Have been ruminating over the last week about Ron Saunders and his struggle with Dementia. So sad and really hope at some time we could have a statue at Villa Park to celebrate his greatness for the club. When Stan petrov was ill we had 19 minute applause and would love to have 81st minute applause for Ron Saunders but how do we get something like this off the ground? A true hero for the club and should be celebrating his achievements UTV.

Nick I echo your sentiments about Ron saunders.
A true great in our proud past,
He deserves some think from villa to show what he did for the club.
I've always thought it was wrong to name a stand after a owner like the Doug Ellis stand,
I liked Doug Ellis but I think a great manager or a player is better for that,
So why not a stand named after him.
That's my choice of remembrance of a great manager and a great man,
And I wish him well, in his fight with this terrible disease.

Villa4eva, sadly people don't get better from this cruel illness, however families get support from people's kind wishes like yours, it definitely puts things in to perspective, football is just a game and whilst we all moan, life is far more important.

Have emailed the club and hope message will get through to the powers that be? Many people can live well and a have a good quality of life despite their dementia but over time the progress of the illness can be very disabling with people needing full nursing care, spot on about family support. Reports about Ron are that he has lived a good few years at home with his family with this illness but recently has become so dependent that needs 24hr care in a home. Dementia does not respect greatness, class or status. Really good to hear others sentiments in replying posts. UTV PS Any statue must have the words “would you bet against us” on the base! Classic Saunders quote!
