My mate reckons Bailey is as good as done, I don't know anything about these issues that have being mentioned, seems like a quality addition I'm excited for this almost as much as Buendia.

1.) 22 Jul 2021 20:15:39
Whacky, It might just be jealous idle gossip, from a team who are coming to terms with the fact the can`t compete with us anymore.
Or that once more another player has chosen us over them.
Our management have my backing on any player they choose.

2.) 24 Jul 2021 15:04:28
I respect the optimism in regard to a potential fee for Marv, but no one will cough up £20M. He has been seldom used by Smith and was hardly an ever-present before we bought him.

He breaks up play well, but doesn’t do a lot with the ball. If we sold him, we could really need a new no. 6 because Luiz, Sanson and McGinn don’t really do that role justice. However, Smith and Co. seem to have different ideas because they fancied Ward-Prowse, another no. 8. Maybe the thought is to go with 2 x 8 and try to adapt, although we did get overrun at times last season.

Apart from Sarr, the only other recent mention of a listed DM I can recall was Zamba Anguissa - and that trail seems to have gone dead.

Ed is it true we have made a third offer for ESR?

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure on the situation with offers, but I do know that Arsenal have rejected the opportunity to meet and discuss the player with Aston Villa.}

1.) 15 Jul 2021 13:52:22
Thanks Ed👍 I seen an article on news now saying we bid just under 33 million with add ons bringing up to 38 million but I’m not inclined to believe these things unless they come from multiple sources.

{Ed002's Note - Typically multiple sources will come from the same source.}

05 Jul 2021 00:11:30
Hi Ed, I've seen an article saying we have bid for Tammy, I want to believe it but I'm thinking it would be more out there on all the headlines if we did, do you think there's much chance of it happening?
Also ESR rumours not going away, likelihood of arsenal accepting if we come with a third bid of around 35 ish mill? How bad do they want funds to go and spend on their own squad.?
Finally have you heard of us having concrete interest in anyone who the tabloids or our own posters haven't picked up on yet?
Cheers 👍.

{Ed002's Note - (a) Aston Villa have informed Chelsea that they are interested in Tammy Abraham, as have others, but I don't think there has been a bid just yet. (b) Aston Villa are certainly interested in ESR and Arsenal are certainly in need of selling players but I doubt Arsenal will want to sell him as there are plenty of others they want to let go of first. So it is possible rather than probable.}

1.) 05 Jul 2021 08:47:52
A reported £32 million bid going in for ESR for me personally think this is a lot of money for a unproven PL player surely that could be spent on a more experienced player in his position? I've not seen him play so to be honest so I can't really comment on his ability.

{Ed077's Note - ESR has some PL experience. He did play around 2 dozens games in the PL for Arsenal last season.

Didn't you pay a similar fee for someone with actual no PL experience last season, for Watkins? And it didn't turn out that bad now, has it?

2.) 05 Jul 2021 09:03:25
Can’t understand why we are after someone for that Number 10 role when most agree we’d benefit from an out and out defensive midfielder. We have 3 player who can play that number 10 role adequately, we have arguably one player who could play that defensive midfield role to about premier league survival level, on current evidence.

Hope we end up getting someone for this position.

3.) 05 Jul 2021 09:48:59
I have a mate who is a Newcastle fan and apparently he has heard a premiership side has made an enquiry about Saint Maximin he knows we are looking for a wide man and is putting two and two together and coming up with five he is assuming we are that club, it would be really good if that were the case however I doubt very much that is the case.

4.) 05 Jul 2021 10:05:15
Very true Ed we did but Watkins was a proven goal scorer in the Championship and for me was worth a punt but ESR for me is going to be more of a gamble I feel. As I said I've not seen him play so I can really say much on the guy and as Chris has said we are awash with attacking players at the moment unless Grealish goes.

{Ed077's Note - ESR did impress for Huddersfield (?) in the Championship and has done well for Arsenal too. Whether an AM is of real need for AV or not might depend on the summer business.

5.) 05 Jul 2021 13:32:07
I think an AM is a must for Villa this summer. Our biggest issue is ball retention, we need more players who are comfortable in possession and can take the ball in tight situations like Grealish, the top teams all have this ability. ESR has a lot of similar traits to Grealish in this respect so I can understand why we are pushing hard to sign him, he also has the ability to play wide if needed during a match so Villa would have amazing flexibility and movement with Grealish, ESR and Buendia behind Watkins. Not to mention pressing. I can't see it happening but if it does, it takes Villa to another level in my opinion.

6.) 05 Jul 2021 14:33:35
I am in Chris’s camp I don’t really think an AM should be top of our priority list, I don’t know why we don’t push McGinn into a more attacking role similar to where he plays for Scotland and push the boat out and try to land either Bissouma or Berge.

7.) 05 Jul 2021 15:26:58
Its a Defensive mid for me as well, as chris has said, I think the majority were asking for this type of player for a long time.
We need someone who has the class, someone to stamp his mark on a position we have been no better than average in for ages.
I think if our next bid for ESR fails we should forget it, and try and get Axel back in as well.

8.) 05 Jul 2021 18:14:29
I think the signing of an ESR type will help hugely from a defensive perspective though lads, as will Buendia. Both capable of playing an agressive press but unlike last year, when we win the ball we will be able to keep it. I think we will sign a DMF as well by the way but understand why an AMF is priority for Smith.

9.) 05 Jul 2021 18:32:42
I get what you are saying BK, I was always complaining at our lack of ball retention.
It was coming back at us far too often and easily, consequently we were always defending, so yes totally agree mate.
But I think with Buendia helping Jack (if he stays) we are more than capable of holding the ball up, we are better than we used to be.
Watkins needs to have an outlet, he can`t do it all on his own, so I am hoping he will now have that.

10.) 05 Jul 2021 18:40:33
If ESR is the priority at the expense of bringing in a proven quality DM, there could be a solution if we go in for Axel as back up for Konsa and Mings.
I think Axel has all the attributes to become an effective DM.
I remember reading a lot of talk suggesting Konsa could also make a quality DM a while back also.
However there’s every chance we could get Axel if MU succeed in getting Varane, and if we do why not try him in that DM role while our first choice centre backs are fit.
A lot of ifs in there I know but you never know Axel could end up being our Bissouma. He would be a lot cheaper and would be always available to play the centre back role if needed.

11.) 05 Jul 2021 19:11:42
Hi Mark, hope all is good mate.
Totally with you on Axel, like I say we should concentrate on getting him in, we need him either way.
How about Young as a DM, can tackle, can pass, has good vision, he could give us 12 months while we find a gem.

12.) 05 Jul 2021 19:16:45
If we want an attacking midfielder how about Coutinho apparently Barcelona are prepared to let him go for £21 million, he supposedly wants to come back to the premiership, he is proven at this level, adds experience and the prospect of Grealish, Coutinho, and Buendia would in my opinion be very exciting. In reality he probably would want a higher profile club but if you don’t ask you don’t get.

13.) 05 Jul 2021 19:35:40
Definitely worth trying Young also Dave, perhaps doesn’t have the pace and aerial ability that Axel has though but has tons of experience.
Coutinho would be great John, still got a few more quality years in him I would imagine, by which time the likes of Chukwuemeka will be good and ready to take over.

14.) 05 Jul 2021 21:26:29
Thanks Ed 👍
Guys I’m not sure a DM is on smiths agenda this year tbh we have marvellous and Doug, marvellous has proved himself with his defensive side when given the chance (I know his distribution is not so good as Doug but putting better players around him is going to give him more options) I think Doug will play that role against the lesser teams and marvellous will play against the teams who will pin us back more. matic is a player I wouldn’t say no to, would come cheap and very handy to bring on when we need to hold out for a result.
Lots of talk about winks but our current midfield mauled him when we played spuds at the end of the season I can’t say I’d like him in a villa jersey.
tbh I think if we want an upgrade in that position it’s going to cost 40+ mill and I just don’t see it being spent this year in that position, smith won’t take maginn out of the team if he signs ESR so he has to find a space for him also.

06 Jun 2021 01:16:59
Another rumour I've just seen, 18 year old Senegalese midfielder, PAPE SARR, don't know much about him but he's described in the same mould as gueye, seems we have enquired about him he plays ligue 1 for metz, looks like he has potential but I'm sure he might have other admirers, all in all seems like a player who would fit the bill at VP.

1.) 06 Jun 2021 08:33:42
I heard about this kid few weeks back Whackattack and as you say described as next Gueye/ Kante type player, I think he is the type of player we definitely require but there is a lad a Monaco who's 20 his name begins with Tchumondia or something along those lines plays for French under 21's and watched him during under 21's tournament who I personally I think we should go for. Both are the type of defensive destroyer that we require.

2.) 08 Jun 2021 11:32:38
I have had a bit more of a look at Sarr. He looks a handy box to box player with a good long shot within his arsenal.

It is always a bit difficult to translate performance clips to how you would imagine he would perform in the Premier League. I suspect he could come good after a bedding-in period, but I struggle to see the press’s correlation between him as a DM and Sadio Mane, who is a LW. Apart from nationality and both being footballers, the comparisons look completely dim-witted to me.

03 Jun 2021 22:37:43
Looking like buendia is looking like a real possibility, the club seem to be really keen on him, very excited for this rumour it seems to be carrying a lot of substance unlike a lot of other rumours 🤞🤞🤞.

1.) 04 Jun 2021 08:42:28
Whackattack a lot of rumours this morning Bid of 30mill plus has gone in for him, hopefully this rumour comes true and with Emi on international duty with him he can convince him to come.

2.) 04 Jun 2021 11:56:54
Was thinking the same Rob, with Emi in his ear telling him how he was treated at Arsenal, and how it’s been the opposite at Villa etc. Hopefully we can pull it off.

I think payments up front will get the deal done, both clubs will match one another to get the deal done, then it will come down to who offers the most upfront, that will be most appealing to Norwich.

3.) 04 Jun 2021 18:30:05
Exactly guys hopefully emi tells him exactly how much of a shambles arsenal are as a club right now, beating them twice this year should also help and those wins at the end of the season make us look pretty positive overall imo.

4.) 04 Jun 2021 18:30:11
Wackattack Sky Sports are saying Arsenal have now gone in with a second bid of £35m.

5.) 04 Jun 2021 18:38:39
Just a little question for everyone then.
Is Emi Buendia a better player than Matheus Pereira?
and if you think he is, what evidence backs that up.
Don’t get me wrong I really like what I’ve seen of Buendia, but I like what I’ve seen of Pereira also. For me there’s little to choose between the 2 of them, and I would be delighted if we got either of them.
Norwich reportedly want around 40 million for Buendia though, I just wonder if Pereira might be a bit less than that.

6.) 04 Jun 2021 18:47:19
Yes, yes he is better. Evidence is watching the two of them. Both good players, Buendia is better. May benefit from playing in a more attacking system which obviously allows him to show his talent more, however you can only go off what you see, and anyone who has watched the two of them, more than just the odd games or highlights, will tell you, Buendia is better.

7.) 04 Jun 2021 19:20:04
That’s fair enough Chris, but I was just looking at their stats for the games they’ve played in the Premier League. The season before this one when Norwich got relegated, Buendia played in 36 matches. In those games, he scored 1 goal and provided 7 assists. Last season Pereira played in 33 matches, scored 11 goals and provided 6 assists.
I know Buendia’s stats for last season were impressive, he scored 15 goals and provided 16 assists. However that was in the Championship, whereas Pereira has proved he can produce outstanding stats in the Premier league.
I have got the impression that our hierarchy are very much swayed by stats, just saying mate.

8.) 04 Jun 2021 19:37:31
I have to agree here with ChrisAVFC Emi B is better the Perriera or however you spell it, i think he does more in games than Perriera does for the baggies, i feel he often goes missing in games and has that speical momment where as Emi B always seems to be in the action and involved and the type of player we need to help take the load of Jack. I think if we can land him he will definitely create a lot more issues for teams and if anything could make Jack even more dangerous as teams will have more than one player who can create anything from nothing.

9.) 05 Jun 2021 08:48:47
Simple answer-sign them both. That would really make a statement 👍.

10.) 05 Jun 2021 09:54:38
That would be great Moose, and according to Ashley Preece today, it is a possibility. 🤞🏻.

11.) 05 Jun 2021 10:16:30
The attacking possibilities with those 2 added to what we have would be insane, bring it on 👍.

12.) 05 Jun 2021 11:56:29
Pereira is reportedly available for 15 million which sounds like a bargain to me, can’t believe that’s accurate.

13.) 05 Jun 2021 13:21:15
I think we have a real chance with Periera but Buendia’s family favour a move to the capital, so I think it’s unlikely we land him despite press speculation.

14.) 05 Jun 2021 16:09:55
Agent Martinez will get it sorted, probably over a best of 3 at pool 😁👍.

15.) 05 Jun 2021 17:08:21
Hope your right Moose however I think we should know fairly quickly, the rumours are we are close to reaching a deal acceptable to Norwich, if that’s the case then if he wants to join he should sign if he prevaricates then that would suggest he is waiting for someone else to come in, if that’s the case then we should move on we don’t want Rashica 2.0 on our hands and look to land Pereira £15 million sounds like a bargain in today’s market to me.

16.) 05 Jun 2021 19:55:57
I thought his family preferred a move to the capital John?

17.) 05 Jun 2021 20:15:40
I hope he does sig for us it will be a real coup but he ain’t signed yet.

We should try a cheeky bid for couthinho, Barcelona in all sorts of trouble with wages, he may want European football but if he's good enough and deserves European football we would be playing it next year.

11 Jul 2021 18:48:10
See England fans at it again, why can't they behave themselves at tournaments, my mate lives in central London he's being sending me pics and videos since lunchtime it looks like mayhem over there he's really hoping for an English win or he reckons there will be riots all night, this is one of the reasons people outside England hate to see them winning anything.
I know it's not every England fan, lots of you are decent people and you all get bad press because of these morons, it just ruins it for everyone, I'm not sure who will win tonight I think it's going to be a tight game, first goal is crucial I see it being decided by 1 goal difference.

1.) 11 Jul 2021 19:22:16
They reckon there are about 200+ broken through security doors, this could cause big problems, with the fans already in there . All the FA need, is a mass brawl .

07 Jul 2021 22:22:20
Shame to see Denmark getting cheated after all their effort.

{Ed014's Note - what effort, we’ve been all over them, shame your man failed to show up again!

1.) 07 Jul 2021 22:40:55
An og and a dodgey penalty, says a lot for all the talent they have they are embarrassing. Sterling wasn’t touched and if it were grealish in the premier league every opposing fan would be saying he dived but because it’s in England’s favour fans up and down the country will look past it.

{Ed014's Note - you’re not bitter then! 🤦‍♂️🤣

2.) 07 Jul 2021 22:42:27
He had 20 minute to show up Mount had 70 and did f all.

3.) 07 Jul 2021 22:43:19
And 2 balls on the pitch in the area where the play is, bit of a joke, no neutrals will agree with you Ed.

{Ed014's Note - I could care less to be honest and what’s not to agree with, England were better than Denmark and Grealish did nowt! 🤷‍♂️

4.) 07 Jul 2021 22:44:02
Are you having a Paddy Whack? 😁.

5.) 07 Jul 2021 22:49:58
Well lads Southgate’s treatment of Jack might work in our favour in that I don’t think it matters whether he plays for us Real Madrid, Barcelona or anyone else while Captain Beaky is in charge he ain’t going to get picked to start.

6.) 07 Jul 2021 22:58:02
England we’re glad of jack and his assists to get them to where they are, there’s about 5 England players who have showed up for the tournament and jack is 1 of them, you sound like the bitter 1 Ed but then so would I if I won something I knew was ill gotten.

if England play the final like that Italy will be happy. I don’t know about you but I’d rather see great goals win a semi final, don’t get me wrong I didn’t think last nights game was anything special either, was a poor tournament by all means I thought a lot of the big players were poor throughout.

{Ed014's Note - why exactly would I be bitter, really? 🤦‍♂️

7.) 07 Jul 2021 23:00:58
Great that we won, but it was a soft penalty, I reckon Boris was doing VAR 😁.

8.) 07 Jul 2021 23:10:22
A bit harsh Ed, and to be fair even my wife thought it was tough on Denmark.
Not a pen, and an own goal, and I guess you are not keen on our Jack.

{Ed014's Note - what’s harsh? We were the better side, Jack was poor.

Nothing like a fan, massively over rated for me, way to much falling over and not much end product.

Be better staying with you where he’s the big fish

9.) 08 Jul 2021 01:28:30
Like it or not Southgate has gotten England through to the FINAL!
Football is always going to throw up controversial decisions and that included our great World Cup side in the 1966 final.
I for one will be supporting England on Sunday with or without Grealish and if we win will not care how we do it. At this stage all that matters in winning.

10.) 08 Jul 2021 06:01:04
My last comment here seems to have gone missing, nothing inappropriate in it either.

{Ed001's Note - give him a chance, it was aimed at Ed014 and he has not been around to reply. We do have to do things like sleep you know.}

11.) 07 Jul 2021 23:20:54
I don’t care enough to argue Ed I just said it was a shame to see a semi final decided like that.

we will keep our big fish all day long mate, personally I wasn’t hoping to see him light up the euros I’m happy to see him light up villa park every other week.

just as a matter of interest Ed which club do u follow?

{Ed014's Note - of course you were hoping to see him light up the finals! 🤦‍♂️

12.) 08 Jul 2021 00:12:43
You were salivating over him less than a month ago Ed😂😂 this is why England have failed for so long, not just players who couldn’t drop inter-club politics/ rivalries, but fans like you who constantly try to use international games to run players down. We are into our first Euros final and your first thought is to come on here and slate a player, says a lot about you👍

Like it or not he changed the game against Germany when we had barely created anything, today he came on, added more attacking impetus than Mount did in much less time, job done, onto the final!

{Ed014's Note - luckily fella I’ve never ever in my life salivated over Jack, he suits your little club to a tee. Big fish and all that.

Has to be one of if not the most over rated players, after Pogba, in the Prem.

13.) 08 Jul 2021 07:04:42
Grealish did nowt?
Well he did have a good shot saved and he did put it on a plate for Kane right at the end of normal time. I think he did more effective work in 20 minutes than Mount did in 70.

14.) 08 Jul 2021 09:41:53
I’m Irish ED 14 so no I wasn’t hoping to see any English player light up the finals🤷‍♂️ That and no extra attention needed drawing to how good he is in my book I’d rather keep him at villa than have more clubs circling him. like I said on the Leeds page, England the better side but a shame to see it decided like that.

{Ed014's Note - it’s no probs Whack but for his own confidence you’d want him to do well mate surely.

15.) 08 Jul 2021 09:46:57
Thing is Ed, if you want to go on the wind up, you have to disguise it better! Your opening line “your boy done nowt, again! ”, 2 assists in three appearance before last night, so the games up before you even get to start reeling!

8/ 10 for the idea but unfortunately it’s 2/ 10 for the execution, must do better! 😉.

{Ed014's Note - nice try! 🤦‍♂️😂😂😂

16.) 08 Jul 2021 09:49:13
Set Sterling up aswell mark, shots went over the bar. Created more chances than Mount in less time, and gave away the ball less than Mount and Phillips, per time on the pitch etc. People just expect more because of the high standards he sets. Overall a good cameo, vast majority of our shots on target came in his time on the pitch, so he certainly upped the tempo and helped turn the screw as he would have been asked to do!

17.) 08 Jul 2021 10:02:17
At international level I’d take it or leave it Ed, I’ve said on here before not that long ago I wouldn’t be sorry to see him not picked after his change of alligance from Ireland to England, of coarse I wish him well but I’ll lose no sleep, unless it’s villa related lol, after the last 7-8 years of supporting villa I’ve had enough of sleep loss😂😂.

{Ed014's Note - haha I’d forgotten that, he should have stayed with you guys!

18.) 08 Jul 2021 12:41:31
Grealish and rice would make a serious difference to our midfield and probably would of had us at the euros aswel, bamford is another eligible for Ireland, I know players want to play at the highest level but Ireland play the best teams in the world same as every other country. anyhow that dog has being well beaten at this point there’s no changing it now, best of luck to England and Italy on Sunday, may the best team win and I’m hoping for a 3-2 or 4-3 kind of game I don’t mind who wins if it’s a game worthy of a final.

28 Jun 2021 22:34:36
Ed I just want to clear up the grealish story. we know there is interest from city it is clear as day and we are not in denial about it, we believe it could happen but we hope it don't. this particular conversation we have being having is about a particular article that "caughoffside" published yesterday claiming that the deal has already being done since the end of last season for 88 million.
the general consensus from us is that our owners wouldn't of signed off on this before the euros and not before lots of negotiations to get a higher fee and possibly see if anyone else is interested so they could start a bidding war if they can.
So basically caughtoffside are talking through their behinds and fabricated the story that this deal is already done, although a deal might be done before the window closes (we all know this)
Every other publisher is now crediting caughtoffside as the source.

{Ed002's Note - Then why all of the nonsense about agents? But thanks for the explanation.}

1.) 28 Jun 2021 23:01:11
I think opinion is that the agents will encourage a deal so they can make money from it, hence where some of the rumours are coming from.
Anyone here that thinks there is no truth in city having genuine interest is clearly blind, me personally I think it’s a 50/ 50, depends on 3 things, jacks desires, how much city are willing to pay and thirdly our owners resolve to keep him or will they want to balance the books.

{Ed002's Note - His agent will do what he can for the player to get him to step up to a club with a far better chance of the player being successful. The agent will of course be rewarded for doing this.}

24 May 2021 22:28:09
I see the rashica articles are back doing the rounds, 1 guy I have really had enough of, I don't even rate him he shouldn't make our bench after his last 2 seasons.

I think Southgate has done is a huge favour at the euros showing jack what it’s like to have competition for his place and not starting every game, also substituting him, he’s the first name on the team sheet at villa and always will be, he’s the main man he gets so much ball it will be very hard to give up all that. I also think he was much prouder when he lost 2 cup finals with villa than when he lost it with England, maybe it meant more to him having played more or just cause he’s villa born and bred.

There’s no resolution to it BK there will be speculation until the window closes and it’ll be back in January, just guys trying to sell headlines, the way I see it there’s no substance to it until they submit an offer so no point worrying about it, even if he signs a new deal it won’t guarantee him staying if you remember delph. it would be worse if we didn’t have players good enough for other clubs to want to buy at the end of the day.

Thanks Ed👍 I seen an article on news now saying we bid just under 33 million with add ons bringing up to 38 million but I’m not inclined to believe these things unless they come from multiple sources.

{Ed002's Note - Typically multiple sources will come from the same source.}

I’m not to excited about this 1 guys, from what I’ve seen of him I don’t think he’s an improvement on el gazhi, maybe more scope for improvement but still has a lot to prove before he makes me think he’ll light up the premier league.

Im not reading into anything until it’s announced that villa accepted an offer for him, just tabloids looking to sell papers and clicks, yes there is interest there but interest only go’s so far without a bid, I think he stays at least another year and if we don’t get Europe he go’s next year. Selling your best players and investing in new players is not a recipe for success look at Southampton and the talent they sold and where are they now.

Willock a player that really interests me, IMO he kept Newcastle up last season and great scope for potential improvements.

{Ed002's Note - Willock will almost certainly make a permanent move to Newcastle.}

Has ESR signed it yet? From looking at the arsenal page I kinda thought he had but I haven’t seen the headline anywhere.

That’s a fair point John, he is good with his head and we do need a John Carew type player for when we need to change things up, Davis could be that player in 2 seasons time but he needs a season or 2 playing every week before he is valuable asset to us imo, in the mean time mitrovic could be useful if he was going pretty cheap.

Has ESR signed a new deal at arsenal? Busy week at work I must of missed it if he did, thanks in advance.
