So Rodrigo bentancur is a player we are after according to a few reports, have to admit I know very little about him, has anyone got an informed opinion on this guy?

1.) 22 Jan 2022 23:26:00
I presume that if this is true that the move for Bissouma is dead

2.) 23 Jan 2022 16:26:49
I'd imagine so but was bissoma ever realistically going to happen in January, my opinion is he wants a big move in the summer and we would of just wasted the whole window chasing him

3.) 23 Jan 2022 18:32:16
There is a question mark over his character as well. I'm not too disappointed that we seem to have moved on. He would have cost a lot too. It's all money we can't spend elsewhere with FFP.

09 Jan 2022 21:01:38
Stories on Digne really taking off

08 Aug 2021 13:04:57
Axel just confirmed, welcome back lad and good luck in the season ahead.

1.) 08 Aug 2021 17:32:43
Despite days worth of articles claiming he has "picked" Newcastle over us due to promised playing time - got to love NewsNow and all those 'in the know'.

2.) 08 Aug 2021 19:14:44
Lol there has being a lot of that going on this window, villa conducting their business really well and everyone involved are keeping the information well under wraps and allowing us to get our deals done without interference which is great and probably saving us a few quid aswel.

22 Jul 2021 19:17:12
My mate reckons Bailey is as good as done, I don't know anything about these issues that have being mentioned, seems like a quality addition I'm excited for this almost as much as Buendia.

1.) 22 Jul 2021 20:15:39
Whacky, It might just be jealous idle gossip, from a team who are coming to terms with the fact the can`t compete with us anymore.
Or that once more another player has chosen us over them.
Our management have my backing on any player they choose.

2.) 24 Jul 2021 15:04:28
I respect the optimism in regard to a potential fee for Marv, but no one will cough up £20M. He has been seldom used by Smith and was hardly an ever-present before we bought him.

He breaks up play well, but doesn’t do a lot with the ball. If we sold him, we could really need a new no. 6 because Luiz, Sanson and McGinn don’t really do that role justice. However, Smith and Co. seem to have different ideas because they fancied Ward-Prowse, another no. 8. Maybe the thought is to go with 2 x 8 and try to adapt, although we did get overrun at times last season.

Apart from Sarr, the only other recent mention of a listed DM I can recall was Zamba Anguissa - and that trail seems to have gone dead.

15 Jul 2021 10:00:39
Ed is it true we have made a third offer for ESR?

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure on the situation with offers, but I do know that Arsenal have rejected the opportunity to meet and discuss the player with Aston Villa.}

1.) 15 Jul 2021 13:52:22
Thanks Ed👍 I seen an article on news now saying we bid just under 33 million with add ons bringing up to 38 million but I’m not inclined to believe these things unless they come from multiple sources.

{Ed002's Note - Typically multiple sources will come from the same source.}

Got to feel sorry for el gazhi moving to a club and the manager sacked the same week, even his picture with the Everton Jersey don't look right on him and it seems at least a size 2 big ?‍♂️ very odd that they done the deals they done while being so close to sacking rafa. then you have fools like paddy Kenny saying they are now looking like relegation fodder just because they signed him, however good he is he has played an important part in our rise from the championship and scored some important goals to keep us in the Premier league I wish him the best of luck but sadly I think it was a bad move for him.

1.) 17 Jan 2022 09:55:40
At least it’s only a loan, wouldn’t surprise me if he ends up at Roma, apparently Mourinho was interested when he was at Spurs

2.) 19 Jan 2022 16:04:11
By the time he’s ready to move, Roma will have parted company with Mourinho methinks ?

15 Jan 2022 18:36:55
Again a terrible goal to concede, looking better the last 15-20 mins, comon Villa let's win the second half.

1.) 15 Jan 2022 18:55:35
Of the 25 men on that pitch everyone has been rubbish except Buendia, Telles and de gea.
Officials again showing their ineptitude. The ball didn't do a full rotation on their free kick for the goal. We almost scored from a corner when Konsa had kicked it out. Blatant foul throw missed and they almost scored from a free kick when their player was flying in like the karate kid just before dignes foul.

2.) 15 Jan 2022 19:38:53
Got to be happy with that result from being 0-2 down. but it was disappointing that was ever the case to begin with.

If we can cut out the individual errors we've actually got the makings of a good side with a competitive squad!
Man u were again nothing special, they were better than the other night but they're still definitely beatable and its a missed opportunity to do the double over them in the league.
Also thought Matic could have had 3 or even 4 yellows.

Besides the mistakes we kept the ball well and made things happen throughout the game.
Ramsey had another very good game, Digne slotted in nicely and Coutinho has announced himself back in the premiership with a bang.

Onwards and upwards. UTV

{Ed014's Note - they were as poor as ever and it didn’t help you gifted them both goals!

3.) 15 Jan 2022 19:41:47
What a comeback, kudos to Ramsey, and great to see coutinho open his account against the scum, digne provides that attacking threat but we were left exposed quiet a bit, buendia really finding form I thought he was our best player even though jj got a goal and assist, emi will be disappointed, at the end the draw felt like a win.
finally if there’s 1 player in the league I absolutely hate it’s Bruno and his cheating rat face.

{Ed014's Note - didn’t help you gifted them both goals whack and 100% agree on Bruno, he’s a ratty little W⚓️!

4.) 15 Jan 2022 19:43:37
For sure Ed, they created very little, we were our own worst enemies today

{Ed014's Note - you were mate but when you played you were by far the better side mate.

5.) 15 Jan 2022 20:03:45
There is signs there to be optimistic about, hopefully we can push on, 1 or 2 more players will make us a really good side, shame we had no maginn today he’s a huge loss, sanson is not half the player that our super John is.

6.) 15 Jan 2022 20:07:46
Fair play to Ramsey in that 10 minute spell.
I'm still torn on him though as if anything he was a symptom of the same Villa we have watched for several years. He did very little for an entire half and gave the ball away too often. Second half when we're losing he decides to wake up.
I'd still prefer to start Sanson next game. I felt of the 3 he was the one that ran the game today. He was blamed for the second goal but he was under pressure and Mings had the head start if he'd actually come to the ball so I don't believe it was Sansons fault.

10 Jan 2022 20:51:22
Mings again

1.) 10 Jan 2022 21:22:24
You spelt Ings wrong. He should have been the one stopping that cross rather than being where Watkins already was.

Also, if you're going to blame anyone in the box it's Cash and Konsa who were at the back.

If you want to be critical, fine but stop throwing the same players under the bus every time just because you don't like them.

2.) 10 Jan 2022 22:10:37
It was mings fault he didn't attack the ball and he knew it, konsa lost the mind with him after it and he had no response but put his head down, he was asleep, we didn't lose tonight because of mings we lost because the officials are not fit for purpose, absolute joke var done everything they could to disallow that goal, if they were going to use the block as the reason they should of checked it first instead of using it as the last chance saloon, it was the first thing that happened in the move but it was just an excuse, cavani wasn't going to stop that goal, officials need to be held accountable, united players fouled us every chance they got when we had them under pressure, shaw was booked about 15 mins to late, every time we play united or City we get cheated out of something. also you can't use your hand in football so how it it not a foul and a penalty if you hit a played in the face that hard that his nose bleeds, that was a penalty if it was at the other end.
Back to mings its not that I don't like him but his mistakes are costing us against the big teams he needs to up his game he's meant to be the captain.

3.) 10 Jan 2022 23:02:22
Whack I’m with you I think mings switched off and drifted

4.) 11 Jan 2022 06:11:14
The flight of the ball meant Mings had no way of getting it, he's a big lad but he'd need to be another 2 foot taller to even have a chance.
Mings may be captain but that doesn't mean you can expect him to do every job and win every ball over the whole pitch.

5.) 11 Jan 2022 10:42:57
No just the balls in the 6 yard box, I didn’t realise mctominay was 2 feet taller than mings, and even if he couldn’t jump high enough to get something on the ball at least he may have put him off if he had of went for it.

6.) 11 Jan 2022 11:59:07
Mctominay was behind him. Mings was in the centre with Konsa and Cash at the back post. The flight of the ball was lofted with dip so Mings can't have been the one to attack it.

7.) 11 Jan 2022 16:20:27
Think as a team we should've pushed out to the ball sooner and pressured Fred more. McTomminy ran past 5 of our players to get on the end of the cross. Sanson for McGinn Saturday and hopefully last 30mins for Coutinho

8.) 11 Jan 2022 16:39:09
RK I guess we will agree to disagree, we all see different things in a scenario ?

08 Jan 2022 14:47:26
So there has being lots of talk on here about where we should strengthen, with LB and CDM being the most popular suggestions. we might now need another CB with axel leaving so I'm asking everyone for the name of the player they want for each of those positions, only 1 name for each position so you must choose.also keep it realistic ?

1.) 08 Jan 2022 16:36:34
Lb I would like digne as he gets up and down, the way way way gerrard likes to play! Good crosser of the ball aswell!
CDM kalvin Philips or bissouma
CB gomez

16 Dec 2021 22:58:17
Anyone think Newcastle got what they deserved tonight? Players faking injury to get the game stopped when they were under pressure shouldn't be rewarded, no clash of heads, no actual injury, I've got a few bangs on the head in my day and any bang you get that would make you go down like that and need treatment is a bang that you wouldn't be fit to play the rest of a game after receiving it, I think the ref was spot on with this one, might make players think twice before cheating, 2 much of it going on these days.

1.) 17 Dec 2021 00:29:13
They definitely did! Think the league need to sort out the rules for postponing games though, maybe 5 1st team players out?

2.) 17 Dec 2021 02:15:04
You can only play 14 players in a single game, premier league squads range between 20 and 26 players as far as I know, they are either premier league players or they ain’t in my book, time for them to get on with it they get paid enough, if you have 11 plus 5 on the bench they should be made to fulfill the fixture, just like when we had to play teenagers against salah and co. a team could have 5 or 6 players out injured and they won’t get special treatment so I don’t see the difference tbh

3.) 17 Dec 2021 08:09:38
Injuries can't be spread though. Clubs do all they can with testing but it will never be 100% conclusive meaning that a club with multiple cases in the playing and management team are risking other clubs if matches go ahead.
There needs to be clear guidelines on how many players/coaches test positive before a club quarantines itself and suspends matches.

4.) 17 Dec 2021 11:38:36
For the ordinary working man, if there’s 10 cases in a factory where a few hundred guys work, the factory does not close down, the sick people stay at home, these footballers have access to any medical needs they may have at the click of a finger. I know the injuries don’t spread but COVID don’t spread if you follow strict guidelines either but footballers think they are above everyone else and rules shouldn’t apply to them, they need to get their act together, get them all vaccinated and stick to the rules. I’m a firefighter and we have had some cases in our station, but we never had more than one case at any one time, we work pretty close to each other when we are on the job but we follow the rules we all got our vaccines and not once has our station being stood down cause of multiple cases, we do this for about 500 quid a week, these guys are earning between 20k and 300k a week but they can’t do the things that us normal folk do even with all the facilities made available to them.

5.) 17 Dec 2021 13:15:44
I agree on your point re cheating Whack but I would rather see something done about diving and the persistent offenders like Maddison whose theatrics get worse and worse and nothing seems to be done about it. Re the head injury thing whilst I agree in principle with what you are saying I would be concerned if the ref doesn’t stop play on a potential head injury because if he gets it wrong and doesn’t stop play and you have an injury a la Raul Jimenez or one closer to home when Dion broke his neck in that collision/challenge with Gerald Sibon then the consequences could be really quite serious so personally I would rather the refs play it safe, and as much as anything I think Riley didn’t blow because he likes controversy and also likes to be the story rather than the game.

6.) 17 Dec 2021 13:26:02
Whack, agree with everything you said, top football clubs seem to be able to manipulate every situation. The premier league have said 14 fit outfield players and teams should attempt to fulfil the fixture.

If top teams are allowed to dictate whether they play or not, this current situation will run for weeks and then they will belly ache about fixture congestion.

Managers complaining about refs before a game, hoping to influence future decisions, players feigning injury when under pressure and clubs using covid to manipulate things in their favour is spoiing the game as far as far as I am concerned and something needs to be done.

7.) 17 Dec 2021 13:33:42
I think there are a couple of problems with what you suggest firstly you can’t mandate people to take the vaccine and an estimate of the number of EFL players who are unvaccinated is as high as 25% apparently.

Secondly it’s the integrity of the league where 3 points can be the difference between the title and relegation, so personally I wouldn’t be too chuffed if Villa got relegated and one of the reasons why that had happened was because one of our competitors were given the opportunity to play against the second string of another PL side and secured the win that kept them up and sent us down.

I do think however procedures need to be agreed on what to do now and I think the fairest thing would be to close the league down for a couple of weeks to allow things to settle down a little.

8.) 17 Dec 2021 13:46:09
Whack, the factory workers in close proximity go home. Which of the 25 players don't come into close contact with each other during training?
Football clubs don't have medical teams that can magically do what no other doctor in the world can do right now and eradicate covid.
You're saying football is being put above other people but what you're actually saying is they should be forced to carry on when everyone else is being told to isolate under the same conditions.

9.) 17 Dec 2021 13:49:07
Also, you go on about flouting the rules but people catch covid even when being cautious.
Footballers have families who could pass it into them so it's unfair to say it is spreading because of them not following guidelines.

10.) 17 Dec 2021 16:28:54
They are training outdoors mate, if there is a positive case just test them all and send home for the day, test results will be available the following morning so anyone that don’t have covid can come in and train, it’s not that hard, and I’m sure that most top flight teams have access to quicker results than the rest of us. no team has positive cases in double numbers so they should be made to field a team from a squad of 25.
And yes they all have families like us all, they get huge amounts of money every week they have the means to be extra careful and should be able to keep their family safe at the same time, the pods and bubbles worked last time there is no reason they shouldn’t be working this time.

11.) 17 Dec 2021 16:44:15
I hear what your saying lord but teams are missing multiple first team players every season that’s why we have squads of around 25, the top 3 or 4 teams can field 2 teams of top players any week such is their squad depth, I just think this COVID is being used by some clubs as an excuse so they can get players back from injury and that’s not exactly fair either as every club has to deal with injuries every season, we played a bunch of games last year while missing jack, Bert, Trez, sanson, and it scuppered our season, I think we had a couple of guys missing a game or 2 here and there aswel and we had to suck it up, I think unless teams have over 10 players infected they should be playing their games, a squad is a squad, if they ain’t good enough they shouldn’t be in it in my book.
fifa and uefa need to stop all the international and European games and give the domestic leagues a chance to stay going.

12.) 17 Dec 2021 17:28:54
I see what you're saying whack but there are still issues with that argument.
It doesn't matter that they are outdoors, they are in regular physical contact with sweat, saliva and heavy breathing.
While they get test results within 4 hours I think there is the issue of supporters having already made plans and started travelling by the time the results of that day's testing are received. 1 or 2 people at a club being positive is low risk but if there are 4 or 5 of the main squad and coaches who are positive then there is a high risk several more are in the incubation period. It isn't fair on the majority to cancel a match on the day for foreseeable reasons so it only makes sense to have a predetermined number of cases where action is taken.
Having a written rule also stops all the issues we're having where some clubs are getting postponements while others aren't when they think they are in a similar position.

13.) 17 Dec 2021 17:53:06
So Whack I understand what you are saying but some clubs are declaring 5 or more players-unavailable due to Co vid. I agree that losing 1 or 2 to injury is part and parcel of a Premiership season but to lose 5 to COVID plus the other injuries a club has to face as part of a normal run of the mill season strikes me as a little extreme. The question I would ask is would you want to play City,Utd, or Liverpool if we had lost Martinez, McGinn, Konsa Watkins and Cash to Co vid bearing in mind we are already without Traore, Trezeguet, Bailey and Nakamba? I don’t really want to play those teams when I have a full squad so I certainly don’t want to play them if I potentially had 9 players unavailable. The thought of Steer in goal against any of the above gives me nightmares at the mere thought of it.

14.) 17 Dec 2021 23:02:36
If the 9 of them were injured we would have no choice but to play other players, I know it would be unusual but still it could possibly happen and there’s nothing in place to save a team if it does happen.
on the other hand if any of those top teams were missing 9 first team players all the lower teams would be only to happy to play them.

15.) 18 Dec 2021 12:49:00
I get what you are saying but even if the league want to continue if the numbers continue to rise as they are I don’t think the government will allow things to continue and they will take the decision out of everyone’s hands.

Wowzers that's a major red flag. surprised he was allowed to leave the country on bail I would of thought you would have to surrender your passport, that kind of drama is not a great look for a player.

Bailey looks like he has no future in this league, to injury prone so far, personally I think we need some options as in wingers, not every game or team is going to suit that formation, we got to be able to change things up if we have notions of getting into Europe

I'd be surprised if we let him go, everyone thought we were light in that position so we bought a second LB, now we have 2 good options and people are talking about selling 1 of them, I wouldn't sell him for less than 20 grand, preferably I wouldn't sell him at all, digne still has to prove himself at Villa.
