Edd, can somebody explain what chelsea are doing, why are they buying so many players on such long contracts, will they get there return from. It in the future because it doesn't look like a here now sort of plan,

Irishvillian

{Ed002's Note - They have added 10 players but 15 have left. There are further departures coming at the rate of perhaps one a day, and there are two planned additions currently - perhaps three. Longer contracts protects value.}

Here my 2pence worth on the debate of if we deserve to go down or not, my opinion is yes we do a couple of reasons
1 Our whole game is based on Jack since football has come back he dosent seem to be at it all, he loses the ball and puts his hands his hips (anyone see the spurs game last night what happened with son and the keeper because son didn't track back) there Not fighting for there life's
2 Jack knows he has a move regardless what happens to us so is giving 100% ( I don't think so not half the player he was at the beginning of the season
3 we are relying on Davis now to get us goals to keep up this is somebody who is still learning his trade and never scored a prem goal we didn't we didn't we buy a proven striker in January or even a loan
4 since the lockdown 1 player is giving every thing for the cause luiz covering the ground and putting in a shift for the full 90 mins
5 our recruitment in the summer was shocking we baught 3 centre halfs when it should of been Cahill and mings we should have prompted 1 of our youth's
6 our wingers are like headless chickens el Ghazi hardly put fear into the championship defender's last season jota I'd is pinching himself I'd say he can't believe he can call himself a prem player
Go down rebuild it may take a season or 2 to get a hungry squad that wants to put in the hard yards just like Sheffield
Don't get me wrong here I want us to stay up but does this squad deserve to, no not for me
We needed to buy Cahill, Ings, benrahma, lolly, and 2 good wing backs
My last opinion on the game on Sunday I don't think we played that well because do you really think Liverpool were 100% at it, no hope there minds are already on the beach they boys there Sandles on already, we huffed and puffed like we have done all season all bar 1 game against city in the final if they played the 5 games with that attitude we might have a chance.

I think you make some very good points IrishV, well done.
We have missed you mate, hope you are well.

2.) 07 Jul 2020 22:01:37
Thanks Dave, been reading here with interest, regards Deano getting the sack or not, some make very good points others are just here for the pics take and write something just for the sake of it,
My opinion is yes he stay next season if we go down let HIM bring the players he wants there will be a rebuild but isiant this What we do as a club getting wrong and start again, As a club aston villa has let the fans down go back 10-15 years ago you would look at fixture list to see when we played United Liverpool arsenal they were the teams that we struggled to beat not Burnley Norwich and the likes, We here so many of the big boys inside villa park talk about us been a big club the facts are we NOT anymore, big clubs stay at top United Liverpool Barcelona Madrid they might have a blip for a season or 2 but they climb back up, We are living of history the past we have done nothing or won nothing 25 yrs plus

Unless we stabilise as a club well then for me are going to be a yo yo club that's why smith needs to kept let him build something
O NEILL tried to build something Randy sold him out we were exciting to watch and just missed out on champions league maybe that could have been our turning point
Sherwood was another manager I like and did a good job with the players he had if smith gets the sack I'd like him to come in, because he will give our younger lads a go
Look at United how many youth players are in there squad this is a club that can go out and buy whoever they want Chelsea the same, is our youth set up that bad that we don't have a winger better than the 2 that start week in out, do we not have a young Hungary midfielder that will give more than drinkwater and lansbury why did we realise so many young players lately if they weren't going to make it why wasn't this spotted before now, as a club it's like we will try this and if it work if not sure will come up with something else.

3.) 08 Jul 2020 14:16:39
Very true IV, over the last few weeks we have pretty much touched on everything you have said, and I totally agree, we are a shambles again.
I would have to disagree on Sherwood being manager again, not enough experience for me, and his record is not good enough if we are to progress at all.

Curtin is going to drop soon on this mini league of survival for us, for Mcginn has to start he brings our midfield from 2 stars to 4 stars Jack will have an extra spring in his step because Mcginn is back there both on the same wave length, think back to last season when Jack came back it was like different team they rallied and pushed on, I'm hopeing Mcginn has the same influence, these last 10 games are big because if we go down it's a full rebuild maybe 3-4 seasons to get back up, IF we stay up I think we will finish in top 10 next season on go on from there with the wealth of our owners we can really push on, It's much a fine line, DO OUR DIE come on boys.

All this talk on the forums sell Watkins is stupid
Remember he started out as a winger and has got better each season bar this one, he started the season with an injury if he was a 2/1 goalscorer he wouldn't be playing with us it would be the likes of city/Barca/psg
We are all quick to jump on players back rather than have there backs, every player will hit a bad patch trough a season it's up to us fans to help them along
We have few cup finals come over the next few weeks so get behind the lads, and cheer them over the line, because this squad has the heart of lion and we will champions league again this season

1.) 04 May 2025 10:06:11
I think Watkins just pulls defenders out of position so much that he really is my No1 on the team sheet, to sell him would be ridiculous at the moment.

2.) 04 May 2025 12:08:10
Think what hasn't helped Watkins is coming out in the media about how angry he was questioning not playing and has turned in poor performances since.

3.) 04 May 2025 13:14:55
He shouldn't have said anything and i bet unai isn't happy aswell

4.) 04 May 2025 13:51:49
IV, I am one of those who thinks Ollie should be sold and it’s nothing personal I like Ollie, he works hard never gives centre halves a moment’s peace but at the end of the day a striker is judged by the number of goals they score and he doesn’t convert enough. As you say he started out as a winger and I don’t think he has that instinct of a natural finisher. Add to that we are a counter attacking team that doesn’t create a vast amount of chances we need a more clinical striker, in addition he is 29 years old and this is probably our final chance to get decent money for him and at the end of the day Aston Villa FC is a business as well as a football club so both from a football and economic perspective it makes sense to cash in now in my view.

5.) 04 May 2025 14:16:08
Id sell for 40/50mil

6.) 04 May 2025 21:59:52
Lotm you hit the nail on the head there with everything you said, he’s a top bloke, a top professional and he’s gives his all every game, it’s just his finishing let’s him down at times, he’s still had a very decent return with goals and assists this season but his age is coming against him, the age thing is the only real reason I would think of selling him.

Sky really trying to make a big deal with Ollies interview after the game,
Imagine where we would be if we had a fully fit squad for most of the season, and we played with the tempo we have played with the last 2-3 games
Cash has been brilliant the last 2 games, Mings was class yesterday never panicked when giving the ball and always had control of the situation
Youri best central midfielder in the league by far

Irishvillian

1.) 20 Apr 2025 11:37:03
IV, totally agree, however there is probably another side to the story, Ollie and Jamie Redknapp are good friends, Ollie obviously wanted to get his feelings across and Jamie was able to facilitate it. Players have to accept the manager will always have the final word. Ollie was definitely fired up yesterday, Emery may well say his selections have been vindicated. Totally agree about Tielemans player of the season for me.

2.) 20 Apr 2025 21:49:26
The only time take notice, is when they think they can create a crisis for Villa .

13 Apr 2025 10:18:20
What dis you guys make of Watkins celebration yesterday?
He point to the crest and then pointed to the ground,
My view is he was saying I'm here to stay I'm here to fight for my place in the team
I think Watkins should be starting on Tuesday he does so much more than Rashford, Watkins never gives a defender a minute were rashford just joggs to them
Malan has been flying pitty he can't play on Tuesday say emeri is kicking himself he picked Bailey over him

Irishvillian

1.) 13 Apr 2025 11:11:59
Rashford will play on left with ollie in middle rodgers on right

2.) 13 Apr 2025 11:20:55
We’re at home, the front 4 will be Watkins, Rogers, Rashford and Asensio

Something I don't understand, last season we were blowing teams away in the first 10-15 mins of games up until Xmas and then the results started changing scraping trough games barely making top 4 after been 2nd and 3rd for so long, We pressed high up the pitch, pressed in packs played a extremely high line and moved the ball with pace and purpose, this has all stopped since mid last season can anybody explain why,
Are now reserving our energy for 2 games a week, I know losing Dougie and diaby there goals has been hard to replace and put baileys goals to that aswell it's quite a lot goals replace,

Irishvillian

1.) 27 Jan 2025 14:18:31
Have to agree. To back that up
re: all of our league games in 2024 calendar year (37 games) = 16 wins, 10 draws and 11 losses.
First 19 games in 2023/24 season: 13 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses.
We have definitely changed something or maybe this is where we are?
It could be argued 37 games is a better indicator than 19 games of our capability.

To much to put on young shoulders, he should have been loaned to a championship team for the season let him get game time and goals.

Clearly there is both in it then mate, villa park was sold to another company of the owners as have city and Newcastle and many more do the same villa at the end of last season announced a 60 million loss after the sale, this is many reasons 1 such reason was the length of time we spent in the championship and the parachute paymeant was getting less each year, we had the likes of Richards Hutton and many more on big wages all of this was last year's tax year, Forward on a year and a lot has changed I'd say Jack on the biggest wage which is peanuts compared to orthers in the league, More tv money, villa park sold out until lockdown, look everybody has there views and opinions and mine are that we don't need to sell to buy a better quality playa, yeah we won't be buying anywhere near the amount of players we did maybe 3-4 better type players.

Eds why would villa have to pay money back for broadcasting I was 109% sure it worked the other way, and on another note I don't appreciate the name calling, the eds on this page are the only ones I here mentioning villa and ffp rules it's strange, when smith siad yesterday there is money to spend and it will take a huge offer for the club to sell Jack so that would suggest to me there not worried about Ffp only the eds.

Irishvillian

{Ed002's Note - So Aston Villa are also run by idiots as well then if they are not worried about FFP. One wonders why the owners sold Villa Park to hide losses? There is no point you discussing anything to do with finances as you simply don't get it.}

I don't understand the ffp rules I never stated that I do edd, u siad that money will have to come from somewhere hardly selling the likes of lansbury etc is going to generate a lot of money I'm not been smart here but isiant there a substantial amount of money for staying in the league tv money etc.

Irishvillian

{Ed002's Note - Aston Villa have to pay money back for this season's broadcasting. You really need to put aside any thoughts of money.}

So edd what you are saying is we need to sell likes of grealish mings Mcginn Heaton, to generate money to buy, I don't see this happening with the ffp been relaxed and the supposed 100m plus for staying up I think there will be plenty to spend has city not just got passed the ffp rules, oh and there is the fact of having billionaire owners there aswell.

Irishvillian

{Ed002's Note - Obviously I did not say that and you are clearly an idiot. You also don't understand FFP nor the situation with Aston Villa. There is no £100M plus for staying up. FFP has been "relaxed" to allow clubs to ease their problems not spend for the sake of it. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Manchester City. And it certainly has nothing to do with how much money the owners have. Try not to embarrass yourself further.}

I'd hold on to him, I think the sky is limit for Rogers his pace, power, and ability to go past people and nothing seems to phase him, there isiant another player like him in the prem at the moment, Ramsey and Bailey are two I'd ship out

Whack mings might not be as good as pau with the ball at feet, but he far better in under high balls, and covers ground a lot quicker,

Cash is and has been a scapegoat for a while now, I personally rate him and when he isiant playing we are a lot weaker, because we loose our best centre half to go right back, I'm bot saying cash is the best right back in the league but he certainly isiant worst

I have just noticed Watkins trying to get them to push up a few times over the last few games,
Anybody know when cash is back, we are a weakened team with konsa out right he ain't no rwb, And is badly missed in the center, I think Sunday will decide whether we have had a good start or not, on paper and form we should beat them but they are prone to getting the decisions in there favour, Pau and Bailey need to find there form of last season, Youri and Rogers has been brilliant so far
