeu of Southampton is the latest player that we’ve apparently registered an interest in. Any thoughts on this one guys?

6.) 23 Jun 2021 12:26:06
On the face of it, his age goes against the policy at the minute, but with us losing our 3 oldest players, some experience in the actual starting X11 and not the bench (Young) might be what we need.

7.) 23 Jun 2021 15:20:50
I was banging on about Romeu a few months back. one of the best defensive midfielders in the league in my opinion. strong, aggressive and technically sound. might be getting on a bit but if we can get him for a decent price he'd definitely be worth it. Straight into our first 11 and will help us bridge the gap to the teams above us.

15 Jun 2021 21:27:38
Looks like we're interested in Ashley Young on a free. Seems a no brainer to me, lost 3 experienced players this summer so bringing someone in who has been at the highest level, won almost all there is to win at club level, knows what it takes to make the step up and knows the club, can only be a positive. Plus despite his age, proved last season he still has the ability to provide adequate cover for a number of positions.

chrisAVFC

1.) 15 Jun 2021 22:56:25
Hard to believe he’s 35, great player for us in the past. if he’s still got the legs I’d have him.

2.) 16 Jun 2021 07:35:21
Played 34 times in a title winning season last year so you’d imagine he’s still got enough in the tank!

Not the sort of signing that gets everyone excited but could be shrewd bit of business. Barry to Everton, Milner to Liverpool type signing!

3.) 16 Jun 2021 14:29:02
Not for me. Having him back at his age just doesn’t seem to meet our owners requirements.

4.) 16 Jun 2021 17:09:17
It would be great to have Ashley back at the club. Apart from being an asset on the pitch and a very capable replacement for Matt Targett, I think he could have a big influence on our younger players. We are lacking players with his level of experience, and that in itself would be invaluable.

5.) 16 Jun 2021 17:35:29
My thoughts exactly Mark.

6.) 16 Jun 2021 22:56:16
Think he’d be a brilliant addition. Get him involved in some coaching, can cover both fullback positions, and even play further forward. He’s a great athlete, and has a winning mentality. Also, takes a wicked set piece. Bring him home!

7.) 21 Jun 2021 20:28:09
Wasn’t sure on this one and wondered if Ashley was using his surname as camouflage. However, on reflection, maybe a short term arrangement isn’t a bad shout, given his versatility. He might even see a fair bit of game time across various flank roles.

Another wise old head will be useful too.

22 Oct 2021 21:56:56
Probably worst performance since being in back in the Prem in the first half, too much to even get into it was that bad.

Much better second half.

5 at the back needs binning, it served its purpose and now it's time for a change

433 with Bailey starting, Watkins needs dropping, he's been miles off it, control passing everything, he should have made it 3-2 in the 82nd minute with a tap in that most Sunday league strikers score. Hopefully Traore is back fit soon.

3 loses in a row, huge game against West Ham next.

chrisAVFC

1.) 22 Oct 2021 22:03:59
Konsa, Mings and Tuanzebe looked terrible in the 1st half.
2nd half was better but it couldn’t have been much worse.
Watkins is definitely out of sorts. My recent posts have highlighted his poor form and body language. What on earth was he doing in the first couple of minutes? Set the tone for him for the rest of the game I’m afraid.
You’re correct Chris and as I said earlier, next weeks game is massive.
Come on boys.
UTV!

2.) 22 Oct 2021 22:20:18
I think Smith may be under serious pressure if we lose to West Ham lads . We currently have zero identify and the loses are stacking up, if results go badly we could be 4 points off the drop, 1 point next weekend potentially - That's obviously incredibly unlikely and I don't think we will be anywhere near a relegation dogfight but our owners will not be happy if we continue to slide down the table. Smith needs to get a grip on this situation, stop with 5-3-2, stop trying to crowbar Watkins and Ings up front and find a side capable of stringing more than 3 passes together. That was utterly pathetic tonight!

3.) 22 Oct 2021 22:33:34
Watched his interview after the game, not good enough in my book, all I heard was excuses about the first half, it was his fault that he didn’t change anything so hold your hand up dean, be a man, your getting paid enough. he’s not good enough for me guys, my opinion is simple, smith out, I don’t need everyone to agree with me or want to get a bandwagon going I just don’t think he’s good enough.
I think we have being robbed for buendia, we are better when he’s not on the pitch that’s one sure thing, Doug was terrible tonight, should be banned from internationals, every time they go away it’s villa that suffer.

4.) 22 Oct 2021 23:00:27
Bk obvious to everyone except smith.

5.) 22 Oct 2021 23:19:59
Buendia isn't a 10 really though Whack. He's more of a Sancho or Salah (obviously not as good), right side of a front three. He clearly can't play in a midfield three and it's unfair that we continue to play him there. This is the problem with our team at the moment, we are trying to play EVERYBODY and it doesn't work. Watkins up top with Bailey and Buendia just off them, Sanson, McGinn, Luiz in Midfield. That's the way forward in my opinion.

6.) 22 Oct 2021 23:57:49
That may be true BK but your position on the pitch shouldn’t affect your ability to A. pass to your own player, B. actually get past a defender with the ball at your feet, I know players play better in preferred positions but come on now he should be able to do the basics, he’s also the weakest player on the pitch when he’s on the ball, he gets pushed off it constantly, he’s not what’s wrong with us at the moment but he’s a waste of 30+ million if you ask me, only bright side is we definitely won’t be paying any add ons for him he will be lucky to have 10 goal involvements this year. archer deserves a shot also if you ask me, players need to know they are not untouchable, if they were winning every week fair enough but half these guys are not worth the kit they are wearing at the min, think they are gods gift cause they are on the subs bench for a nation that hasn’t won anything in 50 years.

7.) 23 Oct 2021 00:06:40
Fully agree Whack, not defending his performance, he was pi$$ poor tonight and has been on a number of occasions - My only point is we aren't playing to his strengths, if you're part of a midfield three you need to have certain attributes which he doesn't possess and has never really needed to develop - If he's wide right he has much more freedom and time on the ball and isn't constantly surrounded by bodies the second the ball is at his feet, we are asking him to play with one hand tied behind his back. It's much too early to make a call on Buendia, only KDB was more creative than him the last time he was in the Premier League and he absolutely destroyed the Championship last season. Play him wide right and you'll see what he can do, Smith needs to make some big decisions now otherwise he could be out of a job, this team is not working.

8.) 23 Oct 2021 09:55:23
I agree BK, I think we go back to the 4 2 3 1 system with Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett,
Luiz, McGinn,
Buendia, Sanson Bailey
Ings.
I would give Sanson a try in central midfield as despite Ramsey scoring last night he flatters to deceive in my opinion and we don’t really know what Sanson can do as he hasn’t had a long enough run in the team. Up front is difficult, I opted for Ings as he is the more natural finisher although I am not sure playing that lone striker role is his game.

9.) 23 Oct 2021 14:30:45
Lord of the Ings, fully agree, Sanson needs to play. Let's not forget Sanson was a 30M player we picked up at 50% discount, the kid can play!

17 Oct 2021 09:52:15
Stayed away last night because I knew with the mood I like everyone else left VP in I would have said something very stupid and reactionary, as I see some have, well done to those who managed to keep their heads.

Not matter what way you cut it, with 11 men still on the pitch, at 2-0 in the 80th minute, if you lose that game it's down to the players, full stop. Forced into two subs due to injury and a player requesting a sub, so went like for like, makes perfect sense as up till that point the game plan was working perfectly and they had no threat. The Dougie sub may be questioned but the fella had got off a plan about 14 hours before, coming from a different time zone, so I can see why he was subbed.

Second half Mings was awful, that's clear, what won't be mentioned is the fact that Konsa, Tuanzebe and Targett were all equally as bad, some of them even more, but we all know why that won't be mentioned?. The only player who can walk off that pitch with any credibility is Mcginn, and if he keeps that level up and we can't match it around him, he'll be the next one to leave.

Miscued clearances, lack of effort, inability to calm the situation down and keep hold of the ball and naivety cost us that game, that coupled with the sight of Smith and two of the coaching staff on the sideline screaming for the team to step out, hold onto the ball, going crazy when we were aimlessly giving it back to them, tells you exactly what you need to know, but some will still attempt to use this as a stick to beat him with.

chrisAVFC

1.) 17 Oct 2021 12:04:18
Highlights of the match for me were Mings getting booked for time wasting when Villa were winning 1-0.The Holte End singing ‘We will not be moved’ and then moving faster than they ever moved before when the winning goal went in and Villas man of the match lying on the floor behind the wall in an attempt to save the day.

2.) 17 Oct 2021 12:23:21
Fair play to your lads Neves, shame some of your fans left at 2-0 and missed once of your best comebacks ever. Just goes to show money can buy you loads of Portuguese players but not a decent fan base?.

3.) 17 Oct 2021 13:19:44
Remember the days when they used to open the gates for the last ten minutes and everyone outside could get in.
Need to make these stadiums far bigger so that everyone who wants to go to the game can.

4.) 17 Oct 2021 14:55:35
I think that’s the first sensible thing you’ve ever posted on the page?.

07 Oct 2021 18:07:18
Jacob Ramsey starts on his England U21 debut, and rightly so, barring last game he's been immense this season!

In good company too with other premier league starters in the side.

chrisAVFC

05 Oct 2021 20:27:52
After a tough first half where we were being a bit "old manned" our U23's lead Burton 3-2. that's Burtons full men's side. To come back from 2-0 down to lead 3-2, no matter what the final score/ result is, our youth academy is something special right now.

chrisAVFC

1.) 05 Oct 2021 20:41:22
4-2 Archer hattrick, surely new deal ready for the lad!

2.) 05 Oct 2021 20:49:47
Hi Chris I'm not going to lie here mate this kid is very very special reminds me of a young Rooney raw and very exciting to watch. Our academy has got to be up there with the Man U of the 90s.

3.) 05 Oct 2021 22:12:43
It’s frightening to think, just how good Archer can become. He’s already shown he is way above his years, in his movement and goalscoring ability. We have to be careful that you don’t ruin them by rushing, but my god this kid looks good .
Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

22 Sep 2021 22:01:07
Hard not to be gutted after losing a penalty shootout but overwhelmingly pleased with the performance. Carved out 5 chances we should of scored from, 3 for Archer, one for Bidace and one for Buendia.

Can't help but be a bit pissed off with Young though, he was our worst player all game, kept letting the cross come in, poor going forward and on a completely different wavelength to everyone with his set piece delivery. Then he goes and takes a pen like that, stunk of arrogance to me.

Most the team did well tonight, lost control a bit when Sanson went off (can't help but feel sorry for him), but Nakamba put in a really good performance.

Ended the game with Bidace, Archer and Chukky on the pitch, and for the most part all of them causing problems! Everything that Dave was calling for last season, he'd of loved that performance from them lads.

chrisAVFC

1.) 23 Sep 2021 02:50:09
Martinez would of made the difference, don’t understand why he wasn’t playing, he’s a keeper, hardly exhausting to play in goal, starting to worry about buendia maybe it’s me but I don’t see that much potential in him yet, the youngsters all out shined him massively. like the last time we played them we should of scored more goals, archer looks like he’s got a bright future, we need to find our ruthless streak and start putting more chances away.

2.) 23 Sep 2021 07:39:41
You wanted youth mate, you called for it last year, this is one of the issues, sometimes they aren’t cutting edge, got to give them time.

3.) 23 Sep 2021 09:37:14
Can hardly call steer a youth, the young lads all played brilliantly I just think it was a wrong call on the keeper, and a wrong call letting young take a penalty after having a terrible game, his passing was woeful all night I don’t know why dean thought he would step up and take a good penalty after that performance,

4.) 23 Sep 2021 09:47:37
Young stats: lost possession 8 times, lost all 5 of his duels, 4 fouls, yellow card, fewer touches than steer, absolutely brainless idea to let him take a spot kick.

5.) 23 Sep 2021 14:31:40
Yeah I wasn’t calling Steer youth, don’t know where you’ve got that from mate?

You said we need find our ruthless streak and start putting our chances away, the chances never fell to steer did they, they fell to Archer and Bidace the biggest ones. That’s where with youth you are going to miss a few or completely miscue them, just need to be patient, archer proved that, missed two big chances, kept at it and scored the toughest of them all.

6.) 23 Sep 2021 19:34:10
I didn’t say anything negative about the younger players I thought they played brilliantly, scoring 1 goal from 3 or 4 chances against Chelsea is a decent nights work for any striker let alone a guy of his young age, our senior strikers are not firing on all cylinders yet that’s who I mean by ruthless streak, they should of had a few against Chelsea last week in that first half.
The majority of the team were excellent,
Thought buendia was very average, young was our worst player, and steer not far behind him, he didn’t have a huge amount to do he made 1 half decent save, the rest were more catches than saves, he couldn’t save the one that mattered he just flapped like he did with the penalties.

7.) 23 Sep 2021 22:13:32
I think there’s been a massive miss understanding here mate, we’re both saying the same thing?.

When you said we need to find our ruthless streak, and put away our chances, I said that’s what you get with youth, because it was archer who missed two clear cut chances in the first half and Bidace missed one in the second half. Nothing to do with steer or anyone else?

I agree, Young was awful, and his penalty was arrogant in my eyes, expect more from someone captaining us to be honest. Agree Steer was useless in the shootout, Cutler showed him the directions for their takers, surely it didn’t just say “go left for every penalty”? in the game I thought he was decent, did everything needed, got the ball out fast and set us on our way, made two decent saves, distribution went crap in the last 15 though, didn’t miss place a kick for 75 minutes then put 3 straight out of play in 15, but think that was the same with the whole team, panic stations.

8.) 24 Sep 2021 09:45:00
Lol I think so 2??
1 thing for sure we look to have much more depth this year if we can keep everyone fit, between youth and seniors they give me hope for the season ahead, we need another keeper on the books though, I think marvellous can be that DM that we need so bad, I hope he starts on Saturday, I’m going to miss the game as we have a first holy communion in the family and I’ll be stuck in the church ?.

Agree Dave, it’s like the final piece of the puzzle. First year in the championship we were a mess all over the park, yet we had Jedinak, can’t remember the star but it’s either we didn’t win a game without him playing, or we didn’t lose any game in which he started. Either way it highlights just how influential that role is and how even when the rest of the sides a mess, that position can be the difference!

The problem with most of the speculation here is that we have to find buyers for our players and in the market at the minute there’s very few clubs prepared to spend what clubs want or what players are worth, everyone wants a deal. Usually one of the relegated clubs will pay up for four or five players but that doesn’t seem to have happened.

On here we all know despite his record last season, El Ghazi is so hit and miss that if you want to achieve something he isn’t your man, the problem is if we know that 99% of clubs happy to pay for him will work it out before a deals done, (unless of course Tony Xia is back in club ownership😂) .

Would love the pre injury Zakaria, he was on course to be one of the best in the world in the world IMO. Hasn’t been the same player since, hope he gets back to his best, nothing to do with Villa, just hate to see when injuries ruin players. Amavi is another, would of been one of the best in the world for me, before his injury he had everything, when he came back he was so timid and defensively not half the player he was before.

Two games SV? We were two nil up with ten to play against Wolves and our midfield had helped reduce them to 2 shots on target at that point, one being a defender giving it directly to them and another a long range shot. The midfield wasn’t over run at all to that point, then the whole team were over run and bottled it, not just the midfield. Against Arsenal in the first half I agree midfield was a problem, forwards not holding onto it made it worse, second half wasn’t as bad but still not great.

So no I wouldn’t change the midfield three to be honest, because for one in my opinion they weren’t over run for two games straight and two the back up options aren’t pulling up trees when they do get a chance.

433 surely, he hasn’t had the players due to injury but there all back now so no excuse not to go back to his preferred formation.

Martinez (if he’s back from Argentina, wish his dad a speedy recovery btw?)
Cash Konsa Mings Targett
Ramsey Dougie Mcginn
Buendia Ings Bailey

Obviously Buendia and Bailey can swap either side, shouldn’t matter too much.
Targett back in a back four should find his form from last season.
Ings over Watkins for me, Watkins has been miles off it, I know he missed the start of the season but some of the selfish play, miss placed passes/ touches and just all round movement have been really poor.
Flat midfield 3, when one goes and joins the attack, the other two sit. If we get to the 60th minute and can be more adventurous then you let two go and one sit.

West Ham’s second team beat City the other night, so that gives you an idea of how well they are doing. But I still think us on our best day beat them, we just haven’t seen us at our best for a full 90 minutes yet this season.

For me, if it does come to a large scale rebuild at Liverpool, look at the team when Klopp first took over and look at it now. No better man for the job in the modern game.

Thank f&;k, someone from an outside neutral perspective has said it, thought I was going mental for a second.

I’ve just read if we don’t beat West Ham it’s time for Smith to be sacked, either this is a product of what a bit of progression does, people start having delusions of grandeur and think we should be jumping up year on year, or some people are just so far out of touch with the modern game, they live in a dream world. Either way these attitudes are detrimental to the club and and any progression we might achieve in the long term.

{Ed001's Note - it is the modern way, everything has to be now and nobody wants to work and earn anything. They forget that people worked hard to get the world into a position where stuff could come easy and just want the easy bit without the effort.}
