So Southampton are said to want 50 million for JWP. Should we push the boat out then and smash our transfer record once again?
My feeling is we should go for it but sell one or two players to help finance the deal.
What are your views lads?

markdavfrance

1.) 18 Aug 2021 16:04:19
Yes I have to agree Mark, no use pussyfooting about mate, and complaining later in the season.
Get it done, why look at him in the first place, we knew what he would cost.

2.) 18 Aug 2021 18:34:09
Agree with you both

Try and get some money for hourihane, nakamba, even el ghazi

That might give us 20 million towards it.

3.) 18 Aug 2021 18:45:59
Not for me guys not only is it too much but if we have only one big money move then I don’t think JWP is the enforcer type we need for me I would be asking Brighton about Bissouma.

4.) 18 Aug 2021 19:00:18
So would I John in the ideal world, but as it stands we have shown no interest in him at all mate.

5.) 18 Aug 2021 21:12:21
Not that we know of Dave I agree, but then again we hadn’t heard anything about Ings before it happened.

6.) 18 Aug 2021 21:27:55
True mate, I just want a decent DM, that is the position that would transform Villa in my opinion mate.

7.) 18 Aug 2021 21:52:39
Totally agree.

8.) 19 Aug 2021 11:36:10
Agree Dave, it’s like the final piece of the puzzle. First year in the championship we were a mess all over the park, yet we had Jedinak, can’t remember the star but it’s either we didn’t win a game without him playing, or we didn’t lose any game in which he started. Either way it highlights just how influential that role is and how even when the rest of the sides a mess, that position can be the difference!

The problem with most of the speculation here is that we have to find buyers for our players and in the market at the minute there’s very few clubs prepared to spend what clubs want or what players are worth, everyone wants a deal. Usually one of the relegated clubs will pay up for four or five players but that doesn’t seem to have happened.

On here we all know despite his record last season, El Ghazi is so hit and miss that if you want to achieve something he isn’t your man, the problem is if we know that 99% of clubs happy to pay for him will work it out before a deals done, (unless of course Tony Xia is back in club ownership😂) .

9.) 19 Aug 2021 13:13:57
He's involved in a club alright Chris but it involves someone called Bubba, a shower and a bar of soap.

10.) 19 Aug 2021 13:55:05
Oh dear, oh dear oh dear😂.

11.) 19 Aug 2021 19:47:24
In all fairness I don't think it would take the full £50m I think they'd find it very hard to turn down 40, but a lot of it would depend on how much JWP wants the move. More often than not these days a player gets what they want regardless of a clubs valuation.

12.) 19 Aug 2021 19:48:42
Nevermind just seen the news about his contract - forget everything I said lol.

15 Aug 2021 13:18:27
The consensus seems to be that we need a quality DM and left sided midfield/ winger to take us forward/ to complete the jigsaw. Somebody on the Vital Villa site has just posted something that might be of interest. If you don’t follow the VV forum he has posted that Borussia Monchengladbach, due to their financial dilemmas, are willing to sell Denis Zakaria, DM, and Marcus Thuram, LM/ LW for a combined 50 million. Both are 24, ( right age) and both would surely be upgrades on what we currently have in those positions.

markdavfrance

{Ed002's Note - Neither will be joining Aston Villa Mark.}

1.) 15 Aug 2021 13:31:03
OK.

2.) 15 Aug 2021 18:37:45
Wouldn’t mind either or both mark, looks like the CM or CDM position is the more pressing of the 2, I still think there will be at least 1 more incoming before the window shuts, hard to tell who it will be as our business is kept pretty quiet and the “in the know people” generally don’t have a clue.

3.) 15 Aug 2021 19:49:03
Mark, have you being talking to dave? Is he still unable to post or has he given up on the site?

4.) 15 Aug 2021 20:15:33
Would love the pre injury Zakaria, he was on course to be one of the best in the world in the world IMO. Hasn’t been the same player since, hope he gets back to his best, nothing to do with Villa, just hate to see when injuries ruin players. Amavi is another, would of been one of the best in the world for me, before his injury he had everything, when he came back he was so timid and defensively not half the player he was before.

5.) 15 Aug 2021 20:56:52
Not “one of the best in the world in the world”😂 *one of the best in the world in that role.

6.) 15 Aug 2021 21:31:01
I am in contact Whack, and Dave would like to know when he can start posting again. He did tell me that he will be more selective and less active on the site, if and when he is permitted to participate again.

7.) 15 Aug 2021 22:27:25
Whack, I’ve tried replying to your question regarding Dave twice now but both posts were refused it would appear.
I’m replying again out of courtesy but I’m not going to say anything on the subject because it would seem that is forbidden mate.

8.) 16 Aug 2021 10:41:39
When you next speak to Dave mdf give him my best I certainly miss his posts.

9.) 16 Aug 2021 10:41:39

10.) 17 Aug 2021 08:59:37
I am not sure that the CEO will agree to any further signings, Smith as much as said so recently. I think they will go with what they have then try again in January if need be, with or without Smith! After £300million transfer activity and no Jack he needs to prove himself?

11.) 17 Aug 2021 16:22:47
If the reported bid for Doucoure was made, it would suggest a final transfer could still be in the can. I do still expect some outgoings may well occur, but whether that will only be in the form of loans, who knows?

12.) 17 Aug 2021 22:40:15
I doubt we will see any further signings, he has been backed at an unbelievable level its time for results!

22 Jul 2021 18:18:48
John Percy has reported that Stoke City want to take Keinan Davis on loan for the season and that talks are in progress. I think this would be a good move for Keinan as it it should give him regular first team football which hopefully would build his confidence, particularly in front of goal. Best of luck to Keinan if this loan happens for him.

markdavfrance

1.) 22 Jul 2021 19:09:48
More than 7 sides have enquired to take him on Lon in the championship, Villa aren’t rushing into anything but more than likely he’ll be sent out on loan.

2.) 22 Jul 2021 19:30:58
Any idea who the other teams are Chris?

3.) 22 Jul 2021 22:59:45
Don’t know all the clubs Mark but I believe Huddersfield, QPR, Preston and Swansea are in the mix.

4.) 23 Jul 2021 08:47:50
Villajohn Derby and the Baggies are also looking at Davis as well.

5.) 24 Jul 2021 21:44:06
I know a lot of fans have a soft spot for Keinan. Good hold up play, strong physical presence etc.

Call me Mr Meanie, but I can’t really see what the future holds for him at Villa. Yes, a loan might raise his profile and maybe his price, but I just don’t see him breaking in to the first eleven. If Alvarez comes along or maybe Bailey, his ranking is likely to diminish further. In the long run, he may best served finding his feet in the Championship and moving on from there.

18 Jul 2021 11:59:26
The Baggies are apparently interested in Hourihane. How about 12 million + Conor then for Pereira 🤔.

markdavfrance

1.) 18 Jul 2021 13:56:21
Not bad, you could even add Keenan Davis on a season long loan as a further inducement, but in fairness after an initial flurry of rumours linking us with Pereira it seems to have gone a little bit quiet on that front, I wonder if we are looking elsewhere?

2.) 18 Jul 2021 14:23:35
Love it Mark, Only just though mate, I was thinking about adding a sell on as well 🤔.

3.) 18 Jul 2021 14:29:25
John mate, I expect if the truth was known, we have probable not been looking at any of the mentioned players.
People are very prone to the "Notion", and get off big time on speculation.

16 Jun 2021 17:18:15
It would appear that we've had a 25 million bid for Smith Rowe turned down by Arsenal.
I can't say I blame them, he has the potential to be a very good player. That doesn't mean to say he will do though, many promising 20 year olds fall by the wayside. So whilst I can understand them turning it down and I think 25 million is a fair bid for this player.

markdavfrance

1.) 21 Jun 2021 20:24:48
It is suggest an improved £30M deal has now been made for young Emile. Gooners are spouting off at the disrespect shown by those ‘cheeky upstarts’ at Villa. Times are a changin’ as Bobby D once spouted….

2.) 22 Jun 2021 05:20:01
Yes I can definitely sense something ‘ Blowin in the wind’
AJ.

Further to my post a few days ago, I’m afraid I have some very sad news to pass on to you all. I have just received a call from Villadave’s son who has informed me that his father passed away last night.

Very upsetting news. RIP Dave. You'll be missed. Condolences to his family. From everyone over at the Leeds page.

12.) 12 Sep 2021 09:32:56
Football becomes insignificant at moments like this. A true gentleman and another Holte Ender in the sky. A sad loss and thoughts and prayers go out to his family. A friend I never met but had the pleasure of conversing with over the last few years.
RIP Dave you'll be missed but I'm sure he's arguing everything Villa with the Big Man upstairs ?.

13.) 12 Sep 2021 10:38:06
I never met him either, but I felt I knew Dave well and he became a dear friend. I will miss him.
Dave was a true Villan, and I bet you’re right Moose, he’ll be debating with the big man himself about the love of his life, ( after his wife and family of course) .
It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s already palled up with the great Ron Saunders.
If he is watching down, I’m sure he will appreciate all of your messages of condolence and that includes all those lads on the Leeds site, I know for a fact he enjoyed engaging in banter with you all.
My heart goes out to his wife, son and daughter and grand children, my deepest condolences.
Rest In Peace Villadave.

14.) 12 Sep 2021 12:16:50
You are right Mark news like this transcends all team rivalries. VillaDave enjoyed a good banter and was intentionally (or unintentionally) adept at winding up a few of our more vociferous posters. Our prayers go out to his family in this great time of loss.
RIP VillaDave.

15.) 13 Sep 2021 07:31:31
Rip VillaDave.

16.) 13 Sep 2021 21:49:16
Just caught up on this thread and I'm devastated. Never met dave but we have had some really good debates on here. Rip villadave, ill miss our chats.

07 Aug 2021 17:13:44
Congratulations to Dougie, gold medal winner at the Olympics. 🥇

markdavfrance

1.) 07 Aug 2021 18:47:45
Plays such a different role for Brazil, and thrives in it! Hope we sign a proper defensive mid so we can see Dougie in a box to box role.

2.) 07 Aug 2021 19:13:10
Yes fingers crossed Chris because Dougie isn’t cut out for that DM role at all imo.

3.) 07 Aug 2021 19:29:22
Haven’t seen any specific rumours linking us to Bissouma but apparently some money is going on him being our next signing. Here’s hoping!

4.) 07 Aug 2021 20:07:37
I think the jigsaw would be complete if we could get him John.

5.) 07 Aug 2021 21:31:40
He played slightly ahead of Fabinho in the Copa America and WCQ when he was involved. but in the Olympic team he was very much at DM. And he was excellent. Alongside / slightly behind Guimares in a double pivot not dissimilar to the system we could well employ. I think he and Sanson could well prove an effective pairing personally.

6.) 07 Aug 2021 23:28:24
Imo not a chance you could consider his position at the olympics a DM, I’ve never seen a system where your defensive midfielder finds themselves regularly on the edge of the opposition box, he was box to box, an old fashioned 8 so to speak, in my opinion.

He thrives in it, first season for us he scored some good important goals for us, and got some decent assists aswell playing that role. Last season with Barkley coming in, he was shoehorned into that 6, and whilst he was good on the ball, getting hold of it he was hit and miss, occasionally you’d see his attacking tendencies pull himself out of position, hence why we was so easy to play straight through in midfield. And why he often had to commit fouls on the break when he found himself chasing.

29 Jul 2021 20:15:27
There are a group of us who post on this site who have communication with each other by other means. It has come to my attention that VillaDave has posted several times today and none of those posts have appeared.
I am aware of what went on last night and it seems to me that if anybody questions or challenges whatever Ed002 writes, they are deemed to be stupid. I had the impression that Dave was merely seeking a little more clarity regarding Ed’s comments. Dave is a highly respected figure on this site and very well thought of and so I think I speak for everyone who posts on this site in asking why exactly is he being totally ignored like this.

markdavfrance

{Ed002's Note - You should all stick to Twitter or whatever, Dave is on vacation now as he recovers from being an idiot. I am sure he will have the ability to post again in a couple of weeks or so. He is not being ignored, but given the opportunity to come back a better person.}

1.) 29 Jul 2021 21:08:50
markdavfrance, I posted this morning asking people to be a little more respectful however that post was also censored,

{Ed002's Note - Not by me.}

2.) 29 Jul 2021 23:24:45
Are we being told, we aren’t welcome on this site and all go on Twitter, what on earth is going on.

{Ed033's Note - Not by me :)

He’s good Smithy, a young Pogbaesque type, but 40 million is far too much IMO. Proving ones self in the French Ligue 1 is one thing, being able to cut it in the Premier league is another. It’s still early days for Sarr, but he is talented yes. The work permit issue could mean paying over the odds to get round it apparently but for 40 million I think there are probably better options out there.

If true, it may mean the signing of another wide man is imminent. 15- 20 million for AEG would soften the blow of forking out for a 40 million player for thé left flank for instance.
