L'Equipe are now reporting that the fee for El Ghazi was significantly less than originally reported at around 5m euros. Which in my opinion is a very good bit of business. Of course this is still unofficial and it will likely be sometime before we really know what the details of the deal are, but if true, it's another piece of very shrewd business.
I also have a 'friend of a friend' rumour that Villa are looking at signing Mings AND another established CB (I'd love Cahill for a season or two), as well as two marquee signings, one being a forward and one being a centre midfielder.
Reading between the lines it would seem they're focussed on topping up the squad with young and hungry players and putting in bigger bids to establish a solid core. Time will tell but all the signs are positive so far.

Hi DJC, you are reiterating something that I've heard from someone who allegedly works in the football business. Apparently there is a list of 20 players who are wanted by "the club" over the next 3 transfer windows. He has also heard 4 deals are in ongoing discussions, and that others have been or are in the process of being submitted.

Only telling you what i have heard. May be BS, but based upon the performance of the club since promotion, it looks like we have a management team who mean business.

Definitely feels like we actually have a strategy in place and we're working hard to give ourselves a fighting chance in the prem. Not counting any chickens just yet though.
It's also slightly fortunate timing to get promoted leading into a season that ends in a major international tournament - generally speaking it means slightly higher calibre players become available with the need for regular football to make international squads. Fingers crossed!

3.) 11 Jun 2019 20:39:50
Nothing fortunate DJC, it means slightly elevated prices as well.

4.) 11 Jun 2019 23:04:55
Hi Villadave, disagree slightly on that front as inflated prices usually follow after a major tournament has taken place rather than before it, but the point I was making was more about the increased likelihood that premiere league/ top level players who aren't currently getting regular game time will be more inclined to consider transfers this summer when trying to ensure they make international squads. Hopefully something Villa can capitalise on like I say. Fingers crossed!

agree with you here DJC players on the fringe tend to want to drop to a lower team to get the game time to get that starting place. rose or chilwell at lb for England for instance rose could be open to a move to get the starting place he needs as chilwell is playing every week.

Sorry DJC, I see your point now, getting old mate.

I think it's a fair question asked by Villa4eva.
Like most of us, I'm really excited by all the new signings and looking forward to being back in the prem. but there is a nagging doubt that we haven't really signed many players that I could say, without doubt, are prem standard. Almost all have the potential to be (in my view) but potential has to be realised. Even McGinn could get found out in the prem, we just don't know. all we can do is enjoy the ride, encourage the team and hope they do well.

Could be a potential double deal with rumours also going around that we're looking a Hegazi too.
I'd prefer Cahill but this could be a decent bit of business if the fee is low. always looked decent whenever I've seen him play. who knows with all the paper talk going round at the moment!

Villa have put in a bid (apprently £15m) and are waiting for a formal response. I think he's also still on holiday due to being given extra time off following the play offs. He's reported as a priority so we just have to wait and hope the club see it over the line.
I think we want two CB's so these other links will hopefully be in addition, not instead of.

Already been pictures of him in and around Villa Park today, presumably to finalise the deal, have photographs taken and interview for the usual media announcement. So expect a formal announcement very soon!

Would hate to see O'Hare go before he's given a chance. Got bags of potential!

I don't think we've got to the stage of the season yet where any team can evaluate with any degree of accuracy. Teams are still getting into there stride and in particular the promoted teams. especially us with so many new players.
This is Villa's first game back in the prem for a while after only just getting into the playoffs. I think we need to remember that before we start tearing into the fitness, tactics etc. We've played several of last seasons top six already and we're not in the bottom three. We're not setting the world on fire and the wolves games was rubbish. but we're making a go of it and with a packed Villa Park behind them, this could be the foundational season we look back on in years to come from a much stronger position.

Totally agree that the many perspectives on the game are all part of the fun, but for me, I think we should stick with DS. We're aiming to build for long term stability, sustainability and success in the prem. We won't get that by panicking and changing managers every 20 games when form dips.

Agree it does seem a bit odd. apparently his knee was so bad that he could barely train for the last few seasons. would've thought they'd have come to some agreement to take early retirement if it was so bad. from his point of view though I can see why he dragged it out. no wonder he said 'the club looked after me' in his retirement interview!

In other news, looks like Mitch Clark has been signed up by Leicester. Always thought he looked decent. hope for his sake it works out but will be a bit annoying if this turns out like Cahill did!

Loving the optimism mate but we do need to keep in mind that these signings are young, POTENTIALLY good players.
As a few others have mentioned, there will be ups and downs while the team gels and develops over time.
Good managers/ coaches are often heard talking about not getting too high after a win or too low after a loss. something we as fans should probably apply to the transfer window too. Whatever happens this season, the young players will need support when it doesn't go to plan, so I just hope we all keep this optimism in mind while they find their feet.

Hi Villa_Kenn, my bad on the two goalkeepers comment, I was attempting to multitask and saw the Kalinic bit of your post and assumed you were recommending two keepers.
As I said, plenty of good suggestions so no offense meant.
You have to admit though it's pretty funny to suggest someone is a legend in the making irrespective of performances on the pitch. all meant in good spirits though, it's silly season on the transfer rumour front so we need to have a sense of humour with it :)
