Deadly quite on here at min.

Eye before storm, or just given up? :(

Think its just the general feeling around the club currently mate, always quieter on the weekend if we don't play until the Monday but it is even quieter than normal all over the place regarding Villa right now, there's not much to say I guess. Nothing new on a manager, I'm sure that if we lose Mon night there will be a boom of comments on here.

There's always a surge when things are negative, I never really worked out whether Villa fans have become addicted to it over the last few years and it's the only time they react. Or whether its because on the rarity that Villa win now, everyone is so drunk or out celebrating/enjoying themselves they don't need the internet aha.

sorry to be picky but its either quiet before the storm which its all going to kick off or your in the eye of the storm which is shits happened its gone eerie quiet then about to kick off again.

i hope this new fella does the job, even if we just have a couple years of mid table then work from there. when i look at the squad i can't see why we are doing so bad, picking a first 11 fully fit we should be least half way. only downside is no goal scorer.

Given a chance, Kozak would be. I have no doubt

31 Oct 2015 22:25:35
i really want kmc to give him a run just to see, i don't see point in buying players like him and just leaving them to rot in reserves, i could understand if he was on bench and we just never brought him on but when he's not even making the 18 he's got to be getting peed off.

Especially after the pre season he had.

With KMc saying will be RG and only stalled because of back room staff seems a done deal at least on number 1 candidate! But we can all remember dead Certs of the past like Martinez.

Watching TV and it's looking more like garde will be the manager seems they are working on the backroom staff, it seems he is keen on the posistion but how soon he will be appionted (if) is anybodys guess i just wish they would hurry up and put me out my missery this is he or is'ant he, is stressing me out, let's get someone in geeze!

I still believe cesare prandelli is the man for us firstly he will make us soild at the back . He managed and played for some big clubs and the main thing is that he supports Aston villa .

Just seen on sky garde has cancelled all his pundit commitments for the tv this weekend could this be a sign things are progressing towards his appointment? let's hope things will be sorted soon!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

29 Oct 2015 13:20:49
Saw that on Sky this morning, hopefully it means he is flying over to look around. If so I'm guessing Lerner and Fox have sorted a deal for his assistants. All guess work atm but fingers crossed.

Papers this morning saying the sticking point is still with Lyon over the release of Bruno Génésio and Gérald Baticle. Question is, would Garde come without them and, if so, would he be as effective as we need him to be?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Oct 2015 06:50:03
don't think he will come without them I heard he turned down Newcastle and Sunderland for the same reason, I reckon something has been sorted with garde tho as he has cancelled his tv work for the weekend just wondering if villa are speaking to lyon about compo I just wish they would hurry up do what they gotto do and start to sort this mess out they got us into, I still believe we have what it takes to stay up and this will be the greatest escape ever. vtid.

28 Oct 2015 19:17:14
It's pretty shocking to think Kozak still can't get on the bench, yet was our best player in pre-season and scored goals for the reserves!

I'd have rather seen one of Gil, Grealish or Ayew start ahead of either Bacuna or Richardson for sure.

28 Oct 2015 19:19:12
Mayb Kmac will do a Sherwood, bring them on at half time and say he planned it all along!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2015 21:42:01
he probably phoned sherwood and asked him for his team selection!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2015 21:54:27
What a nightmare, played well first half however once again we couldn't do it over 90 minutes once again. Don't know where traore and Kozak were, we need to give everyone a try. I would have given Kozak and Gustede an opertunity together, then each could occupy a centre back!

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Oct 2015 08:34:17
When I saw the line up I was hoping that Kmac had decided to rest players for the league and just right off the cup as a distraction we don't need right now.

Garde deal stumbling because of problems over getting his back room staff out of their contracts is just another example of how the board are an absolute joke. Back room staff are a necessity, we should know first hand, Sherwood came in without Chris Ramsey and that undoubtedly didn't help his cause, so Garde seems to understand the importance of them, the board sack Sherwood under the assumption through word of mouth Garde is a dead cert to come and now as they didn't do proper investigation end up a laughing stock as per an we suffer with Pearson or someone similar.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

27 Oct 2015 14:07:50
If the board are serious about garde and think he is the man then they have no other choice than to go to lyon and ask how much compensation for his back room staff. I believe that is the reason Newcastle and sunderland didn't get him because he won't go without the people he feels can do the job with him, I say RL and TF dig deep for once and let's get our season back on track!

Agree3 Disagree0

27 Oct 2015 17:53:15
Your 100% right Ged, only thing is it's being reported Lyon won't even grant them permission to talk to them.

27 Oct 2015 11:48:10
Ok people we need a short term plan as we are bottom of the league and look like going down so lastnight i was talking to none other than peter withe villa legend an he said he would love the chance to manage aston villa he said he knows what it takes an short term could get us back to a reasonable side!

Believable1 Unbelievable3

27 Oct 2015 12:03:19
Hi Mike
I said last year we should have had a temp manager and I was shot down in flames, I still believe this is the way we should go although not sure about Peter Withe.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Oct 2015 06:35:37
I'm hearing Harry Redknapp's name popping up for the job?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - would you want someone who refuses to move away from his house in Sandbanks, Poole?? Mind he very rarely goes along to even watch players train, so it would make little difference I guess.}

27 Oct 2015 06:51:17
I Agree Ed, whoever takes the job on though will have one tough season ahead of them for sure. I don't like to choose between managers myself I find it difficult to pick a good one, you can manage a team like Man City and have plenty of success but for obvious reasons it does not mean that you will have the same success at Villa so I'm happy to wait and see what happens :-)

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - and it depends on the objectives, do you just want to avoid relegation and settle into midtable or do you want to build for a long term future strength of the club? As a long term outlook might see the club relegated in the short term, but end up with a club like Stoke City or Swansea City.}

27 Oct 2015 07:20:33
With the strong possibility that Villa will fail to escape the drop this season anyway, unless of course Harry Houdini takes over then I would have to say that the long term future of the club would be the best objective at this point, but having said that relegation would still be a bitter pill to swallow.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - do you think the fans would stand for it? Only they have pretty much turned against Randy Lerner now, would it be possible to do that with him as owner? I fear the club might pull itself apart if it got relegated under Lerner. In the short term at least. Then I would fear that Lerner would give up on it, even more than he already has done.}

27 Oct 2015 07:41:21
The club as been in trouble for some years Ed and like it or not it may well get a lot worse before getting better, I watched us playing third tier football many years ago but we rose back to the top eventually, in fact to the very top as European Champions so although we may have to endeavour bad times there is still plenty to smile about. In my time as a Villa fan we have won four League Cups, been crowned Champions, won the European Cup and the European super cup despite those bleak years and not many clubs have had that success over that period of time so I still feel humbled to have followed such a great club.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I can see where the old bit comes from in your name now then!}

27 Oct 2015 07:49:28
54 now Ed, old but not quite a relic Lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - nearly half Ed003's age then.}

29 Oct 2015 16:57:48
Guys, enjoyed your little back and forth here. I fear that villa are looking highly likely to go down but if I could maybe pull a silver lining out of it if it happens, of our current squad who's likely to jump ship or be snapped up by a premier league team next season? I could realistically only see grealish attracting suitors. What my point is is that if we do get relegated then the chances are that 90% of our squad will still be in place to develop together under the right manager. They may not be the best squad to ever grace a football pitch but maybe a season in the championship without the threat of relegation looming over them may allow them to gel into a cohesive unit capable, with a few wise additions, to get back into the PL and compete again. Look at the Newcastle team that got relegated and won promotion the following year! They were a solid team with good work ethic and played very well under "the right manager". Now I'm not saying Chris Hughton is the right manager for us but maybe if we can get the right man in now and allow him the time as fans, even if it is a season in the championship, to work with and mould a team to his philosophy then we can start to rebuild our club. I agree it would be gut wrenching to be relegated but I can't help but feel that it may not be the end of the world for us either.

ed as you say you fear the club might pull itself apart if it was relegated under Lerner but perhaps that may be the final straw for him to accept he will not get his full investment back and finally move on. Surely a strong competing team in the championship is a more attractive prospect for a long term investor than a struggling PL team?

Anyway, win lose or draw I wear my villa shirt with pride and pray that our beloved club can one way or another get back on track.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - can I just ask a question about Grealish, do you rate him? I have seen nothing regarding him to make me think he is going to ever amount to anything. He wastes possession so often, there is very little, if any, end product to his work and he doesn't look like he cares about that. It seems he just wants to look good, rather than play well.}

30 Oct 2015 14:18:54
Ed I agree that his end product is questionable but my point would be, as he shows potential and is British he will be taken from us.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - ah ok, so you are not particularly impressed either? I am trying to find anyone other than commentators who do rate him. The commentators go on like he is Best, Pele and Maradona rolled into one with a sprinkling of Messi, but my mates who are Villa fans think he is not good enough. Just wondered if my mates were in the majority or minority, as they are season ticket holders and go to every home match, so I would normally assume they would know better than the commentators, but anyone who buys a Villa season ticket these days must have suspect judgement! ;o)

26 Oct 2015 21:50:41
Garde wants his old team of coaches but they are under contract elsewhere and it will take money to get them out.
Looks like we will go for Moyes, not a bad thing, and if that fails then the bully Pearson must be the next in line. Ooh not sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Oct 2015 10:40:14
Those who are worried about Remi Garde taking the hot seat shouldn't be. I've heard that Villa are going to be talking to lots of managers at first then creating a shortlist of managers who have accepted the job.

I don't see why people are so scared of Remi Garde- he may not be proven in the PL but he did really well at a club with low funds and a lot of youth- ring any bells?

I still would prefer Moyes as he's proven and experienced in the PL. We've already tried an inexperienced manager and look how that turned out.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Garde is a really good guy.}

26 Oct 2015 10:52:54
Whilst there is a danger that Garde could be considered on-dimensional, i. e. has only managed one club, his record at Lyon was impressive. Out of 117 games in 3 seasons, he had a 51.2% win-rate, which is better than any Villa manager has ever achieved. If you combine the wins and draws, you get a 73.5% hit rate. Add to that one Coupe De France and one Trophee Des Champions, and you have a fairly high achiever.

Agree4 Disagree0

26 Oct 2015 12:31:23
I agree that he's a good manager but he doesn't have any experience in the PL, especially in the relegation battle.

There is a fine line between French Football and English Football.

Agree1 Disagree2

26 Oct 2015 13:55:51
Can't disagree with that - they've been in the Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and won the World Cup in the last 20 years, as well as winning the European Championship twice.

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Oct 2015 15:17:29
Whiles they have a good international record, Ligue 1 is much, much worse that PL. If you put Villa in Ligue 1 we would be 4,5,6 maybe higher.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Oct 2015 15:36:49
dosent have prem experience as a manager but does have as a player and as it's been said done very well with very little and has got the best out of the younger up and coming players very good tactically just might be the one these young players need but I guess any new manager is going to find it hard to turn things around even DM will.
Im just hoping some of these names on the list are just paper talk well we will have to wait and see and whoever it is get behind them and give them full support!

Who knows anymore, ayew dropped after best 45 against evil ones then 2 games running ehhh, bacuna/Hutton then Hutton/bacuna, then Clark midfield then dropped to bench instead lescot, Amavi dropped bench arguably best performer season so far bar couple mistakes, team has no cohesion, not one player has any idea week in week out, formation, tactics benching no frikken wonder were in the s*** as we are. Need stability a manager/controller. what the F happened to the TS last season with 10/15 games to go tried the steel approach hence dropping Gil excuse was needed leader/roughy approach. why the didn't you do that then when going got bad.

Remi being quoted on sky, bbc and French tv who he commentates on! If a serious contender from our board for manager then just shows the planet they live on! That planet obviously has no knowledge of our beautiful game and of AVFC! Why go from one exciting but untried manager like TS to another even more Premier League nieve manager! I know there maybe questions around Moyes' style being dull and defensive but we need to win and draw games and dig ourselves out of this mire no matter how dull, nasty and negative we may need to play. What would it be like saying to our WBA followers of dross "well at least we went down trying to play attractive football" Gerard Houlier, Alex Mc appointments really scare me now that this lot could offer the job to some one really off the good judgement scale. Shame too late for big Sam to shore things up, Moyes may want to stay till summer in Spain so who else, does Harry 'Houdini' Rednap really hate us so much, (please not Brendan Rogers) UTV.

Agree1 Disagree2

25 Oct 2015 21:17:09
You'd think he would be a natural choice with the French revolution over the summer at villa, the logical thought would be he knows the players he has at his disposal.
Either way any new manager has a lot of work on their hands and toothless attack without a proven goal scorer and a leaky backline with a dodgy keeper.

Agree3 Disagree0

26 Oct 2015 01:45:57
Rémi Garde is a decent manager. And from what I have read, I think that he is one of the better managers. Plus he is a proven manager, having won two titles with Lyon in the three years he was there.

This appointment wouldn't be bad. He knows both French and English, so he will be able to communicate with the players.

This will be the best appointment since Martin O'Neill left, I am that serious.

Agree2 Disagree0

25 Oct 2015 14:51:32
To be fair Sherwood is a case of one of those ex pros who is unproven as a manager. I never wanted him as Lambert's replacement, but will be forever grateful for him keeping us up last season, as well as the bonus trip to Wembley. While he had a good record in a short time at Spurs, with their squad I could win half their games as manager. When it came to get us off to a start this season he looked well out of his depth. People talk about him being the one who developed Kane. well, that might work out, but even including his penalty so far this morning, Kane has 2 goals, Gestede has 3. I am grateful to Sherwood, but we need someone proven, and at this point someone who can grind out results.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

25 Oct 2015 14:05:10
Mystery man Ray Wilkins also gone and Kevin McDonald taking over as care taker. Brutal business but was nowhere for Tim to hide. Results don't lie! Very grateful to his end of last season rescue and wish him well for the future. Now go out and get Moyes and get club sold and rid of the real root of our last few season's woes RL and TF! UTV.

Let's hope we now get a carefully-considered management appointment, not just a knee-jerk to put a warm-body in the seat. BBC still talking about Moyes being favorite. Fingers crossed - we're going to need someone who can pull-off a top-half finish on a shoestring.

Season after season millions wasted in compensation due to sacked managers beggars belief, when the F are villa going to do something right by the hierarchy in charge, us fans pay hard earned money week in week out for our beloved club, seriously s*** needs to change once and for all, now let's get a proven manager and steady this sinking ship fast, we deserve it since MON left yr after yr we get worse and it's worrying, above all I say we pull out all the stops for moyes, hell villa seems to like throwing millions money away for free, so let's throw some serious money at a serious proven manager and get our club out of doldrums UTV come on.

We should try and go for Cesare Prandelli he will make us hard to beat and more solid at the back.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

25 Oct 2015 14:01:19
In my opinion TS should have done his time in the lower leagues and worked his way up. How they expected him to manage at the top level straight away is beyond me.
I'd like Moyes but he is very risk averse so expect middle of the table boring football. Not that I'm complaining as not to be in a relegation scrap would be lovely. Whoever comes in has a hard job, 4 points from 10 games and 4 points adrift is a hill to climb, any worse and it turns into a mountain.

Today took us to a new low. I can understand any fans over-optimism at the start of a season. I for one, deep down, knew that Richards hadn't changed. He is still a juvenile player with potential (albeit less now with age) who has yet to mature. While we weren't comfortable at 1-0. Richards unnecessarily handed them a way back into the game, from nothing. Our squad is made up of has beens (awful attempt from Lescott), yet to bes (grealish, Amavi, Traore) and never will bes (Richards) . We have no one who is proven, experienced and in their prime. Gueye is the only one close to that. MAY BE Gestede could be. But that's it, no experience with ability on the side.

A lot of players didn't want to join us, was just putting it out there, my choice woulda been Mario Gomez on loan, on less than Adebeyor, save the money that bought Ayew for Begovic or any keeper better than Guzan, and gone all out for Trippier or Yedlin because either are better than what we've got at right back. As an aside, no footballer today is 100% committed to a club, just committed to money, sad but true

21 Oct 2015 21:42:42
I understand where people are coming from when they say sherwood spent 50 million, but the fact of the matter is we lost our 2 best players plus vlar. We were never going to replace them as players of that quality wouldn't be interested in a relegation battle for a club in limbo with lerner. I hope ts can turn it around.

i'm not sure how many of the new players he actually chose himself either. Beat swansea and think we could turn it around. Trying to stay possituve. COME ON! Utv.

22 Oct 2015 02:03:54
Have to say I totally agree, this new fella who came to us from the arse (nal), is a massive believer in the moneymaking system of scouting a player, hence it's gone a bit wonky, give Tim the support and time, it'll work, I still feel we sack him, who'd come in to a club which is rudderless, no manager worth his salt, not unless you want another yes man or blue nose refugee.

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Oct 2015 15:17:55
I think that Sherwood's tactics and player transfers have been somewhat questionable. I don't believe that the lack of time and support are the reasons.

But if Sherwood gets sacked, then Villa should appoint Laudrup.

Laudrup is the only manager I know, who fits the bill at Aston Villa. He knows the attacking play very well, and will have almost no problems communicating with the players. He learned during his player career at Barcelona, Juventus, Real Madrid, Lazio and Ajax. He also played in the Japanese top league for a while, and has played well throughout his career. In my opinion he has a wealth of experience. Plus he is a proven manager, having won seven titles.

How perfect would that be for Aston Villa?

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Oct 2015 16:26:26
Totally agree mate. I have rated and wanted Laudrup for a long time, before he was at Swansea even. Never quite understood why nobody has snapped him up since he left Swansea either? though I do vaguely remember reading that he felt he had been poorly treated by the club and the British media and that he wasn't interested in returning to the Premier League, but money talks. Cause there's sweet FA else we could offer him to come besides money.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Oct 2015 09:21:03
Laudrup would undoubtedly be a good appointment but wouldn't say his the only answer, David Moyes gave an average Everton side top 8 regularly on a shoe string budget, could be just as good an appointment!

Watched Swansea vs Stoke tonight, and although they lost I can't help but feel very worried for villa this weekend, they was without a few key players and when they (Ki and sigurdson) came off the bench they looked the team who beat United at the start of the season. Hopefully Villa watched an saw that if you double up on their wingers you nullify majority of their threat! Hope villa park is loud and proud Saturday, let's get behind them, UTV!

we was very unlucky to lose yesterday, but the fact is we wtill lost.

for 45 minutes we was the better team and should have been 2 up by half time from what I've seen of highlights, but all that being said i think i feel the same as most when i say tims got to go.

if moyes really has come out and said he wants the job and that's not just paper talk i think we need to get on the next flight over there and get his name on the dotted line.

but something needs to change before its just too much for any manager to fix.

20 Oct 2015 12:08:27
I admit that I was swept up by the initial TS feel good factor last season. I have just more than a sneaking suspicion that he is losing/ lost the dressing room and does not know what to do to get us out of the mess we are in. I am certain he will go after the Swansea game. Being linked with a manger such a David Moyes is too good to pass on. He has a proven track record, with 13 years experience in top flight, and far less risky than TS, even if he comes in and stabilizes the situation to get us up to a solid 14th /15th by new year would be a huge u- turn in fortune. If Lerner leaves it any longer we will be bottom of the table by Christmas with about 13 points in the bag if we are lucky. so a dead certainty to be relegated this time.

I think we all were and tbh i'm a bit disappointed we never picked up from where we left off, I know we had about 12 new players but so did a few others and they seemed to start well albeit having a faltering moment lately. I had real high hopes during the close season but thinking about it, all them losses we had was the writing on the wall then? and for TS to keep bleetin on about having the spine ripped out of villa, delph n benteke hardly the spine tbh and cleverly just used us as a stepping stone even PL and AM had a better start to there season than we are having now I can't for the love of god understand what the hell has gone wrong being so angry is an understatement the mrs has even threatened to hit me with the rollin pin if I thump the laptop one more time and as for these stupid mail interviews oh the dressing room is buzzin we going do it this week were full of confidence geeze stfu and do your talkin on the pitch get us back up the table were we belong show some pride! and before anyone says calm down ill give meself a heart attack it already happened lol back in may the sunday after the fa cup geeze Rant Over VTID!

EFC fan in peace guys, 2nd love the Villa anyway so only want the best for you

Hnch - How you can say Moyes is not good enough is beyond me, we only slagged him off because of the way he dumped us for Utd, he consistently gave us top 6 on a shoestring budget, he would be perfect for you guys and the sooner you go for him the better as there is no way he would turn Villa down, the only thing you need to watch out for is if the Geordies lose the next 2 as they will be in for him too.

Feel sorry for Sherwood as seems a good guy and don't know the general consensus as to what you all think but for me it may be a big club too soon in his managerial career, Moyes would be perfect so better go get him guys

Good luck this season

Hiya mate, regardless of our lowly league position I think we should stick with Tim Sherwood. We've not had a drubbing off any team so far. People are moaning about the tinkerman making changes and so he should be if it not working.
I've never been a fan of moyes, would much rather have your gaffer Martinez!

Hi Finch

We were all ready to flog Martinez last season and we all love him again now ha ha, fickle bunch us fans mate but it is a results business and if you don't perform then you will get the stick off the fans

I know what you are saying about Moyes mate but he would get you back in the top 8 within 2 seasons, you guys have slipped so badly, I remember not long ago it was always between you and us (sometimes Spurs) who could break into the top 4, pretty sure you will be back but you can't go down as that would be devastating for the business end, which as we all know means bye bye decent players

I like Time Sherwood as a person and don't watch you enough to know if he is doing a decent job but wish you all the best

Ok another defeat but against a team we wouldn't expect to get many away points against especially as they had a point to prove after all their media this week. We were not anialated and had it not been for daft mistakes for both goals a draw would have been fair on the majority of play. We didn't get enough on Rudy's head and some of our penetration play was let down by some poor passing and loss of possession. More than ever we need to roar on our poor and at best a future average team against swans and as today sing tim's name. Let's keep behind them and give Tim and players more time! UTV.

If we get 3 points against swans it maybe a position to drive on from and get a small run of stopping the rot? If we beat swans and then carry on as we are or lose then I will be proven wrong. Pundits on match I was watching saw the positives around play on centre of the park but no cutting edge and defensive slip ups. If get Moyes or whoever are they going to get more firing power? Chelsea mate of mine at the game thought we were too good to go down and felt we sowed up and didn't disgrace ourselves . Don't believe Kozak is the answer! Perhaps being harsh should give Tim till start of December but I am still not convinced he won't turn it round. Deluded I maybe but will never boo and carry on singing from the holte! As for PL find it hard to find any nugget of success during his reign! Tim v PL, Tim every time!

Should Sherwood change his back line in an attempt to save his job. Many are saying Richards on the right hand side and I go along with that and go the whole hog and play a back 3.
Richards. Okores, Clark.
It is an old system that used to rb, c/b, lb

If he went this way and put 5 across the middle, he would get a stronger defensive group. There are enough players to interchange them at any time. That would put 1 up front and 2 tucked in behind and again enough players to change round.
Sherwood needs to do something b4 it's too late for him and AVFC.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

15 Oct 2015 16:58:35
I said that a while back change of formation is needed and to speak to Richards and ask him as captain to move RB temp till January then we get rid of Bacuna/Hutton,as a captain I think he would if asked although he came as promise CB. TS his days are numbered although I had a bit more expectancy beginning season it's all flushed away,he looks like ages yrs, body language awful, tactics wrong, change after change how is any player going to even get a chance to get consistent,we're loosing anyway week in week out, personally think the Leicester result destroyed TS and his confidence, belief, commitment. enough is enough change is needed A.S.A.P before it's too late,Moyes moves from Spain doubt it willingly but there's hope, anchelloti wow would be awesome doubt it,Rogers I'm 50/50 not sure,Maclaren no frikken way that will be last nail in coffin for us

I partly agree Oldvillain. But I woudl stick with 4 at the back but go 5 in midfield
Gana and Westwood holding. Traore and Sinclair wide with Gil or Grealish in behind Gestede
The key would be Gana and Westwood holding. Then the fullbacks could overlap with the 2 wide men without leaving us too exposed

Gil and Grealish need an extended run in the side together to build up some sort of understanding.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Oct 2015 19:32:37
I'm no fan of Westwood and I really like Gil
But, I think Westwood is more suited to hold (and not much else)
As for Gardner, I don't see him as a holding player either. If he gets fit perhaps he could challenge Grealish and Gil for the no 10 role ?
Another option would be to drop Sinclair in place of Gil ?
Or, put Grealish wide, in place of Sinclair and play Gil behind Gestede
Blimey, I'm getting myself confused now !

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Oct 2015 19:36:14
With 4 at the back it becomes 2 as the outside pair become wing backs and we can't afford the reduction.
With the 3 they generally stay in place and the outside pair of the 5 (mvani & ???) go forward and back.
Hate spellchecker!!!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Oct 2015 19:54:47
I think if we played 2 down the middle, 1 up the right, that would leave us with a 2 spare who could hold the oranges when the back three release the I up front. SORTED.

That's why I stress the importance of 2 holding in midfield
As the fullbacks bomb on they have cover to plug the gaps
If your fullbacks don't "go" at the same time, you still effectively have 3 at the back

Maybe when you're in the mire a few words of encouragement from the man at the top might do the whole world of good?

If I was running a once successful business that was now not at all successful and in fact on the brink of collapse, I would want to be there myself to solve it, I couldn't do that from home, no way could I do it from another country.

I saw in a recent interview that Randy claims his greatest error is not moving to England when he first brought the club and yet has still done nothing about it.

Many were down to Riley (recruitment) who knows f. All about football.
Sherwood stated that these were his buys an we should judge him on results.
Can we actually believe what we are reading?
I am more worried than ever that our senior management team are playing silly games and not allowing Sherwood to do the managers job. If this is so then the situation is cause for concern.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Ask your self why sherwood would claim they are his if the wasnt??

If they worked out, and was a success, he can claim it's his tactics, training and management

If they don't, he can say that's it's not his team, that the training is right, the management is right, it's the playing staff that's wrong, as it's not his pick.

So in short, he would never say he had anything to do with, unless he did. He may be many things, but stupid isn't one of them!

Which could explain why he isn't runing up an down the touchline like last season he is simply unhappy! Also you might all be intrested to know that pre season in portugal was not all what it seemed as sherwood wanted them to do more fitness and instead the club ordered sherwood to get the players to do more commercial things! All for now folks

They are unambitious and unwilling to give the needed funds for us to improve.
As a unit they don't deserve us the fans, the ones that pay there dues every week. We could stay away but what use would that be in the current situation.
We could raise placards demanding the board "do one" and make us all happy.
At the end of the day the guy at the top is trying to sell the club but who will buy a failing business that will require £millions to put right on top of £150/2008 to buy.

1) if you don't shoot, how do you score??
2) if you constantly slow play down, how do you catch a team in the break?
3) if you wait for opposition to always get back to position, or their formation, how do you ever really beat them man for man?
4) if your losing 1-0 in the 93 minute, and you get a corner, with both centre backs, and a striker which on paper is best attacking player in country with his head, why would you side foot to edge of area?
5) if your manager, eight games in to a new season, after a full pre season, thinks the team is not fit enough, who's fault is it?
6) if your owner, a 'huge' fan, supporter, and guy totally driven to driving the club forward can't be bothered to attend matches, what inspiration gets the supporters there?
7) if the owner knows what benefits come by staying in the league this year above any other, how can he let this happen??

I actually think the playing staff we have at min is the best we have had since before o'niel, but I also think the tactical awareness is the worse. I think the whole team is petrified of making a mistake, and ts doesn't have it in him to turn it for the best.

I think our owner has left us, and we with him in stewardship are a dead man walking.

We need a revolt. Lerner out, sadly Tim out, (although thank you Tim, last year, in parts was amazing) and big Sam in by Christmas. Or we will be adrift.

Sorry

I think he deserved a chance, and after the way we turned a corner last year, earned the right to have a go.
But we need to be honest, as does ts, and admit things need to change.

tbh don't think big sam is the answer and i for one am glad he gone to sunderland he didn't do nothing at bolton, newcastle, westham yea he prolly kept them in the prem but that's it. We need someone who is going to turn villa park into a fortress make teams think when they come to villa they are not getting an easy ride someone who can bring the best out of the talent that we know we have. While brendon rogers is not the worst in the world i don't see him as any different from sherwood we need the board to be a bit more ambitious go for an anchelotti or a de boar someone of that calibre all i'll say is pray villa sort it before mcClaren gets the bullet!!

Professional people on THOUSANDS per week don't know whether they are allowed to shoot? This is laughable. The team should be able to organise and play matches WITHOUT A MANAGER?

Total agreement that this is far from satisfactory and I also admit that I have serious doubts about Sherwood, (a few half decent potential signings aside and a few games last season he has been unsuccessful in everything else) but at the same time. I am pretty fed up of millionaires strolling about and doing nothing and then its all the managers fault.

Players never seem to take ANY responsibility for anything. Even when they're naughty off the pitch they are protected as much as possible. Why did Sherwood pinpoint Grealish to change his off the field antics yet not raise anything about Gabby?

I honestly believe that if the rules changed and clubs started to sack players for poor performances in the same way they do managers the whole game would dramatically change for the better.

Some of TS decisions and substitutions have certainly been questionable and he definitely should carry a portion of the blame, but by no means all of it. Randy Lerner is one of the biggest culprits but there are MANY. He's spent some of his inheritance sure and i have given him credit for this in the past, but his reluctance to be involved day to day and his "shyness" to answer any questions posed by the pathetic media or the loyal supports is a shameful reminder of exactly how much he cares. But there are others.

I blame GABBY just as much as I blame any of the previous managers. One of the top earners and supposed Villa fan yet struggles to score 5 goals a season for the club he loves so much? Same as I place blame on the heads of the coaching and medical staff that have been there for sometime (Cowans in particular) how many long term injuries have we had over the last 10 years, how many have occurred in training and then how many have been delayed and delayed in their returns, the numbers are staggering.

If you look at anyone that has got a connection to the club (past player or so-called supporter) that has a job within the club and how they can bare to watch what is happening, but the truth is they're getting paid a fortune to be part of it. And anyone who does say anything, or points out any of the obvious flaws is booted out, from disgruntled fans with signs and banners, to coaches, two assistants, Ian Taylor anyone who got in the way.

I feel like I could go on and on, ripping this club I have devoted over 25 years of my life to, to shreds but for what gain? The only person suffering is me, my kids and the rest of the supporters.

Is Randy Lerner suffering? Is Prince William?, David Cameron? Gabby Agbonlahor? Tom Hanks? Tim Sherwood? I don't think so.

The biggest and saddest reality of all is that Us MUGS are PAYING A FORTUNE in hard earned cash, emotion and misfortune to be part of this!

Wow. Impassioned Post and unsurprising given the circumstances. I cannot disagree with the sentiment, but I have to ask, what is so different this season compared to those recently gone by that has inspired such passion amongst the Villa faithful? Perhaps the unprecedented signing of 11 new players with, at least, the promise of better things? My interest in the club is different. My Avatar on this site is my great-uncle who was Villa Vice Chairman from 1900-1910 when he inconsiderately died about 100 years too early to hand over the reins to me and hence secure a great future for the club  For me, if we ended up in the Conference, I would still be a Villa fan because it’s not about the success of the club compared to others (BCFC aside obviously) it’s about loving the club, it’s history, and everything it stands for. It’s not even about geography – many on this site are either ex-pat Villains in some way or another, or are too far away to make the expensive trip regularly. I’m from south of the City Centre so, by nature, would be supporting … oh no, it’s not even worth considering. No-one here would consider switching allegiances to any other club. We know some parents of new-borns sometimes take time out from regular attendance on The Holt every other Saturday to attend to newly-prioritized child-minding duties, but even that never lasts longer than a few weeks .
My point is that, whist many of us have been supporting the club for over 55 years (OK, maybe just me then), apart from a couple of ‘glory days’ in the early 80’s, it’s never been easy. Before the 1st Division title and European Cup, we’d been dining-out on the historic FA Cup victories for years. Maybe none of us will ever die happy as Villa supporters – it’s just a big part of our seasonal Saturdays and cup matches – hopefully we’ll all die a lot happier from other victories in our lives – God knows we deserve it.

Thanks for your interesting reply, and I must say I do agree with your points about it never really being that great or easy but yet here we all are none the less and still 10 years down the line many of us will still be here begging for success.

All my family are originally from down south, in fact I was actually born in Hove but we moved up to Redditch when I was still only a few weeks old, so i'm actually alone in supporting Villa (except for my mrs and my kids) all my other family support Brighton.

To answer your question directly as best I can, I think you're right in this season starting with some new found 'optimism' which has only lasted about 3 games into the season and is pretty much already dead.
I think there are a number of reasons for this.
Staying up last season is a big factor.
Sherwood being the manager and not Lambert is another big one for a lot of fans.
The entire squad overhaul from getting rid of some of the deadwood to bringing in some highly rated young overseas talent.
I think also the takeover rumours and possible sale played a factor in many supporters having some more 'belief' this season and now feeling even further let down because of it.
I think a lot of people genuinely believed that the funds being allocated to sign the players were coming from some unknown source who was about to takeover the club and save us all. and when that fire eventually got stamped out, the belief did not die but instead just changed to a more "Randy is investing, he must give a toss again" attitude which didn't last all that long either.

The truth is our net spend was pretty pathetic in comparison to the teams in the league especially those we would consider our main threats. And where as I do agree that money doesn't buy everything and you cannot simply go and and buy success that easily even Chelsea and Man City have found it difficult with all their wealth to be consistent. We certainly could have done better in this summers window. A proven striker was a must, no disrespect meant to Rudy Gestede but he's not Benteke and we only just about survived twice with him.

I think a lot of supporters including myself are just sick of being hood-winked, those of us who are realistic know Villa are far from being a top 6 side at the moment and that the table the last few years does not lie. We just want to be competitive, have a few cup runs where we don't embarrass ourselves against lower opposition, or in the final! We don't expect to be the best and spend the most, but we expect to compete, and the last few season we haven't done that, it would be a compliment to say we have even stood still.
It isn't just out league position which has taken a hit since MON left, it's the clubs reputation, the clubs respect and most importantly the fans hearts and wallets.

I want to be able to take my kids to the Villa again with a real desire to be there, to enjoy it win, lose or draw. Rather than it feeling like a chore as it has become, something I now rarely look forward to. The life and soul has been sucked out of the club and the supporters along with it.
Nobody expects miracles, nobody expects trophies every season there are a lot of good honest supporters who only want the best for a club that has done nothing but take since MON left.

I think all we really ask is at least start meeting halfway.

Sorry for essay. There's no way I could've written this with a pen. Lol

"I think all we really ask is at least start meeting halfway."

Well said fplmorg. I think every villa fan on here would be more than happy to have a few seasons of not looking over our shoulder. Wouldn't it be nice to be safe with 5 or more games left in the season and not be having to worry about other results going our way? While I agree that the players owners and board must shoulder some of the blame for our poor start and previous poor seasons I fear that Tim is the main (well most easily remedied in the short term) problem right now. His tactical naivety has cost us too many points this season already (I was hoping that RW appointment might have helped in this regard but alas it seems not) and his subsequent comments have more than an air of Lambert to them. Young team, great effort, etc after the investment over the summer I can't help but feel that a proven manager would have villa moving upwards with the squad that is currently available at the club. Love him or loathe him big Sam has proven himself to get results and I would welcome his managerial knowledge to the club. Or maybe Ray could give his old mate Carlo a call?
Anyway whatever happens to our beloved club I will still wear my claret and blue proudly whatever division we are playing in.

I am now with only 8 games in desperately worried, think we all had some better expectations with some signings,TS interviews etc etc, well it's not happening at all, seems game after game TS has no idea best starting 11 changes after changes and some very questionable subs,I thought personally that game against Stoke was a must win game even this early (yes) I believe it was to stop the rot. I'm mean ayew best 45 2nd half against that little club near us lol,Liverpool dropped, uhhh,Well I'm in disbelief not much more to say TBH it's just all depressing

Let's get some info then Everybody. How many more games has TS got before Villa does something about it. Next. the longer we wait less calibar of a manger will be available,ie. Sunderland,Newcastle. (once McLaren goes enevitable). Would get the better quality manager before us. No way would we be linked with the type of manager that the liverpools,Chelsea's if Jose gets sacked, maybe, maybe not?. SO like the above post about Big Sam. why not.steady ship, proven manager, perm exp,my major worry is with all the interviews TS has done, his body language game day,and after he looks like his heart has gone, maybe just my opinion but that's what banter/rumour site is here for,to top it off TS looks to me like he has aged 10yrs in last few weeks and his energy has disappeared. I'm not one to be irrational but S*** needs sorting the soon, what do you guys think ?

I'd take either of them in a heartbeat, but how realistic is it that either of them would come? Not likely.
The reality is we are a club with a good past history and a piss poor recent one with has effected our stature within the game, were essentially already in a relegation dogfight and its only just October, we have a clueless unambitious owner who has both failed to find us a new owner/chairman or show an interest and change the direction of the club.
We've had almost an entire squad overhaul, and yet have no proven premier league goalscorer in the team. With a probable tiny budget and low wages available in January, it makes you wonder.

Who can we seriously get in? I don't want Big Sam, Redknapp, Bruce or any of the other usual shower of shite that get linked with every job going. I'd rather give K Mac another shot than any of them. I wouldn't mind Moyes but can't see him leaving sunny Spain for Birmingham any time soon. Any appointment HAS to be the right one, or don't bother making one at all. The club need to make their ambitions clear before they can think of looking for a new manager cause' if just about stopping up is on the agenda for the next few years then we may as well have just kept Mcleish

What exactly are we going to offer the prospective manager?
Cheeky 1mil bonus to keep us up? and then back to the same old this time next year round?
We deserve better than that.
We're supposed to be Aston Villa for **** sake.
