2 senior players from French outfit SM Caen are supposedly having a trial with Villa, most likely one is defender Thomas Heurtaux who was linked with a move to England last season.
Think Heurtaux might be heading to Spain? I remember seeing him linked to us and Blackpool last season, wouldn't be surprised if the other player on trial is M'Baye Niang as he's been linked for a while now, exciting player apparently.
M'Baye Niang is a class youngster and would be a great talent for us to develop. He could be the new french 'Drogba' if he develops right

Randy Lerner will pay Roberto Martinez, £4.5m per season to be Aston Villa's new manager.
Martinez has also been given the heads up to lure Victor Moses & Mohammed Diame to Villa Park with him.
Funds will be made available (around £30-40m) to rebuild the Villa squad.

I must disagree with the Villa fan who thinks that we will pay off McCleish to pay Martinez twice as much and then spend 40m on new players in order to finish 10th! This is real pie in the sky. We have gone through cut backs for a reason, its pointless to make losses in order to achieve nothing. In reference to the Norwich fan we will not be expanding our stadium until we reach certain heights. There are, however, two million people living within just 10 miles or so of Villa park whereas Norwich is quite a small city in a lowly populated county. Norwich are really well supported by their community and always have been (league 1 attendances of around 20k is great). You may well see growing crowds for a while but expectations change and people will be less happy watching Norwich struggle in the Premiership as the years go on.
Realistic views, Villa may sack McCliesh. Will not spend any more than 15m net in the summer which will still be under a period of wage control. Norwich will expand their stadium if they stay up but may find a building project costly when it adds 10 000 empty seats if they (and they really may) get relegated in the next 4 years.

A rumor on twitter is that Villa will have a brown/silver away kit next season, apparently Italian sportswear company 'Macron' will be the supplier and the shirt template will be the safe as the current S.C. Braga away.
Coventry City had a brown kit in the mid 70's, if this is true can imagine it having a real retro feel, kinda like the current spurs kit, sounds alright actually!

Martinez is a decent manager but we definitely have to at least enquire about Paul Lambert. The board would get the best of both worlds. Roy Hodgson would apparently be open to a Villa approach due to the bigger club prospect & the much higher finances.

Gus Poyet is being lined up for Villa job at the end of the season whether Villa stay up or go down. Will be announced on Monday or Tues once the loose ends of McGleish termination finalised and Brightons season is over. This story doing the rounds amongst journalists in London.
Would like to believe this one but I can't. Poyet was widely reported to have turned down Wolves before their relegation became inevitable so I doubt he'd agree to join Aston Villa - & definitely not until safety is confirmed anyhow. Gus Poyet's said himself he'll go nowhere unless a 'top' club came calling & then he'd have to give it some thought. Sadly, Aston Villa's not a 'top' club at present.

Not quite 4,000 down on the average gate from average last season - was on average 3,297 up to (and including) Stoke game. If gates fall again next season, I'd say more of the drop will be due to lack of casual sales rather than season ticket sales. Either way, good football will sell tickets, regardless of the manager, and fans deserve better than they've been 'treated' to this season. Onwards and upwards. Things can only get better... Or maybe not: lashing rain here at Villa Park and no Stephen Ireland in the 18. King Carlos captaining the lightweight side. Hobson's choice or what? Wah!

I think we should get a manager who we show our support to for at least 4 seasons. McCleish was an odd choice and may well have to go. However Villa fans.... WE MUST allow the new manager some slack, we need to cut our wages and re-build this will lead to below par performances for at least another year. If we get 12m for Gabby sell 5-6 others and bring in some new players then okay lets just be realistic and calm. Its all very well going bankrupt to finish 6th but its pointless really. Forget petty rivalries, allow other clubs to overspend to finish at the other end of mid-table - we need a long term strategy !

Another rumor going about is that Luke Wilkshire is prepared to switch to Villa Park from Dynamo Moscow.

Ed is it true we are meants to be offering n zogbia for oliver giroud. Also what have you heard about benjamin stamboulli {Ed002's Note - It was expected that Giroud would stay within France with a move to PSG but performances this season have seen Lyon, Marseille, Valencia, Newcastle, Villarreal, Arsenal and particularly Malaga show an interest. At one point Nicollin discussed the interest in the player saying Newcastle were too minor a club and Arsenal would have to pay 50M euros, if not 60M euros for the player. The reality is that he will move for perhaps 20M euros or so in the summer as it will be tough for Montpellier to persuade him to stay. Interest at the moment is still being shown by Arsenal and Bayern Munich have made an approach to Montpellier. The player declared an interest in a move to Italy but much will depend on the price - I don't see Marseille being able to pay enough, nor perhaps Lyon. Stambouli will probably not move this summer.}

Ed who are the possible winger target aside from the relegated sides, we've been linked with mcgeady which is probably unlikely. Any interest in matt phillips we must have been scouting blackpool with the gilks links. Any targets in other leagues. thanks {Ed001's Note - yes Matty Phillips has been extensively scouted, he was asked about last summer too but Blackpool refused to discuss him. I very much doubt they will discuss him with Villa this summer either, they would to a team in Europe, purely because of not letting his head get turned, but I don't think they would listen to any other offers. McGeady has been of interest for ages, he was unhappy out there, he didn't like not being able to go out without an armed guard etc. His reps tried to get him a deal with Newcastle, which never came about and I have heard nothing since. The main issue seems to be that he wants to be as far north as possible to be close to home, allied to his high wage demands.}

Ed who are some likely left back targets i read of Van Aanholt below but havent seen him mentioned in the press. Has there been any interest in adam matthews of celtic. Also is nathaniel clyne was mentioned as a target is he set for manu... thanks {Ed001's Note - other than the ones I have previously said, I don't know of any. There have been no new ones brought to my attention by a good source, though I did see a link with the left back from Villareal. Not convinced it was solid info, more just because it is know Villa are chasing a left back and Villareal are in money troubles and have to sell. Makes it easy to link their players with all and sundry. I have not heard of any recent interest in Matthews, there was a fair bit in him a while ago, when he was a little unsettled, but I don't know if the situation has changed and he is now settled up in Scotland. Clyne is very much a target, he does seem likely to end up at United, but you never know, he might prefer to go where he is more likely to play regularly.}

Mariga couldnt make the grade in seria A with inter. Y wud we want him. N mcgeady... i saw many spl fans calling him a one trick pony a couple of years ago. Frank Fielding is being lined up as a replacement for Brad Guzan who is apparently being shown the door along with Carlos Cuellar, Emile Heskey, Fabian Delph and finally Charles N'Zogbia who should be involved in a swap deal with Montpellier for striker Olivier Giroud.
Other targets/replacements include Dedryck Boyata from Manchester City, Leroy Fer from FC Twente, and finally Matt Jarvis from Wolves. Brett Holman of AZ is already confirmed. also don't be surprised to see Stephen Ireland leave, Liverpool is apparently a possible destination.

Could see us getting jarvis, but the rest are all unrealistic.... most those players havent been at their club for 12 months yet. N giroud has arsenal among many clubs after him. Expect jarvis (if wolves sell), a creative striker simillar to keane, a new cb if cuellar goes like dann or johnson and if guzan goes expect siegrist to step up to 2nd choice.

FORMER Celtic star Aiden McGeady could return to British football with Aston Villa this summer.

I disagree kranjcar would be a great loan signing for us. We desperately need a set piece taker who can be in the first team week in week out.
