Bailey due to play, according to his Dad.

1.) 28 Aug 2021 10:20:56
Don't know how I feel about that.
We all know what's going to happen.

Dad says I can play football
He'll then get called in for tea.
Takes his ball home with him
Screws it up for the rest of us.

Great result. Poor first half, again, and yet another disgraceful misinterpretation of the rules by the VAR official.

Sorry Villa56 whilst I think the law is bloody stupid as Goalkeepers seem to get more protection and support from officialdom than any other outfield player, the rule as it stands was correctly interpreted by the official after checking via VAR and the goal was correctly chalked off.

Well we can agree to disagree, I suppose, but the text I read stated that immediately after a save, or a rebound from the goalkeeper one hand wasn't enough.

Looking at the training photos, seem's like Dougie might be fit.

Fingers crossed mate, we have missed him, and Bert I think we have missed and I rate him more than Buendia tbh, a midfield of maginn, Doug and marvellous has both an air of defence about it and also the ability to attack with maginn and dougie, I didn’t think Ramsey contributed much against Brighton but he’s still developing and has great potential over the next few years, I think he can be a sure starter every week in a year or 2 but I don’t think he’s there yet

Ramsey runs with the ball though. None of the other midfielders do that. A bit like Barclay when he plays well, and he is a bit more consistent than Barclay. Just needs to develop his eye for goal.

I like Dean Smith. If we are to get a manager of the calibre of Alex Ferguson, Arsen Venger or Pep Guardiola we have to grow our own. He's a Villa fan and wants to play attacking football. What's not to like. I am genuinely concerned that if he can't grow with us who else will we get?

He seems to be the unluckiest manager in the premier league. Preseason disrupted by opponents C.V. outbreak, losing players to international breaks and having to quarantine and now more C.V. and other unspecified issues within the team. It's always bad news. Am I the only one thinking it's wearing a bit thin?

We could have had two or three preseason games against premier league opposition so if one was affected by C.V. we could still have got some competitive game time. We could have signed another quality goalkeeper so that Emi didn't feel he could do whatever he liked and still walk into the team. Instead we sign Ings, who doesn't really fit. Not to mention Axel.

What happened before today's game? We don't know. Is Ings injured, or has he fallen out with DS because he was dropped? Has DS fallen out with Sanson over game time? Who knows? All I know is it's not together. Our motto is 'prepared', yet we always seem anything but.

The season was over at Watford on the opening day. We all knew that but didn't want to believe it. A team with top six ambitions would not concede three in the first half against anyone, anywhere. It smacks of not being prepared.

For me it is now time for change. Dean Smith has not managed well off the pitch or on it this year. We have owners that have already demonstrated they are amongst the very best. We need to take the next step.

There is a question mark over his character as well. I'm not too disappointed that we seem to have moved on. He would have cost a lot too. It's all money we can't spend elsewhere with FFP.

I saw it too. If we had signed Papa Mata Sarr it might be believable. But we didn't. As it stands we don't need to sell, do we? Can't see him going even for twice that.

Some very tidy finished on his highlights reel. Definitely an upgrade on El Ghazi.

I don't think Deano rates him that highly. We've been linked with Benrama for long time now, and it surely would have happened by now if DS really wanted him.

For me Targett almost looks like he doesn't believe in himself. I think he will be happy as cover as it's less pressure. I think if we get a good offer and he wants to go we will let him. We also have Ashley Young and I'm sure we have been linked with other young left backs recently so may go in for one of those in the summer if we need to.

I think we should bite their hands off.

I expect us to sit deep early and try and counter quickly. We can’t afford to let them score. I predict Ings or Watkins on the counter after 40 mins or so and a late second from Ramsey or one of the subs to round off 2-0. Hause vs Toney will be the key battle.

For me, Raj, Lucas Digne always looked the weak link in the Everton team, and I'm not surprised he's fallen down the order. I hope the rumours are not true. We should strengthen in the wing back areas, but I think we can do better.

As for Loftus Cheek, good player, but we just don't need him.

Injury prone, off field antics, you can't build a team round that. If he came back next season would he expect to be centre of attention again, to the detriment of the rest of the squad?

I was sorry he left, I genuinely believed he wouldn't. In hindsight he was in the perfect place for him, but he couldn't see it. If he had stayed there could have been statues, but instead he gets trophies that he contributed to, slightly.

I do feel sorry for him, but he engineered the move, and would have gone to Man United, and even Spurs earlier if he could have. Aston Villa got the best of the deal, £100m, and we have moved on. I for one do not want too see him in Villa shirt again, though I do wish him well. He will at least get the trophies and Champions League football he craved so badly.
