Hi all, being a rangers fan I've kept an eye at villa because of sg, for me Beale was the brains behind sg at rangers. I've noticed villa not had a great start to the season. I've not seen any of your games but I'm presuming it's still the full backs flying forward in a rigid 433 with no change of shape regardless of opposition, tactics or scoreline. I've always said when he was at rangers was as soon as teams push there full backs forward rangers were left wide open, I said if he didn't change tactics at villa then villa would struggle, is this the case? Thoughts?

Dd1980-hope you and yours are all well, yep sg is sticking to his guns, since Beale left to manage rangers (queens park version-it had to be!)and we have been a pile of tosh, you were right about Beale being the one in the know,I think sg is a newer version of bryan Robson, big name to attract talent, but coaching wise, not the sharpest, but listen,if you fancy sg back for a swap for GVB we're prepared to do you a favour and help you out!
-by the way top work in the psv games, you deserve to keep rolling them over, great spirit and top recruitment this summer, wish I could say that for us!-keep up the good work and look after our next manager will you!-lol!

Hi troops, gers fan here.ive been keeping a close eye on villa for obvois reasons. sorry to say tho sg not had any diffrent tactic change from gers, yes villa look dangerous with the 2 full backs bombing forward but as soon as villa lose the ball there vulnerable at the back as 2 CB need to cover leaving huge gaps.same tactics at gers where he lost the first goal 9 games in a row before sg left.

Dd can i politely request you stay north of the border watching totally uncompetitive football.

2.) 15 Jan 2022 21:30:20
That's the 3rd time you've posted the same carp Dd, with all due respect maybe you should stick to gers, as SG is gone you need to get over it.

3.) 15 Jan 2022 22:54:24
Also I'd like to add, coaches don't tend to change their style when they move from 1 team to another, he's built his reputation playing that way and nobody expected him to change

Hi guys, gers fan here. I've been keeping an eye on villa because of sg. trouble I'm seeing is sg is still very 1 dimensional. 433 system with the full backs flying forward yet there's no plan b from him. as soon as villa lose the ball in midfield your wide open or any quick ball from the opposition down the wing your ch needs to come over to cover. these tactics at rangers got found out and before sg left gers lost the first goal in his last nine games as teams knew his tactics.since gers got gio in we have list 2 goals since his arrival.

this season I'm predicting Aston villa to do well under sg.I think next season teams will relise that if they play with 2 wingers against Aston villa and as soon as villa lose the ball just ping it to the wing where your wide open. with a cam supporting the striker its inevitable. brentford first goal there was an o overlap of 3 against 1 on the left side .all in all good luck under sg and hope that sg learns he needs alternative tactics but from what I've seen so far is very much 433 and nothing else

Sounds a little like bitterness there Dd, disappointed to lose the game yesterday but we are pretty depleted lately with covid and injuries, personally I don’t see anything wrong with the formation but upgrades are needed to implement it in the big boys league, congrats on doing well in the 2 horse race up there.

2.) 04 Jan 2022 00:05:15
Whack attack, entirely not. since sg left we have become a far better team and think we have only lost 2 goals in 7 games compared to sg last 9 games the opposition scoring first. its turned out better for us since sg left. I'm only stating what I've seen from sg team formation and tactics. regardless of what players you had available doesn't matter either as way he sets up his formation. sg tactics are very predictable and yesterdays game showed that. go look back at the brentford goal and was 3 against 1 on the left side as your fb was forward

3.) 04 Jan 2022 14:31:41
Dd, i can fully understand you watching premier league football, rather than the two team uncompetitive stuff north of the border, also if you want to see football of a similar quality to what you currently watch our league 1 is equally as entertaining.

4.) 04 Jan 2022 19:03:39
Dd you guys lost only 1 league game this season, was that not under your new manager? Liverpool arguably 1 of the best teams in world football the last few seasons with 1 of the best managers out there play with the same formation, I suppose klopp is wrong also

Hi guys rangers fan here. little insight into stevie Gerrard. Overall sg did a good job at rangers.the way he likes to play is with 2 attacking full back providing width in a 433 formation.the no 9 striker needs to drop deep also to collect the ball and create space for 10 and 11. beware tho villa fans it's not all rosy. Sg is stuck in his 433 formation and refuses to change his tactics regardless of scoreline or competition. Sg took a couple of years at gers to get a good enough team on the park whilst competing in Europe and doing well also but that was understandandable as gers were really bad when he took over.last season we obvoisly won the league but by near the end of the season teams relised how to outplay gers where I think it will happen a lot lot quicker in the epl. To outplay sg tactics all teams need to do is stop the 2 forward thinking full backs going forward and his whole system falls apart so beware. Any team that plays a 4 or 5 midfield formation will outplay sg tactics and dominate the game. Personaly I think sg will come in for nathen Patterson,Ryan Kent and glen Kamara from rangers in January which will be good signings. good luck for the season and sg may be initialy a good appoitment with sg but I have my doubts as he is so set in stone with his tactics and I reckon will be soon found out in the epl. Will be keeping a close eye on villa for next year or 2 to see how he does, good luck ?⚪? #rangers

If be surprised if he comes back for any of those players mate - You'd imagine that was part of his release clause. Personally I think he'll look for a holding midfielder and left back in January based on some reports I've read (and your feedback above). It'll be interesting to see how he adapts, going forward he should have plenty of options - I can see an approach similar to Liverpool (obvious comparison I know) where we play Watkins (Mane), Ings (Firmino) and Bailey (Salah) as a front three who operate quite close to each other, if that clicks it could be very effective. My biggest concern if midfield, think he will look to add somebody in that position in January.

What's he like with youth? We have some very promising youngsters, namely Chukwumeka, who could really shine under a manager like Gerrard who was such an amazing Midfielder himself.

2.) 11 Nov 2021 16:03:24
Sounds like you will miss him

3.) 11 Nov 2021 16:03:34
Thanks for that Dd, that's a useful insight. Any idea who you've got lined up as a replacement yet? I believe Dean Smith is looking for work - a good manager and many of us were very sorry to see him go.

4.) 11 Nov 2021 16:54:59
Scottcafu. sg has had a very varied start to the league as teams found us out as I explained above.sg very likeable as a person tho. Bk1982 sg did give nathen Patterson a go but only because of injury and truth be told Patterson smashed it.lets put it this way if villa but Patterson he will only be there for a year or 2 then sold to a bigger team.overall with youth tho was very poor so I wouldn't expect much. 1 of my gripes with sg was if sg bought a player and was playing poor he would still play him to try make him a success so it bodes well on sg transfers. By back to your comment bus.glen Kamara is some player trust me.Finnish international and easy coast it as cdm in england as he's done in Europe.patterson is the next Andy Robertson and Ryan Kent is a total class act in Scotland and European competition.if Kent is in villa I'd suggest within 2 years he will be sold and be your highest ever sale.dont let playing in the spl fool you.if you like put his stats in European competition. Back to you menace,I'm hearing gers going in for Giovanni van bronkhorst. An old gers players that won the Dutch league. all in all tho troops yes I'm slightly gutted losing sg but more especialy Michael Beale as he's the tactition and without him sg ain't much.on a plus side I'm kinda happy sg gone as gers need an upgrade as we became to easy to play against nowadays. Gers lost first goal in last 8 matches they played. as I originally said teams relised hiw to play against sg tactics. lastly tho I'm not here to try put any1 down, fans or sg team.just thought as a fellow football fan I'd offer an insight into what to expect for the future.do I think sg can turn your season around.mmm unsure. As I said originally tho troops good luck and I'll be keeping an eye on the villa

5.) 11 Nov 2021 17:03:20
Bk1982 sorry forgot to add to my post that he also took liverpool tactics of 433 to gers.the front 3 don't operate close to each other.he expects the 2 of the 3 (10-11)to be out wide leaving the 9 in the box alone.my only gripe with sg is the 433 liverpool formation.being it's the only way he knows how to play and no other.gers had 2 class number 10s (am) behind the front 2 but he refused to change the system to accommodate them.any1 can say what they like but this is my opinion on sg. as I've said good luck and I'll keep an eye on villa this next few years.?⚪?

6.) 11 Nov 2021 17:41:50
Thanks for the feedback Dd, it'll be interesting to see how it goes - He will inherit a decent, if unbalanced, squad which probably needs some work. By the way, I wasn't turning my nose up to those players you mentioned, I just wonder if it was agreed Villa couldn't come in and poach players from Rangers in January / Summer if Gerrard joined us?

7.) 11 Nov 2021 17:56:42
Dd1980 thanks for the insight really useful and certainly in terms of formation something to watch out for. I can certainly see us being interested in both Patterson and Kamara Paterson because we need someone to challenge Cash at right back and Kamara because we have been crying out for a truly defensive midfielder for some time, however I can’t see us moving for Kent as we are well stocked in wide positions with Bailey, Buendia, Traore, not to mention El Ghazi, Trezeguet, and Philogene Bidace and Watkins can play wide as well I really don’t see that as an area we will look to strengthen right now. Two things you mentioned are a tad worrying for me. Firstly it’s a bit concerning that he doesn’t seem to give youngsters a chance as our business model is built on recruiting youth to replace established stars who are looking to move on Secondly his insistence of playing players irrespective of form is a criticism that was often levelled at Smith so I think this appointment could end up being a bit of a roller coaster ride as our fans tolerance levels are notoriously poor and if our young talent starts to jump ship then I can see conflict with the board. Interesting times to be a Villa fan.

8.) 11 Nov 2021 23:17:22
I'd imagine that would have been discussed though Ings, I'd be amazed if Gerrard doesn't fully embed himself within the club now and our youth set up in too good to be ignored.

Considering he likes to play with three in midfield I wonder could we finally see Sanson given some real game time? Chukwumeka and Ramsey X 2 must be licking their lips at the prospect of learning from Gerrard as well?

Where does everyone think he will strengthen in January? Midfield the obvious place and (assuming no deal has been made not to poach players) I'd agree with Dd1980 that Kamara is the most obvious signing Villa could make? He looks primed for a move to the premiership! I've a feeling he may look at strengthening LB as well, not sure Targett will fit his style of play.

9.) 12 Nov 2021 08:41:29
I agree BK left back and a real defensively minded enforcer are the two key areas for me. Once he has assessed the strengths of the squad it will be interesting to see who gets shipped out. I think the likes of Davis, Hause, AEG, and Trez may well have played there last games for Villa

10.) 12 Nov 2021 10:02:27
Like you guys the central enforcer is top of my list, was the most obvious area needed during the summer and it looks to have cost dean his job, I mentioned a few weeks back about our owners not going to their pockets during the summer they literally let him spend the grealish money, methinks they didn’t have full confidence that he would last in the job and I thought they were holding back money until January in case we had a new man in the dugout, hopefully they bring in a player with lots of experience for the position, I’d be happy enough with one player if it’s the right one

SG rigid 433 is the problem. same happens at rangers.not playing to individual players strengths.
