On the subject of tactics is it not possible that we play 1 formation Home and Away? I was just thinking if you keep changing formations you cannot develop a pattern of play or a settled squad because you will be swapping and changes players also we need a settled formation and a pattern of play. Its like Bruce is just trying anything hoping to get lucky with a formation. Which bring me to my next point if he isn't sure what formation to play how can the players lisen to him and get a understanding of how he wants to play if he don't know himself? Its like we are buying bits and bobs rather than buying players to fit a formation and style. I will back the team and Bruce as I said but there's many floors in changing formations every week. Because teams when at home, with their home support generally attack more.
So it makes sense to play teams on the break, by the same token, teams away from home, generally allow the home team to press, absorb pressure and hit on the break.

So at home, in my option you need a strong rigid set up, a back four, with a solid mid field with width.
4 4 2

When away, in my opinion you need solid midfield, that can both drop deep, but with the legs to hit on the break and support a top two.
3 5 2

And I totally disagree that it's not productive to be able to swap formations, and possibly even adapt during a match.
For many reasons, non least, to keep the opposition guessing, we should be able to change and confuse the opposition, let's be honest we SHOULD be that good that they fear us, not us them.

MON used to change formations mid game, kept teams guessing and gave us an edge.

This time last year we had drawn 2, lost 2 won 1, 5 points the same to what we have at the moment, but i personally think we are better equipped for this season. We certainly should finish top 2 or at least the play offs.

Think we will be in and around the play offs. I agree we are in a better place this year with the players available. same points at the moment as last year but we are stronger and expect us to do a lot better over the next few games.

Where would you play Snodgrass? Right wing or No 10, if No 10 who would you leave out?

27 Aug 2017 14:36:23
At the mo is go for 4231 formation
Johnstone
Bree terry Chester Taylor
Hourihane Whelan
Elhammady Snodgrass green
Hogan.

Debatable upfront with Davis. But Hogan has scored this season knows where the goal is. Davis just needs. that break through goal and soon. But with jedi kodja still to come back there is healthy competition at the club which there really has not been for some time.

This might surprise many villa fans but if I could I would drop Terry,
I have been disappointed with him
He has been responsible for 2 goals conceded and his leadership qualities are not seen by me,
But we know he will play every game when he is fit so it's just a observation by myself.

27 Aug 2017 16:23:12
Fair point however who would you play instead? As samba is poor. Elphick has no pace and Richards useless.

27 Aug 2017 18:34:43
Sulaman.

28 Aug 2017 19:00:11
Hourihane has to play no10 after the Norwich game his performance was outstanding. First time that he has really played there and everything that was good about us went through him imo. (Ryan) 😂 Snodgrass is a decent addition but not at 10. Hopefully SB has a place in one of his systems for him to help us push up the league. We still have the best squad in this division with plenty of goals in it. Just need to find the right mix And not to defend too deep as a team away from VP. Leaves the sole attacker isolated and no hope of hitting on the break.

So Villa fans or shall I say managers because after every game we all think we know best I would like to ask the edds for a poll everybodys slating Bruces tactics everyweek so what formation shall we play choices 4 4 2, 3 5 2, 3 4 3, 5 3 2, 4 3 2 1, 4 2 3 1. So come on all you Villa know it alls let's do a poll and see which formation you want Bruce to play and it should be fun.

Different home and away!
4 4 2 at home
3 5 2 away.

27 Aug 2017 06:11:58
4-4-2 all games, 2 wingers at home, 1 away, always 2 up top whether it's big man little man, or striker and No10, we've got the players to beat anyone in this division, let the opposition worry about us

UTV.

27 Aug 2017 08:37:47
4-2-3-1 at home, 4-5-1 away from home, similar formations just the wide men and number 10 sit deeper away from home. Give us protection away from home but also an outlet and opportunity to get forward. At home it allows us 4 players getting at their defense taking the game to them. Would love to see 2 up top but it leaves us way too exposed and over run in the middle of the park.

4-4-2 home and away,
Sod all these fancy systems!
Get back to the basics.

27 Aug 2017 11:29:31
4-2-3-1 or 4-4-F''king 2.

27 Aug 2017 13:35:23
4 5 1 (4 3 3)

27 Aug 2017 14:13:31
442 or 451, both rotating to suit whoever you are playing.

27 Aug 2017 16:16:33
Its got to depend on who your playing and what their formation is and adapt accordngly.

29 Aug 2017 14:08:26
Should we not be making other teams worry about us and assert outselves on a game early on and play a certain way and let them try to adapt to us, obviously every now and then we need to switch it up to stop becoming predictable, if we have the quality we all believe we have we should be able to over come teams parking the bus home or away so should just get at them from the off and play to our strengths instead of worrying about their strengths.
