Interesting/exciting link I've seen doing the rounds, Mauro Icardi of PSG. Was a beast in Serie A, not gone so great at PSG in the past few years but look at what strikers are ahead of him? Maybe with PSG looking at Carney a deal could be done, maybe a loan with option to buy, class is permanent, form is temporary

Wherw you hear this Ally? Definitely knows where the net is!

2.) 17 Jul 2022 23:33:40
The usual News Now place… thinking about it, he might of been at Inter the same time as Coutihno, he would definitely be a marquee signing, and like a lot of players on the fringes of stuff, wants to be at the World Cup, that’s why I suggested loan with an option to buy, you can guarantee a lot of players are going to be busting a gut to get on the plane to Qatar, but might also be pants after ??‍♂️

I wouldn’t get too excited about this one. It seems to stem from comments made by Midlands journo-for-hire Josh Holland saying we should buy him as he is on PSG’s transfer list since they’ve now signed Ekitike. As a result, thisisfutbol.com have published an article headed ‘Aston Villa: Journalist highlights player who is available this summer’. So it’s essentially journalists reporting on their own musings.

4.) 18 Jul 2022 20:21:28
Good player though, type we should be looking at

Gonna throw a name out there for defensive mid, Julian Weigl of Benfica, he's not happy there and could be available around £20M, German international, 25, neat and tidy player

Just read on Caught Offside what confirms what I was told on Monday that they've taken the merch/ kits to do with Jack down from the club shop, has anyone here been down there and seen this 1st hand?

As you walk into the store there’s three mannequins with shirts on, one in the middle Grealish number 10. I don’t know how it can be missed😂.

2.) 31 Jul 2021 09:12:41
Allyp I have been to the club shop this morning while I was out and the is nothing to do with Jack in the club shop at all. Can’t see any of his names shirts up and the mannequin that has his shirt now has Mings McGinn and Watkins shirts on.

3.) 31 Jul 2021 14:19:26
Must have been changed overnight.

This Julian Alvarez of River Plate who we're being linked with looks the business, shades of Coutihno about him

1.) 21 Jun 2021 17:13:36
Yeah seen the same report Ally, it sounds pretty genuine as well.
Only 21, and is very well thought of, let's wait and see.

2.) 21 Jun 2021 17:31:40
Agent Martinez on the case again? 🤔 while he's at it see if he can get their No10 interested, he looks OK from his YouTube highlights 😁.

3.) 21 Jun 2021 18:36:36
What the Messi ah surely not even Agent M could pull that one off 🤔.

4.) 21 Jun 2021 18:41:00
I think we should take a punt on the kid, last time we had a sniff of buying someone from River Plate was Falcao for £2M, but Heskey for £3M instead was a much better deal 🙄

5.) 21 Jun 2021 18:43:25

8.) 21 Jun 2021 20:36:36
They only slight downside is Alverez is another player favouring the right flank. Ideally, I would prefer someone for the other wing.

Despite El Ghazi’s goal return last season, I remain unconvinced. His contributions are too sporadic for a first team performer in a side aspiring to be a top third regular year in, year out.

9.) 22 Jun 2021 05:04:55
Alvarez is apparently very adept at playing centre forward as well, so could be a good replacement/ competition for Ollie, who used to be a winger himself.
And yes, very witty Moosey boy, as we’ve come to expect 😁.

10.) 22 Jun 2021 11:14:54
Transfermarkt lists his main position on the right, but the reports I’ve read suggest he prefers a more central role, a second striker type. Looks an excellent prospect and with a fair South American contingent at the club, I’m sure he’d settle. Let’s hope!

11.) 22 Jun 2021 19:44:44
Edd, what are the rules and regulations regarding foreign players in the Prem especially 3 from the same country?

{Ed002's Note - There are no specific rules - they need a Work Permit.}

12.) 22 Jun 2021 20:34:40
Thank you Ed.

13.) 23 Jun 2021 06:06:25
Perhaps less likely, but Traore has a fair record playing through the centre. He is a player that can pull off the exquisite at times, but lacks a bit of consistency.

14.) 23 Jun 2021 06:31:41
I just checked back on Alvarez, as I had also seen reference to him playing through the centre as an option. At only 5’7’’, I think it would more likely that role would be as a second striker/ no. 10, rather than centre forward.

14 Jun 2021 18:12:11
After signing Buendia, if we got Ward-Prowse, Andrea Bellotti and an up and coming left back, would be the perfect transfer window for me

If Archer starts tomorrow night and scores 1 or 2 or maybe even 3, he should start at the weekend, with ALL of us behind him, or maybe not play him tomorrow and put him straight in on Sunday, call that a plan B if you like, not a desperation tactic ??‍♂️

If the score stays the same, L'pool will only have 2 points from 3 games, Klopp obviously has no plan B, and so on and so on. ?

1.) 22 Aug 2022 21:02:34
theres a difference let's not copare villa to lpool jesus u know lpool will be in top4 and trying to win cups lpool trust klopp, while villa we don't trust gerreard and you know villa will be 14/15 in league klopps a wclass manager gerreard is not

2.) 22 Aug 2022 21:16:35
Applying the same logic to Liverpool as you do to Villa Klopp must surely join the redundancy queue.

3.) 22 Aug 2022 21:23:37
I don’t think Ally is comparing us with Liverpool merely that all teams at some point suffer dips in form. The best owners don’t make rash decisions on that basis particularly given the level of investment they have made especially since Gerrard has been at the club not only in terms of transfer fees but wages etc. We just need to be patient and give Gerrard time to get the squad he wants develop the identity of the team. If things have not progressed by the end of the season then that's the time to review let’s be honest we aren’t that poor they we are going to get relegated.

4.) 22 Aug 2022 21:32:25
Exactly Ings ??

5.) 22 Aug 2022 21:41:33
we couldn't even beat bournemouth if you think were not poor i don't know what ganes u are watching we only beat a poor everton side that are going to be in bottom half with us,i don't think we will go dwn but it will be close stevie might turn it around but there's more chance me turning white than that happening

8.) 22 Aug 2022 22:10:06
why would you sack klopp he's earnt time to turn things around, gerreards had more than enough time like i said 3wins in 14 games is an amazing return, and villa are playing so well, this is dean smith all again, i'm sure some people are watching a different villa because what I've been watching is utter rubbish, and i hope our owners are not happy with this aswell if there ambitous they should get rid and get a manager that can get best out these players, gerreard is not good enough,if we stick untill jan we could be in big trouble and behind in my opinion, lets face it were not good it guts me too say it in fact were poor and have been for a while,we are not better off than when deano was in charge, stats don't lie,we have a shocking defence, lightweight midfield, and a half decent strikeforce, and a class gk

9.) 22 Aug 2022 22:18:28
who no daz

10.) 22 Aug 2022 22:20:29
no villa daz, this the 1st time on here

11.) 23 Aug 2022 00:18:08
Jonny, there are many on here with claret tinted glasses. I have been also been critized in the past especially when we survived by the skin of our teeth under Smith and was told we should have given him time. Just remember we survived by a lucky goal in the last game of the season. What we are seeing at the moment is exactly the same with Gerrard. To the realists we are seeing poor performances, poor coaching and over paid players under delivering. The guy you are accused of being in the past, had extreme views to some of the guys on here, unfortunately the final outcome, he wasn't far off the mark just like you. We all want our team to do well, however when our owners have spend hundreds of millions and we see performances against Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, something has to change or we are going to mirror Smiths results. 3 wins out of the last 14 games is not acceptable and if this continues we won't be in an end of season battle we won't even make it that far.

12.) 23 Aug 2022 06:23:44
I think you need to read the press releases they are all saying Gerrard’s position is safe, so no change in management anytime soon.

13.) 23 Aug 2022 11:07:43
Loti tell me that if we are deep in a relegation battle that we don't look like winning, bet you the owners change their position if things aren't going well.

21 Aug 2022 21:41:59
I'm not going to claim that I saw every kick of yesterday's game but from MOTD I saw a great assist from Bailey (& he also hit the bar, 2cm lower and it's a goal) and a great finish from Ollie, a breakaway goal from Zaha that Gabby woulda struggled to catch him, a penalty save that could've been parried in a different direction (never a pen in the 1st place IMO) and a pin perfect cross and a 1 in 100 finish from the Palace lad, one of those days, let's stop ovulating for a while and get behind them rather than playing Football Manager or if Carlsberg did managers/teams, work in progress, lighten up ??‍♂️

1.) 21 Aug 2022 22:05:49
If it was a one off 72 i would accept your comments, unfortunately its a trend over the last fourteen games, its beyond work in progress, its simply poor tactics, poor team selection and lack of quality in most areas, sugar coating it is not going to improve matters.

2.) 21 Aug 2022 22:15:31
Ally, it could (and should) have been 5-1 or 6-1! It was a desperately bad performance!

3.) 21 Aug 2022 22:42:29
Ally P . we was absolutely shocking and i saw the match .

4.) 22 Aug 2022 00:22:18
After watching Leeds, Newcastle and Brighton today, we clearly have something missing and it’s not the willingness of the owners to invest. They’re money men and not football expert’s and are relying on others to provide that guidance, expertise, motivation and management and, thus far, are being let down. No matter how much you micro-analyse the Palace performance, we lost 3-1. Fortunately, thanks to worse starts from other teams, we’re not yet in the relegation zone. I don’t pretend to have the answer, but I’m not normally this disappointed this early in the season ?

5.) 22 Aug 2022 00:36:54
Ally they ran riot, apart from the first 5 mins we were terrible, palace looked like they would score every time they came forward, the only positive was Ollie getting a goal and Martinez making some good saves, even at that Martinez distribution was god awful, lost count of the balls he put straight out of play. I watched Newcastle against city today, boy did they play well, carved city open time and time again, we couldn’t do that to palace, Everton or Bournemouth il dreading playing the big guys at this rate.

6.) 22 Aug 2022 00:56:43
Caffu, do you think a better manager could get a tune out of these players though? I actually think there is plenty of quality in the squad but for one reason or another they aren't being leveraged appropriately (which sits with Gerrard). We've a front 5 of Watkins, Ings, Bailey, Buendia and Coutinho. All of which stroll into a lot of Premier League sides, we have international full backs, Argentina's number one, a French international holding Midfielder, a Scottish Midfielder that looks top drawer every time he pulls on the international kit and a huge amount of talented kids coming through. For me quality isn't the issue, you put Graham Potter in charge of Villa and it's an entirely different story.

7.) 22 Aug 2022 02:40:38
BK, i think the problem is shared mate, between the manager and the players equally. I hear what you say about the individual players, however there is an awful lot of inconsistency even with the better players. Mcginn rarely these days plays like the Scottish international you refer to, I think making him captain has put added pressure on him, he runs around like a lost soul at times and is reckless with his tackles. Cash is also reckless and some of his defending lacks quality and nouse. Ings and Watkins are both inconsistent. Coutinho isn't the player he was and never will be and doesn't offer enough. Ramsey has one good game in three. Bailey really isn't that good. So i think even the best manager might struggle to get consistency with this lot. My final conclusion, the majority of the squad are not Gerrards signings and until they are he would argue that he can't be held totally accountable for the poor showings we have to endure. So i don't think the owners will consider any change of manager unless things become that dire after the January transfer window.

8.) 22 Aug 2022 08:48:19
Difficult to argue any of the points above.
Consistency of performance and result is our Achilles heel.
Gerrard is clearly having trouble establishing his best starting XI with players coming off the bench and playing well and the then starting the following game and not turning up.
Is it the players or the coaching? No idea.
Looking at the next 3 games we need a big change in performance.
West Ham game is a must win with Arsenal and Man City to follow.

9.) 22 Aug 2022 12:50:37
A lot of good stuff here guys,as I see it the problems are as follow:

a) Manager doesn’t know his best starting XI

b) Gerrard isn’t playing a system that suits the players at his disposal ie we have two attacking full backs who like to bomb on and only one holding midfielder which leaves us exposed at the back.

c) We are too easy to play through in the middle of the park when we lose possession hence why we need another defensive midfielder.

d) We don’t have an out and out goalscorer in the squad

e).Tactically the manager is naive at this level and is being currently being found out.

Having said all that not everything is doom and gloom, our squad is stronger than it has been since the Martin O’Neill days, the academy is flourishing, and whilst this is certainly not what I am advocating as I believe all managers need to be given time to mould a squad and playing style, if Gerrard was sacked and someone like Poch or Potter got the job they would be starting from a strong position in my view.

A couple of summers ago quite a few on here were pushing for us to buy Sander Berge? He's proved his fitness after a nasty injury, has Prem experience, rumours that Klopp wants him too, so surely an option if he's good enough for L'pool?

UTV

Allyp1972

1.) 19 Aug 2022 07:53:51
Funny enough I was watching the EFL highlights and the same thought crossed my mind, and I was one of those who suggested he would be a decent option. 18 months ago he was quoted at something like £30 million and if memory serves Liverpool were allegedly interested then. I am sure he would be half that now and if we get rid of the likes of Traore and Sanson he would be a decent addition to the squad

18 Jun 2022 05:49:44
This is an ambitious 1. watching SSN and they're saying Arsenal have 'cooled' their interest in Tielemans of Leicester who's in the last year of his contract, money talks and imagine a midfield 3 of McGinn Kamara and Tielemans. ?

Yes please ?

2.) 18 Jun 2022 09:35:46
I like the look of him.

3.) 18 Jun 2022 13:23:53
Would be incredibly ambitious but apparently we are looking at ambitious targets for Number 8 and Striker. He fits the bill but my gut says we are after Gallagher and Richarlison, zero idea why LOL.

4.) 18 Jun 2022 15:23:24
I listened to the same podcast and I was thinking it would be Oxlade chamberlain and Suarez as both would tick the boxes and have already been mentioned over and over - but I’d much prefer your two tbh!
Would love Tielemans also but think that’s probably unlikely If Arsenal have cooled it’s likely either he wants to play abroad or wants crazy wages.

5.) 18 Jun 2022 19:41:17
It’s a tough 1 because Ramsey is potentially could be as good as Tielemans, and if Dougie signs a new deal, and was played in that ‘No 8’ role he’d be more effective than what we’ve seen of him so far, my hunch is he’s going to leave though

UTV

6.) 18 Jun 2022 23:56:05
I think Ramsey (and Villa) needs competition in midfield - It won't benefit either party if Ramsey is a guaranteed starter, he has huge potential but if Villa have an opportunity to bring in a ready made Number 8 then they have to take it. Luiz will go in my opinion, as will Sanson on loan so that leaves us very short in midfield - I personally think we'll bring in a big name in midfield, striker may be more difficult as every club seems to be after a striker this summer and we know Villa won't spend for the sake of it. I don't think it'll happen personally but if Villa could attract a Tielemans then we would have a great shout of Europe next season.

7.) 18 Jun 2022 23:59:14
Id rather see maginn playing further forward than Doug, Doug is ok he’s a decent player but he’s not going to bring us to a higher level no matter where he plays imo, if we got 25 million for him I’d be pretty pleased, I don’t think we will get that much for him though, he makes a lot of mistakes and his dead balls are terrible most of the time, I’d sooner sell and buy another defensive midfielder.

8.) 19 Jun 2022 08:07:00
I like Tielemans but I have a mate whose a Leicester fan who says he wants Champions League football and ridiculous money which if true would rule us out. I like Conor Gallagher got a great engine and would compliment what we currently have and at the right age too so if we could get him that would be grand. If we can’t how about a cheeky bid for James Maddison? I know he’s an annoying sod but a great player nonetheless.

Here’s an idea… let him go for £5-10M with a sell on clause, the clubs who want him obviously want to profit from him in any future sale like how Dortmund will with Bellingham where they’ll double maybe even treble what they paid for him, if Chucky turns out to be a flop we’ve got that £5-10M and someone else is paying his wages while he gets there instead of us, win win ??‍♂️

Just a couple of thoughts… don’t think in recent times that Haaland who was a goal machine back when he was 18 was getting that kind of money so why should Chucky get £100K for scoring exactly 0 and passing sideways and backwards? Is his brother still on our books too? Don’t think his stance is going to do his brother any favours either, should be ashamed of himself, bye bye, loan him to the Nose for all I care ?
