Delph having medical at MCFC tomorrow.
This means that Guyeye will cost about the same as the fee from City.
Shame he is on his way but that's the way it goes.
LFC still looking at Ben and probably will try to sort a deal but Sherwood will not move unless the deal is right for AVFC.

Although I'm gutted that we're to lose Delph and Benteke I think we need to put this into perspective. Delph is a great player at our level but he's not irreplaceable. As for Benteke, as unplayable as he is in some games he can also be stroppy when the ball isn't passed to him and I feel that this year with all the hype about him he could throw his toys out and believe he's better than our club. To get £40m for the both of them is decent business. Especially considering Delph could have gone for free. Both players leave us at an awful time for them because they're under so much pressure to make their national teams and Delph will struggle at City and bigger players than Christian have failed to live up to expectations at Anfield.
How many of you would swap Delph and Benteke (£40m) for Townsend, cabaye and Austin (£40m approx). I know that Cabaye has gone to palace and I'm gutted we weren't in for him but it shows that there's better out there if we look.
I'm happy for us to clear out the dead wood and get rid of those that feel they're too good for the claret and blue and spend this precious wages on players commited to our wonderful club. Players I'd be after are
Austin (£15m) Remy (£10m) Townsend (£15m) michael Dawson (£4m) Avami (£9m) Praet (£10m) Schmeichel (£10m).
£73m spent but around £45m of that will have come in. £28m spend plus gueye. But we have a quality squad rather than a team of cheap hopefuls. Sorry for the long msg.

well said its gutting to lose him but as you say he is quite easily replaced

Ashley Young left Aston villa as an England international but soon lost his place. The same goes for Stewart Downing. The last couple of England managers have regularly visited Villa Park to watch our players in what has been a number of difficult and at times awful seasons yet our players are in the frame. Even Tom Cleverly got on the verge of a recall but they all seem to think they can do better only to become bit part players. Even James Milner has struggled to hold down a regular place for both club and country. The only player to bet yet themselves was Gareth Barry. I hate that our best players leave but at the same time I'm happy to keep doubling our money when the mercenaries want to leave.
I have faith in Tim to bring in hungry players but also with a bit of quality too. He doesn't strike me as the type of man to accept 2nd best or to buy someone to make up the numbers. My worry is that if he is successful over the next 2/3 years then Man City will want him too. At least Liverpool won't want him as they normally look at Southampton first.

So Delph is pretty much confirmed as leaving and Gueye completed, replacement sorted.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

10 Jul 2015 19:16:17
I think that's why delph has jumped ship could see gueye as a serious threat to his position in the side, so thought why don't i double my wages and sit on the bench at city.

So much for loving the club this is my club I want to sign for life, bye don't let the door hit you on the way out, traitor

10 Jul 2015 20:16:36
Well fabian I really hope it works out for you at man city. I really hope you do not spend your best years sat on the bench behind players signed for silly money watching your hopes of England playing time sink with the weight of your wallet. I also hope that your lovely words in January, that really made football fans all over the country think there was loyalty spring up and bite you. Villa will be stronger without a bullshitter like you.

10 Jul 2015 20:26:32
Yeah that speech is what's made this so bitter! Sterling will follow Delph to City and then the scouse will come for Benteke. At least the our recruitment can properly start.

Agree2 Disagree2

10 Jul 2015 21:27:25
Actually thinking about it now - he might have been forced by the club to do that speech to keep the fans and the dressing room positive for the rest of the season. And to be fair it did keep us more upbeat. We are probably being a bit harsh picking that out and tarnishing his character with it.

Agree0 Disagree3

10 Jul 2015 23:15:55
Exactly what I said in earlier posts delph was only being loyal to villa by signing, so we could get money from a sale rather than him walking away on a free!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 07:47:29
Lads that's complete bull***t! No one gets forced to say anything they don't want to say and wow I'll be loyal to villa and sign a new deal so that u can get 8mill for me next season complete boll** he knew what he was doing same with Big Ben doing everything that looks good but behind the scenes don't give a sh*t

Agree3 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 14:51:58
But he could have not signed a new deal, let his contract run out and leave for free. Surely that would have guaranteed him a move?

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 17:32:21
So delphs signing for man city, what a, ** better not swear. can't see him playing more than a handful of games. money money money. give it till xmas and he'll be crying about what he as done.

I honestly am gutted

10 Jul 2015 17:45:31
Better for them to move on if they are not 100% AVFC, Benteke will be gone as soon as Sterling goes to City, I want to see TS build his own team full of winners not losers with delusions of grandeur holding the club to ransom or threatening to leave every transfer window! Onwards and upwards! VTID

10 Jul 2015 17:50:00
I'll laugh my ass off if they sign Pogba now. Like so many others he will rot on the bench/reserves and he can wave bye bye to his England place if he isn't getting much game time. I really thought he would end up being one of the main figureheads for England at the Euro's and the next world cup but others are bound to step up and push for his place. I don't mind so much that he is leaving but that big speech mid season about loyalty and the players being like brothers was obviously rubbish and the disingenuousness of it really pisses me off.

Shame about the miniscule amount of money involved, but at least he isn't going on a free and if players don't want to play for the club then good riddance.

Cheers villadave let's look forward to a new era with players who respect the club and want to play/ win for the club and supporters.

Agree5 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 18:56:01
I think we all knew that Delph and Benteke would not be with us for the start of next season so I am assuming that Tim as already got plans for replacing them both, so let's just wait and see what the end of the transfer window brings and what becomes of the takeover before getting too disheartened. :-)

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 19:27:29
Yes Delph has been great for the last 2/3 seasons but has been poor before that. I think Delph and Villa are a good fit but he will struggle at Citeh, maybe he should ask some people for advice may I suggest

Scott Sinclair
Adam Johnson
Gareth Barry
Jack Rodwell

All of the above were shining lights for their respective clubs and were used by Citeh to fill their homegrown quota. Sound familiar Fabian??????

Season 2017/2018 Delph will not be at City, I can almost guarantee it.

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 19:32:00
I am very happy Joker, as Smudger said if they don`t want to wear the shirt get rid, nobody is bigger than the club.
We will be a better side once all the imports have settled, we have done nothing with the ones we are getting rid of, so all I can say is good luck to the departures and “COME ON YOU LIONS”

Agree8 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 20:56:27
Agreed villadave, we were indeed a bottom club with the players that we had, a lot of new blood was and still is needed but things may well turn out for the better and I am still looking forward to next season and remain optimistic.

10 Jul 2015 17:20:34

They could probably have done a little better with the buyout clause but at least he isn't going on a free.

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 17:53:16
I don't think you understand the situation. In January Villa approached Delph to sign a new contract, he basically said I want to leave but instead of going for free will sign a contract which states Villa have to sell for a fee of £8m if a big club comes in.
Villa probably said make it £20m, Delph said £8m take it or leave it.

Did anyone think he would actually sign a new contract?

Yes he will sit on the bench, yes he's gone for the money, yes he's stupid but let's all be honest it was obvious for the day we agreed to sign Gueye for £9m Delph was off.
He helped us stay up last year so we can't really complain too much in my opinion!

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 18:12:00
Don't worry people I still have faith the takeover will happen and we will have 40 mil to spend from the sales of Delph and big ben plus about another 50 mil from new owner. I might have blind faith but I still feel it's happening. I think it's all down at mo ant looking bad but we will get good news and a big lift.

Agree3 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 18:14:21
Disappointing but expected, got £10m for him and had a season out of him, stayed in Prem League and went to Wembley twice! Thanks for the memories but tarra. If we lose FD, CB and RV just remember we were the worst team in the PL not to go down with those 3, so changes may make us harder to beat as will be lot of new players and system?

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 18:17:30
I am not complaining Kenye32, in fact I have never been that much of a Delph fan.
My posts on here show my feelings about him, he could and should do a lot better with the ball when he has it, instead of running round in circles and losing the ball or disappearing up his own backside.
He works hard for sure, but we will be no worse off without him.

Agree3 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 19:42:08
Sorry Villadave, my post was aimed at Villanick for saying someone needs there ass kicked for the £8m release clause.
They actually need praise for putting it there in the first place, otherwise no £8m and no Gueye coming in.

I think Delph was a hard worker but no where near Man City standard. Like all players looked good for us but not irreplaceable.

Only thing I worry about is who will our Captain be next season now Delph and Vlarr are gone. Not enough experience and quality to lead the team forward.

Let's hope money fromBenteke sake is reinvested and quickly so the team can gel before next month.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 20:34:11
That’s ok Kenye32, good point.
How about Richards for captain, has the right mentality and a nice bloke with it, a good leader and a winner I think.

A bookies has suspended betting on Delph going to Man city. Disappointed if that happens, for Villa and for Delph

Believable0 Unbelievable1

10 Jul 2015 15:39:46
I really can't see him leaving but it's a funny ole game ye never know. Does anyone know why Joe Bennett isn't on the squad sheet ( avfc official site) but it has been updated to include Bunn??

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 15:40:29
Delph didn't go to Portugal, everyone expects the worst so bet on him going to City, odds lower, betting gets suspended and we all sit here with squeaky bums. Means nothing. hopefully

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 16:09:21
To tell you the truth, I wouldn't be disappointed if he's sold to Manchester City for £10 million. I really don't think that he has done enough to prove to me that he's good enough for Aston Villa. Besides Villa needs the money from both Delph and Benteke, another player I wouldn't be disappointed for leaving. If Villa received £42,5 million for both players, then Sherwood could sign at least 4-5 quality players. We would need a CB, a LB, an AMR, an AMC and a ST.
