I think we need a reality check here regarding the up coming season. if you take away the dreadful start 10 points from 11 games and the poor February (combined we got 12 points from 16 games = .75 points per game) . and we got 62 points from 46 games.

take away the 16 games and 12 points from the 46 games and 62 points then we have 30 games got us 50 points = 1.7 points per game. now ad that average into the total season 16 x 1.7 = additional 27 points which would have given us 77 points and that would have put us 7th.

yes we have to improve on last year but we are not far off who knows how many additional points we would have picked up without these 2 periods of low confidence. yes we need to sort out quickly the keeper situation. assuming JT comes the defense is sorted.

we need cover for Jedinak. and a creative player on the left (Jack Grealish not consistent enough and runs into too many blind alleys. be optimistic not pessimistic we are in a much better place than 12 months ago.

I agree mate we was great at home and to be honest it was nice to win at home again that hasn't happend for about 10 years so welldone Bruce. But we need to win away and this is where Strve Bruces tactics let us down he plays the same way as at home where away i belive we should be more counter attack. Iam looking forward to this season but it will be a lot harder than last year. Fulham Reading Leeds not to mention boro an sunderland are all going to be going for automatic this what i said many times Brighton and Newcastle hardly lost a game we have to be like that and that means wining every week no excuses. Great post mate.

Sunday I think will be tighter than people think due to the fact that we cannot score without Kodjia, but predict Birmingham will not finish with 11 men and Villa to scrape a result 1-0.

looking forward to summer deadwood sale - Bunn, Kozac, Richards, Flabby Gabby, Gardner, Tisbola, Sanchez, McKormac, Vertout, Gil. Amavi. should raise £15 million. who should SB get in? assuming he keeps the rest of the squad including the kids, i think we need a centre half, left back, back up defensive midfielder, Keeper, wide right / winger.

Apart from gardner every one else on that list is spot on. let's get rid of the lot of them. also agree with what we need coming in. for far to long we have held on to players who don't deserve to wear the shirt.

2.) 20 Apr 2017 22:43:07
You got some figures behind that mate? We signed Veretout for 12 million, and he's had a stormer of a season in the French league, shouldn't be making a loss on him.

Gil in today's market is about 10 mil surely, what with having a decent season for deportivo. Sell 12 players and bring in 5, leaves us ridiculously short when injuries come (look at the injury list from January / Christmas) and then a transfer window like that leaves the team not knowing where they stand with wholesale changes not what we need again. 3 or 4 will do fine, quality additions who Bruce wants early in the window so a full preseason, sell a few who won't be involved at all as Bruce sees fit.

Next season is one of the biggest in the clubs history in my eyes, last season we can flex our muscles in the transfer windows before FFP really starts to play a role in our dealings, should we fail to go up next year I can't see it happening for another 4-5 seasons. We get one chance at it, we can't afford to feck it up in the summer at the first hurdle!

3.) 21 Apr 2017 13:18:40
Agree with what you said about next season chris, ffp and the need to put it all together in our push to go up. As you say we can, t afford to cock it up. Like yourself mate just want the best for our great club, I thought when we went down that it would take us three to four years to get back where we belong. Hoping of course that we would do it in two or three, Its such a tough league to get out of. Next season is so critical .

lets hope we now play round pegs on round holes - Chester and Tuanzebe mus be the CB partnership at lease until January. JT will take Axel under his wing. Bree must be RB and Cafu LB (I know that is a square peg in a round hole but the choice is hobsons) . Thor must play.
Hopefully - whelan, and Jedi are consigned to the bench or even lower. We need to be more dynamic that they can offer. O Hare has to get game time for more creativity, maybe from the bench.
out at Xmas/ Jan - whelan, Albert, Lansbury, Taylor, +any one of the keepers. + Richards.

A very sad day RIP Herbert Douglas Ellis. Mr Aston Villa.
I have a fond memory of Doug. I ran a junior football team, Doug came to the annual presentation along with the League Cup. He insisted that everyone that wanted to would be photographed with the cup and or with him. He was a real Villa Fan and gentleman. RIP.

I am confused. Tuanzebe was in my opinion the best player in the team against Reading. Centre backs have always operated as a partnership - Southgate and Ugo, Bould and Adams, Bruce and Pallister. Bruce should surely be aware of this but continues to play Jedi out of position and drops the potentially best centre half at the club. Play players in their proper position and don't keep changing the centre halves. ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE.

1.) 20 Sep 2018 12:40:57
I was confussed but when you playing against a centre forward around 6ft 3 + you needed a player with hight and that's why he went with Jedi instead of Axel. It worked but against more mobile forwards then Axel every time if bruce knows what he's doing. Which I don't think he does most ofthe time.

2.) 20 Sep 2018 18:46:58
Skinny, I agree with mort on this one.
Jedders is 3mm taller than Tuanzebem, which in the grand scheme of things is called a Gnats Knacker.
Would make no difference mate.

will be interesting to see what team takes on Wigan, my choice would be
Nyland
Hutton Chester Tanuzebe
Thor
Uncle Albert, McGinn, Hourihane, Green.
Jack
Kodja.

Bench
Steer
Elmo
Elphick
Whelan
Bree
Rushian.

1.) 10 Aug 2018 13:26:00
I think this will be the team.

Nyland

Hutton, Chester, Elphick, Tanuzebe

Hourihane, McGinn

Adomah, Grealish, Green

Kodjia.

2.) 10 Aug 2018 14:10:28
Bruce"s team in my opinion.

Nyland
Hutton
Chester.
Elfick
Taylor

Whelan

Almo
Mcginn
Adomah
Grealish

Kodia.

3.) 10 Aug 2018 15:27:33
I think he'll keep the same lineup except for Nyland in for Steer. Don't see him dropping Hourihane for Mcginn after 2 days training.

08 Aug 2018 09:34:42
even if Jack does not go we need to sign McGinn for more cover and creativity. Tommy Abrahams - yes please, will give Kodja a kick up the arse.

Bruce will have to re assess the squad when he knows what squad he has to work with. 3 at the back could work especially with someone like Huth in the centre but we would need to find someone with pace like Walker as cover CB. (Tanuzebe? )
Up front we need to keep Kodja if fit will always cause defences problems. asuming Jack goes (and who could blame him) then we need to blood Ohare, RHM etc. I think Thor if he stays will be influencial next season.
Get rid of DeLaet, Almo, McGatestuck, Hogan, Richards if possible, Taylor, Whelan, Tshbola - could raise £10-12 mill?

To me Grealish is good on the ball but lacks an end product and work rate. Snoddy works his socks off and his delivery into the box gives the forwards a chance - how many times have we seen Jack the lad run into blind alleys? too many, that means the pace of the game slows down and we lose possession. Grealish would also be behind Green for me.

always look better with thor in the side - he does the dirty work for the team and is more mobile and forward thinking than Jedi and whelan.
