Paul Lambert is set to bring in his first recruit of the window Steven Defour who the club have been tracking for months he willd cost 7m euros according to Porto

Believable18 Unbelievable2

This sort of signing could be interesting as it would give a leader to the pack.
Like to think it could happen.
Please!

Agree12 Disagree0

That would be a quality signing were interested him before he moved to Porto when Martin O'Neil was the manager. Good passer and leader.

Agree5 Disagree1

We're interested in 4 experienced players?
Any names?

Agree3 Disagree2

Kalou rumours surfacing also mertens on loan from napoli

Agree4 Disagree4

Wow random post there, be good if it true always liked Kalou, lad Mertens did he not just join Napoli in summer? Would like it if both came but can't see it. Has anyone heard anymore on Joey Barton.

Agree3 Disagree5

Mertens no chance. He a key player for Napoli, don't know where you got your info mate, can't see the Kalou one happening either but would like him on board probably only Falco & Zlatan that are better strikers in France at the moment arguably Cavani 2 but his scoring record not as good as Kalou's in France, he never got proper chance at Chelsea but still chipped in with goals, would be delighted with this if it does happen.

Agree4 Disagree2

Defour would be a superb stellar signing. Callum McManaman I'd also like to see in a claret and blue shirt! Young on loan? Ivelin Popov?

Agree4 Disagree3

Popov joining Zenit according to reports in Russia, Kalou, Young & McManaman yeah would take them all, Barton not a chance, jack cork would take a chance on him.

Agree5 Disagree2

Would be a great signing. He has leadership qualities.

Agree2 Disagree2

I'll believe it when I see it.

Rumours going round that we are interested in 4 experienced players and Kevin de Bruyne on loan. Hopefully this is true because experience is what we have been missing lately. And the attacking flair of de Bruyne could be vital to our season.
UTV

Believable4 Unbelievable8

De Bruyne is out of the question, I hear he's the player Lambert has spoken to and cancelled the talks with due to his wage demands.

Aston Villa are set to chase to sign Leicester City winger Lloyd Dyer, it is believed Villa are set to make a £4million bid for the foxes winger.

Believable2 Unbelievable21

Please not another dyer situation at VP

Agree7 Disagree2

Shocking if true

Agree6 Disagree1

Oh Christ!

Agree7 Disagree2

What a load of Dyeir Toss. It's clear on even less reliable grapevine that Paul Lambert sees this as his last chance to sustain his Villa stay beyond the next 2 weeks, He will buy relatively big (by Villa's current standards).

A Left sided Central defender/wing back, A two footed creative Attacking Midfielder & A Mobile Striker, the later dependant on Benteke stay which I hope he does. £15mill to spend Benteke sale would raise it to £30Mll+ which would mean enough to purchase/loan some beef in the middle.

As for the names, your guess is as good as mine. Wijnaldum would be nice.

What you? or shall I call you KingVillaspawn

Agree3 Disagree6

I suppose you only linking Dyer as he was born in Aston?

He is 31 and is way from being good enough for playing for us.

He would be 500k tops, but doubt we would want him

Agree3 Disagree3

Villa won't sell Benteke in January, it'll be in the summer if anytime.

Agree6 Disagree1

29 Dec 2013 21:03:25
3 players In in January. Rodwell as I've said many times as he is a long term Pl target. Dembelle off spurs is the other player looked at if Rodwell don't happen. Other 2 targets are jelovic off Everton and joey Barton. Yes you herd me joey Barton. I know these are not lambert normal type and are old players but belive me these are our targets.

Believable1 Unbelievable19

Well they're not as ridiculous as usual, but none the less I'm doubtful.

Rodwell is young so maybe, but no for the rest

VTID

Agree7 Disagree1

Jelavic and Barton, no chance!

Agree13 Disagree3

Love to see Rodwell, but Jelavic? The guy can't score. no thanks

Agree9 Disagree2

You swore blind that rodwell was coming last window anyone else remember that?! you are a liar mate plain and simple

Agree7 Disagree3

Barton I know is one of the most hated men in football and is in no way an ideal person i'd want playing for us but the irony is he's exactly the type of player we need, strong, aggressive, doesn't back down from any challenge and can actually play football, he'd certainly give these players a kick up the ass!

Of course he brings so much baggage with him but I have to say I'd not be disappointed to see him turn up at villa.

>Scg87

Agree9 Disagree1

You cannot be serious! Joey Barton?
I posted the other day that we need a shin kicker but Joey, do me a favour, we could be playing with 10 men for most of the season.
Kingvilla you live in a fairy tale land.

Agree2 Disagree7

You know why he'll sign barton so everyone will be screaming at him not our pathetic under performing manager

Agree3 Disagree2

Seems a lot of people believe that Barton could be the man for us regardless of his history.
Worst disciplinary record (8 times sent off)
Admitted trying to get a player sent off a couple of years ago.
Yes just the man we want at VP to guide our inexperienced team.
What would he offer the team?
I dread to think.

Agree3 Disagree2

For all his faults he can play football unlike our midfield I include delph who is back to his normal playing, Yes I would sign him

Agree1 Disagree4

Oh my god.
Barton at Villa Park not as a visitor?
The thought terrifies me.
Villa are already bottom of the fair play league, can we get any lower?

Agree3 Disagree3

Villa are not bottom of the EPL FPL! what you talking about! we're a lot higher than most these days my friend, including Villa's debt now stands at less than £45m.

Agree0 Disagree2

29 Dec 2013 16:20:03
Villa mite sign milner on loan and POSSIBLY young. Helenius should have a chance but he's probably going out the door on loan

Believable9 Unbelievable11

Circulating via Italian media is talk of a straight swap Benteke for El Shaarawy, however Benteke not keen on the move, Would rather the £20mil added to a reported Jan kitty of £15mil, some might say as long as Hoddle iis the man to spend £35mill, I personally would like to see PL given a chance to spend it, Your thoughts? Who to buy & who to spend it

Believable2 Unbelievable17

{Ed003's Note - He's out injured for about 3 months.}

My thought are you clearly hit the sherry extra hard this chrimbo

Agree18 Disagree3

Would like to see Hoddle as manager villajk

Agree6 Disagree14

Personally would not like to see pl waste any more money, but I think he will be given one last chance in January to turn it round.

El shaaraway at villa. Your living in dream land m8, he is a good player and will never be anywhere near villa park

And I would like to see hoddle I think he could get us playing some good stuff and not long ball

Agree8 Disagree4

El shaarawy at villa would be like messi at Liverpool, a dream we should be aiming more at the likes of depay and or Wijnaldum. Personally the best signings would be getting young and downing back to add creativity which we have been lacking with lescott to shore up the defense

Agree9 Disagree7

Young and Downing?!. No chance and no way. By the way, we got £37M for those two. where's that gone? Other than Benteke and Westwood in season 1 (not so much now), that money was squandered.

Agree7 Disagree7

Young and downing are better than tonev and bacuna any day of the week

Agree14 Disagree4

Young an Downing would make us 100 times better!
Can't see them coming back to us tho.

So many bitter jealous fans about.
Probably the same fans who called Barry a traitor an "a has been" in the Summer.

>Scg87

Agree13 Disagree4

I'd like Lescott, Rodwell and Wijnaldum signed, I think these are realistic and wouldn't be to expensive.

I find it hard to believe A Young would come back and even harder to believe Milner would return considering how good he's been for City over the last 5 games.

>Scg87

Agree13 Disagree1

It's nice to see someone who knows what they're on a about scg87 rodwell would be class young and fits lamberts philosophy, lescott to stop the leaky defense and Wijnaldum to add more creativity,
young and Robbie Keane would also be good ideas to add experience

Cr10

Agree9 Disagree6

Rodwell has been a long term Pl target and will be again in Jan. I have said this many times to be laughed at on here. Watch this space. King villa shall have his day.!!!

Agree2 Disagree5

I've said it before, if Lambert sells Benteke, Hutton, Delfouneso, N'Zogbia, Delph and Stevens, then he should buy Finnbogason, McGeady, Popov and Jansson. I just don't see Lescott coming to the club, he will be expensive.

Agree0 Disagree13

Why will Lescott be expensive?

He's in his last 6 months of his contract so maybe £2mil an city will surely take that considering they obviously bot want him.

An althought he's probably on 90k a week if Lescott still has hopes of going to the WC then he needs first team footy an no club in the word would pay his current wages so I don't think it's out the question he'd take a pay cut but if he don't wanna take a pay cut then he's obviously lost his hunger to play football so we simply move on to the next player

We don't know unless we try.

>Scg87

Agree10 Disagree2

I don't get it.
Why would you want to sell Delph?

>Scg87

Agree11 Disagree2

Then Lambert should try to sell Benteke, he obviously wants to go to Arsenal. And also Hutton, Delfouneso, N'Zogbia and Stevens should be sold. I just thought that Delph, receiving unnecessary bookings, haven't improved much lately, that is why I suggested that he should be sold, but you have convinced me to keep him. I also agree that Lescott should come to the club, if he is not expensive. I think that the other players should be D'Ambrosio and Pocognoli, McGeady or Traoré, Popov or Wijnaldum and Defoe or Finnbogason or Vossen.

Agree3 Disagree2

Which traore?

Agree0 Disagree3

Has anyone heard the rumour we have a salary cap of new players coming in of 20K, this would make sense considering we had the option on Barry. Another load of dross today perhaps this rebuilding means from the Championship up!

Believable9 Unbelievable12

This rumour seems pretty factual, considering our latest additions. VTID

Agree8 Disagree8

Don't believe that.

>Scg87

Agree10 Disagree3

Why no Barry then, who would've definitely improved our squad!

Agree11 Disagree3

Didn't Lambert say that his policy is young an hungry?
Barry doesn't fit that criteria.
Although I'd say PL has been wrong with his transfer policy.

Obviously we can't have a whole team of players on £40k-£50k a week but I do think 1 maybe 2 players could be signed on that money, providing its a player who is in his mid 20s with all the attributes of a proven quality player, especially now that Ireland seems to be off the books now.

Some of the things PL has said in the last week it seems like he's finally admitted to himself that he's got things wrong so I do think he will re-avaluate his young an hungry transfer policy or maybe in my desperation I'm clutching at straws

>Scg87

Agree13 Disagree1

Lets hope you are right, Scg87. Lambert does seem a little less- i'm right, kind of mood all of a sudden.

Agree11 Disagree1

I am absolutely astounded at the change in thinking about Gareth Barry.
In the summer I was slated by so many "supporters " about Villa going for Barry. Comments towards Barry such as Judas, Gold digger, traitor are just a few. Now it seems that there is a movement to get an older head into the team to direct the kids. What kids? They are full grown men, none are teenagers, there apparent youth is an apology for useless. We have a team of headless chickens that need leadership and if Lerner fails to give PL enough money in January then he should do the right thing and sell up.
If Lerner wants prem. football to brag about across the pond then he must fund PL as a prem. owner should.
His vision of a young team bagging the gold is severely blinkered. You can have a section of youth, but you need some leadership.
If Lerner fails to fund then again I state Lerner out.

Agree15 Disagree2

Agree completely with the basis of your comments about both Barry and 'kids'. Barry is one of the best FOOTBALLERS that the Villa have had in many, many years. As for this tedious running commentary by PL and others about a 'young squad' - it's utter nonsense and is insulting to fans. I'm not so sure about the Lerner words, however. on paper, Lerner is exactly the right type of hands-off, billionaire we should be courting. Yes, it's with rose-tinted specs on but on arrival, he 'got' the club 9and the manager we all wanted, admit it, in MON (who also 'got' the history and place of the club). Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for. Vincent Tan anyone?. methinks the fault lies with Faulkner, not Lerner.

Agree12 Disagree2

About time some one speaks sense on this site in regards to Lerner.

We should all be thankful we don't have an owner who want to be on tv all day looking to promote himself and his other businesses.

Lerner is the best owner we could hope for, the only thing he lacks is a spare billion quid he wants to thro away

Give the man a break!

Hey eds is there any update on the Benteke situation, is he leaving in January? Personally villa need to sign a whole new team or sack PL, today is an embarrassment

Believable15 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I doubt if he will be leaving in January.}

I also doubt he'll be leaving in Jan, in fact I think he along with Belgium will hope his back fit Confident & Hungry for goals to build on a successful season for the world cup, he'll be hoping as most of us fans do, that Paul gets a creative CAM to feed his hungry form.

Some Steel in the middle to enforce possession is a must, if both are obtained the rest will flourish, A nucleus of something special does exist within this demoralised team some may not make the standard bur others with the help of these key additions.

Helenius will play a part along with hopefully those youths within.

But who do you think these players should be. Wijnaldum?

Agree12 Disagree3

Benteke will be back for the New Year fixture of Sunderland. Helenius I do hope plays against Swansea, Kozak, Andi & Gabby just doesn't work!

Agree8 Disagree2

Will he cost us 8 mil and will he follow suit? If
he does then wow! I do not think we are that far from a cracking squad of youth flexibility and killing instinct! Yh I am drunk? Lol

Agree3 Disagree2

On Helenius, can anyone figure out why he's not getting a chance?
He's looked good whenever I saw him early on in the season, now there's talk he'll be loaned out in jan.

Can't understand how Bowery gets ahead of him.

>Scg87

Agree14 Disagree1

Looking at villa today I would say unless we have 30m to spend in January we will be a championship club next year, there is no desire, experience is what we need IN LAMBERT I DO NOT TRUST

Agree11 Disagree6

If Benteke gets back on form, we'll look better but we'll still need a creative midfielder. In Lambert we MUST trust!

Agree10 Disagree6

Come to think about it, how does Bowery get ahead of Drennan

I find it strange how Lambert loves this idea of young an hungry player but he refuses to give the youngsters already at the club game time, I'm thinking of Drennan, Grealish, Carruthers and even Gardner who IMO should be starting with Delph an Westwood now.

I wonder what them players are thinking when PL talks of young an hungry players but doesn't bother looking to them.

>Scg87

Agree11 Disagree2

Not to mention Robinson too, Scg87. Lambert said he wasn't ready, so how is Bowery ready!?

Agree7 Disagree2

26 percent possession yesterday tells you everything you need to know about how aston villa play their football, terribly! best thing about the game yesterday was when the entire crowd cheered at weimann getting subbed off! finally we are all seeing just how amateur a player he really is! not that any of the others are much better, I mean kozak, for instance, 6"5 and barely wins an aerial duel, slow as a bloody snail and weak as a paper bag, he is on the floor more often than his feet, he reminds of an even worse heskey! whoever says we don't need vlaar is either deluded or doesn't understand football in general, we are so weak in the center of defence with baker and clark but I would choose baker over clark to partner vlaar as our best defender (okore) is crocked til god knows when!

Agree4 Disagree7

I agree, plus these are better prospects. Gardner should be playing he is our best prospect, I no he's be out injured but he has a footballers brain you don't lose that sick of the cheap buys I would not trust PL to spend big, £7m Kozack wasted no touch, villajk

Agree6 Disagree2

Gardner should go into the nearest skip to bodymoor and give the physio dept a rest, total waste of time baker is another sicknote who needs the trainer when the wind blows

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Dec 2013 15:20:05
pl set to put a January bid in for john gudeti off man city looking at a loan with view to 6 mil move in the summer. will also look at tempting milner back in a 7 mil move in January. can't see that one happening though myself.

Believable7 Unbelievable7

Why does Jordan Bowery get more of a look in than helenius he's terrible

Agree17 Disagree1

Because lambert hasn't got a clue what he's doing that's why. helenius should be in ahead of kozak let alone bowery.

Agree18 Disagree1

Jordan Bowery should not be a villa player as bad as we are, never mind Helenius what about Gary Gardner, PL will probably sell him and play westwood KEA because ther is buys

Agree15 Disagree3

He will probably get released and end up back at Chesterfield

Agree9 Disagree1

The milner move has concrete I posted about it the other week, after todays game we need a whole new squad though, no effort, no desire, and no skill! rumour was lambert had 4 games to turn things around before stoke, so that's 2 gone with both with losses, would be surprised if he's gone by jan tbh which I a shame as the whole teams been s*** since o'neill left its time randy spends or sell as we are a laughing stock and it was painful watching us today
VillaPope

Agree2 Disagree3

Kae is one of the most average players I've ever seen. Gary Gardner offers much more. I actually feel slightly sorry for helenius every time I've seen him play he looks good. He just needs game time to adapt. When benteke is back we should pair them up front as he looks good with the ball at his feet unlike the big oaf kozak. Kozak is such a stupid signing. We need a cam. Can't wait until okore can pair vlaar again as well

Agree8 Disagree5

West brom sacked clarke who did a way better job than s****y lambert, so why aren't we sacking him? its as if everyone expects villa to be worst team in prem and that he's actually doing a good job! effing embarrasing again yesterday can't see where next points are coming from, we WILL end up bottom at this rate and will never return to the premier league. LAMBERT, AND EVERY PLAYER OUT!!!!!!!

Agree6 Disagree2

I was a big fan of PL but watchin us play so poorly too often this season has proved too me that the job is too big for him.

If he was rebuilding a team with no money whatsoever then I would have sympathy with him, but he had money during both summer windows and has spent in total in excess of 25m. I've said it before but 10m was spent on Kozak/Helenius and was that really necessary?

To go into this season haven't brought just one CB was suicidal and has proved the case with Okore being injured and then his Plan B of having to go through the season with either Baker or Clark (and even more worringly both of them together!) is poor management. Our defence needs much needed solidity and there are countless CB in the county who can improve our defence and can be brought at a budget. Big strong defenders who aren't interesting in playing football just defending and clearing their lines. This is exactly the type of CB we need.

Two rumours that I wanted to comment on are regarding Barry and Lowton. Strong suggestions that Barry was offered to Villa (with City covering most of salary) and was very keen on coming back until PL vetoed the idea. A player of his composure, experience and quality would be ideal in our midfield. Even his biggest haters can surely see the job he would have done for us.

And Lowton, rumours have it he was bombed out the team earlier in the season as he moved back to Sheffield to be close to his wife and kids, commuting everyday for training. Apparently against PL's wishes. If this is the case then PL has put the team at a disadvantage by (once again) playing a player out of position (Bacuna) just to stick to a stupid rule. If Lowton is on time for training, putting a shift in and the best man for the job then I don't care where he lives!

If PL was sacked today I wouldn't be too sad to see him go as I think we need something fresh and we are still a big enough attraction to a young manager.

Agree11 Disagree2

If Lambert sells Benteke for £20 million in January, then he has £28 million to spend in the transfer window. If he doesn't buy Finnbogason, Popov, McGeady and Jansson, then I doubt that he will lead the team in the top 10. Then I think that he should be sacked.

Agree3 Disagree8

Last rumour I picked up was that PL will be gone Saturday after the game if we fail to win.
However we will still have Scrooge no matter what happens, and then the search for another manager prepared to work with the budget that my wife has for a weekly shop.
I don't believe that any manager could produce "the goods" with the £25m quoted. Several managers have spent that on one player.
Yes some s--t players have arrived but they have not gelled into a team that PL expected. Some good buys Benteke, Lowton, Westwood and Okore, then some players that have not been given a chance.
The one thing that we really need, Lerner out.

Agree2 Disagree5

Okore will never partner vlaar again as by the time okore has recovered we will be in the championship and okore vlaar benteke won't be here!

Agree5 Disagree2

Vlaar is not far above the rest of the crew, but he will not be gone if we go down.
While we are still in the prem. have you seen or heard of anyone wanting Vlaar in the transfer market?
If we can get him back soon and PL can dig out a real "shin kicker" of a c/h the defence will tighten up. We have been unlucky with Okore. Losing him so soon after the start of the season. Okore has been listed as one of the best buys during the summer.
Everything ain't lost. The bad spell coincides with Vlaar's absence, so there may be some light at the end of the tunnel.
Clark should sent away to the champs or even lower till he learns to take responsibility for the ball in the box. Own the problem, don't give it to others.
But what we need most is Lerner to open his purse wide enough for actual money to escape.
If not then it is still Lerner out!

Agree4 Disagree7

Agree with all the posts really but one I would like to raise is mclaren was close to the villa job but lamberk got it. at the time I thought lamberk was the man but look how well mclaren has derby playing. we need a proven c/b so we have vlaar & okore, two c/m players and ff/sake give the boy helinus a dam good run in the team. watching on sat was the same old story with bker & clarke not good enough, albrighton always getting pushed of the ball, gabby dissapeared again should be 4th choice forward & weimann should come on as sub for the rest of the season, and my last point. if bowery makes the first team again I will not return to villa park for a long long time.

Agree4 Disagree3

New rumour going round that Atlectico Madrid want Benteke as a replacement for Diego Costa in the January transfer window. We should be willing to accept £17.5 million or more in Bentekes current form

Believable4 Unbelievable11

Bentekes agent has rubbished this claim today but with doubts about how serious his mysterious injuries might be I don't think Atletico or any other club will risk big money on him in January. Currently I would say he is just about unsellable with most clubs suspecting he could be a one season wonder. We will keep him this season and clubs will look to see how he performs next season before considering any bid especially at the sort of fee we would want.
Clarrie Blue

Agree6 Disagree3

Would anyone actually care if benteke, or anyone else for that matter, left VP? in my opinion, they can all leave and go to league 1 which would befit their qualities!

Agree7 Disagree2

I don't think any of these players need to leave, they will get better.
The problem is they are not yet good enough to play week in week out, we need 3 players who have experience and the strength of character to stand up to anything, younger players even the good ones find that hard to do but with experience along side them they will grow.

I'm just shocked Lambert didn't see this happening, he was exactly the type of player we need in the team so I thought he'd know what it takes to build a team.
Hopefully he sees the reality of things now.

Eds or Anyone heard rumours about PL wanting Simeon Slavchev?
Supposed to be a prolific goal scoring mid

>Scg87

Believable3 Unbelievable6

He's a brilliant young prospect a midfield 3 of him delph and Gardner will be amazing

Agree4 Disagree7

The bulgarian lampard. Apparantly. Lol we will see hope somebody buys benteke in jan because I think he's playing not to get an injury rather than to win of late

Agree2 Disagree8

Gardner? behave yourself! I know our midfield is amongst the worst in the league but gardner isn't even prem standard i'm afraid.

Agree7 Disagree19

Someone is talking rubbish about Benteke.
For a start playing like he is at the moment, for whatever reason, he is going to lose his place in the Belgian side.
Also, who is going to sign him from us in January, with his current performances? Talk sense.
Clarrie Blue.

Agree8 Disagree4

I agree but unless his performance improves he needs to go!.

Agree6 Disagree2

I thought tonev was supposed to be the Bulgarian lampard haha I'll have less of those to be honest

Agree4 Disagree2

No i'm defo not talking rubbish about benteke how many 50/50 balls have you saw him win lately? No goals. and the team perform better as individuals when he's not on the pitch hrs blantantly trying hard not to get injured to scupper a move away. As good as he was for us last season he is never going to be proud to wear a villa shirt and that's why I think he should go and get somebody else in. Just my opinion.

Agree6 Disagree2

Wishing Benteke out is plain foolish
He had an injury, he was rushed back and he is nowhere near as he was before it
Join the dots for chrissake

Agree2 Disagree7

Absolutely abysmal performance today against arguably the worst team in the Premiership this season. I honestly believe that Palace and Sunderland are better sides than Stoke and they were there for the taking today - but no - two shots and two goals. Guzan makes at least one disastrous error every game and is nothing like the player he was last year. He needs replacing in January and Steer isn't good enough.
Clarrie Blue.

Agree5 Disagree5

Cant disagree with you at all clarrie but its no worse than we have played for at least 2 months now, stoke WERE the worst team in the prem but that is undoubtedly us now. awful goalkeeper, schoolboy defence, a midfield with absolutely no guile, creativity, dominance, physicality ETC and an attack that can't well erm, ATTACK! we are the easiest team to play against and are the laughing stock of the premier league and unless by some miracle we get 50 million in january to totally re-haul the entire squad, meaning every single current starting 11 member bar delph, then we will be going down because we haven't got the ability to survive with the players we have a the moment. lambert OOOUUUTTT!

Agree11 Disagree6

Half of you are deluded - Lambert does what he's told to do, half the team is injured and the defence is shocking! Lerner gave a blank cheque book to O'Neill & now we're paying the price for it! Guzan is no miracle player, if the defence don't go their job - there is only so much he can do! Benteke isn't fit and so he needs to rest! Never have I seen such a poor Villa XI and it isn't Lambert's fault. We chose Lambo, now stick with him!
IN LAMBERT WE TRUST!

Agree10 Disagree13

To the guy up top, we need to sort out the management first before buying or showing interest in other players.

One player will not change this teams fortunes TRUST ME.

Villadave

Agree10 Disagree10

All trust in lambert is gone. the buck stops with him and he doesn't even seem bothered anymore, to say we can't rely on guzan to save at least 1 shot is ridiculous stop kissing his ass he is awful

Agree7 Disagree10

"lambert does what he is told to do" biggest load of junk I have heard in while, so lerner picks the starting 11 does he? get real

Agree7 Disagree2

What bothers me most about Lambert is that after every abysmal performance and every defeat he come out and says exactly the same things - we played well, we were unlucky or he was proud of the lads performance. Probably he is trying to protect his players but I wonder if he really believes what he is saying. If he does then we are in serious trouble. On yesterdays showing I am wondering if there are actually 3 worse sides than us in the Premiership this year. We need a minimum of 7 points from our next 3 games and I seriously doubt our ability to get them.
Clarrie Blue.

Agree13 Disagree2

PL can only pick from what is available and that is very little. Yes he bought most of what we see, but he has only been allowed miserly money to buy and similar amounts for pay. Hence we have got 2nd or 3rd class players. I don't know what and who gets paid but I would hazard a guess that to get a quality player you need to offer £40k a week to interest them. It isn't just the transfer fee, as Deadly used to say, you have to factor in the pay and this then gives you the actual cost of the player.
And we have seen what happens then!

Agree9 Disagree2

We are s*** at the moment baker is well off the pace Clarke is not a center half by any means so one should be sold i'd sell Clarke. The midfield. What midfield. It's terrible no power in there and no brains, middle of the park should be a player who can win a game by his forward play or defensive quality we have neither in any of our midfield bar delf. Forwards get no service but tekkers weimann totally off it. Gabby is a one in 5 man if that, always has been always will be. The rest are 2nd rate & that's being generous just look at tonev. But I will still follow villa hoping for a brighter day cause at the mo lamberk it's f-in embarrassing

Agree9 Disagree2

Gary Gardner should start against palace so we'll see if he's not good enough then

Agree5 Disagree4

Gary Gardner give him time

Agree4 Disagree4

No one really has ANY idea how good Gardner is or may become in the future as he has been almost permanently injured for two years and never plays.
He needs a really long run in Villas midfield to prove himself but is Lambert going to be willing to do that and give him the game time he will need? I have my doubts.
Clarrie Blue.

Agree5 Disagree2

Not a PL buy so I agree

Agree3 Disagree2

Delph wasn't a Lambert buy, neither was Gabby or Andi, but they still play - what a stupid post!

Agree1 Disagree2

Gardner didn't start shame. We need someone with a footballing brain in cm who can dictate games

Agree6 Disagree1

When Gary Gardner sees the c--p players ie Westwood Bowery Toney, KEA a lot more! given playing time he as a footballer must feel sick PL says he won't resign he should his team is the worst team I have seen at Villa Park my first game as a 12yr old 1964 so have seen some poor teams

Agree3 Disagree3

Gary have you seen my painkillers? gardner a shirt he won't wear anyway he'll be in the physio room if anybody wants to see him play, have a streacher ready

Might just be that time of year, however could there be any truth to news Paul Lambert enquired about Omar Abdulrahman price said to be £4=6mill, I've just seen some clips and he looks amazing young/extremley skillfull EPL @VP could be the perfect platform for his growth. Ed please enlighten?

VSon

Believable6 Unbelievable3

{Ed007's Note - I'm not aware of any interest from AV in Abdulrahman.}

I should think ANYONE could improve that side today. Absolutely shocking. Who thought that Luna was worth buying? A complete disaster and responsible for two goals.
Only Albrighton who had a good game and Agbonlahor who ran himself into the ground were any good. The rest were a total waste of space. Anyone who is willing to offer 50p and a belgian bun for Benteke can have him now and I'll drive him there.
Clarrie Blue.

Agree7 Disagree9

Never mind, the Baggies need a manager now, he might just go and take Benteke with him

Agree5 Disagree11

Lambert will be sacked tonight

Agree6 Disagree22

Get real lamberts job is safe he's building something here its not his fault the likes of benteke was a one season wonder

Agree14 Disagree7

He is building nothing, been here 18 months which is long enough to have made definite improvements that haven't been made, don't think he will be sacked tonight but he is on very thin ice after a year and a half of ridiculous signings and empty promises. villa park is the easiest place in the league to get a result, totally embarrassing and can't see it changing anytime soon as we do not have a good enough team from front to back. don't know what else to say am just hugely deflated by everything going on at villa at the moment

Agree14 Disagree8

Why all the negativity? Yes we lost to Manchester United but lambert out? really? what's the point of sacking a manager that is trying to change our club for the good? 18 months isn't going to be enough to fully transform us! The man needs time, like most managers in the league. I thought the score today didn't fully reflect the game as in parts I thought we played some great football, especially in the 2nd half, and Albrighton looked back to his best. I think if anyone needs to go it's benteke, to many times today the team created and Benteke didn't put the effort in to convert. With him gone in January, and a new striker and cam bought with the money we will be easily top 10 without a question.

Agree13 Disagree15

We lost to a poor united team, Albrighton best player for villa he was on his way a month a go, the cheap imports are not up to it, Westwood poor, yes Lambert out sick of young and hungry, give me good footballers someone with class, there's nothing to build on. villajk

Agree14 Disagree3

Mate, we are in no better a position than when he took over. He is building nothing. He's a bluffer
Lambert's main quality seems to have been that he isn't Mcleish

Agree11 Disagree11

I don't think I would suggest that Lambert be sacked as I'm sure he is doing his best with what he has and who else is there out there to replace him?
I just wish he would devise a method for playing at home other than the counter attack we use in away games and the defence still looks like a disaster waiting to happen. It's time that was sorted out once and for all.
Clarrie Blue.

Agree5 Disagree6

There are plenty of managers out there who'd be willing to take the reigns here if lambert was sacked. it would be the challenge of a lifetime getting villa back to where they should be (in top 6, competing in the cups and being far and away the best team in the 2nd city)
our squad of players right now is the worst selection we have had in as long as I can remember, we had luna baker clark and lowton at the back yesterday none of whom can actually defend which is ridiculous when you think 5 years ago we were solid with warnock, laursen, curtis davies and luke young, what a difference! our midfield is the worst in the league without doubt and is the main reason we are so terrible right now, as a pack they are non-cohesive and lack any kind of creativity and physicality this is the most frustrating thing when you watch us game after game. as for our "attack", well its non-existent isn't it?gabby may run all day long and throw his weight around but does he contribute anything at all in an attacking sense? how can he when his dribbling, passing, shooting, and movement is so poor. next, weimann, don't get me started! how did this boy ever pass a trial?he isn't a footballer more a headless chicken and the biggest waste of space in the entire squad along with KEA who'd be better off in a pub team! and as for benteke, we will be very very lucky to get 20 million for him now, we should have sold in the summer when the demand was massive. he should take only a small part of the blame for the teams demise though as he cannot do it on his own upfront and with our midfield, he will never get the service. 1 plus point, albrighton has looked good in his last couple of appearances and could be the man to inject a little but much needed creativity. he is a great crosser of the ball too so we need to get the ball wide for him to sling balls in the area at benteke.

Agree12 Disagree9

The fact that about 10,000 villa fans walked out of VP with a quarter of the match remaining tells you all you need to know about the seriousness of the situation here at the moment and despite being a bit better off points and position wise this season than last, the feeling is gloomier.

Agree14 Disagree8

You can talk methods, strategies, game-plans and tactics all day long, the sad reality is; if you don't have good enough players you will not succeed at this level. at least 6 of our starting 11 wouldn't get into any other premier league team. FACTS.

Agree9 Disagree7

PL is doing what he has been told. Get the wage bill down, buy some cheap players from Europe and try to form a team that can be respectable in the prem.
Lerner is the problem. He will not allow PL more than a few quid at a time. Was Benteke a fluke buy? I like to think that PL knew what he was doing.
Many of his other buys are not up to the grade but you get what you pay for and the lot would not cover £20m. If Lerner won't go then Lambert is shafted.
LERNER OUT.

Agree23 Disagree7

I am a fan of Lambert and support what he is doing. However that support will start to evaporate as time goes by and we still have not sorted out our defensive issues.

For the last 18 months we have been awful at the back. I really like Okore and he looked the part before his injury but Lambert has to take some blame for not buying another CB. Nathan Baker is not a premier league defender and never will be. His distribution is poor, his reading of the game is non existent and he lacks any pace to get him out of trouble. He should not be playing for our great club. i'm not too convined by Vlaar or Clark either and surely Lambert can see that these players are not good enough?! To spend 10m on both Helenius and Kozak when we already had Benteke/Weimann/Gabby/Bowery to play that solitary attacking role baffles me when he could have brought one of those and signed a further defender. There are players who are in the Championship and do nothing but defend who would improve our defence. Each goal against United was a result of poor defending, add into that Fulham/Everton/Albion/Spurs/Liverpool/Newcastle and this is all too common!

Lambert has to take some responsibility for picking these players as there has been money available to purchase a CB whose first thought is to clear his lines and not dally on the ball

Agree17 Disagree2

I'm defo frustrated with Lamberts tactics, player selection and transfer policy, we all knew at the start of the season we needed experience to help the younger players push us forward, we have to many players who are not yet good enough to start week in week out.
I'm still pissed off that Lambert turned down the chance to get Barry back.

In saying all that, I do think PL should be given until the end of the season at least.
Whoever says 18 months is enough to rebuild a club obviously has already forgotten about Sir Alex.

Right now we have all our key players out of form an playing nothing short of sh**.
Surely we can only improve, we're playing at 70% an still close to top 10, even if we improve 10% then I see us finishing 10th-12th.

The next four games will be key to Lambert keeping the support of the fans so I hope he's proactive in making sure we are looking to win games

>Scg87

Agree16 Disagree1

I firmly believe that even with our current squad we should never finish lower than eighth in the Premier League.
We are not good enough to finish above Manchester Utd, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton but no other side should finish above us. If they do, we have failed.
Clarrie Blue

Agree3 Disagree17

Lerner should leave Lambert should stay

Agree11 Disagree19

As much as I agree with most of the comments above, I believe we are still a work in progress and have improved on last year even if it's only a slight improvement. Lambert is a good manager and I think he will get it right, but for him to get it right he needs players that will give 100% on the pitch as already stated they are probably at 70% at best. However this 70% still looks better than the 40% given last season. Benteke to go! OK he's on a bad run of form every striker has been through it at some stage. I wouldn't be so quick to write him off. Ultimately we have a team that defends like I did when I was 9yr old and agree we should not have spent 7m on Kozak and spent that on a half decent defender. Hopefully Lerner/lambert will agree with the fans and buy a proven defender not a young up and coming star who will need 3 seasons to come good. Happy to see albrighton back playing for the Villa, always liked him as a player just need a few goals and assists from him to prove to the fans he's good enough. KEA should not be playing, but i'm starting to think differently about Delph could do with a few more 20 yarders. What ever happens i'm villa till I die and will back the boys 100%. Smithy82

Agree12 Disagree3

Lambert DID buy a defender and a VERY good one in Jores Okore - its not his fault he got injured! Lerner has to open his wallet or go! Lambert has signed some good players: Benteke, Okore, Vlaar, Westwood, Lowton, Guzan (got him to come back!), Bacuna -
Our problem is we don't have the quality to play the ball around at home, so we just go on the counter attack, when the away team's aren't in any pressure to push us, I just hope Lambert gets another season and some money and he WILL prove his doubters wrong. (yes I admit some of his tactics are a bit strange, but he can only work with what he has available!)

Agree10 Disagree2

My rother who is a p/r at the british embassy tells me that rapid Vienna are lining up a move to take weiman back to austri aand the club he supported as a child-discuss?

Agree2 Disagree10

Lambert brought one defender knowing full well that if he got injured we would be left with either Baker or Clark alongside Vlaar.

If by doing so he believed that Baker or Clark were good enough to cover (for a whole season) then his judgement really needs to be questioned.

He has made some positive signings and we have at times this season been brilliant going forward and the consistency will come with time, but it doesn't matter how good you are going forward if you can't defend you will lose too many games.

Im not saying get rid of him now, but maybe that he needs some help sorting the defence as he and his current backroom team clearly aren't doing the job. You can say 'it's not him making the mistakes it's the players' but it is him picking these players.

He has had more then enough money to improve the centre of defence (ahead of other areas he has strengthened). Okore is a great start but a one man wrecking machine at the back he is not (yet) but with him injured we are so so weak

Agree9 Disagree1

Honestly his buys are poor only one would make the bench in any prem team and he's off form, I believe give youth a chance but our own, not cheap imports, and 24yr old are not young, PL is not good enough for villa I would go with Glen Hoddle said this before, the best manager England. had except for those silly remarks

Agree1 Disagree10

Yes the last two games were poor, but we are in a much beter place without those like Bent, Ireland, Hutton, Dunne, Given. I want Villa to be pushing for European slots but that is not going to be this year. Also lay off Benteke. He is coming off a poor run, he kept us up last year. Don't forget that.

Agree9 Disagree2

Hoddle the best England manager ever?
You forgot about Sir Alf?
You forget Sir Bobby?
You forget Venables all achieved more with England.

And you obviously forgot the club jobs Hoddle has failed in.

I like Hoddle he talks a great game but his record doesn't back it up

>Scg87

Agree11 Disagree2

Sorry agree about Sir Alf, what did the other 2 win?no disrespect to Sir Bobby.

Agree1 Disagree10

Achieving something doesn't always mean winning trophies.
When I eluded to Robson an Venables achieving more than Hoddle I was referring to taking us further in WCs and having us playing some good football.

My point is, what exactly has Hoddle done since leaving England that would suggest he's a good manager, as far as I'm concerned he's failed in his last 3 jobs. Steve McLaren has achieved far more than Hoddle if you wanna talk about trophies lol

>Scg87

Agree8 Disagree2

Talking about playing good football everyone in the game rates Glen Hoddle of course us Villa fans have never seen that have we. when you mention S. McLaren I know you no nothing lol

Agree4 Disagree10

I think our midfield is worse than our defence. i'd like to see lambert play chris herd just behind the midfield to add some steel and determination as at the minute its embarrassing watching teams stroll through. KEA should be nowhere near villa park, he's useless. Would like to see delph play in a more attacking role as I feel he's our most creative player and also wouldn't mind bacuna playing higher up the pitch either.

Agree8 Disagree2

Simeon Slavchev is apparently the midfielder Lambert wants to bring in, would cost £2m, he's scored 10 goals in 17 matches this season and can play as a defensive, centre or attacking midfielder role.

Agree6 Disagree4

I would love to see this happen but there does seem to be rivals for his signature.

Agree3 Disagree4

Suggestion that Anthony Limbombe may sign in January. Young, talented, tricky winger you can slot in behind the striker. Not quite what we need but would come cheap and looks like a future star.

I expect villa to go back in for Gregory sertic this window.

Finch

Believable2 Unbelievable15

Sertic has scored a total of 4 goals in 101 games overall.
We already have several midfielders who can do that and we don't want another one thanks very much.
Clarrie Blue.

Agree10 Disagree3

I expect villa to bring in the kids that where loaned out maybe sign 1 person and asses the squad for the summer ahead to make a push slightly more u the table come 2014 - 2015

Agree2 Disagree10

I think Sertic has 5 goals in 15 games for Bordeaux and from what I've seen of him this season he looks like a creative AM which could be very useful right now.

In saying that I don't think we'll be going for him.

right guys I know you hear this rumor a lot and many will not believe, but expect to see a return of james milner to villa next summer, deal nearly happened this summer but fell through citys end and milner has told city and villa he wishes to return to us. my source is faulkner himself as a close friend sits in the executive area for villa games and has a close relationship with him.
VillaPope

Believable4 Unbelievable13

I am willing to some extent to believe Milner to be the type to accept a massive pay cut. But I still don't buy it

Agree9 Disagree2

He can't afford to take a pay cut. He only has £13m in the bank, as has Ash. Young.
How much money did we actually pay these two?
Question is that there are still several English players at the top clubs so why are ex-Villa players in the top 10 of English players.
beats me, how about you??

Not so much a heard rumour, but someone PL should be looking at, Michy Batshuayi from Standard Leige in Belgium, young player, only 20 and plays much like Gabby, very very pacey, already 12 goals in 17 games, probably pretty cheap still as well

Believable14 Unbelievable7

If he goes anywhere it will most likely be Arsenal.

Agree3 Disagree6

Ryan gauld is the man we want

Agree5 Disagree7

Gauld is far too small. We have already got rid of one miniature Scotsman in Bannan and we don't need another.
We need a big imposing presence in midfield not someone like Gauld.
Clarrie blue.

Agree4 Disagree2

{Ed003's Note - You sold Bannan to Palace a few months back =-O }

Is he really too small? Do you think grealish is too small or anyone else under 5ft ten?

Agree5 Disagree1

Its not necessarily size that matters. if any of u watch the villa u will know its guile and creativity that is non-existent in our side. its embarrasing we are the least creative team in the prem (even worse than bloody stoke now) i'm sorry but weimann, gabby, KEA and westwood were just terrible again yesterday and they couldn't help ANY other prem team as they contribute nothing whatsoever. if we survive this season then we need a complete overhaul in the summer or we WILL go down next year. yesterdays performance as a team and individually was similar to that of a league 1 side, sorry but anyone who disagrees with any of this needs to wake up soon

Agree10 Disagree3

Everything you say is true and we were indeed terrible. Being tired from the Southampton game was given as a reason for this by Lambert but that doesn't really hold water as Fulham had a difficult game against Tottenham on the same night.
We weren't helped though by an inept refereeing performance by Mike Dean with the penalty incidents. Otherwise we might have sneaked a draw. Why do our ex players always score against us?
Clarrie Blue.

Agree8 Disagree2

With all due respect to the person who queried my assertion that Gauld is too small, as well as being small he looks about 14.
If we wanted a small Scottish midfielder who looks about 14 we should have kept Barry Bannan.
Anyway it seems Gauld has just signed a new contract with his present club.
Clarrie Blue.

Agree2 Disagree2

Just because he's the same height as bannan doesn't mean he's the exact same player as bannan he's better imo. And we don't need a big midfielder we need a number 10

Agree5 Disagree2

Yes we need steel, but it's paramount we get a creative AM No10 Omar Abdulahram his our man, check him out sceptics before you assume.

noah

Agree1 Disagree8

I don't think we're good enough to be playing with a "number 10" right now, teams who play with number 10s have players around them who do all the hard work like tackling, closing down and tracking back, basically we need midfielders in the mould of I Taylor.

Most important thing is that Lambert makes us hard to beat because right now we are to easy to play against, united players were jogging past out midfield for 90 mins, let's add that steel an aggression
