I hear all these rumour about players coming in most untrue. That got me thinking we used to be a club who gave youth a chance eg gabby, vassell, baker, clark. so why now are we not looking at our youth RHM, sellars, andre, green. they are all good players and care about the club this club has changed so much in the last 20 years and to be honest i don't like all these new ideas they don't work. We are a family club that looks after there own why are we not giving young kids ago now?

13 Jan 2017 16:01:45
Maybe the powers that be don't think they are good enough, and sadly, this season above any, we need results now. Can't let them have much time to settle.
Way the world is at min.

13 Jan 2017 16:50:27
But what if these kids are good enough every player we have brought kodjia aside havnt really set the world a light young lads are hungry and have no fear iam not saying there the answer but it couldn't hurt to give them ago what do you think mate?

13 Jan 2017 17:43:03
I totally disagree mate.
I accept they will be good footballers. and one day might be good enough. However they could come in and be amazing. set the league on fire and send us up.
But. they might not be ready!
A couple of bad losses could not only ruin us, but could destroy their careers before it starts.
We need right now finished articles. players who not only step in, step up and make a difference.

There is also another problem. The last few years at villa have been poison, from the top through to the bottom.
There is only one way to get rid of it, a complete change of mentality and philosophy. Sadly the younger players are still in remission.

13 Jan 2017 17:52:49
How do you know our "young lads are hungry and have no fear"?
Our best young player Rushian Hephburn Murphy seems more interested in a contract he's done nothing to yet deserve than playing
Being young does not equate to being good. Or indeed to having the right attitude
We need quality players in the side who can cope with the rigours of the league we are in
Throwing in a bunch of kids on the basis that "it couldn't hurt" is plain foolish
It could hurt; a lot. It could hurt us as a club and most likely the potential careers of the kids themselves

13 Jan 2017 18:15:23
I agree walkthewalk, posted the very same weeks ago.
Makes me laugh when people on here say our youngsters are not old enough or experienced enough.
Jerall Sellars, Grealish, etc all older than Dele alli, its a bit of a joke really.
We need to wake up a bit as a club, this is not an attack on the set up we now have, but I hope we don't fall into our usual ways.

13 Jan 2017 18:17:27
Agree Flacks not being funny but you look at Dele Ali and Dier of spurs all great youth players and in a totally different league to our youth players all about the same age we need to get out of this league not experiment with youth maybe if we get back to the promised land and stabilise by becoming a mid table team for first season back then give them a chance see what they are made of

13 Jan 2017 18:18:41
Agree Mendex

13 Jan 2017 18:29:21
We have tried "experienced players" "ready for action" players ie. Gestede, Mc Cormack, Ephick, Ayew Jedinak plus all of last year's other failures and where has it got us. Someone has the audacity to suggest a different approach and he is shot down in flames, the whole culture needs changing include those views of the die hard fans.

13 Jan 2017 19:05:10
You think "throw the kids in" is a different approach?
It comes up every couple of months as a silver bullet to cure all our ills

13 Jan 2017 19:34:11
Well if it comes up every couple of months Mendax, and still hasnā€™t been tried surely it`s about time we changed the record mate.
Remember Hanson, back in 95 with that famous quote.

13 Jan 2017 20:35:52
Oh for Godsake
Do you really think we have a crop of youth players to match United's in 95.
Let me guess, your response will be we'll never know if we don't give them a chance.
You could apply the same logic to us playing the womens team

13 Jan 2017 20:47:06
Kienan Davies, Green both played against Spurs, RHM has got the same attitude as Gabby, Sellars had a poor loan spell, Toner played a load of the final games last season. If youth was the answer then Bruce would be playing them, and when their ready they will be played. This is nearly as stupid as the "Kozak is the answer" brigade.

13 Jan 2017 21:12:42
Thank you Chris. Sanity at last

13 Jan 2017 21:20:44
No I donā€™t think that at all mate, I used it as a reference, and there is no need to ā€œoh for godsakeā€ me.
I have an opinion, and that opinion is we donā€™t use enough of the young players we produce, and if that is ok with you I will continue to do so.
I stick by my words and think we should use more fringe players, and if I have not responded how you predicted I apologise.

13 Jan 2017 21:34:30
Dave no need to get like that mate, oh for god sake ent that bad come onšŸ˜‚ To put it into context just remember for every Gareth Barry there's 10 Chris Herds. Grealish shows that if their good enough they will play.

13 Jan 2017 21:29:23
How was he shot down in flames? Asked a question, get an answer!
It's what grown ups do!

And to throw in 'we tried that before. '

Perhaps we could try the ladies team? A whole new approach?

13 Jan 2017 22:42:15
Chris, get like what mate, I just like to be able to make a point without someone trying to make it sound as if I am a dam idiot.
I was even told how I would respond before I did, look I donā€™t mind banter, but donā€™t make people out to be bloody fools.
They are played if they are not good enough as well Chris, Gabby a prime example.
I firmly believe you would get a better goal return from Sellars, or R, H. Murphy over 20 games than you would from Gabby.

13 Jan 2017 23:17:50
RHM maybe but 1. His attitude is probably worse than gabbys and 2. The way they play Gabby it's because his a lump an offers some form of physical presence (so would a jcb but hey ho) so I don't think RHM being the size he is and type of player would get a chance unless we played him in a 2. That sellars sounds to me like another delfounso etc, score shed loads at youth an unless in the real thing, had an awful loan spell and he's been around the first team since Sherwood but hasn't been given a chance under 6 managers.

13 Jan 2017 23:52:45
Villadave, I agree with your last point. You would get a better return from a youth team player than you do from Gabby. The issue for me however, is that Gabby is not good enough for our youth team rather than our youth team is good enough for the the first team.
As for the Oh for Godsake quote, that was a measure of my exasperation with this whole oft repeated argument in general rather than any ham-fisted attempt to make you in particular appear stupid and I apologise unreservedly if you felt otherwise.
I often agree with you so clearly I don't think you are a damned idiot

14 Jan 2017 06:17:33
Seems pretty simple to me. The talent will naturally rise to the top. Dele Alli keeps being mentioned but he was getting played regularly years ago in league 1 and smashing it because he had the talent. So he got noticed by pretty much all the bigger clubs, got his move to Spurs and rose to the top again.

If we had players like that they would be getting played and to an extent we have with Grealish. We obviously haven't got anyone the coaching team thinks is better than the players in the first team - Which is sad : (

14 Jan 2017 10:37:46
Does any remember it was Lambert who first made a move for Alli?
I think it forced Tottenham, s hand when we made a bid.
Our recent history could have been a lot different if we'd managed to get him.

14 Jan 2017 11:06:01
I never knew that! Shows you our luck!

14 Jan 2017 13:31:50
Thank you for that Mendax, apology accepted.
I appreciate people getting frustrated at posts that cover the same ground over and over again, the only reason I responded as I did was because I was only agreeing with another posters point.
You are a well respected member of this site mate, and I include myself in giving that respect, I agree with most of your statements on here, but not all of them.
That is how it should be is it not
In this instance I disagree with you, so for the sake of sanity as you put it I think we should leave it at that, agreed.

14 Jan 2017 14:00:10
Absolutely mate. If I'm being brutally honest I did read that bit where I anticipated your response and think "I shouldn't have said that"
What's worse, I'm teetotal so I can't even blame the drink!

14 Jan 2017 14:12:58
Hahaha, No hard feelings mate.

14 Jan 2017 16:30:20
Mendax, it is well documented there are many reasons why men take to drink one of which is "to forget". You poor so and so, those of us who drink won't remember all of the bad times associated with our beloved club you however have copped the lot! and that ain't fair in my book.

14 Jan 2017 23:59:14
I never thought I'd say this Hopeful. But, you make a good argument for me taking to the bottle
Only trouble is I might start posting like Kingvilla.
