Sander Berge being linked, would be perfect and hopefully at a good price if they go down.

chrisAVFC

1.) 23 Feb 2021 14:59:08
Would be a good signing if true Chris, he is a big lad as well.

{Ed077's Note - Isn't he out with a long term injury currently?

2.) 23 Feb 2021 15:08:10
Ed077 yes he is but Utd are expecting him back before the end of the season Wilder has said he knows Berge is using Utd as a stepping stone to bigger and better things however I think from the interview he gave they are expecting interest from clubs involved in Europe rather than teams like us,

{Ed077's Note - that's sensible point of view from Sheffield United and Wilder.

3.) 23 Feb 2021 15:10:38
Yes Ed, don`t think he will feature again this season, hamstring problem I think.

{Ed077's Note - Might not be fully fit and firing even if he gets back before this season's end}

4.) 23 Feb 2021 15:23:52
I agree it’s a sensible point of view, but also a dangerous one. I remember us signing Gueye and him mentioning something about bigger things in his first interview, we got relegated and he was sold.

I admit I didn’t know Berge was injured, he’s a brilliant player though and could be that anchor man we’ve been missing for so long.

{Ed077's Note - It largely comes down to the players mentality. Its better for players to want to do so well that the better team come after them than it is to have players who are just happy to be there and not strive to improve IMO.

Although it might pain but Gueye did do well enough to earn a move to Everton and then to PSG.}

5.) 23 Feb 2021 16:06:00
Don’t get me wrong Ed Gueye was phenomenal, in an awful team for us. But looking back after the comments he made and then the stats he picked up, was he playing within himself, playing safe in order to get that move should the worse happen.

{Ed077's Note - That is one way of looking at it but he wasnt useless like you pointed out. If I remember correctly he was one of your better performers during that season which wasnt the biggest achievement but still not too bad.

6.) 23 Feb 2021 16:43:53
It was obvious to most Villa fans that both Gueye and Veretout were excellent players, and they’ve gone on to have successful careers at PSG and Roma. Unfortunately they were largely surrounded by mediocrity when they were with us, and we were unable to match their ambitions. Neither would be out of place in the current squad though, and I would be more than happy if we could bring a few more of their calibre and ambition in this Summer.

{Ed077's Note - Well said mark.

7.) 23 Feb 2021 17:04:38
Are you our new Ed? if so welcome on board mate.

{Ed077's Note - I am the editor of the masses mark. But I am not a Villa supporter if you meant in that way:-P

8.) 23 Feb 2021 17:16:28
Ok, my apologies, it’s just that Ed001 made reference to a new Ed this morning. Perhaps we can work on you becoming a Villa supporter 😁.

{Ed077's Note - Unlikely nay Impossible mate. But appreciate the thought. And no need to apologise mark

9.) 23 Feb 2021 19:46:47
Veretout was my favourite of the bunch to be honest, just never ever played in the right position. When you look back we had 5 or 6 players good enough to keep us in the league. Gueye, Veretout, Amavi, Traore, Ayew, Grealish (albeit young), problem was 5 of those had been signed that summer, the turn around was way too much and it didn’t really matter who we brought in, too much change and no cohesion meant we were doomed from the start.

{Ed077's Note - off the top of my head didn't you have Richards and past it Lescott as the CB pairing though? Might explain how you went down no!}

10.) 23 Feb 2021 20:16:11
Certainly didn’t help Ed, nor did the atmosphere in the dressing room or the decisions in the boardroom ie how we got shut of a manager who a few months earlier had taken us a very average team at best to an FA cup final and replaced him with the wrong man at the wrong time, come to think of it I am not sure Remi Garde would ever have been the right man at any time. In fact does anyone know where Remi is now?

{Ed077's Note - Remi has been out of job since getting sacked by Montreal Impact in 2019}

11.) 23 Feb 2021 20:15:25
2 questions about this rumour
1 can he do the skirting boards in the players lounge? (sorry wrong kind of sander😳)
2 is he any relation to the bloke who sang "Lady in red"?
Seriously though, decent player and physical presence 👍.

12.) 23 Feb 2021 20:36:56
Gone from strength to strength then I see.

13.) 23 Feb 2021 20:36:56
Yes Ed, we had Lescott who quite literally didn’t care and Micah Richards who refused to accept he’s a right back! Wasn’t the best base to build from!

Garde has to go down as one of the worst premier league managers of the last decade🙈.

20 Feb 2021 12:48:38
Rumours picking up pace that Grealish has got his shin injury again and looking like 4 weeks out.

I'm a bit Dubois because the main sources for this are him not being in the training pictures, and a fantasy premier league Twitter account discussing it.

A friend has forwarded a message of Grealish' "cousin" which says it's his shin again, but the text is flakey at best and my friend is a bluenose, so I'm very sceptical to be honest.

Fingers crossed it's them down the road trying to lighten up their season.

1.) 20 Feb 2021 14:27:11
I hope not chris, I have been trying to find out myself, there are a few snippets scattered about, but nothing definite.
There is an interview on AVFC with Michelle Owen, it is noted as being a day ago, but no indication from him that he is carrying any sort of injury.
So fingers crossed mate, he would be a big miss, compounded by Matty.

2.) 20 Feb 2021 15:24:11
Sam Dave, I’ve had a look and can’t find anything, other than he isn’t in the training pictures released.

16 Jan 2021 14:18:00
Another one out and about, Callum Rowe out on loan to Hereford.

chrisAVFC

1.) 16 Jan 2021 15:38:10
They may be going to non league teams, but its vital experience of playing regular "Mens" football and will only help their development. And it never did the likes of Vardy, Smalling and our very own Ian Taylor any harm, so let's keep our fingers crossed. As one of Eddie Murphy's characters in Coming to America once sang " I believe the children are our future " 😁👍.

2.) 17 Jan 2021 11:22:16
Bang on Moose, he’ll learn more in the next few months about being a pro than he has last few years!

15 Jan 2021 16:41:22
Looks like I wasn't far wrong when I said the phone would be ringing, after the youngsters performances in the cup.

Revan off to Weymouth on loan. I thought he'd be out a bit higher up the tree, however playing week in week out is most important!

chrisAVFC

1.) 15 Jan 2021 18:04:25
3rd from bottom in the National league and conceding an average of 2 goals a game. Dominic has got his work cut out by the looks of it, but I’m sure he’s up to the task, if his performance against Liverpool is anything to go by.
Good luck Dominic.

09 Jan 2021 23:07:18
David Brooks is on Dean Smith's hit-list this month. Villa also have their eyes on Reading's Michael Olise.

Smith is keen to add younger players to his squad list in the hope of developing their potential still further and has been given the firepower to move in a depressed market.

- all from Neil Moxley, profile certainly fits with recent activity. Interesting both players can play centrally and out wide in attacking areas. Not sure how reliable Moxley has been in recent windows.

chrisAVFC

1.) 10 Jan 2021 08:45:09
Seen the article Chris and I'd definitely take Brooks, he's a player I've mentioned on here before. Coming back from a serious ankle injury similar to McGinn so probably getting back up to speed. Looks a really useful player and fits the profile just what fee he would command. Don't know anything about the other guy only what I've read in the article.

2.) 10 Jan 2021 09:16:09
Seems every man and their dog want Olise Moose, I’m the same as you, never seen him play, but the interest in him is a positive sign.

I’d take Brooks all day long.

3.) 10 Jan 2021 09:24:09
I have also mentioned Brooks on here before he would be a great addition adding quality and flexibility to the squad in that he can play in a number of positions either centrally or out wide. In terms of fee I can’t see it being less than £25 million and probably a bit more as I am sure a number of other premier league clubs will be interested if Bournemouth decide to sell which no doubt will drive the price up.

4.) 10 Jan 2021 09:39:50
Wasn’t 40 million mooted in the Summer?
Might have to break the transfer record again🤦‍♂️.

5.) 10 Jan 2021 09:48:22
So I’ve done some research, apparently Bournemouth wanted 50 million + in the summer for Brooks, which put off a lot of suiters. With their league position I can imagine this would still be the price, unless they have been hit hard with the current struggles in the world, and need cash.

This bring the question, would you rather get ripped off for Brooks, or pay the reported £25million for Buendia? I like the fact Brooks is British and no doubt a good player, but is he really better than Buendia? Does his game suit us more that Buendias? Tough choice I think.

As for Olise, he’s played 23 games this season, 16 times as a starter, very good record for an 18 year old. The highlights videos look brilliant - as usual, Tonev looked like a Bulgarian Messi on YouTube.

I hope we do do some business this window, often we have nothing attacking wise to come from the bench, to change a game. I know with Wesley, Barkley and Trez back fully fit that will change, however we can’t guarantee everyone to be fully fit all the time, so let’s have more options around.

6.) 10 Jan 2021 09:53:44
If King leaves, which is looking likely, we may be able to sweeten any deal with the possibility of sending Davis, possibly on loan, the other way? 🤔.

7.) 10 Jan 2021 10:08:59
King has hardly featured for Bournemouth so far this season, if at all. It would appear he wants out, and his contract is up in June.
A bargain to be had there, I think.
I read somewhere Bournemouth were interested in taking Davis on loan Moose, so maybe something could be agreed.
Chris, if the asking price difference between Brooks and Buendia is really 25 million, then surely it’s a no brainer.
There’s only a year difference in their ages, and what exactly can Brooks give us that Buendia can’t?

8.) 10 Jan 2021 10:27:57
Having said that I’ve just seen that King played yesterday and scored twice. Also apparently Everton are trying to do a deal for King involving a swap, according to Sky Sports.

9.) 10 Jan 2021 10:28:56
It does all come down to price but either would be a great addition, Beundia probably offers more versatility in the midfield areas but Brooks is definitely up there in terms of skill. Win win situation whoever we sign and obviously because of age room for further improvement.

10.) 10 Jan 2021 10:35:32
No club will pay £50 million for Brooks as good as he appears to be, that’s totally un realistic and I agree with Mark that you would go with Buendia for £25 million however where I think Norwich will come back up I am not convinced Bournemouth will, so I think it may pay to play the waiting game as I can’t see Brooks being prepared to stay in the championship long term and if that’s the case and the player agitates for a move I am sure the fee will come down.

The other thing to consider is if we do sign Brooks or Olise and given the fact that Ramsey is developing and Smith seems happy to have him on the bench whether we ought to be facilitating a move for Hourihane as at his age he needs to be playing first team football, he has been a good servant to the club but he is dropping down the pecking order bit by bit.

11.) 10 Jan 2021 10:56:11
Unfortunately John there's little room for sentiment in football anymore and we'll see players who've been staple squad members for the past few seasons moved on with the minimum amount of fuss but a big thank you as we sign others to take us to the next level. We've also got Elmo and Taylor with their contracts up this year but I don't think we'll be going all out to replace them as some of our promising youth defenders may be drafted in as part of their gradual integration into the squad.

12.) 10 Jan 2021 15:05:03
You are probably right Moose but that being the case we probably have no right to moan when the players decide to take whatever actions they see fit to further there careers even when it’s at the expense of the club.

13.) 10 Jan 2021 15:50:19
£50m? Surely that must be a mistype! The world has gone mad. Have seen a little of Brooks and he is decent but not at that price.
Would expect us to be looking at value if we’re looking at all.
Olise looks a good shout, one for the future but wouldn’t be in our match day squad. Again it will come down to price/ value. January is notorious for premium values.

14.) 10 Jan 2021 16:14:19
Its always happened John always will. The time of someone staying at a club for their career is over, unless you're Gabby just taking the cash at the end. If they do move on the world will still keep turning and Villa will be here long after they've been forgotten.
It's up to us as a club to become that successful they won't want to go anywhere else and therein lies the challenge. I'm confident tho that with our owners we're finally on the right road.

Our game first half, there's the second, I think mainly because Sanson got injured and when he went off we lost that control in the middle👎

With that said, if Watkins has the two chances Konsa does, we walk that 2-0😂 but he's a defender so we can let him off.

MOTM my head says Martinez just for the one save he had to make, being a phenomenal one. But my Heart says Elmo, just for showing whoever said on here "how is he a professional footballer" to be an absolute plonker by giving no change to the fastest player in the league and one of the young stars of the season😂😂😂.

chrisAVFC

1.) 06 Mar 2021 19:46:48
I've always rated Elmo, he'll never be a 9/ 10 but he'll always do whatever he can and earns a 6 or 7 every game.
His crosses were back to normal with no attackers getting across their men. Traore and Trez kept running straight into Watkins, does nobody any favours.

2.) 06 Mar 2021 19:54:52
Agree Chris he’s played 3 games and played well against Leeds and wolves, had 1 moment where he switched off v Sheffield but what player never makes a mistake, absolute nonsense slating him he’s our second choice, what team of our status has 2 top class right backs.
I thought traore was poor today he done very little in the attacking third he looked well out of sync with our other attackers.

3.) 06 Mar 2021 20:17:58
Agree all the way there Chris, Elmo even had time to get forward . Sanson was certainly having a good game, pity he got injured. Barkley once again added nothing, no way can we spend 30-40 grand on him . No energy and no effort off him, Ramsey certainly put more of a shift in .
Surely there isn’t a harder working CF than Watkins,10 goals and 8 times now he’s hit the woodwork . A bit more luck and Ollie could be out on his own .
A word for Trez, not a lot of finesse, but god how he grafts . Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

4.) 06 Mar 2021 20:20:09
I won’t hide it, I was worried for him today, up against Traore and Neto but he pocketed them, with the help of Traore, whom did his defensive duties brilliantly.

06 Mar 2021 18:25:24
Loads to talk about that half, but I don't want to jinx anything😂

I will say, Sanson having a good game, as well as the other two in the middle, we look solid in there now, just maybe not got as much going forward. But when your on a bad run of form you want solid! His booking was annoying, mainly because I'd do the same thing, first start, lost the ball a little sloppy and tried to make up for it. Problem is, with Mings infront of him, and Sanson next to him, Neto wasn't going anywhere, so no need to make any tackle.

Traore defensively has been brilliant, but going forward he seems on a different wavelength to everyone. Elmo has tried a few times but couldn't link up with him in their final third, and then other players have tried to find him but a couple of times he's been 5 or 6 yards from when other players expect him to be.

Watkins must be the most unlucky player in the league, but my god is he crucial to the way we play! Occupying 3 centre backs on his own.

Really good first half, just has shades of West Ham away where we were brilliant but got nothing in the end. Fingers crossed.

chrisAVFC

1.) 06 Mar 2021 18:29:42
Watkins is struggling. He's been stretching his groin for 10 minutes.
I hope I'm wrong but can't see him coming back out 2nd half.

2.) 06 Mar 2021 19:28:24
Glad you was wrong mate, looks like Tyrone might be now👎.

06 Mar 2021 16:47:47
Another injury, seems our bad lucks all coming at once this season.

Sanson gets his start, hopefully he can produce and feel his way into a game. I have been critical in his cameos but maybe playing from the start he has more time to show what he's got and hasn't got to try and work out the pace of game, instead being on from the start he can dictate it!

Elmo up against Neto and/ or Traore, fingers crossed but it could be time to hide behind the sofa gents😂.

chrisAVFC

1.) 06 Mar 2021 16:58:38
What’s happened el gazhi Chris?

2.) 06 Mar 2021 16:59:45
Agreed mate hopefully he plays something like the couple of minutes clips of him on YouTube. Come on the villa!

3.) 06 Mar 2021 18:20:31
Think the commentator said his toe or something mate, might be wrong though!

4.) 06 Mar 2021 18:30:59
Deano said its an infected toe and he can't even put his boots on, glad they didn't have pictures.

06 Mar 2021 10:30:50
Wouldn't it just be completely predictable for Sanson to score a winner today, considering the amount he has been linked with Wolves over the last few years? 😂

So far this season we've put our best performances in against the better teams, hopefully today is no different. I'd probably swap Dougie with Ramsey, put McGinn right up behind Watkins, Dougie as an 8 and Nakamba sitting in the 6, this should on paper cover for what Nakamba lacks in creativity by putting that burden on Dougie, whilst still getting his best off the ball, just pissing the opponents off😂. Still don't think Jack will be back for today or any time soon as I said from the start, hope I'm wrong. But with that said in all honesty I really think we miss Cash more, just for the complete drop in quality and reliability between him and Elmo. In Jacks place El Ghazi has linked up pretty well with Watkins, in both the Leeds and Sheffield games they seem to know where each other are and find each other with little flicks and lay offs. This is complete contrast to the rest of the team with Elmo, who seems to be on a complete different wavelength to everyone😂 shame really because last season, especially when we turned it around at the end, Elmo kept Freddie out the team, seems like that may have been his last hurrah, didn't look like he even had his trademark crossing anymore the other night👎

Ah well, come on the Villa boys, straight into the dingles today! SATURDAY NIGHT AND I LIKE THE WAY YOU MOVE, BERTRAND TRAORE!

chrisAVFC

04 Mar 2021 08:07:38
So we dominated the ball, Watkins and El Ghazi link up well, McGinn misses a brilliant chance, we then struggled to create obvious chances, conceded against the run of play largely due to Elmo's lapse in concentration, but Targett shouldn't have let him get that far across the box. We then continue to dominate the ball, Traore drags a wonderful chance wide and we go into half time on top but losing.

Second half the ref continues in his awful performance and some how sends Jagielka off, This largely suits Sheffield United whom close ranks, defend well and see out the win.

Subs should have been made a lot sooner, Nakamba can't pass a ball further than 8 yards, there was no need for him to be on when they went down to 10. Davis should have came on sooner, if we were going to continually cross it, we needed more than just El Ghazi and Watkins willing to challenge for it.

Barkley came on and didn't have too much of an effect, he fired a few balls across the box but with that many men in there would have been better off firing toward goal and hoping for a touch. Sanson, did largely what Sanson has done, very little, the pass that went straight out of play summed it up to me. He is clearly miles of it and nowhere near the player some were expecting, he needs more time in training and around the team to get up to speed with his team mates, similar to Dougie last season.

Someone mentioned on here that the players were scared to take anyone on and El Ghazi had gone to a 1/ 10, just to put some facts (although I know some prefer their made up facts) el Ghazi completed 3/ 4 take ones, Watkins 2/ 4 and Traore 3/ 5, so please, if your going to whine, at least back it up with something factual.

Bad night, bad performance. Shame that whenever there are times like this we really play into the Whiney, fickle tag. Move onto the weekend, tough game, hopefully we have Cash back, I think at the minute he's a bigger miss than Grealish.

chrisAVFC

1.) 04 Mar 2021 08:52:35
Spot on analysis Chris I'd say.

2.) 04 Mar 2021 10:00:18
I agree with everything in the first 4 paragraphs Chris. re dribbles- so that’s 8 dribbles completed with 72% possession, the 3 players you names all had a match rating of 7 so yes that’s decent, everyone else had 5 and 6, we dominated the game after they scored, and dominated most stats before they scored except passes in the final third they had 3 times what we had, so we were basically happy knocking it around our own half, constantly going backwards, that’s not progression imo,
Dean picked the wrong team last night and then took way to long to change it, should if switched things at half time like any higher lvl coach would after looking at that tripe for 45 mins, but dean just sits on his laurels and hopes that something will happen when it was never going to, Sheffield had their goal and happy to defend it,

Just out of interest when is the last time you were happy with the performance u seen? And take away the Leeds game as we were quiet lucky to get the early goal, we defended well after that and broke up play but they dominated the ball, we didn’t play amazing we just stopped them playing,

We all know we have made great progress this year but we are going backwards now and not just with results but with performance aswel, how many games going backwards will it take for u to admit that yes we have started slipping backwards,
So I ask you when did we last play well in your opinion?

3.) 04 Mar 2021 10:40:54
Sorry mate I’ve missed your point at the start of that, I was just highlighting that anyone saying players looked scared to take people on, were miles from the truth, as the stats showed.

And happy with a performance, you’ve said leave out the Leeds game but how can you, I was happy with that performance, we were solid against a decent attacking side. There was no luck in the goal, we created it, we scored it, where’s the luck.

Similar to the Arsenal game, we have showed we can get those one nil wins which take teams from fighting relegation to mid table. Against tough teams to add!

We lost against Burnley, but played good football, couldn’t make chances count and were let down largely by one or two individuals. So happy with the performance yes, the result no.

Add context we had 59 shots and 29 shots on target in games against Burnley home and away, Man United, West Ham (A) combined, and got one point. So performances have been attacking, that amount of shots and shots on target in four games shows that. But you don’t always get the result, doesn’t mean the performance wasn’t good or entertaining.

4.) 04 Mar 2021 16:14:31
Every team this season has had ups and downs, let's not forget we're still in the building process with players bought for specific roles, of course we haven't got variation at the moment because the players we bought in the summer were upgrades for Trez, El Ghazi, Wes and Conner with Emi bought because of Heatons injury. We're developing a style of play, let the players get it embedded into them then add a couple of marquee signings that'll push us on. I'd imagine everyone at the club is happy with the progress made. If Deano picks his strongest 11 available every week and only has players of less ability to bring on, wouldn't you wait as long as possible to make a change?

5.) 04 Mar 2021 17:24:27
Yes Btw, your point is spot on, but not everyone is the same.
Some posters, and I include myself, are giving an opinion on what they see, and what they see are problems that need improving on.
But for some reason, it is being misconstrued, and are being accused of wanting the manager out.

I agree you can Mark, but very rarely does it put you in the top 2 if the rest of the team are sprinting. He gets about the pitch as much as we need him to, nine times out of ten he is where you want him for an attacking midfielder, both when we have the ball and when we don’t. His issue is he isn’t doing anything when he is there, he isn’t effecting the game in spite of his effort not because of a lack of it. Nothing is coming off for him, up until recently he was still trying to be creative but in his last few performances before he was dropped he just played completely within himself, no creative spark or any attempt to be creative.

As whatattack has put, he isn’t keeping anyone better out of the team. So on the bench hoping he can find form coming on for the last 15 here and there is the best place if we don’t want the sandals to come out and the season to grind to a complete halt.

Good point Dave, I think removing him from the first 11 is the right thing to do. Removal from the whole match day squad seems OTT.

I had to stop using that news now mate, some of the stuff that’s on there is decent but the majority is garbage.

To be honest whatattack I haven’t seen any pundits talking about him being a bargain or anything along them lines.

Alex Scott ripped him a new one the other week, she had obviously done her research and spoke about how frustrated the fans are getting with him and how despite Smith giving him ample opportunity he just isn’t taking it.

It would take something seriously special from the rest of the season for us to be interested.
