After the headlines today replacing Luiz with Soucek seems like a sound move to me.

I'd be absolutely amazed if Soucek was available but if he is then Villa need to be all over it - Similar to Digne, if there is a chance we need to act, we surely can pay him what he wants and he'd add much needed physicality to our Midfield.

I notice that the well respected international football expert Jamie O'Hara ( who?) thinks that Arsenal should not pursue their alleged link to Ollie Watkins because he thinks that Arsenal are in his words a vut above Villa. I bet he did not think that when Ollie was ripping their defence a new one when we won 3-0 at the library. Unfortunately Jamie does not have a brain to engage before he opens the chasm that passes for his mouth.

I don't think Arsenal will be interested in Ollie, for the simple reason he is not a top six striker, there were spells towards the end of the season where he would have been on the bench if we had a striker good enough to challenge him, Ings is not that player to keep him out. I just hope we sign a quality striker, otherwise i think our season will be similar to last. Just remember how we dominated Spurs and fired blanks for 45. minutes with our current strike force.

I get what your saying Scotty but the $64000 dollar question is who? I don’t see anyone in the premiership who is likely to be available and want to join us who fits the bill, in terms of those linked Morelos isn’t good enough in my opinion and has significant disciplinary issues, Suarez is passed his best which means we need to look abroad. Personally I have long championed Patrick Schick from Leverkusen scores goals for fun in the Bundesliga and at international level but even so he’s untested at premiership level and would represent a significant risk given the size of the fee we would likely need to pay, my only other suggestion would be Tammy Abraham but I am not sure Roma would sell and I am not sure the ratio of goals scored against chances created is that good in the premiership so the whole thing is a bit of a conundrum I fear.

Not saying you guys are thinking this (it’s a general ‘Villa’ mentality)but we need a finisher, not someone you like personally, would let them date your sister, but scores 10ish goals a season, that we can sell on for a profit? With the exception of Kamara, the players we have bought, including Digne, will never make us a profit because of their age which leads me to think age makes no difference to Stevie G. We don’t need a hard working tracks back No9, we need an assassin that lives to score goals, if they do track back then that’s a bonus. Suarez ticks that box, Morelos too, but if I had the choice, do what we should’ve done 2 years ago, buy Mitrovic

Ally, I like Mitrovic and I agree with you that a couple of years ago he would have been an astute signing, but that was when we played with wingers and we got quality balls into the box,Gerrard doesn’t play that way and so I don’t think Mitrovic is the answer. There’s an argument to be had over Suarez but from what I have seen recently he isn’t the poacher he once was and as for Morelos we would spend too many games with only 10 players on the pitch when the game finished.

Have I got the wrong end of the following stick? I have read several reports whereby Archer has been linked with 14 different clubs and then that Gerrard will not loan him out this season. Surely he is not considering selling Archer? If so why when he is obviously ready for the first team while leaving us in a position where we can save a shed load of money by not paying silly money wages for an old Uruguayan with biting problems. Please someone tell me I do have the wrong end of this stick.

Thank you for clearing it up. I agree about the press if they cannot make it up they just resort to outright lies. Glad about Archer, I think he will be better than any of our strikers. He has a natural ability to score goals and given the chance will score loads for us.

I think Archer will be loaned out to Rangers as a sweetener for us landing Bassey, he will get at least the equivalent of Championship football plus some European nights to boot, a win win for all concerned I think

Apparently our alleged interest in Soucek is also cooling. Why it would when he is affordable is beyond me. I agree that it is worrying that our proposed signings are finding other avenues to pursue while we seem to have run out of breath in the transfers race.
