IRELAND new boy Jeff Hendrick has emerged as a transfer target for struggling Aston Villa.
The 20-year-old Derby County midfielder was called up to Giovanni Trapattoni's senior squad for the first time this week for next month's friendly against Poland.
Despite being just 20, Hendrick has made more than 80 appearances for the Rams and is a strong competitor in a physical league, something that has impressed Trapattoni when he watched the midfielder at close quarters over the last two weeks.

Ed can you just tell us all for sure that we have money or not?
Because I think heitinga would be a great buy he could play cdm? {Ed001's Note - it is a case of sell Bent to buy others, mostly. I am not sure if that is because the money is not there or Lerner is not sure about backing Lambert though.}

Lerner backing Lambert as the manager althogh is unwilling to make any transfer funds available and is willing to go down to to trim the wage bill as he believes Lambert will be able to bring us back up to the prem

Can't change the attitude of the players, anyone coming in will be down trodden, can't change many in a week. May as well leave it till the summer knowing what league Villa will be playing in. Hope there are provisions in place for the likes of Ireland and Bent and n'zogbia who are all not up for the fight, they certainly don't deserve to earn what they do.

Agree with the above. No player will come to us unless they know what league we will be in next season. No premier league player will join us, which means we will only recruit from the lower leagues and that hasn't exactly worked. Our players will gel together but by then we would have got relegated. Lambert seems tactically clueless at times and Lerner might as well sell for all the interest he has anymore. I appreciate he is trying to turn Villa in to a sound financial concern but it isn't working and when we get relegated we will lose millions.

I think recently nzogbia has been brilliant. Maybe db9 and Ireland could take a leaf out of his book. Nzogbia has performed imo all year take in account he's been injured for the majority.

Nzogbia has been brilliant are you rubbishting me do you forget that he cost over 10 million he should be playing ten times better than what he is at the minute weimann has been our best player over recent weeks

I did not know if Distin had signed a new contract thought he was settled at Everton. Heitinga not so and is a team mate at Holland with Vlaar may have more legs

He may have signed a new contract, but that does not mean that he will be staying at Everton.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert could land a surprise job in Major League Soccer with New York Red Bulls if the axe falls on his reign with the claret and blues.

Hi sunderland fan like to see you stop up think PL will do a good job if giving time yous have 2 players you should have cashed in on BENT and charles n'zogbia don't start most weeks so why keep hold of them ? lets hope daft harry comes in and takes them off your hands good luck

To above Sunderland fan, I think its more a case of no one else wants them. Both have shown the odd glimpse this season of what they can do but not enough to attract other teams
