We just have to concentrate on play offs now automatics gone, but I must admit Fulham have a better chance than us I wouldn't want to face them at the moment because we have lost all our confidence, on our day we can beat any1 I'm still picking us to win play off final win I had 20 quid bet at start of sradon .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Mar 2018 19:26:03
Knew at half time that we were only going to get a draw or a loss, when you have 3, 4 clear cut chances you have to take them and when you don't this happens. Adomah was awful, missed 2 sitters, Snodgrass bar one or two good crosses was anonymous. Whenever either winger is blocked off by the full back instead of playing the ball into the midfield who are in acres of space they constantly lay it back to full backs who in turn go to the centre backs and it's either to the keeper to hoof it or the centre halves hoof it themselves. It's starting to remind me of the Lambert era, so negative, unless it's with jack who looks to be positive it's constantly backwards or hoofball. But even with that being said, we made enough chances to win the game, same as against Bolton, we have become toothless.

But hopeful, you love it when we lose, it’s the only time you pipe up, you hate it when we win, you don’t say a peep - that is the exact way you would describe a blue nose, therefore by simple logic, you are a bluenose. Wipe that snot of the end of your nose.

Very poor again from the lads
Where is the side who thrashed wolves?
If we are not careful the play offs could go pear-shaped as well,

01 Apr 2018 14:24:44
Don’t take it literally chris, I mean we need to win all of our games to make sure we are in the playoffs,
If we keep playing like we have in our last three games we will be struggling to stay in there.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Apr 2018 14:55:22
Yea you are right there, we probably do need to win all of them just to ensure we do stay within the play offs. Sorry mate I did read it literally as in we need 21 points to stay fourth, 20 and we will drop😂 my bad.

on way to Hull I'm predicting 4. 1 Villa. When Kodjia is fully back where will he play if you remember Bruce played him on the wing sometimes and he use to cut in very much like Albert but with Snodgrass there now maybe we could play him up front like we also used to. Playoffs going to be so hard but I think we will win if we get to the final.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Mar 2018 14:05:32
Steady on wtw, your talking as if we are in the playoffs already.
A couple of weeks ago people were talking about us going up automatically, and we all know how quickly that changed.
Let us all remain confident without spouting off about it.

We cannot afford any more slip ups, every game is a cup final.
Any loss will limit our hopes.
The talent is there but the total commit sometimes disappears.
No more can we look at other clubs and say " they will drop points" a 100% run in is now essential and that will only give us a playoff slot.
Don't look at the results of the others, they make no difference. 100% to the end is the target.
SB, get them motivated, make them hungry, another year in the champs is unthinkable.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

30 Mar 2018 18:03:50
So you reckon if we don’t win all 8 games we won’t get the play offs?

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Mar 2018 22:06:10
I would bet anyone that Villa will not win their remaining 8 games.
I do not want to seem pessimistic, I am only being realistic.
I would love us to win our last 8 games, but our quality and consistency will I fear, let us down.
Play offs yes I am fairly confident.
Lose at Hull and I will be very worried.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Mar 2018 07:33:54
Chris, no I don't reckon that we need to win all 8 but we need to try to win 8 to be 100% certain.
We are 7 pts clear of 7th place but teams are coming up fast.
Target 8 victories, minimum 6.
Play off places are still up for grabs and we don't want Fulham in the first round, therefore 4th or 5th should be better, assuming we don't get 3rd as 4th play 5th and 3rd play 6th.
We could make automatic but silly defeats mean this is unlikely.
8 wins outstanding, 6 just enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Mar 2018 17:06:18
Well Cardiff win again,
Last 10 games they have won 9 and drew the other,
I thought they would blow up but give them credit they deserve to be where they are,
I was born in tiger bay so I'm not so disappointed as I should be,
Now to stay in play offs and get out this horrible league,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Mar 2018 11:56:34
I keep looking at the table and millwall look a really big threat for the play offs,
I said this 2 weeks ago and they just keep on winning,
Just don't want to see villa play them in play offs,
I know we have the better squad but they have a winning mentality coming at the right time,
And there is always a team creep in the top 6 at the last few weeks who go up,
Just hope that does not happen,

I’ve thought this since expansion plans were first talked about, we don’t fill what we’ve got at the moment, even when we was in the prem we averaged 32 - 34 thousand a game. If we are competitive and successful we will probably get that up to 38 but if we want to start filling the 45,000 and then looking at expanding they need to make football affordable for everyone, Huddersfield went up and charged £130 a season ticket, in the premier league ticket sales is the smallest part of the clubs revenue, Real Madrid, Bayern all charge tiny prices. As the chief exec at Bayern said “charging fans 300/ 400 instead of 100 is ridiculous, it’s 2 more minutes in the board room”, it’s a drop in the ocean when you have the TV money like the prem, make it affordable, full what we’ve got and then look at expanding. Giving us 60,000 now would look ridiculous.

Feeling quietly confident this morning, news coming out from the players that they believe 6 or 7 wins in our last 8 games will be enough for automatics, thinking about it they are probably right. Cardiff are on a brilliant run, however it is very unlikely they will continue this till the end of the season and if they did they deserve to go up, with that being said they were on an amazing run before Christmas and then lost 4 on the bounce, with Derby, Wolves and us in their next 4 it wouldn't be that shocking if it happened again. I believe we have more than enough to make play offs comfortably, and if that's where we end up I think over two legs we have enough ability and experience to beat anyone over two legs, and in the final I think with the likes of Terry and Bruce who have been there and done it we can get over the line. Hutton is back in full training, Green and Kodjia both played 45 minutes in a friendly yesterday, seems like things are all coming together for a last push. The likes of Grealish, Terry, Snodgrass and Adomah who aren't involved in international duty will be resting and then coming back keeping fitness up raring to go. The next 8 games could really be the biggest of our recent history, let's enjoy it as one, when we went down we were a shambles on and off the pitch, I couldn't have picked more than 3 players who I liked and I thought cared, every week you'd hear "we want our villa back", now we have got a squad who get it, and get us, the connection between the team, the club and the fans is back, so no matter what happens in the next 8 I think we can agree we have got our villa back, and we've got a squad of players who give us 100% and do us proud.

You’ll be glad to know you’re in good company Chris. Highlights from the Supporters Trust AGM last night (specifically the Wyness/ Round session) .

There is a general strong belief within the club (players and management) that we can still automatically go up. Steve Round talked a lot about the noticeable changes this season up at Bodymoor, with a wholly different attitude, team spirit and desire to wear the shirt. With the players they brought in, he said it was as much about attitude as ability. Terry has been instrumental in the dressing room and training as you would imagine

However, there are two parallel plans being worked – one if we go up, one if we don’t. This includes planned player recruitment as well as the ‘who will stay and who will go’ debate. In terms of player recruitment, they are looking within the UK, across Europe and have a particular focus on scouting right across South America (dedicated Scout) .

Kodja played 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors match yesterday and came through well. Now has 2 weeks of the international break to train with the squad. Should be back before the end of the season – probably not for the Hull game but possibly the ones after that.

Not that it’s at the top of the list of priorities but we are getting a brand-new pitch over the summer. It was due to be done for this season but the day they were discussing it with Dr Tony we won a ‘pitch of the year award’ so he decided to give it another season.

On the subject of loan players, Steve Round reminded us that, if we do get promoted, we will only be allowed two on the team-sheet at any one time (4 currently I think) . Also, in answer to a direct question, none of our loan players are on a ‘guaranteed’ number of games deal.

Lots of positive stuff about the quality of the Under 23’s coming through, though I think there was a general feeling it would be nice to see more of them being blooded in the 1st team.

Round seemed pretty sure Terry will stay if we get promoted (“has expressed an interest”), but will depend on FFP if we don’t. On the subject of FFP, Wyness said that there is currently an active debate around getting the allowances raised for next season (which Villa are leading) . Apparently currently 17 clubs are in agreement, but they need 18 votes. Make of that what you will.

Follow-on session with Peter Wythe and Sean Teale was entertaining, but tales of just how pissed Paul McGrath was most of the time will have to wait for another day .

Menace, I enjoyed reading your post mate, it is very informative, with some great news and topics.
Chris, I think our chances of going up automatically have more or less evaporated mate.
Mathematically yes it is still possible, but I honestly think we have missed our chance especially after our last couple of results, which unfortunately highlighted numerous weaknesses.
The playoffs I think are our best chance if not our only chance, and I do agree that over two legs we are capable of beating any team in this division, if we turn up.

I’m with Dave on this, I think we had our opportunity, and somehow threw it away after the wolves result. However, that result shows we are capable, if the players don’t freeze.
Over two legs, with the second at vp. I wouldn’t bet against us, a one off match at Wembley? Who knows. but hoping that jt’s Experience of the place, with his big game nouse might be a factor, but I know it’s a straw I’m holding! But I’m not letting go!

The 2 defeats have been a massive dent in our quest for top 2 finish,
We can still do it it's not impossible but the way that Cardiff are going it's looking they hold the box seat,
As for the play-offs we need to finish in 3rd or 4th to play our first games away from home,
Would rather we get to play at home in 2nd leg,
What we have to watch is that we make them play-offs in first place,
There are many sides gaining on us and 2 more defeats would be very worrying,
But I'm confident we will make the play-offs,
There are still many surprising twists around the corner to end of season,

Genuine question here, will you ask them, with the play offs looking more likely, are they looking at doing something similar for the home leg of the play offs with flags scarfs etc like we have done for the wolves game, Bradford a couple years ago, and then something similar at Wembley? I always think that helps and makes the opposite team visibly nervous and gives us an advantage.

Yes next season you will be top dogs in the midlands if we don't go up but enjoy it while it lasts because look at the albion it didn't last long. You will never win the league or the European Cup like we have done so you will always be in our shadow as we will have cups and titles that you will never have not to mention a better ground and a bigger fan base. What do fans on here think about This issue if we don't get promoted?

We had this discussion in the pub and if we don't go up it was 50/ 50 Some said marco silva or dean smith for the record iam not a bruce fan but i would stick with him because he knows the squad and it has been a good season because we have won more than we lost. UTV.

If we don’t go up we are going to be losing 2 or 3 maybe 4 key members of the squad, that’s outside of Johnstone and Snodgrass. In someways it would be an awful time to change manager as we are putting ourselves on the back foot again with so much change, however in other ways it’s a perfect time to change gaffer if that’s what the board want to do as it give them the oppertunity to shape a new squad for next season. Personally I’d stick with Bruce should the worse happen, however seasons not over yet and I believe we are going up!

Where have wolves gained all these fans from? Couldn’t even sell out half their ground last season, a little bit of success and it’s packed! Will they all disappear again when mendes walks away, or when the premier league don’t allow them to carry on the way they are, or when Neves and the rest of them no longer wanted to play in the tropical paradise of wolverhampton😂💩. Nah come on lads we gave them enough when we embarrassed them at Villa Park, let them have their moment. But remember we’ve been around long enough to know that when they start getting pumped every week in the prem, wolves fans seem to disappear, and they’ll go back to taking half allocations to away games and closing whole stands at home, so just be patient lads.

Two losses on the spin, don't think we've done that since Reading and Cardiff start of the season. We need to sit back, relax and regroup. This two games have gone, no need to criticise it isn't going to change anything. We are 4th, possibly 10 points off 2nd with 8 games to play, during 80% of the season most fans would have snapped your hands off for play offs and we've done bloody well to get here considering how we started. Now Cardiff need to drop 10 points for us to make second, their most likely losses are Derby, Wolves and Us, personally I can't see it happening but never say never. The main thing we need to focus on now is ourselves, get everyone back fit, bring back the team spirit we saw before these two games and get some form going into what will be the biggest 2 possibly 3 games of our recent history. Make no mistake about it, failure to go up this year has grave consequences, we have been at a huge advantage these last two years but that luxury ends come the end of the season, we will have to sell one or two of our best players and we will see very little coming in for the next few years. We are on the cusp of a defining moment within our history, personally I trust this group of lads and the manager to get us through it, but no matter what let's just make sure we do all we can, get the atmosphere up and let the players know we are with them all the way!

Ftp will really hit us hard next season and lots of out better players will be off to new pastures,
We have done well to get where we are and if you look at other blogs they want Bruce out now,
That is not the way we have to stick with him whatever.
Bruce had made mistakes but tell me manager's who don't?
This from a fan who did not want him as villa manager
He has done a good job and we need to get behind the team to make sure we make the play offs at least,
Because looking behind us there are many teams closing on us and we can't afford many more slip-ups,
Team to watch for play-offs are millwall,
They are really flying up table,
Come on villa get back on a winning streak.

I am pretty sure Bruce will not be reading this, so it should appear that I am not getting on his back, I am giving my honest opinion about our manager and team.
After all the euphoria and chest beating following last weekend`s result, it did occur to me that something like this was going to happen.
I have said on here before that I get fed up with all these false dawns with Villa, and I can see one happening again, let`s be honest and get real, we are far from being the best side in the division.
Far too often we flatter to deceive and are getting found out far too easily again, you can see it from the stands and you can see it from your armchair, if you can`t beat a team like Bolton on their showing last night what chance have you got, and yes I think we were that bad.
As you already know I do have my reservations about Bruce, and I have aired them on here many times, so nothing new, and I honestly think if we do go up, the likely hood is we would come straight back down, that is an assumption of course not a certainty.
I noticed yesterday how Bruce was walking up and down in his area totally devoid of any ideas of what to do, and wishing something would go in the net off a divot in the turf.
I also think the substitutions he made were more in desperation than tactical, there were four strikers on the pitch at one point, when it was blatantly obvious we needed creativity from midfield, it is that plan B thing again.
If the players we have in our squad performed at the levels they performed at when we purchased them, we would surely be where Wolves are now, once every third game is not good enough.
I love my club with a passion, and crave for top flight football at Villa park again, our position is still very favourable.

Thanks lads, hard to be positive at times like this but just remember this season we’ve beaten Fulham, beaten Middlebrough, beaten wolves. On our day on big occasions this season we have showed up, we have struggled against the teams we are expected to, but when the pressure is on and on the big occasions we have showed up. With John Terry who has won everything at club level, been the key figure in dressing rooms that have achieved amazing feats like when they over turned the deficit against Napoli. James Chester been promoted before, Jedinak the same, Chester and Taylor in the wales squad that shocked everyone at the euros, Hourihane captained Barnsley to promotions, Adomah Snodgrass. I can go on. Bruce has go teams promoted through the play offs more than once, they say it’s a roulette but experience has to play a part and for 3 games I believe we can beat any team from this league out in front of us.

Very poor.
Why did they keep under hitting passes?
Bolton knew what we were doing and caught us out every time.
In this weather surely a poke at the goal was worth a try. Did we have a direct shot?
Even the play offs look tricky now.
Fulham look like a solid 3rd so we want 4th or 5th, we don't want them in the play off until the decider.
We can beat all of the teams on any day but not every day all of the time.

Games like this is what has cost us automatics. They capitalise on poor defending and then create literally nothing else, we create 3 or 4 brilliant chances, take non and lose. Conditions were awful but the same for both teams, Taylor should have been sent off for the challenge on Bjarnson and we should have had a penalty for the handball in the first half, with that said when we needed them Adomah and Snodgrass went hiding, Grabban wasn't good enough and missed chances. Elmo and Bjarnson are weak links that's cost us so many times tonight, you can't account for that, we need them out.

And if we are not careful the play offs could be out of reach as well,
We have messed it up now for 2nd place
Just hope that Cardiff lose 3-4games but does not look likey now.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2018 09:48:03
Why is it unfair? Adomah and Snodgrass went hiding, same way they did against QPR, however Elmo consistently played us into trouble, the corner they scored off was because Elmo lost possession trying to hoof it out when there was plenty of options and he couldn’t defend for toffee. Bjarnson got ran all over, consistently miss placed passes and melted under pressure, several times in good attacking situations with loads of options he ruined our oppertunity. It’s not unfair, just saying it how it is.

If, (and yes it’s a big if! ) you could guarantee promotion this year, would you rather second spot, or to go up via the play off?
A rather pointless question I agree, but a debate my father, son and I had nevertheless!
They both think second. which to begin with I agreed. but when you think it through, to go up winning the play off is almost as big as winning the league (almost, I would swap my right testicle to be where wolves are) but the boost it gives to the following season is there to see.
I accept I have only looked at a few, not many, but of the teams to go up over the years, the play off winners do best. then there is the trophy, look, a cup is a cup, and allegedly that match is the richest in club football!
So.
I say, if we can hand on heart say next year we are in prem, I would love to go up via a trip to Wembley.
What’s your thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 Mar 2018 21:34:21
If it’s garuanteed, then play offs every day of the week and twice on a Sunday. Imagine the scenes winning at Wembley, I think it’s gives you more exposure aswell, Newcastle went up top last year but Huddersfield were the big story and their win at Wembley was one of the driving factors behind that. More drama, more excitement and more exposure, show everyone we are on our way back. If you go up automatic then you get the attention of the usual championship press officers and journalists, you go up in the play off final at Wembley live on sky and everyone watches everyone listens, this group of players deserve some national credit, polar opposites to the group that got us relegated.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Mar 2018 08:20:49
It's great to win a play off final at Wembley but my god the feeling you get if you lost the game is really unbearable to watch,

From here on in is a cup final now and this is where experience comes into it with the likes of Terry Jedi and co we have to get behind the lads like last Saturday never heard villa park like that before Anyway why are we afraid of playoff I'm pretty sure nobody will want to face us in it as Well, We will go up this year 1 way or another believe in the lads.

I have a theory, for me it has taken a bit of the sting out of what has just happened.
If we take the two scores from our last two games and reverse them, had we lost 3-1 to wolves on Saturday and then beaten QPR 4-1 last night, maybe we would not be so upset about all this.
Although losing 3-1 to wolves would not have been ideal, a 4-1 win against QPR would surely have made up for it.
My point being we would still be in the same situation as we are now.
I think the annoying aspect of all this, is the fact that Cardiff and Fulham are not slipping up at all, so I am resigned to the fact that if we do make the Premiership this season, it will be via the play offs.
Either way, we would have to overcome Cardiff or Fulham.
Come on Villa don`t blow it all now, yes it`s going to be tough, let`s have 9 from 9.

We never do things the easy way but 27 points to play for, we’ll need close to all of them to get automatics.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Mar 2018 18:36:41
I hope you a right about the automatics chris, and I agree this weekend will be paramount for us.
A big problem now has to be Fulham, looking at their fixtures I can`t see them losing a game, they might draw a couple but that’s about it, I hope I am wrong.
As you say though, if we get favourable results come the weekend, we will still have a slim chance.

Villadave very good point, funny enough my son said the same on the way home Tuesday . Nice to see Bruce, agrees he should have freshened it up and not gone with same players . Obviosly he doesn’t read this page HaHa, enough posters made the comment . All we can do is keep winning and we can play our part in turning up the volume at the park . Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

I really believe that derby beating Cardiff and villa beating Bolton is the only results we need this weekend,
But I see derby are on the slide and have injurys to key players plus suspensions,
So I can't see Cardiff losing to be honest,
But I'm not giving up in my belief we will get that 2nd spot but it will weaken massively if the results go against us weekend,
Come on you lions!

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Mar 2018 08:16:42
Don’t think anyone on here said to freshen things up before the game, hindsight is a wonderful thing, but if he had made changes and we went out and lost he’d be getting pelters with “you don’t change a winning team”. It was a proper banana skin but it’s done now, let’s get back on track Saturday.

I agree Davedean, I think the Jeddi should have been rested for Bjarnason, and Lansbury could have done with a run out in place of Hourihane who has been bit off colour the last couple of games.
Still it was not too be, Shame.

Agree2 Disagree0

15 Mar 2018 20:08:10
Jedinak should never be playing 3 games a week, he looked absolutely knackered. I’d start with Bjarnson and Hourihane Saturday and then bring in Lansbury at half time, just for the fact swapping the whole midfield from the start might effect the team. I’d probably go 4-4-2 with hogan back in and either Grabban or Davis with him, give Jack a rest and bring him in last 30 or at half time. We’ve got a big squad, injuries have killed us this season but at this moment we’ve got several options, it’s time we used them. We win on Saturday and the pressures on Cardiff Sunday, with Derby and Wolves their next 2 games the game could be down to 1 point come 1st of april, in a perfect world!

14 Mar 2018 07:50:30
Time to find out who have the balls to get back up and start again.
Last night is now history and SB must turn them round. If any of them thought we were certs, wake up!
It should only be a blip and SB is experienced enough to give the right message to the players for Saturday.
What he should have done and what he did with selection has put us back after the Wolves game.
Or did the players sit on their laurels believing that it was on a plate.
Whatever, the juggernaut must turn around and ignore last night, go back and push forward again.
We can beat any team on any day but we can't beat them every time.
The warning was given and must be heeded.

Didn't see that coming, honestly thought they would set up to stop us . As it happened they didn't have to, didn't win one 50-50, could'ent pass, & every header went to a hooped shirt . Weve had this happen before, good Saturday, jaded Tuesday . Honestly thought, with the effort put in on Saturday, Btucie would freshen it up tonight . We have players like the Jedi, who struggle with two matches in a week . Also Jack& Albert are only just coming back to fitness . Hope Hutton is back soon, Taylor has no confidence and is indisicive . We now appear to be back in the realms of, playoffs, or hopefully somebody else cocks up . All we can do is keep winning, every game really is like a cup final .

Have to say unfortunately saw this coming and was not surprised. Think Saturday took great effort mentally and physically and last night we were tired and not at all at the races. Classic case of not being able to lift ourselves for the after the Lord Mayors show. Expect play offs but still time for the odd twist and turn. UTV.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Mar 2018 22:04:55
Banana skin of the highest order, nearly every player was bang average, they wanted it more and put in more effort and energy. Jedinak can't play 2 games in a week, saying that they all looked tired and half arsed. It was always going to be hard after the levels of energy and concentration shown on Saturday, however with the experience of Bruce, Terry and co you'd think they'd know about this sort of likely dip and get us back up for it. 27 points available but as we've got to make up 7 points to get to second we probably need to win every game to make the auto's. We normally bounce straight back after a loss so hopefully straight back on it Saturday, whatever will be will be and we have to these lows the same way we take the highs of Saturday.

Hutton just gives so much effort all the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Mar 2018 14:57:11
Brynner that's a good question mate, especially after Saturday.
I do like Hutton with his commitment and passion.
But I would have to go with Taylor, mainly because of age and long term prospects.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Mar 2018 15:58:18
Hutton for me, I'm staggered how much he has turned my opinion through sheer determination. If I were picking my best team for a one off game he's one of the first names for me at the moment. I don't think we concede that goal on Saturday with him in the team and I believe that adomah plays with more freedom in front of him.
Villadave, you say Taylor's age goes for him, but he is 29 so not too far behind Hutton.
On performances this season, if/ when we go up, he deserves another year.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Mar 2018 16:33:46
I agree he deserves another year contract, and I see what your saying, you may well be right, Hutton has been great.
The age thing is 4 and a half years difference, Hutton will be 34 come November, Taylor was 29 last month.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Mar 2018 16:46:05
Two years ago most fans were ripping Hutton to shreds, how times change.
If we go up I have a feeling He would be found wanting somewhat in the prem, especially as left back is not his true position.
Just another reason I went for Taylor.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Mar 2018 17:48:55
Hutton everyday for me, desire, and passion we all know about. but he is better on the ball than Taylor. A few times on sat he sailed very close to the wind.
Also. Taylor still loses his head, and flys into certain challenges that make me cringe. Was lucky that he wasn’t shown a red against wolves.

That’s a real good shout Bob and not as daft as it sounds mate.
They are playing really well and have been slowly chipping away at the teams above them, I think they may have left themselves just a bit too much to do though.
But I do think they will have a big say in the final positions, they have got to play five of the top 6 before the season ends.
I hope they don’t need three points against us last match of the season to make the playoffs, especially if we need a result as well, our record against Millwall is not good at the Den.
My joints squeak enough as it is, don’t want the bum to start squeaking as well.

Well did not see that coming. one of the best team performances I have seen at Villa Park for many years, could not say anyone had a bad game. I was not a big fan of Grealish before this season I thought he was talented but ran into blind alleys. since is injury he has matured into a player and he reminds me of Gazza, and that can't be bad. Hope he continues to develope and if he does we will have some player on our hands. JT for me has been the signing of the season not only on the pitch but in the dressing room as well. Snoddy has impressed me with not only his skill, but his desire and work rate. Grabban looks like he can poach goals, and Thor what an improvement - for me has to start against QPR.

One thing that surprised on Saturday, was that the wolves did not have a plan B . They have become I suppose, that used to turning teams over, that when it didn't work on us, they where lost in what to do . Also I agree with all that you are saying about Bruce . He has certainly, turned the Villa around . The whole infostructture, outlook and vibe of the club has changed. Long may it carry on and take us back to where we belong . They seemed to just look to use the wide areas, and their wings backs constantly hugged the touch line. That’s largely why they lost, when they tried to hit the big long diagonals I’d guess only 3 or 4 out of about 12 came off, most the time they was over hit and went out of play and the other times their lads couldn’t control it and we either nicked it or they put it out of play. We did well to nullify their flare players like Jota by simply crowding them out, they always seemed to run into bodies if they took more than one touch.

Highlight was watching the 15mil, champions league standard, next big star in midfield, who liverpool and man united wanted. getting absolutely mugged the life out of by grealish, who wolves fans said wouldn’t get near their match day 18 let alone starting 11. As soon as Grealish got a tiny bit of success that was it, megged him once or twice, showed him the ball enough until he lunged in then quickly shifted it and left him on the deck. That was the best I’ve seen grealish yesterday, better than the Liverpool semi final, his running with the ball, his skills, his directness, composure and even his passing and vision was absolutely quality. Keep him fit for these last 10 games I’d back us to go up automatically. Imagine our options if Kodjia can get back fit before say the Cardiff game in 4 weeks time, we’ve got Grabban, Hogan, Kodjia, Grealish, Adomah, Snodgrass - that’s ridiculous. Since Bruce took over we’ve always been sound at the back but now we can really hurt teams and get at them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Mar 2018 09:59:54
I think everything that needs to be said about yesterday has been said, playing like that we can beat any team in this league. Looking forward we've got 10 games left, the next 5, although 3 are away from home, we've got to be looking at 12/ 13 points from: QPR (H), Boston (A), Hull (A), Reading (Home) and Norwich (A) . If we manage that then the following 5 where we have Cardiff, Derby and Leeds at home and Ipswich and Millwall away we should be absolutely flying, the same way we was last night, and you'd back us to pick up another 9-12 points! I think if we can keep the levels of last night and manage to reproduce it these last 10 games I think we'll finish on around 92 points, in the last 5 years that would of seen us champions twice, automatic once and play offs twice. However with Cardiff's run in youd expect their form to dip, keep concentrating on ourselves and the next game and we should be up automatically.

My only team I fear is millwall last game,
Might seem silly but hate to go there getting a win to get 2nd place,
We have a poor record there and just hope we are in 2nd spot before we play them,
But in present form we should fear no-one in this leaque,
Got a feeling Cardiff in next 2 games will drop points,
Fulham are my big concern they have the easiest run-up for me,
But win our game in hand and we are 4 points clear of them,

It`s going on again, another thread of arguing, bickering and bull sht, and please don't tell me it is just banter.
I am not preaching or soapboxing, I am just trying to understand the purpose of this forum, if someone can clarify the reasoning behind some of the posts on here, I will gladly listen.
This is just an observation, can I ask why some people on here seem to have some sort of vendetta against the certain posters.
It never ceases to amaze me that when topics and opinions are raised and others including myself submit their input, there is hardly or never a response, it then gets overlooked or ignored, because of this childish bickering.
It gets to a point where myself and others might just as well be talking to a brick wall.
Two of the last three posts I have submitted, might just as well of been stuck on our garden fence with stick tape.
A lot of people have stopped posting on here, there are names I have not seen for years, they were fun people that posted valuable views about our club, it was a fun thing to be part of, It really does make me wonder why they stopped posting on here, maybe it is all becoming a little clearer.
Wake up and smell the coffee, the club and football side of this site will be lost amongst all this drivel.

That’s just it Bob, you have said nothing wrong, your opinions are yours.
I happen to think a 10 minute sin bin should be introduced into football, instead of cards, that way it affects that game at that moment in time.
Am I wrong for thinking that, “No of course not, it is only my opinion”.
Give your opinion and leave it, you don’t have to justify it, I think sometimes a view needs to be clarified, and that’s it.
If someone gets personal that is a different ball game, time for them to shut the uck up and go away.
Although you are not guilty, some of your squabbles have become a tad close to personal.
Please understand I am not holier-than-thou, given the circumstance I can and do bite.

Not confident about Saturday - Wolves pace will be a problem - to counter that I think Thor has to play, although not the quickest he is faster and more mobile that Jedi or wheelan.
Jack has to play to give their defence something to think about.
hope I am wrong on my gut feeling which is a draw.

Be positive mate, on our day we can beat anyone, Snodgrass, Adomah, Hogan, Grealish are all match winners and unlike last time we played them were going into this game on some form.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Mar 2018 19:40:28
Believe it or not we have a very good record against Wolves.
Since 1978 we have played them 27 times winning 16 times and only losing 4 the rest were draws of course, so the stats are on our side at least.
The problem is we have a habit of falling short when we have a game like this, and no matter how positive I get it never seems to affect our displays or results.
I would love nothing more than to turn Wolves over big time, but as morty said they have great pace and with some of our old legs and pipe smokers we could be found wanting.
Nevertheless I am still confident and would expect nothing less than a draw, if we all turn up and play as we can we might just nick it.
If we sit back and try to cancel them out I fear the worst, it’s a game that will be far more intense than the Blues game with a lot more at stake.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2018 08:12:37
If it was me I would mirror there playing formation,
Either a 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 like wolves play,
Midfield and wide players could prove our success in the game,
There wide players are pitotal to how they play with Douglas looking a very good player with top delivery
We can win this game that's no doubt but how we set up is the question,
Anyway I will go for a 1-0 win.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2018 09:53:51
You like Douglas don’t you mate? 😂 don’t think it would be sensible to go for such a drastic change for such a big game when we haven’t used it all season, I think the 3 at the back lasted 10 minutes against someone earlier in the season, we haven’t really got anyone who can get up an down the left side the way we would need and we haven’t got the pace at the back for it, would be suicide against Wolves. Stick to what we know, only thing we should look at changing is one up top, Hogan for all his running won’t cope against 3 centre halves, we saw that against Sheffield United away, get Grabban up with him or push grealish further up, get at them, get Snodgrass on set pieces and ask them questions. We’ve got more than enough quality to beat them, just about who turns up on the day. But with that said should we lose, it’s the same as any other game, 3 points, nothing more just because who they are, if we win lose or draw its straight onto the next game.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2018 10:19:22
Chris that is my opinion !
Why can't you accept other fans have different views on there team,
If you look at the first few words I said on my post it was
""If it was me""
Which says what it means in my opinion this is how I would go,
All I want is a win nothing else will do for me,
They ripped us apart early in season and I don't want that to happen again tomorrow

It’s right there, have you got memory loss or so do two people run your account or something? You stated your opinion, I stated mine then you started winging saying I can’t accept when other people have other views, as I’ve just quoted, yet I nor did anyone else question or slate your opinion, now your saying “where’s the problem with you”, I don’t understand how you can write something and put thought into it, saying I can’t accept other fans having a different opinion and then in the next comment talk as though you haven’t said anything? You baffle me mate, it’s like you didn’t read what I wrote, presumed I’d slate your opinion so immediately replied having an emotional moment then read what I wrote realised I simply gave my opinion and now are trying to act as though your original comment doesn't exist.

Playing Sunderland tonight brought back, the one time I went there to see the Villa . Picked up on the Coventry rd 8-30, the first stop we had driver came up with the idea of going across country, to give us moe drinking time . We got lost, dropped us off in the Sunderland end, with 10 mins to go . Obviosly we got chased out, after 5mins of starting back home we had nearly all the coach Windows put in . The police kindly gave us, lots of cardboard and stiky tape . They also recomended a safe social club to have a drink . On the way home we where frozen, then the driver got compleatly lost again . Dropped us off at 9-30,25 hours after we left . To make things worse the driver won the bingo at the club . Happy days . Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

Comfortable against possibly the worst championship side in a long while doesn't cut it with me. Too sloppy gave the ball away far to easily. Better teams will punish us, not good enough. I hope if we don't make second spot Fulham do, if we play them in the play offs and perform the we have played the last few games I don't hold out much hope. Until Jack came on there was very little creativity. Whelan Jedinak and Hourihane are not creative enough to take us onwards and upwards.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Mar 2018 10:58:54
Team is go for tonight is the usual keeper and centre halves, Taylor Left, Elmo right. If jack is only fit enough for the bench then I'd go with Adomah left, Hourihane and Bjarnson centre and Grabban on the right. Snodgrass in the number 10 and hogan up top. Don't think we need a battler like Jedinak in the midfield, just need someone to keep ticking the ball over getting us moving forward.

Revolving door at the Bluenoses managers office is spinning again. Cotterill gone so that'll be 5 managers in 16 months. Although it's tight at the bottom of the league, I can't see them beating Boro on Tuesday, so they'll be in deeper sh1t. I can't really see the point in changing managers with 11 games to go assuming somebody wants it (who want's relegation on their CV? ) Same goes for WBA, but in their case they just need to be preparing for the Championship in which case Pardew is probably a safe pair of hands.

On that note Menace, it was only 6 months ago I remember reading that the wise old man of football, the one and only Mr Harry Rednapp, quoted on his departure from St Andrews, 'When Birmingham City get everybody fit they’ll finish above Aston Villa this year for sure”.

Bit harsh Chris, he's got no defence in front who give a feck, i think he's carrying an injury and each week there's talk of more managerial (or over there, venerial) movement, the owners are clueless (long may it continue obviously), and remember when johnstone goes back in the summer, we'll need at least 2 keepers which ever division we're in, even though he plays for the knuckle-draggers, i still reckon he's worth a shout?

Looks like derby are having there usual wobble come end of season,
Fulham are really on fire now and are a serious side for 2nd place,
If the worse comes to it I would rather they got 2nd place over Cardiff,
But it's in our hands now to keep on winning and keep up the pressure on Fulham and Cardiff,
I really hope so,
Play offs are a lottery and it's up for grabs for any of the 4 teams in it,
But we want 2nd place and I'm preying we get it.

Really the way things stand Fulham have got to put pressure on us not the other way round mate, still above them and a game in hand against QPR, win that and a nice 4 point cushion. Their due a blip and looking at the highlights derby were very poor at the back but eventually unlucky not to grab a draw. Barnsley winning against Cardiff on Tuesday would be perfect for us, puts blues 5 from safety and if we win we are 1 off second. Still loads of points to b played for, get everyone fit and another 7 game winning run wouldn’t go amiss. If the worst was to happen and we end up in the play offs I think we could beat Bristol City, Cardiff, Derby or Middlesbrough over 2 legs, only team I’d worry about was Fulham but we normally beat them at home, just their team on a huge pitch at Wembley lots of space would be lethal.

You say Fulham are due a blip,
Which I can understand but villa also have being on a great run also and they could say the same about us and we are due a blip also!
There is plenty of twists yet in this race for 2nd place,
As I said I would rather have Cardiff in play offs than Fulham
But I hope it does not come to that,
I want that 2nd spot and it's going down to the wire.

Barnsley winning at Cardiff would be great but I don't care about putting the bluenoses into further trouble it's about our situation which concerns me,

Would you not class losing to Fulham and drawing at home to Preston as a blip? We’ve had a little wobble, it’s unrealistic to win 9/ 10 games in a row so we managed seven, injuries caught up, had a little wobble, now players are coming back and we should be back on it. Sunderland, Wolves, QPR and Bolton all before the international break, 9 or 10 points will be decent and should keep us in 3rd possibly second, following that fixtures against hull, reading and Norwich should put us in a strong position hopefully second going into the final run of fixtures against some of the big teams.

And would you also not consider our form in December a blip.

Chris you make it seem quite easy for us,
Losing to Fulham who are on a roll and dropping 2 points against Preston is not what I call a blip,
Think we have got 25 points from last 30 if I'm not mistaken,
I may be wrong on that of not,
That is very good form for me,
If we lose 2-3 games in next 4 games that is a blip for me,
Derby are going through a blip now of mainly drawing or losing,
I hope your valuation of them games coming up do come true but I'm not counting chickens yet,
There will be ups and downs that's for sure.

Not easy, just being optimistic. Dropping 4 points after winning 7 in a row is a blip. Look at the whole season, we have had 3 blips, the start of the season then we went on a brilliant run, December then we went on another brilliant run and now hopefully we can do the same.

Agree, I think losing to Fulham and the draw against Preston was not really a blip, I think its more of a pointer to form.
Neither result surprised to be honest.
If we had lost both and then got tonked at Sheffield we would probably be classed as having a blip.

My lad was just showing me a post off an Austrailin fan . Supported Villa for years, since he saw Davld Platt score a Hattrick . Full of excitement, today his first game at Villa park . Now how unlucky is that.

He should get on Twitter, Tony, Keith, the club or one of the players would most probably hear about it and fund him to stay until Tuesday and then take him up to Sunderland to the lads play.

With the cancellation today, Burton the other week will probably be the last 3pm Saturday fixture at villa park this season. Leeds has been moved for tele and no doubt if things stay the same Derby will be moved for tele aswell. Positive is we've now got longer to get Jack back fit and give other players who have been injured like Adomah a little longer.

It's only sensible to cancel with this snow,
Seeing the amount of cars stranded and with bus and trains at a standstill most of day it only makes sense to cancel the game,
Only trouble is match conjestion piling up of games which could hinder us.

I was abroad yesterday morning and kept in touch with all the weather news what with landing back at Birmingham Airport at 16.30, couldn't believe messages that match was still on and would have been really furious if not postponed! Noses often quote how many villans live outside of Brum and what with public transport and Worcestershire especially bad the right decision. If it had gone ahead it could have been for some like the madness of the stereophonic snog postponing their gig. It also give injured players a bit more time?! UTV.
