Benrahma close to West Ham move according to reports. Deal close to £30m! Fairplay to him. Deserves opportunity in Prem. Just wonder whether we'd have been better with him rather than Traore? Only time will tell on that.

Johnnydixon3

1.) 11 Oct 2020 15:40:37
I don't think Deano rates him that highly. We've been linked with Benrama for long time now, and it surely would have happened by now if DS really wanted him.

2.) 11 Oct 2020 16:33:02
I also wonder if the protracted negotiations with Brentford for Watkins has put us off a bit.

To be honest, if am not sure where we would find a space up front now. Barkley’s arrival in midfield pretty much leads to Grealish staying out left. With two/ three options available down the right, only back up vacancies to strengthen cover for Grealish and Watkins appear to be left.

3.) 12 Oct 2020 09:19:22
I'm absolutely gutted he we haven't got him - I don't rate Traore and King much at all, it was Benrahma for me all the way. Delighted to see him given the opportunity in the Prem.

I would also be absolutely delighted to be wrong about Traore :D.

4.) 12 Oct 2020 12:05:49
Traore, by all accounts, was a Lange pick.

He does offer versatility, having played centre foward a fair bit and achieving a 1 in 3 goal scoring record. However, I am not sure of his true merit either. Perhaps a review come Christmas?

5.) 12 Oct 2020 12:50:07
Give the kid a chance to settle 1st don't forget the French league was cancelled due to C.V., so therefore he may be a little behind regarding match fitness/ sharpness. I for one feel he's a good signing and played at a decent level.

6.) 12 Oct 2020 14:14:02
Oh yes, definitely give him a chance. Some players blossom when the time is right and maybe this is his time now.

7.) 12 Oct 2020 23:37:56
Trez for me all day.

8.) 12 Oct 2020 23:42:31
You guys are mad, traore looks amazing to med that goal he scored in the cup wow. And if your judging him against stoke he can't do it on his own that team was set up to play the reserves who lost on purpose because they are angry about not being 1st teams. Traore is top class.

9.) 14 Oct 2020 16:19:04
Benrahma largely plays off the left hand side. and cannot cover CF. At half the price, Traore better fills the gap in our squad for a genuine left-footed attacker. He’s just scored in both of his international appearances, and the flashes he’s shown in his league cameos suggest there’s a real talent there.

With Barkley taking the more central role some of us thought Jack might play. Jack looks set to mainly play left side and drifting in, which is where Benrahma would best fit. So I just don’t think there’s a role for him in our strongest 11. He’d provide excellent depth, and an upgrade on AEG. but £30m is a lot for a squad player.

King might offer better value if he could be signed for £15m, and he’s a more versatile option imo.

10.) 14 Oct 2020 21:11:23
I think you are right Ant, insofar as King fits our currents needs. I can’t see West Ham picking King up if Benrahma’s signature is secured. All recent reports suggest funds were tight at the Hammers, but moving Anderson out on loan might have eased things a little.

The other player I still wonder that might interest Smith is Buendia. If there is movement, probably with Lansbury moving to the Championship, I just wonder if an eleventh hour bid might be made for the Norwich man?

05 Oct 2020 08:45:58
Rashica transfer look8bg unlikely according to reports.

Johnnydixon3

1.) 05 Oct 2020 09:29:24
Smith said after the game, not happening.

2.) 05 Oct 2020 10:11:02
Good, leave him where he is.

3.) 05 Oct 2020 10:35:23
The one thing I will say about this Rashica move is what I said about the Barkley move Purslow at the start of last week said no more incomings few days later Barkley arrives. So even though smith said No don’t be surprised if we do end up doing some business not saying it be Rashica but I think something will happen.

4.) 05 Oct 2020 10:39:20
Back up striker, need to keep our championship striker on his toes 😉

UTV.

5.) 05 Oct 2020 11:26:16
Think we need to move players on first if any more are to come in. Wouldn't be surprised to see a late move for benrahma if we make space in the squad. But ideally I'd like back up defenders for mings/ konsa and targett.

6.) 05 Oct 2020 13:36:16
We still have till the 16th to sign players from English sides. So no rush for benrahma, rashica for me is a better player. But looking very unlikely to see him in the claret and blue of villa.

7.) 05 Oct 2020 16:26:37
Some of the most credible journalists out there are pushing the Rashica to Villa story. Really stepped up again the last couple of days. And Smith didn’t say ‘no’. he said he didn’t know if there’d be more incomings, but they are working hard on outgoings. Watch this space. After last night it’s easy to say we don’t need a player like Rashica. Where would he play etc. But our bench isn’t strong enough and we don’t want to be stuck with injuries and no options like last year.

8.) 05 Oct 2020 16:27:03
The rumour on Rashika is still kicking around from various sources. I've just been on flightradar24 and was getting quite excited tracking a private jet coming in from Bremen. Sadly it looks to be heading for somewhere in the south-east.

9.) 05 Oct 2020 17:39:26
Raschica apparently signed for Bayer Leverkusen.

10.) 05 Oct 2020 18:03:17
That’s what Bham Mail are saying.

11.) 05 Oct 2020 18:11:47
Right guys we move on then, the lad seems to have got what he wanted.

12.) 05 Oct 2020 18:16:11
Obviously giving liverpool an ass whuppin and being 2nd is below him 😂😂😂.

13.) 05 Oct 2020 18:39:41
Personally I think we moved on from him a while ago.
All the links with him were caused by his club and agent trying to get a good deal on him.

14.) 05 Oct 2020 18:55:31
You could be right there Aka.

15.) 05 Oct 2020 19:02:47
Raschica deal to Leverwotever has fell through in the past few minutes

UTV.

16.) 05 Oct 2020 19:38:43
Surprise Surprise.

17.) 05 Oct 2020 20:03:22
Smith told reporters last night specifically we weren’t one of the teams in for Rashica. Now his move has fell through last minute maybe his agent will come running with lowered demands looking for a move, however as of last night it wasn’t on the table. Percy, Nixon, Evans, Preece - non of the usual suspects have said a peep, think this has just been false hype on the deadest of deadline days.

18.) 05 Oct 2020 20:24:14
If he comes crawling on all fours he should be told to bugger off we don’t need or want him.

11 Aug 2020 22:15:50
Please don't tell me we're linked with more championship players. Natty Cash! Come on we need to be aiming a little higher than that. Don't want Joe Lolley either. Ollie Watkins is untried in Prem and would be a huge gamble at £25m+.
I know some on here will quote Vardy but he's 1 in a thousand and didn't cost Leicester anywhere near what Brentford want for Watkins.
I'm afraid we need a bit of luck where signings are concerned. Someone who will cost 10 - 15m and will out perform all expectations. A 1 in a thousand signing.

Johnnydixon3

1.) 12 Aug 2020 19:00:47
AC Milan bid for Matty cash last summer, surely your not judging a player by the league they are in or how much they will cost? Where did McGinn come from?

2.) 13 Aug 2020 11:46:52
Judging by our record in recent years it seems to me the value for money option has worked out better. McGinn was one such player. What about the others though? Trezeguet? Nakamba? Targett (hardly a bargain though) .
If I knew how to sign and then coach a winning team I wouldn't be here posting.
£140m spent last year and what do we have to show for it? Prem survival, just.

31 Jan 2020 18:28:33
Borja Baston!
Can't say I know anything about this fella but I cannot believe this is anything but a last minute panic buy. If true and he signs I hope he is a success but really, Borja Baston!

Johnnydixon3

1.) 31 Jan 2020 18:50:14
He is on the way to Villa Park for a medical.

2.) 31 Jan 2020 18:57:10
All in all it’s a pathetic jan window
Makes it worse is when teams like Sheffield Utd are spending 22 million on a quality young player and West Ham 20 million on Bowen who’s class.

We get Samatta and baston.
Our recruitment team / scouts are s##t.

3.) 31 Jan 2020 19:02:41
If he does the business Johhny, I don`t care if he is a panic buy, or a buy one get one free buy.
He will do for me, I am optimistic and you never know he could be a gem.
I have no doubt the knockers will be getting ready.

4.) 31 Jan 2020 19:13:56
You need to chill Malc.
Are you a pessimist mate, because you are complaining without evidence.

5.) 31 Jan 2020 19:19:31
Apparently Suso knew him from his early days. We'll see. Let's hope Suso has earned his money with this left field pick.
At least he's a striker and you never know, these things can come off.

6.) 31 Jan 2020 20:02:21
Prep for championship.

7.) 31 Jan 2020 20:13:38
Whatever happens with the rest of the season good or bad, Suso as sporting director has not in my opinion earned the significant salary he has taken. I would be very surprised if he is still with us next season.

8.) 31 Jan 2020 20:26:01
Villadave listen to what the Swansea fans are saying
“ a Spanish Connor Wickham”
You telling me that you are happy with our signings this window?
End of the day our recruitment has been shocking since the summer and the one factor that every relegated team has is poor recruitment.
£140 million on 12 plus signings averaging around 10 million per player in the premiership is piss poor.

9.) 31 Jan 2020 20:29:30
Dub. do you really have no faith in our side?

10.) 31 Jan 2020 20:49:22
Malc, no I am not over the moon with this latest signing nor Drinkwater, but Samatta I am very happy with him.
As far as what the Swansea fans think I don`t give a rats arse what they think.
If you are taking notice of what they thinking, well they think Swansea are better than Villa, how do you feel about that?

11.) 31 Jan 2020 20:53:22
No not really
End of the day if your players aren’t up to scratch then you deserve what you get.
What have the following teams all got in common?
Wolves
Sheffield Utd
Leicester
All have great recruitment and scouts

What do the following have in common
Aston Villa
Everton
West Ham
All have poor recruitment.

12.) 31 Jan 2020 20:55:49
You know, we shouldn't pre-judge, for all we know this could prove to be a master stroke. He had an excellent season with Eiber in la Liga a few seasons ago, scoring 18 goals in 36 matches.
It could be that he just didn't fit in with Swansea's style of play. He is described as being an excellent finisher but lacks pace.
On the face of it, it's underwhelming, I must admit I would have preferred Bowen, but hey, give him a chance, you just never know.

13.) 31 Jan 2020 21:19:30
Pointless debating any further Mate.
Again I reiterate, I will not judge until I have seen the product.
Not over one or two games or hear-say.

14.) 31 Jan 2020 21:23:57
Not the most inspiring signing in the world but he adds some cover up front and he’s free.

15.) 31 Jan 2020 21:24:54
Paperwork is complete, just medical to be done and he will be a Villa player. Personally I will be interested to see how he gets on. If he scores or creates a few goals and gains us a few more points then I will be happy.

16.) 31 Jan 2020 21:27:22
Damn right mate it is what it is yes we're a big club by history and other stuff but at the moment we're not we are a new prem team and have to build again by staying in this league and being competitive every season then we will get back to where we all should be pushing for top7 only if we get our scouting right.

17.) 31 Jan 2020 21:28:52
Thought I was on my own Mark, well said mate.

18.) 01 Feb 2020 02:12:12
This Baston has a poor record over the last 5yrs so I’m not impressed at all.
Struggled in the championship and already failed in the prem after Swansea paid big money for him.

Easy to say give him a chance but we can afford to take chances on players like him.
This Suso was supposed to have the contacts and pulling power to get good pedigree footballers into the club.
that isn’t happening so what’s the point of him being there!? I could have called Swansea and offered them a tenner and they’d have ripped my hands off for him.

Absolutely mugged off!

19.) 01 Feb 2020 10:26:24
You are entitled to your opinion Shane, but that is rubbish mate.
Ian Wright, Klose, And Drogba were producing the same sort of form until they were given a chance.

20.) 01 Feb 2020 14:03:17
Peter Withe springs to mind as well. He wasn't a big achiever when Cloughie signed him, when he was 25. I dare say there were more than a few Forest fans who raised their eyebrows and were underwhelmed at the time.
2 league titles and 2 European cups later, I wonder how many Forest fans were critical of him signing Withe then.

21.) 01 Feb 2020 16:58:44
I'd also like to point out that he is a free transfer so that officially makes Suso an infinitely better negotiator than Shane who'd have paid a transfer fee.
Extrapolation means we've probably saved around £1billion having Suso in charge rather than Shane. Good business if you ask me.

22.) 02 Feb 2020 06:03:25
Yeah call me out on the tenner comment that’s a great way to win the debate lol

Wright Klose scored goals everywhere they went so I don’t quite get what you’re saying?
Football now isn’t like the 70s-80s- 90s where clubs could go sign a ‘nobody’ or an untested player from non league football or from a poorer club an turn him in to a star. Just doesn’t happen nowadays.
Bastón is not a Vardy/ Wright. He has had 5yrs of doing absolutely tosh, chance after chance! Failed! where’s the positivity coming from? He’s proven to be useless for 5yrs lol.
Swansea have been desperate to get rid of him for all of them 5yrs, loaning him out and eventually giving him a free transfer. How are all them facts not giving you lot any cause for concern. Unbelievable! Dreamers!

23.) 02 Feb 2020 11:19:43
Chill Shane chill, no need to worry mate.
I had a premonition last night.
It's the last game of the season and we need 3 points to stay up, right. It's 0-0 with 5 minutes to go.
In desperation Deano throws Baston on.
Minutes later Jack tries his luck from outside the box. It looks like it's going wide but it hits Baston on the backside, sends the keeper the wrong way and ends up the wrong way. Villa stay in the premier league. lol.

24.) 02 Feb 2020 11:55:34
Sorry, I meant to say the ball hits Batson on the backside sends the keeper the wrong way and the ball ends up in the back of the net .
Too much red wine . lol.

El Ghazi is so underrated. Traore could learn so much from him. His holdup play, workmate and finishing.
Yes he's a confidence player but he's so good when he's on it.

Johnnydixon3

1.) 16 May 2021 12:59:57
To think we’d probably let him go and hope for £5M at best for him in January, now he’s knocking on the door for Holland (probs why he’s playing better) and apparently Jose wants him at Roma next year, it’s a funny old game. 👴🏼

UTV.

2.) 16 May 2021 14:16:10
I thought he was a bit wasteful today, played some good stuff but decision making let him down at times. great haul of goals for the season, if he has more improvement in him he could be really great.

25 Apr 2021 20:14:20
What a start to the 3nd half!
Too many players coasting through this game. Not good enough.
No good looking at this performance on a Monday morning, it is poor so far.

2nd half!

25 Apr 2021 20:02:27
2 soft penalties. We've played the better football but they've had some good chances.
Would love to see big Wes come on.
Traore not offering much.
Barkley more lively than we've see for a while.
Like to see Philogene-Bidace come on too.

Referee has been far too fussy, for both teams liking.

Reports stating Chelski want £40m.
No thank you not at that price. £20m sounds more realistic.
To be honest he has more average games than very good ones and that isn't worth forking out £40m imo.

Given his performance last weekend I'd be disappointed if he did leave but then again if we got decent money it would soften the blow.
Hope he stays and shows same qualities as Saturday.

He was named in their match day squad today but guess he won't feature now.
Good business.
Where does that leave Ramsey? Send him out on loan to Championship?
We've got 8 or 9 players ahead of him in now so can't see much point keeping him for rest of this season. Pity I rate the kid.

If we signed Rashica I think we would play 3 in midfield. Luiz, Mcginn and Barkley. Grealish wide, Rashica would play same as Grealish but opposite flank. Watkins up front. I think Traore and Trezeguet would be on the bench or not depending on performances.
Anyway we're getting ahead of ourselves. Not signed him (or Benrahma) yet.

It was a performance which possibly defined where we are in terms of our position in the league. Can be brilliant and play teams off the park but we can be equally bad and get dominated by poorer opposition.

I'd like to have seen at least 2 substitutions made before the hour mark to give us some impetus back. Changing 1 then 2 more with less than 5 mins left it feels as though we're relying on something to break for us. Just tinkering.
Davis coming on in the last 5 minutes goes to show how highly the management rate him or trust him.

Would like to have seen Chukwuemeka given a go. Ramsey struggled today.

Flip flops and beach towels at the ready folks.

Season's all but over for us anyway. Yet another summer of spending big. Honestly, who'd be an owner of a football club?

It's difficult to criticise Deano too much, promotion, avoid relegation and a promising 1st half season.
The 2nd half has been punctuated with C.V., injuries, suspensions and Grealish missing 20% of the season.
I do wonder how long the ambitious owners will stick with him though. It's going to take another summer of major surgery in the transfer market.
I think his position will be under review for the 1st 10 games of next season.
I'm torn between being happy just to be in the Prem and being disappointed that we've fallen so dramatically in the last 12 games.
