Assuming the rumour is correct, should we sell Kodjia to Angers and for what price or do we keep him as Tammy will almost certainly not be with us next season?

Theoldvillan

1.) 21 Jan 2019 15:46:10
Yes oldvillan I think we should sell him, Kodjia does have his moments, and can at times change a game, problem is he is not a team player.
I think he is a bit erratic at times and would be a much better player if he looked up occasionally to see where he is going, and spot his team mates movements.
Sell and invest in a quality attacking midfielder, reason being we are very ordinary when Jack is out.

2.) 21 Jan 2019 17:02:24
I'd agree with the post from Villadave. Kodjia can look like a world beater at times, the trouble is that those times are far too rare. His ability to conjure something out of nothing is far outweighed by his lack of composure, the way he often delays a pass or a move breaks down because of him not being in sync with others. To be fair he has been played out of position this season though. He's still got a decent record, decent market value and certainly wish him well after helping us out, but time to move on and get a bit more value for money. easier said than done I know in January though. Same could be said of Bolasie too. must be well over £100k a week between them so let's free up some space in our squad, develop Green and get maybe another in to make a bit more of a consistent contribution.

3.) 22 Jan 2019 10:36:33
The problem now is if we do sell him we will have less than a week to replace him and could end up not bringing anyone in due the lack of time left.
With Bolasie now gone back to Everton it looks like Green will be expected to fill the gap. Maybe by shifting 70k a week off our payroll will release some money for investment. We need it!
We have got ourselves into a proper mess over the past 4 - 5 weeks, probably since the Albion game to be honest. Before that game we were looking forward to a transfer window that would enable us to push for promotion. Since then however we have conceded an average 2+ goals a game at home (not even counting the 5 we conceded to Forest! ), not won at home since we beat blues (2 months ago! ) .
We are now looking at teams below us (not above us) and the transfer window is becoming one of short term fix (again! ) to get us to the end of the season.
I'm not blaming the current management team but after the initial 'honeymoon' period we have been woeful. Grealish's absence has been a factor, probably more than anyone would have thought. Add to that Tuanzebe's injury, which has also been a factor.
Best we can hope for this season is upper mid-table.
We need some rabbits pulled out of hats over the next week or so that's for sure.

According to other sites Charlie Colkutt signing imminent.

Theoldvillan

1.) 20 Jan 2019 15:42:17
Why do we want him he can't even get in Shrewsbury team.

2.) 20 Jan 2019 18:43:35
Don't ask me.
I want a miserable centre half who hates everybody, including his team mates.
Someone they have to keep locked up and starving until kick off.

08 Jan 2019 21:25:04
Just seen a report that we are looking at Adam Reach from the Owls and talking 10m.
Anyone else know about this?

Theoldvillan

1.) 09 Jan 2019 05:38:44
Yes I've seen a few reports of this. Be an interesting one to follow.

2.) 12 Jan 2019 16:50:31
Take more than signing him to stop us sliding down the league.

02 Jan 2019 14:01:44
Wolves in with £18 for Abrahams as they want a permanent deal.

Theoldvillan

1.) 02 Jan 2019 15:43:23
Reports now coming out - Chelsea have no interest of selling Tammy.

01 Dec 2018 22:49:01
I can't help but ask "why did Bruce fail to get these players to perform? "
Most of the players were bought to the club while he was manager but nearly all failed to respond. Our style has changed from defending at all costs to attack and attack.
I love watching after the way the team performed early in the season.
Well done Dean Smith.
You have woken a sleeping giant.
Thank you sir.
The oldvillan.

Theoldvillan

1.) 02 Dec 2018 09:16:57
Did not work for Bruce because he is a manager who's first thought is to defend and hope to a chance to win.
Smith just goes for it home and away,
Very simply really bruce is a dinosaur.

2.) 02 Dec 2018 14:54:10
I think for a start playing Tuanzebe at CB, which is where he played pre-season.
Bolasie has only recently got himself fit.
And playing attacking football with an attacking team.

3.) 02 Dec 2018 19:05:29
Oldvillan, surely the answer to that is very simple, most on here have spoken about players being played out of position, and only having one system. "negativity"
Can`t we forget about the bloke, he gave us a degree of stability, and now he has gone.

4.) 03 Dec 2018 14:59:30
Dave none of us should forget, owners need to understand that there is no place in modern football for the likes of Bruce, mad mick, puliss, Hughes, Big Sam, moyes, keeping on reminding fans of these guys failings may just save other clubs from the dross that these so called experienced managers dish up. Good news is message is getting through not many of the aforementioned are currently employed in league football.

5.) 03 Dec 2018 15:08:27
Good we need more managers like southgate, deano, howe, h8 too say wolves manager, klopp, n poch.

6.) 03 Dec 2018 16:29:50
I agree with your theory scotcaffu, the fact is it won't be me reminding them about out of touch managers,
Other clubs can have that type of manager with pleasure if they want.
Bruce has gone, and I could not be more pleased.

7.) 08 Dec 2018 09:49:12
I was trying to consider how Bruce would have set up for games away to boro and WBA. It makes it clear why he failed. I predict this could be close to his selection.
Nyland
Rb tuanzebe
Cb Chester
Cb Jedi / bree
Lb Hutton
Rm Elmo
Cdm Whelen
Cm hourihane
Lm kodja
Am Grealish
St Abraham

Subs bolasie, hogan, bla bla bla

So little creativity. Compare that to smiths selwction. Admittedly he has less injuries to contend with and bolasie was always going to take time. But I also believe smith would not have loaned out elphick or green. All if’s, but’s and maybe’s but it’s fairly easy so see why Bruce failed.

How come JT is giving advice to the England rugby team on motivation?
Should he be doing this alongside his current employer?
Now let's see. His current employer is, oh yes ASTON VILLA FC.
Come on JT start motivating the players that you should be motivating, earn your money, or are you here for the ride?
I have asked this question several times and I am thinking that JT is not earning his pay packet.

Theoldvillan

1.) 20 Feb 2019 11:21:10
Do you really think that these people have no ‘spare time’?
Or that their whole existence 24/ 7 is dedicated to Aston Villa?
Are you honestly suggesting that you think he isn’t doing, or trying to do this at vp?

2.) 20 Feb 2019 12:28:43
He might be "doing or trying" but not very successfully.

3.) 20 Feb 2019 14:22:37
Flackie
I am making the point that if he is motivating the English rugby team he is not doing a very good job at VP.
The evidence is on the pitch.
The team show very little motivation.
Last season I believe the team were motivated by him being on the team sheet.
Do you think that he is being limited from elsewhere regarding his actions from the bench?

18 Feb 2019 19:22:49
I think that our current situation reflects the last 10 years. Overnight we have not become what we now see everywhere at our AVFC.
A rolling road of managers, a flow of expensive second rate players and very poor accountability.
Simple analysis indicates that we have developed a Don Quixote attitude that all will come right while we try to buy to get us promoted.
Some years 4,5 or 6, players were bought to get us promoted and some on here pointed out that we not only needed to get promoted but we had to stay promoted and players for the future had to come in to the club.
Unfortunately we have bought for the present, players whose stats looked good within the team they played for only for them to arrive and discover that stats mean sweet F. all when the opposition wanted claret on their boots.
Some times we look like the best, then we look like eleven blokes who have never met each other before. Complete strangers with no plan.
Are we dead in the water?
Not yet, but time is running out.
Out talisman is needed on the pitch but when?
Many on here will be aware that my call is we need the leader on the pitch, yes, the arse kicker.
Mings is probably the nearest, he is happy to be in the middle. Then we need TZ to make the back hard.
Of the current squad who should we keep? McGinn and look to dump any we get an offer for from anywhere. We will not get Tammy back, he will get offers from many who are waiting for him. Might manage to get TZ depending on MU.
overall we have a championship side that are happy to be just that.
Deano has to up his game by an enormous level and the owners must find a way past FFP.
The need for a total clear out is upon us and the next 3 games are vital. If we don't win all of them we will be still in the champs next season and Deano will get a last chance to produce the goods.

Theoldvillan

1.) 20 Feb 2019 10:27:39
we will still be in the championship even if we win the next 3 games stop dreaming and be realistic our stats/ points per game are worse than when Bruce was here and they were poor then.

16 Feb 2019 18:37:55
I have to be honest as I am a realist and our situation is very real.
After today we should look for a bookmaker to give us reasonable odds on AVFC making the playoffs.

Perhaps at the end of the season I might collect some money when we succeed in defying the odds and get to the playoffs.
Time for nursey to bring my medication for sure.
Yes I know its a forlorn hope but we can still get enough points and until it is mathematically impossible I will remain hopeful.

Theoldvillan

{Ed033's Note - Lord Flashheart might be a better bet than nursey. :)

1.) 16 Feb 2019 18:56:18
I have to agree oldvillan, we do still have a slim chance.

15 Feb 2019 21:36:25
Many on here seem to look through lists of players that are available.

Can anyone identify a miserable hard bas. d that is out of contract?
We certainly need something to shore up the weakest defence that has ever worn our colours. it looks like TZ is out for a considerable time which leaves us with Chester and Elphick, oh lord save us, and Mings.
Perhaps we should go 3 at the back with 2 more as wingbacks as required.
Midfield all had divers boots on in the week and even Tammy had his boots tied together.
Easily the poorest performance for some time but it seems that Deano is not prepared to lay down the law.
However its not all over, the fat lady is still singing.
Perhaps she could get a game?

Theoldvillan

1.) 15 Feb 2019 23:47:12
TOV, couple of things, like your humour, if you can't smile there is something wrong with you. Your observations on Wednesday are spot on. Can't we ask the league for dispensation to play 5 at the back three defensive holding midfield playes and gung ho up front. We might just about then to keep the goals against column under a number between 2 and 5.

2.) 16 Feb 2019 09:48:33
Kaboul, Evra and Chico all free agent's.
Oh and Chris Samba.

13 Feb 2019 09:39:32
Lets get it right.
Tonight we must win, no excuses.
WE have to stay within 4 points of the playoff spots.
Brentford, like the rest of the league, know they only need to push the ball forward quickly and they will get a scoring opportunity. Our defence (joke) is an open door that my old Mom would walk through.
Players must give everything, no players waiting for the ball or watching the game they must get involved, own the ball.
Jack is still away, TZ also away, so who will fill their boots.
I still want JT to step up to the mark and can't understand why he sits there like a schoolboy.
If its Deano holding him back then Deano must change.
Come on Villa, make me proud!

Theoldvillan

1.) 13 Feb 2019 12:58:51
Erm, excuse me. If Derby beat Ipswich away, then regardless of how Villa do against Brentford, the gap will be at least six points to the play offs. Write this season off and treat the rest of the games as pre season for next year. Identify your incoming transfer targets and clear out the dead wood. The doctor gambled and lost and left you in this mess. You need to re-structure. If you don’t get it right it could get worse before it gets better.

2.) 13 Feb 2019 13:54:33
6pts at this point in the season is nothing.
14 games left after tonight - you start to see teams dropping points. look at the top 10 last season.
Barring Wolves each team still had a chance of going up (or into playoff's) and this was with less than 3games left.
6 teams could if finished in playoff positions at the 39gam point.

Play to win mentality should be consistent and if it isn't the people inc. DS/ JT will be gone.

3.) 13 Feb 2019 18:48:52
When Blades beat Boro (51pts) and as I said we must win, the gap is 4pts.
My maths ain't what it used to be but 51 - 47 = 4.
Yes teams have games in hand but we are not out of the race.

One might question his brains, even in jest.
Birmingham or Milan.
Mmm some decision to make.
A wet day, no sunshine for 2 months and a lot of Villa fans bemoaning our luck.
No decision.
Great culture, amazing architecture, high fashion, exciting food.
Only one choice
The great city of Birmingham wins hands down.
Who needs sunshine?
What could be better than the canals?
More hills than Rome?
More green space than any major European city.
The greatest curry houses outside Asia.
Yes Birmingham just scrapes it!

Who wants alternative to a Friday night curry?
How can anyone ignore the library, when its open?

All of them.
We need any players that can stand up.
Our owner has dropped us deep in the veritable.
How the mighty are falling due to the incompetence of our management.
Even I have sorted out my boots, haven't been seen for 60 years, but if I'm needed I am ready.
Dodgy knees, stiff ankles and little balance.
I'll even pay for the privalege.

I posted that we had the squad that was well able to get promoted several weeks ago when many were wailing at the gates of despare.
All it will take is a change of approach by our manager.
You can get a good price at the bookies.

Because of the situation we have to look at options and a rename of Villa Park would be acceptable.
Should it happen then I would want to see it still named "***********Villa Park. "
However beggars can't be choosers and what a sponsor wanuts.

Davis can't do what Tammy does, not in a million years.
Maupay is the alternative.
Mings is a must keep. Understand we have first refusal at an agreed price.
TZ also a must keep if poss.
Chester needs to pick up his game.
Keep on saying that we can score goals but can't stop em going in our net.
Weakness is definitely at the back where we need the leader.
It really isn't rocket science, just look at the For and Against figure.
When Jack is back we will still score goals but if the back line is as flimsy as it is we will still concede.
QED.

Not his job?
We see other number 2's getting involved.
He is a strong character and regardless of his position he could, should, would be involved.
He would not be changing tactics, he would be enforcing tactics.
I think that there is a certain friction on the bench and Deano perhaps didn't want JT but it was part of the deal.
Are we grooming JT?
Managers at AVFC hold a poison chalice and this is somewhat to do with supporters. Deano was top of the supporters list, but did the new owners want to pacify the crowd by appointing their man.
I don't go with the get rid group nor the pro group. Dean has got the job and the crowd go with the turf, so to speak.
He will rise or fall with the results but using JT could be more beneficial than letting him sit on the bench quietly.
However is JT's objective to use us as a stepping stone to his desire. There will be a vacancy very soon but is it time for JT to take that enormous leap of faith in his own undeniable target at Stamford Bridge, or would he do better with a lower starting point, AVFC.
