So are the rumours about Randy Lerner putting Villa up for sale still around. Could do with a new owner and money.
Believable8
Unbelievable10
The grass is always greener but is it the best move? Ask Small Heath fans with regards to carson yeung and the money etc. he promised. Learner has had his hands burned with previous managers and their transfer fees and wages so you can not blame him that he has tightened up the purse strings and hopes the Villa will be more self sustaining. Not what us fans want in the push for success but good in the running of the Villa as a 'Business' which is how football is going now.
Agree10
Disagree3
All the money the Lerners have put in has either gone back to the Lerner trust or has been turned into shares for the Lerner trust. Lerner has not or will not lose a pennyon his investment. He is very far from being a hero as this summer will prove
Agree4
Disagree5
If you had put in 200 plus million in to something, i'm sure you would want a return too. i'm not saying Leaner is a hero but we could have worse owners. Also on your logic of just blaming the owner, should you not also blame the fans who don't buy the shirts, season tickets etc. and invest in the club as this will be the only way we will be able to buy players and pay the wages.

Seems like Benteke will be off in the summer to a champions league team. Hopefully we get a decent amount of money at least 30m and then can start rebuilding the team. An attacking mid and replacement stiker a certainty and then used the rest of the money to sign Bertrand on a permanent deal. Hopefully we stay up then it will be onwards and upwards.

Unbelievable3
Benteke wants a arsenal move, but fee would be likely around 20mil, he's no where near a 30mil player this season misses chances way too often that last season hewould be put away, bertrand signing should be first priority even if he ends up the 5-6 mil mark then another striker, as Bacuna vlaar okore bertrand would be a solid defense
anything else really depends on what funds we have available from income unless we are sold if not learners standard 10-15mil on 6 mediocre players will be my guess hope the gaffer has a few exciting targets lined up
Agree3

Standard £10m-£15m?
Hasn't Lambert spent close to £50m since taking over?
That's £25m each season. That's a decent amount of money as far as I'm concerned. Lambert has just not spent is aswell as I would have liked
And if we get £25m to spend in the summer then that's enough to sign Bertrand for £6m and 2 good Mids to partner Delph.
If Benteke leaves for £20m-£30m (depending on how he does at the WC) then i'd like him replaced with another good striker but I have a feeling Lambert signed Kozak in preparation for Benteke leaving.
>Scg87
Agree7
Disagree4
Kozak is only decent in the air he has no pace to run in behind the defenders. If Benteke left I would like to see Jurgen Locadia come in or a more experienced player like Javier Hernandez or Loic Remy. Hopefully we end up with a decent striker or two.
Agree4
Disagree2
Would be gutted if we were left with just kozak for next season as he offers nothing but aerial prowess, but who wouldn't at 6"5? as stated above, no pace or mobility, no intelligence regarding runs off the ball or positional awareness, just an awful striker! surely helenius is wayyyyy better?!
Agree4
Disagree1
Yes the standard 10-15 mil most other income has been on transfers. we need a strong midfielder to partner westwood and delph, a CB as I have 0 faith in baker or clarke, vlaar would look so much better with quality next to him, hopefully okore will be this guy though and a striker to replace benteke, and others should just to add depth which we lack

Benteke future to be sorted after world cup states his agent. Surely means bye bye Ben. Contracts mean F All and Gunners will be first in line. Oldvillan
Believable7
Unbelievable2
Could be the making of villa, either they would have to spend on quality to keep him or say bye and spend aswell as finding another gem to replace him. Will be a big season for pl next season either way!
Agree8

If we sell Benteke (£20-£30m), get rid of the likes of Hutton Guzan N'Zogbia Sylla Herd etc, including the £10-£15m we get to spend anyway, we could have £40m+ to spend next season, and I know Lambert would spend it well, so Benteke leaving could be a good thing.
Agree4
Disagree8
Sorry mate but what evidence is there to suggest "Lambert would spend it well"?
KEA, Bennett, Luna, Tonev, Kozak, Holt Vlaar?
Agree7
Disagree4
Don't know if that was an accident or what but did you say "Guzan"?! Sell Guzan, are you joking?
Agree8

Tbf to Lambert, Mendax, them players were signed with the intention of cutting wages, Lambert had to gamble on most players signed that they would come in an get better, they haven't.
With Given, Hutton, Zog, Ireland and Bent off the books then that's got to be close to £300k a week off the books, so just maybe our wage budget when signing players will increase in the summer.
I'd be confident that Lambert would sign the right players if he had the budget to go an get the quality/experienced type of players we need.
Remember Lambert was interested in players like Coutinho an Hiyotake before being knocked back because of wages.
Oh an I'd say Vlaar was a good buy.
>Scg87

Meant to say Given, and KEA has been our 2nd best CM for awhile, Westwood had a good month or two but other than that KEA has been 2nd best, Bennett hasn't been the best defensively but he's starting to play well and would be a decent back up LM/LCM/LF, but would rather see him out the squad, Luna hasn't been terrible he just needs time to settle, Tonev was suggested by Petrov and I never expected much from him anyway considering his age, he wasn't even young enough to show much potential, Kozak has been a solid back up ST from what I've seen of him, Holt is a loan, and a back up for Benteke, Vlaar is one of the best signings Villa has made in the past 5+ years and is as close as we're ever going to get to our old world class CBs like Laursen Mellberg Soutgate Ehiogu etc, Benteke has been a phenomenal signing and we will probably triple our money on him, Lowton is a solid RB for his price just needed more games this season, Westwood was solid 1st season, been average for most of this season but has shown glimpses, Sylla is an okay backup CM but would much rather see Gardner fight for the 1st team RCM spot than him, Bowery was only 500k if we sold him we'd get a little less or the same amount, or he'll grow a little and we could probably double it, Okore was a fantastic buy and him and Vlaar will be fantastic next season together, Helenius could become a 7.5m-10m ST if he gets game time, would be a decent CF if we don't end up buying a CAM/CF in the summer, Bacuna is very good attacking wise just needs some training defensively, and Steer could become a decent GK although I'd prefer Siegrist, if anyone actually read all that, I'd say Lambert has done a 8/10 job on signings so far and is our best manager since O'Neill, if we finish below 12th this season then yeah consider getting rid of him, but if we finish 10th-12th then that's two improvements in two seasons for Lambert and we can fight for a 8th-10th slot next season and then a 6th-8th slot and then a 4th-5th-6th slot and so on the season after.

Mirror Sport reporting that Villa scouts are said to be watching Augsburg's Andre Hahn, scored 10 goals from midfield this season and was recently called up to the German national team for a friendly against Chile. Could be really if true. But I reiterate the "if true", but we can hope!

It'll be (really good) if we don't go down! lose at home to fulham and its curtains for this amazing football club, can't see us beating them either to be fair.

^ More doom an gloom lol
I bet you couldn't see us beating Arsenal ManC or Chelsea either.
Fulham, palace, hull are all winnable.
We are unpredictable and inconsistent which means we'll pick up points when we don't expect it
Sometimes I get the feeling that certain "supporters" are hoping we lose games just so they can talk bull**it.
>Scg87
Agree5

Sorry mate but we have lost to palace and Fulham and drawn with hull so nothing suggests we should beat them this time.
We need to stop slatin people for complaining. Take away the wins against arsenal city and Chelsea and who have we beaten? Only Southampton of note! Ppl should be allowed to moan and gripe, it's not as if we have had much to cheer about, only 7/8 games out of the 31 played
Agree1
Disagree5
{Ed007's Note - How many other teams have beat Arsenal, Chelsea and City this season, wouldn't most fans look at results like that as a positive?}
We were lucky to win those games Doug would have done right and sacked PL and we don't play good football
Agree5
Disagree3
Not being funny but ya don't beat Arsenal, ManC an Chelsea by luck, we should of beat Chelsea at the bridge if it wasn't for a ref who literally f*cked us over and we played great against Pool and probably should of won.
I have to laugh when I hear "if we didn't beat ManC Chelsea an arsenal then who have we beat?"
That's hilarious!
You claiming its curtains if we lose to Fulham is just laughable, we're on 34 points with 7 games to go, we would probably have to lose all 7 games for us to get relegated, cus IMO 37 point and a better good will be the mark to keep the 17th place team up.
I'm not expecting anyone to be happy about where we are or how we're playing but making comments like we're going down if we lose our next game is nonsense.
And on your once great club comment, am I the only villa fan who's getting fed up with fans who are not bothering to come support this so called great club?
Even worse, I'm sickened by "supporters" who leave a game at half time. I take it as an insult to me when I see that fellow supporters don't come back to their seats after half time.
Great clubs have great support, I'm starting to doubt that we have that.
AV Fans need to get their act together.
Even the media are mocking our half empty ground

I sort of see both sides to this arguement.
I think the comment from Ed007 doesn't stand up as it can't be seen as a positive if the teams gets relegated (which I don't think we will), surely those results are seen as a positive for a team who have had a solid season and looking to push on next year (like a Southampton). If Fulham had beat those three clubs but get relegated then that's not really a positive. By Villa beating them but losing to lessor teams negates the positiveness of those results for me. Personally i'd rather we had beat Hull, Fulham, Palace, Albion, Norwich, Cardiff Home and Away (possible 12 wins) instead (not even to mention Swansea, Stoke, West Ham, Sunderland).
Unfortunately for a team who are on the back of three poor seasons, beating three of the top 4 but struggling against most of the bottom half of the table can't be seen as a positive. 9 wins from 31 games (regardless of who they are against) isn't really positive (unless youve were 0 for 31 the season before)
With regards to people moaning. I agree with the above that there hasn't been much to chear about this season and true Villa fans will admit that. If you thinlk 6/7 stellar performances justify the 10/15 really poor ones then I just can't get that.
Agree2
Disagree1
We beat Arsenal, should of beat Chelsea, deserved a draw at Liverpool, beat City, can't remember UTD game much, didn't see spurs game, deserved atleast a draw at Arsenal, deserved to beat Liverpool, Beat Chelsea, didn't deserve to lose 4-1 to UTD we actually had more shots and a lot more corners and it was close on possession from what I can remember, so we should of drew and maybe could of won. We are very inconsistent but we show that we can beat any team on any day, when the young lads grow and we sell Benteke and have £40m+ to spend next season (if we sell him next season and all of the dead wood out), then we will be consistent and push for a 6th-10th position.
Agree4

Every single game we have won this season bar arsenal away and norwich home we actually didn't deserve to win, if anyone actualy recalls these matches. lucky to beat sunderland twice, saints away, baggies home, man city away, norwich away and we were very poor in the win v cardiff. this is without mentioning being unable to muster good results against the likes of stoke, palace, hull (all at VP!) to summarise, we've been unlucky in defeats or draws maybe 3 or 4 times, and deserved to win matches on only about 5 occasions this season. we should be down already we have been very lucky this season. saying that, we still need 1 win but can't see us beating fulham or palace let alone man city away!

We did not beat Sunderland at VP, it was 0-0 and we were not very good.

{Ed002's Note - There is no interest from AV right now but there is plenty of interest from elsewhere. If he is at Villa Park next season I would think he might well have a Spurs shirt on.}
He'll have plenty of CL clubs after him.
No chance of us getting him.
I'd take Welbeck tho.

WE have to be aware that Benteke may not be at VP next season and look for alternatives. Kozac is an in house replacement at a push, but we need something different. My post ref. Hernandez was more of a question than a possibility.

Jurgen Locadia will most likely be Benteke' replacement.
Agree1

Wellbeck? he is striker that doesn't score goals, 1 in the prem last season and barely any this season. would rather have the pace of gabby, weimanns work-rate and big bens all-round ability over wellbeck anyday
Agree1
Disagree9
8 goals in 20 odd england games shows Welbeck is capable of scoribg goals.
And btw, Welbeck rarely plays as a striker for united.
Welbeck has all the attributes to be a very good player, he's not clinical but that's the only bad thing about him as a player.
I think at a club like villa, where the pressure and expectation is different than at united, Welbeck could come good, he's 22/23yo, there's no reason why he can't get better.
An benteke will probably leave so unless you want Kozak leading our line then I think Welbeck is good option.
But hey, if your willing to put up £20m-£30m of your own money to go sign us a proven/great goal scorer then I'm all for that

Arsene Wenger never sells any player unless he manages to squeeze top dollar out of the buying club. So, nice thought as it is I'm not sure we could afford to buy Jenkinson as well as Bertrand as Chelsea will surely be looking at upwards of 5 million for him. Will Randy Lerner sanction the expense for both players? I have my doubts.

Not really sure about buying Lennon. He doesn't play for Spurs that often any more and we had our fingers badly burnt the last time we took a player from them, even though that was only a loan deal.

I can fully understand Hoolahan wanting to link up with Lambert again but they can't recreate what they had at Norwich. The Lambert, Holt, Hoolahan years for us at L1, Championship and Prem Season 1 were fantastic and they were and always will be club legends, Villa however are a club with top 6 expectations so I just don't see where they all fit in!
Agree7

I do hope this rumour of us signing Bardsley from Sunderland in the summer is just the newspapers having a joke. We had him on loan from Man Utd. some seasons ago and didn't want to keep him then so this has all the makings of another Alan Hutton situation to me.
Also, what is this story about Lambert being keen on a Senegalese striker with a record this season of 2 goals in 27 games on loan at Genoa from a Russian club. He sounds like just the sort of striker we need with that record!
Clarrie Blue.
Agree9

Konate is the Senegalese striker your talking about, haven't seen him play in Italy but I do remember him being one of the best players in the Olympics a couple years ago, I think he could be a very good signing on the cheap.
Any truth in the Aaron Lennon and Davy Klaasen rumours?
>Scg87

TBH Hoolahan played brilliant against us in the first half, picking up spaces between defence and midfield and getting on the ball. While he faded in the 2nd half (with the whole Norwich team) that was more down to the scoreline and the fact the game was over. A deal to sign him wouldn't be the worst move. Future planning he is not but he adds something different for the next season or two
