Rumoured we are in discussions for Bjorn Engels (Belgium defender) .
Who is he and is he any good?

AkaVilla

1.) 11 Jul 2019 21:46:52
Always injured from what I’ve read, although if we do sign another centre back I think it confirms Chester is beyond repair.

Birmingham Mail claiming Cahill is on verge of signing for Villa though they do admit this is taken from National Press information.
True or false?
Good or bad for us?

1.) 06 Jul 2019 12:14:10
Think this depends on who’s next to him, I’d be happy with Cahill and Mings centre back pairing, because Mings has what Cahill has lost, legs. If Dean wants Webster for that right side, but Bristol are trying to rip us off then Cahill for a year sounds good to me, by next summer your letting things play out, if Bristol bottle it for a third year in a row then Webster could make Bristol sell him (transfer requests etc), or another Centre half could make a name for himself as a ball playing right sided centre half who could fit us perfectly. Same could be said for Phillips, if Leeds don’t go up this year then he could want to take his chance, and it is Leeds after all, owner could sell everyone else, Bielsa could walk a month into the season.

We have a young squad on the whole now, so a few older player to do a job for a season won’t kill us.

2.) 06 Jul 2019 14:54:31
Good logic there chris, great thinking and I have to agree with you.
I am agreeing with you again blimey, been in the sun too long hahaha.

3.) 06 Jul 2019 16:08:29
Haha to be fair mate I think the only thing we disagree on is Benteke, and even with that, with the what it will cost and the young foreign strikers you could get for the same money I'm coming round to your way of thinking!

This season is about staying up and for me Cahill is more than capable of helping us do that, so if we can’t get the lads for the long term, get ones that will do the job at hand and reassess next summer.

I am hearing Big Wes now has his work permit and is now a Villa player.
True?

AkaVilla

1.) 02 Jul 2019 11:35:03
Looks that way on social media.

2.) 02 Jul 2019 14:35:56
Already been pictures of him in and around Villa Park today, presumably to finalise the deal, have photographs taken and interview for the usual media announcement. So expect a formal announcement very soon!

Any thoughts on Kongolo from Huddersfield?

AkaVilla

1.) 22 Jun 2019 15:28:11
He is supposed to be a useful player, nothing guaranteed is it.

Problem is we are not sure he would fit in with our style, our staff and our fans, he might have attitude who knows.

With Tyrone Mings we know that is not an issue, he is a good player, he loves the club, he loves the fans, and we love him, a great recipe.

If it works why on earth would you try to fix it.

2.) 22 Jun 2019 17:23:06
On Tyrone mings, he looked good in the championship but we're stepping up another few levels and the one thing of concern is with how he deals with players with outright pace, not sure there, neither was Eddie howe, as for Kongolo, the fact he was prepared to go from a top team to Huddersfield for game time and in a team that had no recognised good defenders says to me he likes a challenge, showed he could play and wasn't a prima donna, to me that says he's worth a punt, a few have said there are similarities to van dyck with him, so I'd rather that than similar to Elphick!

3.) 22 Jun 2019 19:27:18
Tyrone Mings is nothing like Elphick, and is not short on pace, who have you been watching.

And yes we are stepping up, that is what players do, they grow into premiership players from youth teams and lower league teams.

Mings came to us for game time, and for the challenge, watch and listen to his videos.

4.) 22 Jun 2019 21:20:44
Fair points there Villadave, remember mings was at a premier club and still wasn't a regular in Bournemouth's team, so maybe Eddie howe thought his overall game wasn't enough, of what I've seen of mings he's prone to making rash challenges, but we all see things differently, for me Kongolo is a class above mings but again, just my opinion, if we get mings I hope he's a monster for us.

5.) 22 Jun 2019 22:00:20
fair play to you D. ellis.
It is all opinions, I think you will find Eddie Howe didn't like Mings request to play centre back, that coupled with his injuries messed things up a bit, hense the lack of apearances.

6.) 22 Jun 2019 22:42:30
Huddersfield had the second worst defensive record in the Premiership last season and Kongolo played in 32 of their 38 games. Mings made a few daft mistakes where he gave the ball away in dangerous areas but that should be something that can be coached out of him. On balance, I’d rather have Mings.

7.) 23 Jun 2019 09:30:37
I don’t think they’d be brought in as direct competetion for each other. And as pointed out how many goals did we concede with Gueye in front of the back4? Where is he now?

8.) 23 Jun 2019 12:00:17
Yes, but now Danny Alves is available having left PSG 😀.

Sky sports report Brentford turned the bid down several days ago.
Speculation is that is the reason we are going ahead with Trezeguet signing.
