I thought after about 30 minutes that Saturday was going to be a shambles but the second half showed exactly what we can do when they attempt to play. Bolasie was absolutely shocking, I can remember one ball into the channel for Tammy to chase where I thought "yea that was decent", other than that everything he did just didn't come off, and the basics like a first touch just wasn't there. Mcginn was probably the saving grace again, wished he got his head up more though, twice he carried it 30/ 40 yards steaming forward but didn't look up early enough to play a pass to the lads in front of him and it just fumbles out into nothing.

Green looked up for it off the bench, but I did always think he was better coming on than starting. The defence was a shambles again, I don't even think it's the centre halves anymore, without Tuanzebe it's left to Chester the bring the ball out, something smith has said is part of his philosophy, but Chester can't really do it, he ends up playing people into trouble, on the defensive side though him and Elphic look fine to me, it's the full backs where the problems lie, they always allow players inside instead of showing them down the line, they just look out of place.

The biggest problem to me is still that number 6 position, smith seems to like set player roles in the midfield but neither Hourihane or Bjarnson seem able to play that defensive midfielder role, Bjarnson had a pass accuracy of 55% Saturday, that's appalling for a centre mid, we are never going to win with that. I think Jedinak could do it, we didn't win a game the first season down here without Jedinak playing and that was when he was used in his rightful sitting midfielder role, he's big enough and physical enough to give us a presence, he'll protect the back 4 and we'd be conceding less, and I think he's good enough to get the ball moving! I know he's been injured for a while but when he's fit if we can't find someone in the market, he should be given a chance.

We came back from 2-0 down against the in form team in the league, let's build from this, smash Ipswich and go into the final half of the season the same way we did smiths first few games!

King Villa keeps up his impressive record of never getting anything right, puma is not the shirt maker, that's 0 out of about 300 now isn't it? 😂 joking aside, the announcement they made today is a bit concerning to be honest, something fishy, I've never heard of "fanatics" and not quite sure what their involvement is, and Luke until now has never made sports wear, this is shown by the shoddy "Luke sports" logo that looks like it's been knocked up by a 4 year old on word art, just for the press release. This really is strange and stinks of the people in charge trying to force something that isn't worth it just for the sake of being "innovative".

Very strange decision, anyone ever heard of "fanatics"? They seem like a kit manufacturer for the likes of Nike, however no one else seem to advertise that fanatics are part of their "technical kit partnership". Hopefully it's all fine and works out well, good to be promoting a Birmingham business, however probably a bad business move for Luke, can't imagine many blue noses buying anything from their anymore😂. At least the design won't be a typical Nike template the same as about 9 other kits.

1.) 23 Apr 2018 21:42:23
Agree with the above comments but we have to hope that they know what they are doing.
The logo really is 'retro' ans as Chris says 'chlidlike'.
After watching the short video on the official site I am also wondering about our emblem. No sign of 'prepared' re-appearing despite being told months ago that it was a mistake to remove and that it would be gradually re-introduced.

2.) 24 Apr 2018 18:05:56
I'm never wrong mate. My sources are lol.

30 Mar 2018 10:44:11
Kodjia to be involved tomorrow then, very very good news.

1.) 30 Mar 2018 11:39:55
That's great news about kodjia,
Think top 2 is out of reach if I'm honest
So having him back for play offs is a big boost,

2.) 30 Mar 2018 11:49:37
Now with the big man back shame we are not 3 points or so behind Cardiff,
Them last 2 games for us have really hit us very hard,

3.) 31 Mar 2018 14:01:47
Hate to state the obvious, but were going to need to beat Hull by 4 clear goals to go back third. Not beyond the realms of possibility, but a bit of a stretch methinks.

Villa launch double loan swoop for Leicester's Ulloa and Amartey.
Everyone knows about Ulloa and anyone who watches us play I think can see he'd be brilliant in our team. Didn't know much about Amartey but judging from Leicester fans opinion he sounds like Jedinak with legs, although they say he's not excellent on the ball. Would be ideal to be fair, get Whelan as far away from the team as possible, rotate Jedinak and Amartey to keep everything fresh. Hope this comes off.

1.) 10 Jan 2018 19:39:03
I live as you know in Leicester, and most my friends/ family are crisp fans.
They say the Ulloa deal has been sorted for a long time, since the summer, a loan that becomes permanent if we go up.
They also say that amarty is siht, and would pay us to take him. I’ve never seen the lad. however. they also say this is happening!

2.) 10 Jan 2018 20:01:10
Fingers crossed then, from what’s on twitter amartey has been played out of position a lot so has had a few stinkers. Hope the Ulloa deal comes off ASAP.

{Ed001's Note - Leicester usually play Amartey at right back but he is really a central midfielder.}

3.) 10 Jan 2018 20:10:47
Like I said, I don’t know much of him. Just repeating what’s been said.
Rb is the last position we need a player for anyway!

We could do with another inforcer in the middle.

Anyways. thanks Ed001, Wasn’t expecting you to answer one of my posts till about March April time. that’s when you normally resurface! 😏🤫.

{Ed001's Note - I only go for about 3 days though Flacks, it just feels like longer for you as you miss me so much.}

4.) 10 Jan 2018 20:33:30
Jesus, that’s true. normally feels like 40 days, and 40 nights.

{Ed001's Note - funnily enough I was out wandering in the desert earlier.}

5.) 10 Jan 2018 20:46:18
Just laughed out loud! Lol

Did you happen to have a conversation with a fairly hot bush?!

{Ed001's Note - she wasn't bad at all, but how did you know her name was Bush?}

6.) 10 Jan 2018 21:13:27
I read her diary, was on a couple of stone tablets!

{Ed001's Note - stone tablets? I wouldn't want to swallow a couple of those next time I have a headache!}

7.) 10 Jan 2018 21:16:23
This thread is giving me a headache!

{Ed001's Note - you sound like my missus now.}

8.) 10 Jan 2018 21:38:57

{Ed001's Note - not really, it is more of a Brazilian she has.}

9.) 10 Jan 2018 21:58:49
That’s twice you’ve made me laugh out loud! Lol.

10.) 11 Jan 2018 12:45:37
Dont know bout you laughing out loud flacks the banter between you and edoo1 nearly had me pissing my pants mate. Lol.

{Ed001's Note - glad to hear it mate.}

09 Jan 2018 17:15:14
The s*n reporting Brighton want to push through a 3mil move for Davis. Has to be rubbish, however if we got a big of 8mil+ I'd take it if it meant we could go and buy someone to replace him.

1.) 10 Jan 2018 09:21:16
How about a deal?
Murray + £5m for Davis?
Murray scores on a regular basis, Davis holds the ball up.
Currently we need goals.
Davis is still raw but we need a finisher.

2.) 10 Jan 2018 14:13:25
Do you trust Bruce to bring in a good striker to replace Davis if he was sold?
Davis going nowhere in my opinion.

Isn't it strange how all the players who under Bruce we thought were our weak links, Taylor, Whelan ect, are now some of our better players, weird how with a bit of coaching their back to their best.

1.) 14 Apr 2019 12:21:43
Chris I agree, whelan especially seem rejuvenated, playing like he’s mid 20s . As you say it’s amazing what a good coach can get out of players .
On another point, did you see Axel, at the end of the game, all the loan players also seem to have been sold the Villa dream by Deano . The dressing room must be a completely different place now . People have asked on here, what JT brings to the party . You can bet, that he plays a big part in the dressing room, making sure it’s not the toxic pit it once was
Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

2.) 14 Apr 2019 15:00:57
Great call about the new coaching bringing the best out of good but wayward players. Not to dwell too much in the past, however change was definitely needed and many on here have been vindicated. Without the fans having there voices heard change may have been delayed. I read today that some posters have been staying away because of some of the antic's on here, this is an open forum with everyone entitled to their opinion, yes extreme at times however still valid.

3.) 14 Apr 2019 18:55:48
The problem was that it wasn't opinions any more. Some of us were trying to give constructive opinions on where we thought things were going wrong and were basically confronted with "shut up, you're an idiot, I don't like Steve Bruce" (paraphrasing obviously) .
At the end of the day we are now playing well and there's not a huge amount to comment on. Lack of TV coverage means those of us unable to make games can't have much input either as the EFL highlights we get are dire.
Fingers crossed that whenever we eventually hit the next rough patch (by the time we're back in the Prem) that the fans and players especially keep working with the right attitude.

27 Mar 2019 11:34:22
Is James Justin the lad to solve our left back problems, haven't had a decent one in years, Taylor is hit and miss, Amavi was unfortunate we had him but not the right coaching, he's thrive now. Don't know much about Justin but he's team of the year, Luton are flying, seems young hungry, would cost huge amount, transfer fee or wages. Anyone know anything about him?

14 Feb 2019 09:22:52
By far and away the biggest problem at Villa, the fans. Self entitled, deluded, arrogant fans. I used to think it was a small minority but it's not. "The jobs to big for him", what 4 months in and the jobs to big for him, no preseason, one January transfer window and the jobs to big for him, what a mid table championship team is "too big for him", Jesus Christ. Atmosphere Saturday will be toxic no doubt, first miss placed pass or if we keep the ball along the back four for longer than 30 seconds and the boos will ring out, from there on out all the players will be scared to do anything and it's back to playing inside them selves. Is it a coincidence we started having a go on 80 minutes against Sheffield United? No, it's because 70% of the crowd had gone home and the players thought sod it, we aren't going to get any worse reception let's have a go. The two issues we have to overcome to get promoted from the position we are today, not in 1982, where we find ourselves as a mid table championship club in 2019, is overpaid players who see this as the pinnacle of their financial gain from their career, who are happy to stand still and accept a pay cheque with minimal effort, this is something Smith and the club will address in the summer. The second issue I think will hold us in this division for the foreseeable future, and that's the fans, dining out on past glories, "he's gorra go, he's gorra go" every single manager, look around, everyone else can see what we are, why can't you? The squad isn't that great, too many people think this is a video game and because they cost big money and get paid big money that their great, a clue. their not. And their not Dean Smiths players, fortunately I do think the new board and ownership aren't as thick as the last and won't bow down to the moronic majority that need to have their egos massaged at every turn. It's either have a look in the mirror, realise the situation we are in and accept it, or get comfortable because we'll be here for a very long time.

1.) 14 Feb 2019 10:21:53
Good post Chris.

2.) 14 Feb 2019 12:10:52
Yeah right the fans fault, he's had 20 games to improve and we haven't its simple i'd give 5 more and if we don't get anything out of them p45, every1 keeps on going on about patience how long do they want too give him 3yrs don't think so its a results buisness u don't get 2 / 3at a club now a yr tops them days are gone if was your buisness would you say oh its ok were not makeing any progress but he might if we give him time,20 games is easily enough in my view too stamp your vision on the team, the thing is if we keep on not performing he will get boot anyway the chairmen are wealthey men, i dean but the job is way too big for him managing brentford is different to managing villa, yes we are in the championship but by stature, history, fanbase, facilities were a prem club no matter what league we are in . we just need the right manager and right players we need hungary young players that want too play for our club.

3.) 14 Feb 2019 12:39:37
4eva, you are again showing such negativity towards Dean Smith, it looks like you have made a point and you are not going to let it go.
Results have not been great we all know that, but everything is not lost just yet.
I have to point out to you that back on 6th January you stated and I quote: If we don’t go up or make the play offs “It is Not Deano`s fault”
You also said “it is next season that matters, this is Bruces team, and until its Deano`s team we cannot judge.
Those are your words mate, now look what you are posting 5 weeks down the line, and in that time losing only once to Wigan, again not great as I say.
I appreciate it is your opinion, but whichever way you look at it, that is impatient and intolerant.
5 weeks and you have turned your belief on its head, amazing.
I will say it again, it’s the players, they ain`t good enough.

4.) 14 Feb 2019 13:21:26
That’s how you put your point across, structured so everyone can make sense of it, with evidence to back it up, not like a confused, angry child throwing his toys out the pram 4eva.

5.) 14 Feb 2019 13:36:54
Im not angry child i'm sick of haveing 2nd rate managers at our club, yeah i did say 5 weeks ago maybe he should have till nxt season i changed my mind results have got worse, and tbf i wouldn't trust him building villa up that's my view the thing is we have sum tricky games comeing up so give him nxt 5 games and see if team can do better if not bye byes.

6.) 14 Feb 2019 13:39:05
You don`t mean me do you chris?

7.) 14 Feb 2019 13:52:49
Ok villa dave, what is too look forward to nxt season mate, just say he is still in charge and were still not performing with new players, i just think the ships sank on smith in my view i'd give him 5 more games then if nothings changed get big sam in till end of season with job to get team in top six, with smith we are miles off, your telling me its all the players fault its abit of both look at man u players turned on jose 1of best managers in world and downed tools and now he's gone they start playing again, could u imagine us doing that in our jobs wed be fired;as for villa players they needs too be a massive clear out.

8.) 14 Feb 2019 14:42:26
Villa4ever, as we keep saying, still Brucies team . When Deano first came in we had a run of good games, but they have shown, they aren’t good enough to keep it going . The loss of Jack and Axel, have made a big difference. Chester it’s a bad player, but it’s proved he needs a strong player with him. Taylor gets worse every game, to indisicive.
You can see how Deano wants to play, but Brucies players are not up to it . If we don’t go up, I won’t be that bothered . Give Deano the chance to get his own players in . When we do go up, I want it to be with a strong team, playing to a system that they all buy into .
We all want to be back where we belong, but let’s do it the right way . Wolves showed us last season, this is what we need . We have a load of players who are just not up to it, they would not cope in the premier . So let’s build a team that with a few addition when we go up, could survive.
Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

9.) 14 Feb 2019 15:12:57
Not you Dave, I was talking about your post being structured, readable and backed up with evidence though, glad someone finally highlighted just how ridiculous some posters on here are, using their own posts against them.

10.) 14 Feb 2019 15:15:21
And your giving him 5 games “if not it’s bye byes”, how important do you think you are, I don’t mean to bust your bubble but you have absolute 0 input into that decision and fortunately our owners aren’t absolutely mental morons like the last lot and Purslow understands football, there’s absolutely 0 chance smith gets sacked between now and the end of the season.

11.) 14 Feb 2019 15:45:52
It`s all if, buts and supposition 4eva.
Last night proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the players we have are not up to it as a collective unit, watching the game proved it, everything is rushed.
Short of getting on the pitch, how can Smith get his ideas through to them, their passing, movement, technique, teamwork, are all missing, these are attributes most players should have in their so called lockers.
No mate I believe 50%-60% of our squad needs changing, and as we all know maybe Jacks fee will help fund any future plans Smith has in store for us.
Have some faith man, the bloke is a villa fan.

14 Jan 2019 10:38:58
Haven't posted in a very long time Hope your all well. I have been reading and it's good to see some things haven't changed, when we sacked Brucie I came on to see how everyone felt, to the poster who said something about their friend being big in property and Theiry Henry being nailed on as manager because he brought a house in Shirley, or something along them lines. I hope he didn't spend too much, unless he likes the commute to Monaco😂.

Just wanted to see what everyone thought was the problem at the minute, a lot of the press just keep saying "the defense is awful" and blaming that, we know it's not the best but personally I think there's more to it than just the defense being poor.

The obvious points are what Bruce left us with, 2 centre halves, a poor left back, and 3 right backs and a nervous keeper (before he got injured) . Now for me at right back Elmo should be as far away from the first team as possible, he is awful, his saving grace was meant to be that he can deliver a good cross, when he can't do that anymore what's left? Against Leeds 2/ 3 goals came from his side, one a gift and another just letting his man do what he wants cutting across him, then the penalty against stoke needlessly given away and then the own goal, just keep him away. Bree has shown he has potential but he's young, he's going to blow hot and cold, Hutton is probably the best option albeit limited. The centre backs now we have Hause and recalled Elphick, need to be settled, if Chester is injured don't play him, it's clearly effecting him, and left back should be top of our priorities, Taylor is very poor and has a stinking attitude in games when things don't go his way IMO. The keeper we addressed nice and early, the new lad is obviously a decent standard to be national team keeper but conceding 6 in two games says it all, he needs time, needs to get to know the back 4 and the league, not really what you want in January but we needed a keeper desperately.

The Wigan came was a shambles, I wasn't there but we were on Bein sport 12 or something and I watched it, it reminded be so badly of the Norwich away under Bruce or reading at home, where we literally couldn't put 3 passes together, didn't formulate one attack and just lumped it. Smith made a mistake Saturday with the subs, but he's human and he's new to the squad, we stuck with the 433 and left the two strikers on the bench, I would have thought we would have seen a 442 at some point especially at 2-0 down. Smith and all the coaches need time to get to know the team and it could be not next season but the season after before we see the fruits of their labour, we need to give them time.

Now we don't go from free flowing brilliant football against the best sides in the league, to smacked by strugglers over night. The biggest thing is jack missing, but even then this system is adaptable in that middle 3 to still be able to create that expansive attacking football. This is where I think my opinion differs from the most, I don't think missing jack is the biggest factor in this down turn of form, I think it's the number 6/ defensive midfield position. With jack in the team, Hourihane played that number 6 and even then I thought he seriously struggles through his lack of athleticism, players stroll past him and his only option is to run to cover someone else or back them down, starting attacks from deep he's brilliant but if your excellent at 50% of the job and poor at the other 50% then overall your probably below average. We got away with because even Jack as a 10 does come deep and covers a lot, and Mcginn as the 8/ box to box just doesn't stop running, so we masked the problem. From what's being written I think the Coaches see this as an issue aswell, going after Radoja, which would have been perfect if it weren't for the work permit issues. The way they are talking is not wanting loans which you have to agree with because it's building on sand and next season we have to start again, however if that's the position we are in then so be it. If buying cheap abroad isn't going to work because we can't get them work permits then loans with view to buy is probably the best option, although you can only field 5. Straight away when I think about athleticism in the defensive mid position I think of Nathan Chalobah, he's perfect IMO, missed 4 games through injury this year but has only made 6 appearances so he must be out of favour, there are definite options available.

Keeping hold of Tammy (fingers crossed, only 13.5 hours left before they can't recall him😂) could be crucial, but we need to supply him, without Jack that falls to the wingers, Bolasie for me has been a waste of time, when you consider his wages I think he's a headless chicken, can carry the ball and get us up the pitch but what's the point getting up there for him to balloon it out 99 times out of 100. Kodjia is an excellent option if the bench, he's changes the game a few times for us. El Ghazi is hot and cold but definite improvement especially in his attitude under Smith.

So that's my assessment of where we are with nineteen games left after saturdays nightmare, without getting into hysterics and crying that the seasons over. What are your thoughts?

1.) 14 Jan 2019 14:51:58
Good to here from you chris.
Can`t answer yet, still on the first chapter mate haha.

2.) 14 Jan 2019 15:32:53
Haha, hopefully you get through it Dave, be good to hear what you think. The length is probably a result of the absence, didn’t know where to begin when I started and then couldn’t stop😂.

3.) 14 Jan 2019 18:25:23
It's like a Sunday league mentality at the moment with some of the players. you know 'i play how I want when I want, as you've got no one to replace me'
Chester injured or not has not looked the same since he was holding Terry's hand
El Ghazi - terrible, can't pass the ball. When he gets tackled, he looks at ref for a free kick instead of chasing the ball back down.
To me it's like Deano is playing his own personal fanboy team, and will stick with it until he wins (aka mcliesh/ lambert syndrome)
This is the first week Dominic Revan didn't make the bench - he should get a game asap, can head and can tackle, not affraid of getting stuck in and he's vocal. Was very good for u23's last season.
Ahhh but then again we are the new Villa who loan out our decent player's.

4.) 14 Jan 2019 19:48:28
I agree with a lot of what you say chris and the theme of your post.
If you read between the lines I have said pretty much the same as you in an earlier post, but obviously not in so much detail.
My gripe is that the players are the ones who should shoulder the blame for the poor performances, and not the manager.
The players are all happy to soak up the praise when they are winning, the training is exactly the same.
The manager can only use what he has, you can`t paint a Rembrandt with a toilet brush.

5.) 14 Jan 2019 21:34:37
Couldn’t agree more Dave, we had games after game under Bruce of the same style, which put us on the back foot from the beginning, but we also had games under him where the style was the same but the effort from the players were noticeably poor. It’s the same now, the style has improved drastically but the players still seem to have off games where a large majority look like they’ve never met each other and their not bothered. It’s this that stops us getting automatic promotion imo, Wolves, Newcastle, Fulham (second half of the season), all kept up their effort levels even when they lost (and when they got spanked 4-1), they were always competing and putting in the effort. If we don’t start doing this and stop the stupid petulant habits when we’re losing (Taylor and Hourihane) then we can only hope for play offs in any season from now on.

6.) 14 Jan 2019 21:50:10
Spot on chris, I could not have put it any better.

24 May 2018 16:43:25
Kola novice has more or less wrote the villa team talk before the final, some of the things he's said today are ridiculous, never really seen anything from him until today but I can't imagine he's like this all the time because everyone seems to like him.

1.) 24 May 2018 18:34:09
Don’t know who Kola Novice is😂😂😂 it was meant to be Jokanovic.

2.) 24 May 2018 19:58:28
I even googled him Chris 😂😂.

I don’t understand what your point is mate, yes you posted a rumour, I just explained it, I heard the same thing aswell, wasn’t saying anything against what you had posted, just giving further information. There’s actually a video on the clubs socials where he throws his shirt into the crowd and then winces after holding his rib.

Fair play mate, I reckon if we can’t get Tammy go get someone else, that batshuayi that Chelsea constantly loan out is a phenomenal striker. Then maybe if his available Big Ben for the bench, but only at the right price. No matter what happens we need so many players in the summer, half the team is loans.

As soon as I saw Big Ben mentioned Dave I remembered me and you talking about him at length mate haha, I’d probably still have him back as a second striker, I’m probably blinded by the good times but I do think he’d fit this new system well, off the bench he’d be a quality option and when he was here before he really was phenomenal, top 5 goal scorer 3 seasons in a row in when you look back a proper poor team under worse management. I’d be wary of maupay, good player no doubt but his attitude is off putting and we should be very wary of signing strikers from Brentford who have had a half good season after Hogan. Probably need to see what league were in first, in the prem would be quality to get Tammy and then look abroad for another quality striker to push each other.

Why play him elsewhere? Because Remi Garde and Tim Sherwood knew best. How many jobs they had since we binned them off? Always liked Veretout, even out of position being asked to do what he wasn’t about he showed glimpses of his quality. Shame we haven’t got a sell on %.

Quite like that personally, think some of the figures may be off a bit, Bournemouth brought mings for 8 I think a few years back so they’d want more like 15+, Chelsea under embargo will be in no rush to sell anyone, to get two young players out of them will be an up hill battle, Wolves we’re offering 30 for Tammy in January (reportedly) so that will be like 35 in the summer. I do really like majority of the names you’ve mentioned, I’d probably go for someone other than ampadu and possibly sessegnon aswell. Mooy maybe for the number 6 position and then maybe look abroad for a winger, sessegnon doesn’t seem to be able to do it in the prem.

You talk so much sense and know so much, why aren’t you in a job within football? why aren’t you finding players who can handle the heat? why aren’t you showing them how to string 3 passes together? Beyond me. You are a fountain of knowledge and because you haven’t spent so much time watching Villa you have the right to talk whatever brainless thought pops into your head.
