I posted this morning on gerard houlliers position and this was straight from b'ham mail pages. However, I have since had some information that says, - Aston villa will make an announcement on Tuesday that gerard houllier will retire due to health and family pressures! Also, salifou has been released. Ed, have you any intel on this?
Sorry for the conflicting posts. {Ed001's Note - I am getting similar mixed messages, purely because of the fact that Ged is waiting on results of tests and so no one knows whether he can carry on or not.}

It looks like gerard is set to stay as he was back at villa park yesterday and he vowed to return to his job in time for pre-season training in July. B'ham mails villa correspondent mat kendrick, who was there yesterday said houllier "looked well" and is expected back at work towards the end of next week, before taking a holiday in France.

I rate David moyes as one of the best managers in the prem but I really can't see him leaving everton to come to villa. The two clubs are about the same size so why would he want to leave a team he has built to move down the road and start again? Ancelotti or benitez are more likely.

Just to help clear some things up related to Aston Villa.

Randy Lerner has a list of potential managers and has had dialogue with at least 2. (Walter Smith & Carlo Ancelotti) But it's just to state there could be a Vacant post soon. .(Depending on the outcome of houlliers test and his commitment).

On to the players. Houllier had a list made up prior to suffering heart condition problems, This list is in the possession of Faulkner and Lerner who are willing to persue these targets as they feel they're of a good calibre. (With or without a manager.)

Also Downing, A Young, Friedel, NRC, Pires, Dunne, Warnock, Heskey, Carew, Ireland, Salifou, Osbourne, & L Young. Are all set to leave Villa over the course of this summer.

Players that houllier wanted in are as follows:

GK. Foster (Main if blues were relegated) or Green.
RB. Walker (Loan or purchase).
CB. Samba.
LB. Izaguirre (From Celtic)

I wouldn't get carried away with too much at the moment I Know nothing is certain on mr houlliers position as manager yet. B'ham mail have people tryin on this and they know nothing yet. As for signings, unless Faulkner is sorting them himself I can't see any till manager situation is sorted. About 2 weeks before houlliers heart problem, rumour from within avfc he wanted out at end of season. This is by know means 100% but moyes name was mentioned then and it was linked earlier in season when bookies stopped taking bets on him becoming manager before houllier signed. Might be all BS who knows.

Young and warnock are defo goin. Rio coker wants 80k a week wages wich villa are not going to pay. As for signings I ent got a clue but we will have to bring a good few in.

Ive heard the same stuff about Defoe, personally i think he'd be the perfect signing. Next year i hope we play a normal 4-4-2. From all the stuff i have heard both from papers and other sources this how i believe the squad will face up next season!

GK: Friedel is likely to be on his way, hopefully he will have a final floury at Liverpool or something like that. Guzan as well will lieave, he's sick of being over looked constantly. Difficult to say who will come in too replace him, i pray its not Green, hopefully someone like Mandanda or Al-Habsi.

Def: Some change will be seen here, Dunne might have just earned himself a stay after the great performance against Arsenal. Both Collins and Dunne will stay, Cuellar will leave, i can't see him having much of a future. L.Young will stay due to his versatitiliy. Beye will be moved on along with Warnock. Figueroa will join, as will Samba, he's restless again and can see that Villa will be up there again next season. Walker will rejoin on loan again, i know its a long shot, probably more hope than expectation tbh.

Mid: Reo-Coker will sign on for 3 years, im so glad about this. Petrov will be off to Celtic probably, i can't see him being here another year. Depending on funds Ireland may be allowed to leave, if he doesn't leave then nothing more will happen in the cm position. On the wings Young will go im afraid, N'Zogbia will replace him, Albrighton will have more of a role next season too.

Att: Defoe or Rodallega to be signed, if Wigan go down then Rodallega but if not then id put my money on Defoe. Spurs want new men up top and he wil be a casualty of the Tottenham cull.

A snippet of news regarding the managers position at Villa Park is that former CSKA boss & Brazilian legend Zico has been talked about, at the same time Wigan's Martinez is being considered, both very different options so potentially expect to be surprised.

Already been picked up that Villa are tracking Inter's Mcdonald Mariga though problems with work permits may be a stumbling block. A new winger to replace the outbound Young, and and new fullbacks on both sides remain a priority rumors of Izaguirre/Figueroa for left-back, as of yet it remains quiet who's being lined up for the right-back position (Walker loan extension is a possibility)

Friedel will play for another season as no keeper targets are realistically available at the moment, Montpelier's Emir Spahic will come in surprisingly replacing Dunne not Collins who himself will fight it out with Clark for the CB position, same scenario with Albrighton/Agbonlahor on the right wing and Downing will maintain the left. The 'glamor' signing of the window will be Javier Pastore from Palermo bringing in the creativity playing behind Bent.

Expect to see a 4-2-3-1 formation next season if things go to plan
