If the rumours about Hutton are true, then it is a disgrace . No matter how many times he has been kicked down, no matter how much abuse he's received, he has knuckled down and been the ultimate proffesional . He should be given another 12-18 months, with his effort and attitude, he will be missed . He has shown that Taylor isn't good enough, so that's another player to buy . You can spend millions on a player, but no money can buy dedication and character like Hutton has shown . Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

When Villa get back to the Premier league Hutton will not be good enough his been ok for us but his not gona be premier League class his getting old his pace is dropping the championship is his level. I do love Alan Hutton but we need younger better players for the Premier League. You can't keep him forever everything has a expiry date. don't get to upset if we do go up all this team will prob be sold anyway.

Agree 100% WTW, we need to sign someone premier league ready and then start to bring Bree through. Would love to see us get Kieran Trippier or someone similar. All this means is Millwall last game of the season is Alan Hutton day!

He has earnt the right to stay, even if as a squad player. He stood by the club, the club should stand by him.
I accept he isn’t the best player in the world at his position. but he is the best at villa. In 2 positions.

No time for sentiment if we want to be successful, we have to bring in a right back if we want to stay in the premier league because non at the club are good enough. So we bring one in then use as back up either a 33 year old declining player because he’s always had a brilliant attitude and outstanding commitment, or blood a 20 year old who has potential to be the future of the club at that position. I love Hutton personally and do think he’s a decent player, however he is on the decline and we can’t afford to stand by players because of sentimental reasons if we want to be competitive next season, Look at all the top clubs, Chelsea for example, wouldn’t give lampard or terry new contracts because they simply wasn’t good enough anymore, to be successful you have to be ruthless, there’s no place for emotion. That being said I’d love us to get him on the coaching team, and if he does leave it will be sad.

I agree to a point. But the Chelsea point is mute, as both offered 1 year extensions on lesser pay.
This is what we should offer, sentiment should play a part, as loyalty is lost in football, he has shown the club this, the club owes it to him.

I find it hard to disagree because I like him so much, however it seems these sorts of decisions have been our down fall so often, keeping players on the pay roll when really it’s not what’s best for the club. If we’re giving him 30k a week at the cost of not strengthening in another position it’s not the right thing to do, then we’ve got another ageing player on substantial wage. If it were up to me I’d offer him a coaching role with the first team because his attitude and commitment is second to none, go and buy a proven premier league quality right back and use Bree as second fiddle. Side note: not sure about terry but just checked and Chelsea definitely didn’t offer Lampard a new deal, there was lots of back and forth are they aren’t they, then they were said to be doing so but we’re waiting to confirm Mourinho and Lampard didn’t wait and went to New York.

Fair point! I thought they had, and can’t be arsed to google!
I’m gutted re Hutton, the way he was treated by the club, yet kept his head down, and after Paul Lambert tried to ruin him, yet again he kept going and forced his way back. I genuinely feel the club owe it to him.

But. your point re the payroll, ageing players etc is valid, and I find it hard to have an argument against, however, I say again I think the club owe Hutton, and I still think he is the best fall back at the club on both flanks. You can’t blame him for the relegation season. (If I remember that season, I actually think he was the only shining light) I do like the idea of player coach. just for his passion and drive.
