As bad as that final 10 minutes was, and it was as bad it gets, we have to give Wolves credit. They believed they could get something out of it as soon as they scored their 1st goal. At no point in the first 80 did I think Wolves would score one goal let alone 3 in the last 10 plus injury time.
McGinn was class today as was Luiz IMO.
Watkins? I'm seeing some worrying signs and his body language is also a concern.
Has his head been turned by some of the talk in the media of a move back to London?
I'm not saying he is playing badly, just that we're not seeing the type of energy we saw last year where he dragged defenders out of their comfort zone. Is playing alongside Ings an issue? Anyway I arrived home safely and will settle down to a bottle or two of San Miguel (other beverages are available)
UTV and keep the faith!

T77 couldn't agree more about ollie, something is definitely not right, the fans around me in the doug ellis were saying ings and Ollie don't work and i tend to agree. Smith can't persevere with something that patently isn't working, even if we had won today i still think there is a problem.

RIP Jimmy Greaves. A legend and unfortunate not to be in the World Cup winning team of '66.
Remember his Saturday lunchtime football show with Ian St John, Saint and Greavsie.
Also his cameo role on Central sport as a foil to Newbon.
He coined the phrase "Deadly" Doug.
RIP Greavsie.

I remember my first Villa game, I was 10 and my brother who was 14 took me to see Villa ply Spurs at VP.
We lost 4 - 2 and Greavesie got 2 and I thought he was the greatest and I always had a soft spot for him.
Superb footballer and no one can ever replace Saint and Greavsie.

RIP Jimmy.

Trinity, a striker from my error as I was 16 when we won the World Cup.
Many at the time felt Greavesy should have been playing after recovering from injury but Sir Alf felt differently and did it his way.
RIP Jimmy.

Wesley not even on the bench? A bit tough on him but who knows what's going on behind the scenes.
Does that means he's on his way out?
A very young team out there with plenty of experience at the back.

He is apparently off to club Brugge on season long loan.

Enjoyed that today. 1st 10.- 15 minutes we were a bit off it, a bit slow. But started to dominate thereafter. McGinn was my MotM today. Full of energy driving us forward and made some timely tackles and blocks.
Ramsey looking better it's every game. Great finish from Ings (will Ollie walk straight back into the team? )
All round a good performance without being spectacular.
Buendia is probably the only one who was slightly disappointing (I know, El Ghazi wasn't much better - but he knows how to take a pen)
3 points next Saturday and the season will be looking much better.

Perhaps Bailey might decide he wants to start playing next week and with Ollie back we might see a difference. I thought El Ghazi played better than usual - thank goodness the Geordies missed a sitter and then had the penalty award overturned.

2.) 21 Aug 2021 17:56:44
Very negative take on things menace, 3 points clean sheet, they didn’t even have a shot on target, decent result for a team bedding in new players, maybe we can win 4 nil next week.

3.) 21 Aug 2021 18:48:18
Not sure what you mean Menace re: Bailey?
He picked up an injury on Friday training. Staff decided not to risk him. Add to that I don’t think he joined us in matchday condition given his break following the Copa tournament.
I feel positive he will be a very good signing once he’s 100% fit.
I like the opportunity Ramsey and Bidace are getting. Got to be a big positive with more youngsters on the fringes.

4.) 21 Aug 2021 20:32:15
Such an awful take Menace, players can’t play injured for god sake. We dominated the game, Newcastle we’re left chasing over hit crosses and barely half chances, no sitters. As for the penalty overturned, no need to thank goodness or anyone else for that matter, the offside rule is a rule for both sides👍.

5.) 21 Aug 2021 21:01:55
OK. I’ll keep my opinions to myself muppets. From my seat in the stand we didn’t dominate to the point of looking like any sort of a threat to the top 6. They had most % possession, fortunately Bruce’s disorganisational management of some very good players helped enormously. I’ll leave you lot to fight with ED002 - good luck with that 😂😂.

6.) 21 Aug 2021 21:43:40
Who mentioned a threat to the top 6?

7.) 21 Aug 2021 22:42:09
We had 60% possession in the first half, they came back at us second half as you would expect chasing the game, yes we are far from top 6 but a huge improvement in defence from last week and we grabbed another 2 goals, lots more positives than last week and we are still missing 3 very good players, that was Newcastle’s best team and they couldn’t get an effort on target. last week had a lot of negatives and we were all quick to point them out so why not point out the positives after a good result, sure we ain’t there yet but big improvement and if we keep improving as the games go on we will have another good season.
I’m curious about your comment about bailey? Do you not like him? He came on last week after only a few days with the team and his first involvement was a cracking assist, I’m sure he would of wanted to push on after a good start for him personally, I’m not looking to pick an argument just wondering what’s your angle on him?

These players had better learn very quickly that Grealish has gone. It's time for them all to stand up now.
A poor 1st half and hopefully not an indication of life after you know who.
Mr Smith has got to earn his money now. A much better 2nd half is required by all.
Early days but not very pleasant watching so far.
UTV!

Chris, you’re spot on. A signing like they use to be. No leak, no fuss, just done. Great to see Sky and Talksport taken completely by surprise.
£30m? A bit steep or about right?

That is one out of nowhere. No rumours, no pundit quoting “I’ve heard”, no “in the know”. Just straight in. Like a deadline day signing weeks before the deadline. Great signing.

Had to read your post several times Chris. You’re normally very measured with your posts. Very unlike you fella. At least your follow up posts were more the old Chris.

Well Chris, he’s on the bench tonight I’m pleased to say but behind Nakamba who starts in place of suspended McGinn. When you have Sanson coming in it suddenly looks a bit busy in there doesn’t it.

Not at all Frenchy. I take the point.
As I say, I like the kid but how much game time is he going to get with us this year?
I honestly don’ think he’ll be on the bench ahead of any 2 of Trezeguet or Traore or ElGhazi or Barkley,
Keeping him is fine with me. As previously mentioned, it was a question?
Assume of the 5 positions we have Grealish, Barkley, El Ghazi, McGinn and Luiz starting that leaves 3 places on bench for cam/ am, Sanson, Trezeguet, Traore and Nakamba?
Assume all fit, where does Ramsey fit into that mix?

It’s clear Villa4eva that you are a little vexed by today’s result looking at the number of posts and also the variability of them also. I can assure you I share your frustration at today’s result and avoided kicking the cat into next week by the barest of margins (heard that somewhere else? )
Mr Smith might not be the man to take us on but he is in charge at the moment and we should continue to back him. He hasn’t let us down in the 3 years or so he’s been in charge. If a change comes, I’m sure the owners will have it sorted, until then we should get behind the him and the team and help drive them on next week. UTV!

Typing this as I’m sat in my car.
I will be lucky to get home without having an accident. I am absolutely stunned, I’m literally shaking with disbelief.
I don’t know what to say.

A very good performance today particularly 2nd half.
We were clearly missing some width, pace and creativity in the final 3rd and Leon Bailey provided that and more. Can’t ask anymore from him than that.
Bit of a blow losing McGinn to a concussion injury but Nakamba came in and did a job, a very good job.
As you commented Chris that released Luiz who played a more forward midfield role.
Great to see Cash score his 1st goal for the club.
I do think we caught Everton at the right time with their injuries but we’ve suffered this season too.

The youngsters are certainly showing promising signs. The recruitment of some of these lads has been very good and the so called home grown talent shows our coaching team know what they’re about.
Very encouraging.

Yes, the shushing was unnecessary. Save it for the Prem, when it matters.
I was agreeing with you about EG. He did at least give high fives to the young Barrow fans as he walked down the touch line.
