What forward line we have now, add Allyson, Garnacho and Hemmings to that and Whooopy.
The whole team played brilliant, extra shout out for Lindeloff and Wambasaka out of position but kept Greenwood quiet. Kamara was looking way more like himself, all over the park winning the ball. Perhaps Barkley had already been nominated as penalty taker, but shame Jackson wasn't given it for his hat trick, he certainly deserved it. Must say I'm blown away, by just how much ability Jackson has, can certainly score goals, but his other touches are great.

Great to see our German signing ( sorry still can't pronounce his name HaHa )get on, with his ability and experience I'm expecting a lot of him. Let's hope that this is the turning point, must say I can't wait for our next Newcastle on Saturday, play with that energy and pace, and we will have a good chance against anybody. UTV.

Exactly Dave. I still find it mind boggling that every season, as soon as we face a bit of adversity or poor form, the same old panic comes out from a small group.
That's not to say that tonights result doesn't mean that this season is going to be tough - we're a young, potentially brilliant team that will take time to gel and develop. I've said before that with the turnover in our squad coupled with an empty stand and a league that looks like it's going to be incredibly unpredictable, we could easily finish anywhere from 4th to 14th, but the long term vision and strategy is only going to get us competing towards the top in the medium to long term.

Frustrating as it is, in our position we might have to take one step back to take two forward, but we have some serious potential now. Whatever happens this season, next season, with a bigger and complete Villa Park could well be our best season for a long, long time. As long as we don't let a noisy minority hit the panic button.

From what I've heard there is some wiggle room to move in Jan if the right deal presents itself.there's are also one or two that nearly moved in the summer who could leave and be replaced, but I wouldn't be expecting more than one or two coming in.would love us to sign a top quality cb and one more slightly more creative cm, but Goreztka could turn out to be a big singing.

Who knows.
Will be interesting to see which direction they go with Garnacho too, with Allyson and Hemmings both looking seriously viable and Madjo still to come back in. Cpuld be another Elliot scenario. Loads of promising youth, which inevitably means a few ups and downs, but we have some serious potential to harness.

We've just had a three week break, looking at the fixtures, I notice besides Europe mid week, we've got premier League as well. Hope I'm wrong but, it's crying out for more injuries, we've heard over the last couple of seasons about, the health and wellbeing of players, I certainly can't see this helping. UTV.

Mings didn't have his best game yesterday and my heart was in my mouth every time he had it in our box but he is normally fairly dependably when left to do what he does best- clear headers and be physical in the box. Unfortunately he occasionally thinks he's pele and this is when he's a liability.

Most likely this will be his last season and with everyone fully fit I can't see him being in Unai's starting 11 but he is a decent back up and doesn't deserve all this constant criticism.

He wouldn't get criticised so much if he didn't have a mistake in him every single game.
Unfortunately we have a shortage of CBs so he will get game time.
He was useful for first 3 or 4 years back in the Premier League but his no longer anywhere near good enough.
I feel sure we'll be buying another CB in January.

He was played because he's more physical than Pau. Unai knows we won't be as good playing out when Mings plays. If Pau started and lost the majority of his duels then you'd be slating him.

Keep saying, one of our best signings for ages, Lindeloff, by far man of the match, in all the positions he's played, I can't remember him ever having a bad game. We had so many chances to win that, you can see the shoots are there,for becoming very good. Must say, I wasn't that excited when we signed Jackson, but he's certainly won me over, he's so strong in his running and looks really dangerous. Thought midfield looked stronger, non stop running by Gomes, and Kamara looking better, still need the German lad fit and ready.

Tyrone made a cock up, but pulled it back round after, as others have said, Pau makes his share as well. Hope Ruggeri only a niggle, threw our shape out when he went off. Some of the younger lads, you can see, need a bit more tuition off Emery, to sort out what and where they're supposed to be, got the ability it just needs fine tuning. Looks like Lindeloff could be Left back if Ruggeri not fit, on Wednesday, you can be sure he won't let us down. UTV.

Dave perhaps after 68 seasons, Iv seen it all before, so I just say it as I see it. Unlike some on here, I don't have an axe to grind. If the team or individual players play well, I say it,if they have a bad one I say it, quite simple really HaHa.

Some on here seem to take great enjoyment in going all out attacking certain players continually, can't understand that. As a fan, you just hope, your team continually improves, wins more than losing,,and stay away from injuries. UTV.

Kamara is miles off it, Gomes worked his socks off but was let down by the other two in there with him.
Yet again recruitment from Emery lacking, can't moan about psr then continue to waste money on players that aren't going to play.
I am concerned for this season.

Dan, I also think things are way off where they should be at the moment, patience is obviously essential however, eventually patience wains if things don't seem to be improving, it's early days so let's give it a few more games and see if we are going in the right direction.


I'm am concerned about Kamara, his injury definitely hasn't helped, however he has looked a passenger for long periods of the opening games and if it was anyone else they would have been benched by now. Our Midfield is definitely an issue.

Dan your comment about Emery's recruitment yet again lacking. just does not add up mate. you praised Gomes (Emery recruitment) but slagged Kamara and the "other” two off who were not Emery recruits.

Let's look at some of the recruits Emery has brought to this club Suzuki, Lindelof, Gomes, Manzambi, Jackson, Telemans, Rashford, Alonso, Alysson, Mbaye, Majio, Cesse yes you can make a list of others that have not stayed or got sold on but there is not a team in the league who have brought players and everyone of them went on to have to have a great career at that club.

some players fit in and some don't it's called football mate.

I responded to a comment that said Kamara and Gomes looked good by pointing out Kamara looks miles off it,which he does.
I'm not sure what you're getting at by pointing out Kamara wasn't signed by Emery considering he's been one of our best players consistently since coming into the club so pointing out he wasn't signed by Emery is rather perplexing.

I can only work on what I've seen to gauge opinion on his recruitment and in the main it's been very underwhelming and a lot will agree with that.

Rashford (one top performance and a few flashes of excellence but overall underwhelming)

I won't mention the PSR signings as that was a book balancing act and it wouldn't be fair to judge him on that.

I think he's done an absolutely incredible job at the club and I think he's one of the best coaches in world football.
I am also unsure of his ability to oversee a complete rebuild at the club and I don't think I'm talking out of turn by having doubts.

With our precarious financial position, no European football at the end of the season could prove to be a massive issue for the football club going forward. Unfortunately for Unai he's seen a lot of players sold and decide to leave and he now has to get everything right in terms of recruitment. Let's be honest defensively we are worse than last season and we are really struggling to create through midfield.

I'm not on here to argue with people or belittle them as we all love the club, but I also don't think the manager is immune from doubt.

Dan like you mate l am worried about this season. Like you said we cannot keep complaining about PSR. But know doubt about it it is effecting us we cannot get to the next level because we cannot buy the players we want so we have to loan players. Signing players you and hoping they come good is hit and miss as all the clubs find not just us. But loan players is even worse they are either players that can't get into there own team or young players hoping to make into the big time. So this is a massive gamble and like we are seeing even with a manager as good as Emery you often fail.
I do NOT think we will get into Europe this season because of the rebuilding.

I agree we need a creative midfield player. I think Gomes was brought in to cover (replace) Kamara because he Kamara always gets injured and misses large parts of the season.
Our defence has been a problem for a long time and it has been covered up by the fact we have done so well in the last 4 seasons.
Finally l think this is going to be a long hard season with little or nothing to show for it at the end. That's just my opinion and not a argument. All we can do is trust in Emery he hasn't done to bad so far in my opinion. UTV.

It's the 96th minute, end of added time,virtually the last kick of the game and what do we do, lose the ball without doing anything other than lose the ball, that summed the afternoon performance to me. Thank god we have one decent defender Lindelof was my man of the match.

Mings wasn't the worst player on the field, it's obvious why he was played today, Brentford rely on the long throw and it is a threat, so Mings did do well with Brentford's aerial threat, noe much else I accept. Kamara looks like a lost sheep,I don't know what's the problem with him,but it's not the Kamara we know and love. When Tom goes on about Mings he ought to take a good hard look at Cash, he is woeful and has been for a while. Buendia should not be a regular starter.

The game was crying out for Barkley why Emery didn't bring him on at half time is beyond me. Brentford on today and this seasons performance are a far better side than us and a draw was as good as we deserved today. We know it's going to take time, however are midfield are virtually non existent at times and not for the first time we gave the ball away far to cheaply.

Emery doesn't trust a couple of our new signings, how on earth are they going to improve their performances if they don't get enough game time. I genuinely think there are enough worrying signs at the moment and we don't seem to be doing anything different to address these.
IEWT and always will but he needs to sharpen more than a few of them up.

Your having a laugh RE Barkley, being shocking every time he played and not just this season. for me, we haven't replaced YT and we miss his defence breaking balls so much, if Kamara don't improve soon I can see him losing his place in the starting 11 once Goretzka is fit.

Backwards Barkley plays very little forward. his party trick for the last 10 months is "faint left faint right then turn around and play it backwards, his head is gone he's looked nothing but clueless in my opinion, slow aswel.
we have maginn I'd play him in the middle with Gomes on current form, drop Kamara and use our young pacey wingers out wide.

Sat in Doug Ellis today no singing plenty of moaning and told to sit down by a few fans when we as on the attack the prawn sandwich brigade are well and truly set in their ways in that ground embarrassing. Why go and support your team if you don't show a bit of enthusiasm is beyond me ?

Mings, what can you say? He's not good enough and really needs to stick to basics. He's not a ball playing CH, never has been. His feet just cannot keep up with what his brain is trying to do.


Definitely to blame for the 1st goal.
Jackson took his goal well.
How did McGinn not score in the 1st half ??
A draw just about fair in the end.
Brentford have a very settled squad and are reaping the benefits of that right now.
