I think we need a reality check here regarding the up coming season. if you take away the dreadful start 10 points from 11 games and the poor February (combined we got 12 points from 16 games = .75 points per game) . and we got 62 points from 46 games.

take away the 16 games and 12 points from the 46 games and 62 points then we have 30 games got us 50 points = 1.7 points per game. now ad that average into the total season 16 x 1.7 = additional 27 points which would have given us 77 points and that would have put us 7th.

yes we have to improve on last year but we are not far off who knows how many additional points we would have picked up without these 2 periods of low confidence. yes we need to sort out quickly the keeper situation. assuming JT comes the defense is sorted.

we need cover for Jedinak. and a creative player on the left (Jack Grealish not consistent enough and runs into too many blind alleys. be optimistic not pessimistic we are in a much better place than 12 months ago.

I agree mate we was great at home and to be honest it was nice to win at home again that hasn't happend for about 10 years so welldone Bruce. But we need to win away and this is where Strve Bruces tactics let us down he plays the same way as at home where away i belive we should be more counter attack. Iam looking forward to this season but it will be a lot harder than last year. Fulham Reading Leeds not to mention boro an sunderland are all going to be going for automatic this what i said many times Brighton and Newcastle hardly lost a game we have to be like that and that means wining every week no excuses. Great post mate.

Sunday I think will be tighter than people think due to the fact that we cannot score without Kodjia, but predict Birmingham will not finish with 11 men and Villa to scrape a result 1-0.

looking forward to summer deadwood sale - Bunn, Kozac, Richards, Flabby Gabby, Gardner, Tisbola, Sanchez, McKormac, Vertout, Gil. Amavi. should raise £15 million. who should SB get in? assuming he keeps the rest of the squad including the kids, i think we need a centre half, left back, back up defensive midfielder, Keeper, wide right / winger.

Apart from gardner every one else on that list is spot on. let's get rid of the lot of them. also agree with what we need coming in. for far to long we have held on to players who don't deserve to wear the shirt.

2.) 20 Apr 2017 22:43:07
You got some figures behind that mate? We signed Veretout for 12 million, and he's had a stormer of a season in the French league, shouldn't be making a loss on him.

Gil in today's market is about 10 mil surely, what with having a decent season for deportivo. Sell 12 players and bring in 5, leaves us ridiculously short when injuries come (look at the injury list from January / Christmas) and then a transfer window like that leaves the team not knowing where they stand with wholesale changes not what we need again. 3 or 4 will do fine, quality additions who Bruce wants early in the window so a full preseason, sell a few who won't be involved at all as Bruce sees fit.

Next season is one of the biggest in the clubs history in my eyes, last season we can flex our muscles in the transfer windows before FFP really starts to play a role in our dealings, should we fail to go up next year I can't see it happening for another 4-5 seasons. We get one chance at it, we can't afford to feck it up in the summer at the first hurdle!

3.) 21 Apr 2017 13:18:40
Agree with what you said about next season chris, ffp and the need to put it all together in our push to go up. As you say we can, t afford to cock it up. Like yourself mate just want the best for our great club, I thought when we went down that it would take us three to four years to get back where we belong. Hoping of course that we would do it in two or three, Its such a tough league to get out of. Next season is so critical .

on the question of JT still being withus if we get promoted - the answer is simple - he is effectively on loan from Chelsea as i am sure he will go back in some capacity at some time. and if you are on loan you are not allowed to play against your parent club so write into the contract that he will not be allowed to play against chelsea. What is the difference?

mort13

02 Feb 2018 14:37:16
if we go up we can off load some of the deadwood and get some cash in
the following will go i think
Terry - no cash
Hutton - no cash
Grabby - no cash
onomoha - no cash
Grabban - no cash
Tuanzebe - no cash
Jedi - no cash
Wheelan - no cash
Tshbola - £1 mil
Tommy Elphick - £3 mil
Ritchie De Laet - £1 mil
Ross McCormack - £4 mil
Gary Gardner - £1mil
Kevin Toner - £1 mil
Jordan Amavi - £6mil
Aaron Tshibola - £1 mil
Pierluigi Gollini -£1 mil
Carles Gil- £3 mil
thats £22 mil

we need to spend £5mil for Johnstone
£6mil for Snoddy
That leaves £11 mil
for a center half, a defensive mid fielder, a back up LB, a centre forward, looks like the Dr has to put his hand in is pocket again.

mort13

1.) 02 Feb 2018 15:15:16
Are we selling Tshibola twice then? :-)

2.) 02 Feb 2018 15:48:16
Amavi has already been sold mate and money received.
I think the doctor will back us a lot more than that, he’s put his money where his mouth is to get us out the championship, the stupid amount of money you get for going up is well documented but I think the doctor will also add to that and we’ll spend big, hope we don’t waste it on unproven players and take risks, get proven premier league players and get us safe then build from there.

3.) 02 Feb 2018 15:56:01
I think you will find Amavi has already been sold to Marseille mort.

4.) 02 Feb 2018 16:11:20
Amavi has been sold,
The Dr will spend 50 mill + to keep us up in prem.
He has put in big money in championship and he knows he has to spend a lot more,

5.) 02 Feb 2018 16:12:18
That's the way chris, consolidate then speculate.

02 Feb 2018 14:23:32
Just watched Snoddys goal again - it looks better each time. one thing to look at - during the celebrations after watch JT been there done it but the joy on his face is great - shows how much he cares - well done JT.

So Hogan says he is the best striker at the club. In the words of big Ron don't tell me - show me.

mort13

1.) 05 Jan 2018 09:27:52
I agree with your comment.
However he will never be able to prove himself if the ball isn't played to him.
Brentford played for him and he scored, we just use him to play the system that Bruce wants to play.
Stated before, why buy black shoes when you wanted brown?
We have bought some of the No1 champioship players in their positions only to put them into a different style.
This happens in other teams so AVFC are not alone.
What we need is for the manager to be able and willing to change the system at sometime during the match.
Does our manager do this?
UK?

reasonably happy with where we are and how we are progressing. Just a little concerned at how O Hare is being treated The lad is full of energy, creativity and has a goal threat, and would be good to help Davis, but he cannot get any game time. Onomoha gets the game time but has looked tired lately. For me it is time to give him a rest and put in O'Hare with Lansbury instead of Hurihane as he looks shattered as well.
team for me Saturday
Johnstone
Hutton
Chester
Samba
Taylor
Wheelen
uncle Albert
Snoddy
Lansbury
O Hare
Davis

Bench
Grealish
Hurihane
Elohamody
Bunn
Onomoha
DeLeat
Suliman.

1.) 06 Dec 2017 16:48:29
Don’t think you can bench Onomah and not plays grealish there after Leeds, would be a very strange decision. I think the team should stay largely the same, definitely keeper and back 4. After that the two in the middle is tricky because although he hasn’t done as much going forward Hourihane has been reading the game brilliantly lately, getting backward aswell as forward, Whelan at the minute is our only defensive midfielder option with Jedinak injured, and Lansbury was immense when he came on against Leeds and given license to get forward he can win games on his own. So really has to be Whelan and one of the other two, the widemen pick themselves really and Davis is the only option up top. That only leaves the number 10, is go for Grealish, he was a breath of fresh air against Leeds, I’d forgotten how good technically he was. Onomah needs dropping he was awful against Leeds. O’hare Should definitely be making the bench, his energy in the last 30 can change a game.

2.) 06 Dec 2017 22:12:40
Agree chris. I think grealish in for onomah. definitely put ohare on the bench for thor. What more has ohare got to do to get game time? He nets for fun in the u23s and we are crying out for attacking players atm. Watch Bruce put agbonlahor on the bench as he's had a weeks training under his belt!

3.) 07 Dec 2017 07:35:26
To be fair, I don’t like him but I’d have abonglahor on the bench because at the moment we don’t have a striker to swap Davis with, so whether he’s playing good or bad (Leeds) he has to stay on, also without a striker on the bench we can’t really change the system, the way we start games the 451 is easily swapped to a 442 if you’ve got a second striker. My bench would be
Steer
Elmo
Elphic
Lansbury/ Hourihane (whoever isn’t starting)
Onomah/ Grealish (whoever isn’t starting)
O’hare
Gabby (swap him with Kodjia or hogan when one of them is fit)

4.) 08 Dec 2017 08:36:19
I think anomah should be dropped and grealish in his place,
I agree with Chris about o'hare he should be more involved but Bruce seems to leave him out the squad altogether which I think is wrong,
Gabby who I am not a fan at all would have to come on the bench only because we have not a forward to come on for Davis,
Leave the team as it is at moment except for that grealish in
For anomah.
As for the game against millwall we should win but again another banana skin game which we foul up many times,
1-0 for me to villa.
But would not suppriss if it was a bore draw.
Come on you lions!

To me Grealish is good on the ball but lacks an end product and work rate. Snoddy works his socks off and his delivery into the box gives the forwards a chance - how many times have we seen Jack the lad run into blind alleys? too many, that means the pace of the game slows down and we lose possession. Grealish would also be behind Green for me.

John Terry yes please - what do we get - the best defender there has been in the premiership, with a previous season where he had a rest and was fully able to recover from injury and niggles, a born leader who hates loosing, the best defense organiser in the premiership player who contributes with goals from central defense. A player who has won everything (except the Championship) .

A player who although will not play every game can come off the bench when he is not in the starting 11 to manage the game to a conclusion and hopefully prevent games that we were leading in becoming draws. A defensive coach for Baker and Chester and the up and coming kids, and hope he will change the club mentality to a winning mentality. If he does that worth every penny.

Would prefer Hogan to Rhodes - he has more pace ( which we are short of), and is selfless in running the channels and is 2 footed, but would not so no to Rhodes if Hogan falls through.

the squad will be too old for the premiership and as huttons contract is up in the summer i can understand the decision. he would probably get a longer contract elsewhere as we would possibly only offer 12 months. we need to ship out wheelan, jedi, grabby, richards, Samba, Hutton will go, as will Terry, as he will not play against Chelsea + Elphick. so that is 8 players less than now - hopefully some of the kids will step up let's say 3 so we need 5 more to stand still in terms of numbers. critically we will be very short of centre halves. we also would need to retain Johnstone, & Snoddy. I think Taylor will be OK if he wins his place back as he is reliable so the team could look like

Johnstone
Bree
Chester
?
Taylor
Thor
Snoddy
Grealish
adomah/ green
Kodjia
?
squad
almo
O hare
RHM
Hogan
new CH
New creative midfield player
new keeper
new forward

the following loans will go i think
onomoha
Grabban
Tuanzebe
Tommy Elphick
Ritchie De Laet
Ross McCormack
Gary Gardner
Kevin Toner
Jordan Amavi
Aaron Tshibola
Pierluigi Gollini
Carles Gil

so there is a lot of work for the club to do for next year even if we do not go up alexa and wyness look as thought they will have their work cut out.
