after watching the first 45 yesterday against Chelsea it is blatantly obvious that if Darren Bent got injured we would be in the brown stuff if we don't sign another striker. I am still to be convinced that ND is going to step up as Dion Dublin said at least 100 times And I still think Gabby operates better on the wing or as a supporting striker....and the less said about Emile bless him the better I would love to see Defoe at the club first but don't think Randy wants to spend the kind of money required so in that case I think the rumours of DJ Campbell wouldnt be a bad thing for the money QPR have had accepted. Defense wise we will be ok and the midfield is just about ok, maybe another creative player on loan would be good but our attack is poor.

I really cant see the rumours of upson materialising. Anyone who's been a regular down villa park over the past 10 years will have witnessed upson (rightly or wrongly) taking one hell of a slagging off the holte end. I know it sounds like mob rule but if he's got any pride he wont come.
I agree on the new striker issue, heskey's fragile and useless. I like gabbi as a player, but he's got no composure in front of goal. Defoe would be a great signing but we wont pay for him. Bendtner could be a good signing mind.

Just watched this afternoons game. I think we missed the dead ball prowess of young and downing but on the whole still looked a better side than blackburn. can't make my mind up on makoun, he does the simple things well but fails to be either attacking or defensive, I'd play Delph every time. Defence looks sharp. warnock was excellent. Need a striker and a centre half to shake things up. Think we'll be alright next season without pulling up any trees.

people who keep on quoting the 25 man squad ruling please read the following points. .it is my understanding that a lot of the players taken to Hong Kong won't need to be named in the 25 rendering your arguement redundant.
- Clubs register a squad of up to 25 players, which must include at least eight 'home-grown' players, at the end of each transfer window.
- Home-grown players do not have to be English; home-grown players are defined as those who "irrespective of nationality or age, have been affiliated to the FA or Welsh FA for a period of three seasons or 36 months prior to 21st birthday"
- Clubs can supplement squad with unlimited number of players under the age of 21.
- Changes can be made only during transfer windows, although in exceptional circumstances (eg goalkeeping injury crisis) moves could be allowed.
- Players loaned to Football League clubs cannot be replaced, but can regain their spot on return to parent club.
- Rules apply only to Premier League matches, not European, FA Cup or League Cup action.
So the squed we have taken to Honk Kong will not be the final squad for the start of the season otherwise we wouldn't sign anyone. .idiots. If the squad needs to be improved it will be. .there will be more activity both coming and going over the next 40 odd days.

N'Zogbia, not in the UK, could discuss terms over the phone, and may fly back to England for a medical as soon as tomorrow. Even if the move is completed in the next couple of days, it is unlikely he will join the squad in Hong Kong, as he has no visa to play in the tournament.

I hate to say this fans but I have it on good authority that now he has Given and a winger in the pipeline to replace Downing, there aint gonna be any more purchases. Alex has the cash but has decided he is happy with the squad that he has and wants to concentrate on bringing the likes of Bannan, Clark, Albrighton, Delfouneso, Hogg, Baker, Herd, Lichaj, Gardner, Weiman & Johnson through. He'll re-assess in the next window once he has given this lot plus Beye, Warnock and Ireland a chance to prove themselves. Heskey will be allowed to leave (I hear Leicester are up for taking him for a nominal fee)along with Cuellar if he wants to go back to Rangers but that will depend on the wages on offer. Randy is fine with all this as it will mean the wages bill will reduce significantly with Young, Downing, Cuellar, Heskey all departing and a number of other players released already.

Aston Villa will complete the signing of Given on Monday or Tuesday. N'Zogbia will follow shortly after as Villa and Wigan are very close to agreeing a fee. West Ham will respond to Villa's bid for Parker next week, they are just waiting to see if Chelsea and/or Spurs firm up their interest with a bid. Parker will move to Villa if Chelsea and Spurs don't bid, but would prefer to stay in London as he would rather not uproot his young family.
Cuellar will also decide on his future next week with a move to Rangers on the cards. However, it remains to be seen if personal terms can be agreed as he would have to take a wage cut to rejoin the Scottish club. If he does leave, Villa may move for Scott Dann but it remains to be seen if his valuation will be met. If the asking price for Dann is too high Villa will move onto other defensive targets.

Although it i won't be likely that we will buy many players because of Lerners recently tight pockets it is possible to make our game day squad look like the following:
Shay Given (4M): Quality keeper, proven in premiership and has been left out of City squad so is almost a certain signing.
Nedum Onuocha(3m): Great prospect, left out of City squad so will be cheap, quick which fits our style of play.
Carlos Cuellar: Proven he can play well for us, gets across and helps out the right full back.
James Collins: Had a fairly decent season last season, give him another go.
Stephen Warnock: I love the bloke, standout 2009-10 season, deserves another chance if he has the right attitude
Jean Makoun: Recently signed and showed his ability towards the end of the season, seems to be a good box to box player
Scott Parker (5m): Will be difficult to get but if we are able to purchase him he will be a great assest, can help the development of Fabian Delph
Stewart Downing: He will most likely leave but while we have him he will always get a starting role, outstanding last season
Charles N'Zogbia (10m): A bit pricey but a quality player, can score goals and gets assits, if we cannot get him i believe Marc Albrighton is of high enough quality to start
Daniel Sturridge (loan): Birmingham born, would be a great asset to the team as he can add pace but is also a proven goal scorer, he would fit in nicely playing of Darren Bent.
Darren Bent: Enough Said
Hard to get this squad but would be able to get us up back around that 6th position were we belong. I know its a long shot but a cheeky bid for Manu Adebayor. Left out of the City squad, this could make him cheaper, having him playing along side Bent would form a lethal front pairing.

i believe that is wrong.gers have had £1.5mil rejected with villa wanting £3mil with only 1 year of his contract left we will get him for £2.25mil. as long as lerner gives AM some of the young and downing money(if liverpool buy him) big eck will do well so just get behind him.good man and good manager. top 7 next year and closing gap on top 4/5

AM is pushing hard for the following deals given, parker and nzogbia. Villa have also approached man city for milner and wright Phillips. But the holdup being the clubs such as city want their replacements in first. Other players being considered are inkoom, eboue, kalou, park chu young and kranijar and holman. In terms downing learner wants to deal with Henry directly hoping he can persuade them to back off for now, but offering them first refusal next summer.

Im starting to panic now. . We have released several players from an already poor squad lacking in depth in several areas and for the third season in a row we have lost our best player. .although this season it looks as though we are losing our second best player too. We are being linked to everyone at the moment with none coming true. .I really am begining to worry now and am not looking forward to next season at all. .its going to be a long one.

The Villa No1 will be Given or Foster and Given isn't injury prone i seem to remember him being Newcastles No1 for 5 years plus before joining City and they have no loyalty in any player and when they have Hart its a no Brainer Hart is the best keeper in Britain if not the Premier League.
Also at 35 Given is hardly a old man when Friedal was and is a excellant keeper at 40 and van der sar has only just retired at 40 so he's good for a 3-4 year deal easy
