Bruce said the weekend he was looking to have Jack as a main stay in the team and really have the team play around him and build them around how to get the best out of him. Makes sense because Bruce has started using formations with a number 10 role which he didn't at all last year and weirdly enough after 3 years Jacks numbers changed to the number 10.

Read today it could be 6 months out with him, but his dad has said 2 or 3, hope its the latter. Should be able to keep fit as well given it's a kidney injury he should be able to do lots of lightweight stuff.

If we sell Nathan Baker and do not bring in a top quality replacement like the level of Chester when we signed him then we are a joke. Selling a crucial part of one of the best parts of our team, for one year from Terry and Samba? If this goes through I really do think the owners/ board have had the wool over our eyes, their clueless. Their still sorting out their past transfer mistakes, don't make more. It's alright tweeting every 5 seconds and what not but I'd rather them concentrate on their job and not ruin chances of promotion before the seasons even started.

chrisAVFC

1.) 28 Jul 2017 11:26:08
The board have said that they are building a team for promotion

Then another team to consolidate in the premises league and finally a team to challenge in the premier league

I think baker is a no nonsense defender but is very injury prone and can be wreck less!

Also would he be good enough for the premier league because he wasn't when we was in it.

2.) 28 Jul 2017 11:53:02
Getting rid if baker is stupid in my opinion,
He is not the greatest granted and is not premiership standard but he never let's the team down with 100 % commitment,
We are stuck with the rubbish like gabby/ bacuna/ Richards and there's no sign any of them will go,
I wish baker all the best at Bristol and I do hope Bruce has contingency plans in place if either Terry and Chester get injured anytime.

3.) 28 Jul 2017 11:56:52
Can see aiden flint going to the scum now they have baker,

4.) 28 Jul 2017 11:57:57
I wouldn't be surprised if baker asked to go!

He has probably had his nose pushed out and realises he is behind terry, samba and Chester

Gabby, richards and Bacuna really need to go.

5.) 28 Jul 2017 12:50:32
If we haven't got more than £4m for him we have made a mistake, selling him to a rival is bad enough but on the cheap would be ridiculous, balancing the books and freeing up cash to buy others is great but if we don't get promotion this year and samba/ terry retire at the end of the season or are just too old we are then needing two defenders not to mention the vultures will then be circling for the likes of kodja/ hrwalish and co.

I'm sure there is a plan and time will eventually reveal the method to the madness but on face value personally it looks like another Cahill moment.

6.) 28 Jul 2017 13:25:06
Hate to say I told you so on this 1. good luck in the rest of your career Nathan, I for 1 will clap your name when it's read out when you play us at VP

UTV.

7.) 28 Jul 2017 13:49:52
Injury prone, Caught out of position to many times, Wayward in tackles this transfer has certainly split the ranks I for one think it's best if he leaves never in the same league as Cahill was. Plenty of cover at the back me thinks there might be a incoming centre half soon #INBRUCEITRUST.

8.) 28 Jul 2017 15:29:07
I'm gutted to be honest, he played 34 times last year and we didn't lose with him, Chester and Jedinak playing. He is top quality at this level and more than good enough to get promoted. If you had to rank our centre backs he'd be in the top 3, sell Richards or Elphic. Stupid decision made by morons.

9.) 28 Jul 2017 15:32:19
And his gone, thought it was too ridiculous to be true. However at the Aston Villa circus anything is possible. We are a laughing stock.

10.) 28 Jul 2017 15:42:09
Did you give last season a miss villa daz?

11.) 28 Jul 2017 16:27:16
I did last season for personal reasons Chris but still managed to attend 8 home games last season but was a season ticket holder for as long as I can remember mate from what I saw of him he wasn't the best in my humble opinion. I don't know it's a weird one this listening and reading what people are saying it's split down the middle people are saying why not get rid of Michael and others but it's so hard if teams don't want to take a gamble like we did it's a bit like roulette isn't it gamble on red and black comes in poo poo happens sometimes I don't think we are a laughing stock like you said mate far from that this season will tell I guess UTV bud.

12.) 28 Jul 2017 17:28:50
Fair enough Daz, it has really split the fans it's a weird one. I'm gutted to be honest. And Allyp you do realise we've sold Baker not Chester? You said you could see Chester being sold.

13.) 28 Jul 2017 18:04:23
I said heard rumblings about Baker moving on last week, so on the plus side it looks like unless Bruce is off his head, Chester is staying, only positive I can see from Baker leaving. It's done now, but 1 more thing, if Alex Bruce does come in as a replacement as some have suggested, he ain't no Maldini, but don't write him off before he's put on the shirt, he'd be a squad player, which if Elphick goes too, surely good business?

UTV.

14.) 28 Jul 2017 18:40:41
I may have missed the answer to this but did Baker request the transfer or did Villa push him?

15.) 28 Jul 2017 19:54:08
I just think it's ridiculous because:
1. It's incredibly short sighted as a lot of the decisions / dealings this summer have been.

2. Its weakening us, not strengthening us, our strongest 3rd choice centre back would of been Baker, but we sell him and keep weaker players.

3. It could be very early in the season when we see a centre back partnership of Chester and Micah / Jedinak / De Laet. Terry and Samba can't play 3 games in a week and at their age will be very injury prone.

Elphic is on his way out. This is just another decision that completely baffles, either Tony's skint or FFP is a lot lot worse than what we've been led to believe.

16.) 28 Jul 2017 20:39:19
It is a strange 1 tbh, there's many twist and turns up ahead me thinks.

UTV.

17.) 28 Jul 2017 23:58:27
I recal Baker winning man of the match against Liverpool during our win at the start of Lamberts penultimate season win at Anfield. So much promise and just so unlucky with injuries until recently. Really dissappointed to see him go as will do a job especially in this league. As for being a Cahill I don't think he will make it that far as we have seen so much more of him than Gary Cahill in a villa shirt! Wish him every success for the future unless against the villa of course. Bruce will make some contiversial decisions to get us where we belong I am sure UTV.

25 Jul 2017 22:45:39
Alan Nixon on twitter - Villa are looking to bring in Snodgrass once we've moved some players on. Now your talking.

chrisAVFC

1.) 26 Jul 2017 10:16:48
Snodgrass has said he will not drop a division,
So can't see this happening to tbh,

2.) 26 Jul 2017 11:08:39
Where has he said this?

3.) 26 Jul 2017 11:44:44
Snodgrass said in a interview on west ham website he wants to stay in prem.

4.) 26 Jul 2017 12:21:06
Bit weird, why would his own club put out an interview / quote from one of their players talking about moving on. You got a link?

5.) 26 Jul 2017 12:47:36
Snodgrass does not want to leave west ham,
Club want him out,
Not got a link sorry.

6.) 26 Jul 2017 14:53:13
Daily mail, where he said he is committed to west ham but he did not say he will not drop down a division.

goo.gl/7PPwz

Mirror, which says he does not want to drop down, from where I am not sure. But this was after his interview. West ham has put him on transfer list.

goo.gl/Fxjor

7.) 26 Jul 2017 16:14:01
Cheers Indian👍 Might be one for end of the transfer window then, when he hasn't got any game time and no Prem clubs are sniffing. He was at hull not long ago so I'm sure we could find a middle ground between what he was getting paid then and what he does now.

8.) 26 Jul 2017 17:26:30
To be fair Snodgrass would be a very good signing if it happened
Got a wicked good leftpeg delivery.

9.) 26 Jul 2017 17:29:39
Cheers mate. That would be great. Hope it happens as soon as possible.

24 Jul 2017 20:17:08
Anyone know anything about this Sheyi Ojo? Being reported we've entered the race for him on loan. Seems like there are quite a few teams after him. All 3 clubs that were promoted made use of the loan market well so would be good if we could find someone who offers something different to our group.

chrisAVFC

1.) 24 Jul 2017 21:17:56
Any ideas who's established and available, not just youngsters? We could do with a bit of cover at right back IMO? 😉

UTV.

2.) 24 Jul 2017 21:19:34
Gonna get pelters but. Andy Carroll?

UTV.

3.) 24 Jul 2017 21:54:18
I'd love an Andy Carroll. Much better than given credit for!

4.) 25 Jul 2017 13:24:41
Can not see the fascination with this ojo!
I agree green is a far better player in my opinion,
Just like to see a old fashioned centre forward on board
Just as long it's not another r/ back?

5.) 25 Jul 2017 22:42:19
I'd love him, but don't think they'd let him go, wages would be astronomical and don't think he could stay fit for more than 3 months👎 When you think Palmer, Izzy Brown and Atsu were all pivotal parts of teams getting promoted, we should definitely have a look.

23 Jul 2017 11:35:21
Alan Nixon has just tweeted about how Hutton is close to a move to Sheff Wednesday, this is a bit weird for me. At the end of last season for a good 10-15 games he was first on the team sheet, people said he was playing out his skin for the contract extension (which he got), however if that is true or not, he was playing brilliant. We have 6 recognised right backs;

Hutton - first team last season, effort, passion and desire above anyone else, brilliant outlet down the right, positionally dodgey sometimes and final ball not always perfect (but no worse than adomahs)
Bree - lots of potential, has looked brilliant in games, but also got ripped to shreds by a 16 year old midget at Fulham last year.

De Laet - looked good before his injury, but could be 3-6 months before his completely back same way amavi was.
Richards - probably needs to go now just for the wages, not a good enough centre back and we don't need right backs.
Bacuna - more of a midfielder
Elmo - right midfielder/ wing back, probably too attacking to play out and out right back.

So from that I'd be looking to move on de Laet because we haven't got time to wait around for players and see if they can return to what they was, an then Richards.

Keep Hutton for when we play 4 at the back (which we'll have to on the first game because bakers suspended) and use bree as back up and let them push each other. And then have Elmo for the right mid or when we play wing backs. Keep bacuna in the middle.
I think selling Hutton would be a stupid decision, hope we don't.

chrisAVFC

1.) 23 Jul 2017 11:42:54
I agree mate. Only player who constantly shows passion. Always an out for the ball.

2.) 23 Jul 2017 11:54:51
NOOOOOO don't sell the scotish cafu so good passion workrate and i thought could of been captin only one that cares.

3.) 23 Jul 2017 12:09:16
I really don't understand the people that constantly slag him, he isn't that bad, only thing that is a huge negative is his caught out of position, but if he goes on a run and gets the ball out, it's down to other player to have the intelligence to cover the space he's left.

4.) 23 Jul 2017 12:55:47
I'd say it's a wages thing. Hutton is probably still on premier league wages.

5.) 23 Jul 2017 12:59:03
Elmo pushing AA for the right wing and keeping bree, Hutton and RDL makes sense, give RDL time to recover and if he isn't close come Xmas look to move him in then. The strength in depth is there, the 19/ 20 plus youth all depends on what we are classic as youth players freakish should be senior now and that then means we may be selling RDL/ Hutton/ Richards if we get the right offer.

6.) 23 Jul 2017 13:01:01
Agree with everyone about Hutton,
He has not let us down,
Defence wise not the greatest but always gives 100%,
Must be down to his high wages I reckan.

7.) 23 Jul 2017 14:20:01
Interesting to see what price they get for rmc
Can not see any club offering over 5 mill,

8.) 23 Jul 2017 14:36:38
Christ mainbob, I agree with you on both these last two posts.
scary times! I'm going for a lay down!

Seems the squad I put up earlier was right, starting 11 should strong enough to win and O'hare, Clark and Doyle-Hayes getting a start is brilliant. Remember last year when everyone loved to point out that Bruce never used youngsters and that was the source of all our problems.

chrisAVFC

1.) 22 Aug 2017 18:56:15
Very pleased to see o'hare and doyle-hayes
These 2 could be very good young kids if they are used by the manager,

22 Aug 2017 13:16:07
Just heard the lads travelling tonight are:

Jed Steer
Mark Bunn
James Bree
Tommy Elphic
Ritchie De Laet
Mitch Clark
Gary Gardner
Jake Doyle-Hayes
Birkir Bjarnason
Callum O'Hare
Albert Adomah
Scott Hogan
Micah Richards
Ross McCormack
Easah Suliman
Khalid Abdo
Jordan Lyden
Jordan Cox

Good to see so many young lads getting a chance, and there should really be a first 11 in there to get us through to the next round however you'd have thought we would of kept some aspects of the team from Saturday in order to build momentum. I presume Ross, Gary and Micah are there to go in the shop window.

chrisAVFC

1.) 22 Aug 2017 13:53:17
Hope this is wrong btw, should be taking full strength and keeping momentum going.

2.) 22 Aug 2017 14:26:03
Would not take full strength side but would take a strong side based on the full strength side
my team would be
steer
DeLaett
Samba
Chester
Bjarnason
O'Hare
Jedi
Adomah
Hogan
Lydon
Suliman.

3.) 22 Aug 2017 14:32:22
And risk burn our for Friday's game at Bristol. Rest key players tonight play the fringe ones. They have points to prove.

4.) 22 Aug 2017 14:56:38
We don't need to risk the main starting ellevento injury. Think its a good decision to leave the main stay out. NOT bothered bout the cup games more concerned with our fights in the league and the possibility of promotion.

22 Aug 2017 10:25:26
Team for Tonight:

Johnstone
Bree Chester Terry Taylor
Elmo Whelan Hourihane Green
Davies Hogan

Keep defense and keeper the same so they carry on building confidence, keep Hourihane firing, experiment with two in the middle so we can get two up top and try to work out how to get Hogan firing. When his played on his own he makes all these runs and never gets found, Davies got the ball every run he made Saturday. We have to find a way to get him going and with some who can hold the ball, wait for support, lay it off to a midfielder who can then play in hogan, we might just see why we paid 12million for him. Then if it's comfortable by the 60th minute, send on O'hare, Doyle-Hayes, Lyden to get them more first team minutes.

chrisAVFC

1.) 22 Aug 2017 13:00:05
Swap out Bree for De Laet, Lansbury for Elmo, Whelan and Jedi (if fit) interchangeable, Green swapping wings as needed, and that's our strongest team at the mo for any game cup or league, and would be a pleasure to watch

UTV.

2.) 22 Aug 2017 13:16:42
Lansbury as a right midfielder?

3.) 22 Aug 2017 17:43:19
Midfield 3, Green moving from wing to wing depending on if our full backs are overrun on 1 side, I'd be thinking Jedi or Whelan in front of the back 4, Lansbury and Hourihane right and left, but advanced when possible, 2 up top or 1 and a 'No10' which then becomes a 'diamond' formation, but I'd really like to see 2 up top with Hogan feeding off Davis, in my dream world it'd be Carroll and Hogan, but Davis has got to be given a run in the team going on what we've seen so far, and Hogan has got to catch fire at some point, I see it as we're Aston Villa, let the opposition worry about US, we've got what should be a pretty solid defensive unit behind those attack minded players, surely it's better to try to win from the off, we've got the players to do it?

UTV.

20 Aug 2017 11:05:01
We've tried one up top nearly every game this season, using Hogan and Gabby, neither are strikers who hold the ball up. Davies should have scored yesterday if we're honest, but we got away with those chances because of how he held it up and brought others into play, hope we see Davies and Hogan together soon, every run Davies made yesterday he was found, with hogan next to him and Davies occupying the centre halves, the midfield can find Hogan easier. Only thing with two up top is sacrificing one of the 3 in the middle, which as we saw yesterday was so effective, so when not in possession one of the two up front have to fill in the middle, Hogan easily has the energy to do that.

Johnstone
Taylor Terry Chester Bree
Green Whelan Hourihane Elmo
Hogan Davies
Then swap Whelan with Jedinak when fit, gives us good balance and should be the team to drag us up the league.
Still can't see how we can play how we did yesterday at home and then become so disjointed and awful away from home.

chrisAVFC

1.) 20 Aug 2017 14:04:38
What a delight to see a young player who can control a football and have awareness of all around him,
Not without strength as the Norwich c/ backs will testify
Please Bruce keep gabby away from the team in future
And I'm hoping to see o'hare getting a run out on Tuesday,

19 Aug 2017 22:44:40
John Terry - at fault for their second goal today, didn't track his man leaving him in acres of space. Can argue Bree shouldn't have let the cross come in but because of the space Olivera was left in it was such an easy goal to avoid. We've conceded 9 goals in 4 games, either Terry isn't cut out for the championship and Baker gave us a more solid back line or Jedinak is just as important as any of the defense in us keeping clean sheets.

Do you post when drunk WTW? Nothing you've said here is wrong or controversial or anything but it's just repetitive and pointing out the obvious, makes it sound like you've had a few mate😂.
If we keep losing he has to be sacked - your like Sherlock
It's up to the owner - again think we all knew that he wasn't going to make decisions based on posts on the internet
It's Dr Tony's club - kind of just said that mate
It's Dr Tony's Money - well I didn't think you was personally bank rolling the whole thing

Just a joke WTW, hopefully as we're at home we see a win tomorrow, get us back on track.

But how do you get the best out of him? You can't blame Bruce for everything it's getting embarrassing WTW, next you'll say he's responsible for global warming. Against Watford in the friendly he played him behind the striker in the number 10, he was woeful. Tried him in a midfield 3 and he does nothing, him and Lansbury don't seem to work as a 2. I think that's why we've signed Onomah, reminded me of the snake in the cup, calm on the ball, carries it well and picks his passes. Hourihanes only saving grace so far is his set pieces, although probably a couple of times last season hourihane really did look like the player we thought we was getting, but his hit and miss, hopefully just needs time to settle.

Robbie Keane is a like for like replacement for Kodjia? Allyp mate your either off your rocker completely or living 10 years ago. To answer your question if we were to sell Kodjia for 30mil+ I'd go for Shane long, Forestieri, lassa Vibe - someone who can beat a man, that's Kodjias biggest strength. Dwight Gayle maybe.

That would leave us with Gabby and RHM, presuming we sell McCormack which seems likely. Neither of the two can stay fit for 5 minutes so we would be stupidly short in that department.

When you say better service, his first goal yes, but did you see his second? That was probably the hardest chance he had all season and to many strikers not even a chance, he made that goal himself and fair play to him. We need to keep him playing and get his confidence up, for every goal he scores he misses 2 or 3 easier chances, give him game time and he'll be banging in all 3. Really hope we see him up top with Davies at some point on Friday, let Davies do all the work hogan doesn't/ can't hold the ball up, build up the play, then let Hogan do what he does best, make the runs, get into the positions and finish the chances.
