Who do we think is the best midfielder in the Championship? IMO it's Shelvey.
Any thoughts chaps?

10 Nov 2016 20:54:28
Shelvey good when you give him time, useless when you close him down early. I prefer Lansbury, or Hughes the young lad from Derby, both attacking, can defend, every pass in the locker and know when to just move it quickly, perfect for the championship. Shelveys good don't get me wrong but more suited to the prem. oh I nearly forgot Westwood head and shoulders above them all;)

Good shout Chris 👍.

11 Nov 2016 00:18:44
Best player i would have to agree Shelvey great passing abilty can open up teams on his own. I think we have 1 of the worst midfield in the league but bruce is doing a fab job getting any points with our midfield feel really sorry for him.

11 Nov 2016 00:33:51
Agree Mr SKIA. 👍 I'm sure SB will sort it in Jan. We can launch a real challenge with a much better midfield.

11 Nov 2016 04:27:44
will Hughes for me.

11 Nov 2016 08:22:48
If it was up to me I'd get Lansbury and Hughes at all cost, they'd both come because things that have happened at their club, sort a striker for while AFCON is on, and a right back and I think we're on our way to automatic promotion, if we could pinch a Robbie Brady, forrestieri or knockeart then all the better to add something different.

11 Nov 2016 09:43:46
Even with our midfield as it is I still think we can nick it at Brighton.
It's certainly a big game for us. If we can avoid defeat against a team in form great. A win, even greater.
I'll be there anyway in my Speedos and flip-flops so I hope the weather picks up. 😎.

I think Hughes is over rated
Dale Stephens one of best for me and shelvey.

Did anybody see the under 23 against celtic last night? Elphick was rubbish we wasted so much money in the summer iam gutted Rdm brought any old rubbish tishbola gabby and aly cissoko weren't great either. 100 million in to seasons and this is the best we come up with makes me feel so sad!

10 Nov 2016 14:57:13
Chester kodja McCormack adomah and Jedinak - all summer signings must take up 80% of what's spent, and it's arguable their all a success. I wouldn't draw back to last year, that was a different board wasting and different owners money, so don't worry about that now.

10 Nov 2016 15:27:17
We spent more money than newcastle mate they brought 10 in so who do you think done the better business? Ross McCormack hasn't been a success he hadnt scored enough goals. jury still out on Jedinak.

10 Nov 2016 16:47:33
I would say Villa did much better business - Newcastle are going to run away with this division and were always going to be huge favourites but I don't think you can blame recruitment for the position we find ourselves in - If Bruce had been in from Day 1 I can assure you we would be within touching distance of Newcastle. I genuinely think our recruitment and our player retention was excellent in the summer. For an assault on the championship. I personally would have liked to see us bring in players that could transition to the PL if promoted but one step at a time I suppose.

10 Nov 2016 19:58:35
Plus if Newcastle had of had Rafa from the start of last season they probably wouldn't have gone down. We had more work to do, a takeover going on and a manager who was starting from scratch without the back end of last seasons premier league to assess the squad. We were no where near as likely as Newcastle to hit the ground running.

10 Nov 2016 20:14:03
Agree Andy. Also Newcastle spent about 40m. last January, when they bought Shelvey, and STILL went down.

10 Nov 2016 20:59:41
MSKIA - you was talking about our summer business and when you look at the successes - Gollini, Chester, Jedinak, kodja, adomah I think overall it was a success. Players like McCormack and Tshibola will come good in time. Don't understand comparing our window to theirs, they have probably spent about £120 mil in the last 3 transfer periods, and their in the same division, yes their running away with it but they already had a world class manager and the shapings of a strong squad. In our current strongest 11, 8/ 11 are new players, and without tempting fate we are starting to hit form and moving up the table, so did we have a successful window? Yes we did.

11 Nov 2016 00:32:32
gollini is still a bit dodgy for me jedinak legs have gone an flys around forcing us not to play him tshibola don't play so i can't judge him. But the rest i would say been average but 50 million is a lot of cash i feel we could have done a little better but bruce will fix it he knows class. To me in the summer villa didn't have a plan they brought odds and ends. We have way to many strikers so we play 1 upfront and the rest on the wing which isn't fair ayew mcCormack even kodjia have played out wide when anybody with a brain would tell you there strikers. Elphick our captin is crap so no not a good summer i don't think bruce will put it right for 1 we are 2 nice to play!

11 Nov 2016 08:25:08
Sorry can't agree because if we're in play offs come January 1st, every point you have made is irrelevant.

11 Nov 2016 08:42:12
I agree with Chris that, overall, our summer business was good. Remember we needed a whole squad not just half a dozen players.
But for me RDM didn't do enough to strengthen the Centre midfield.
That's where our soft underbelly is. So I also agree with Mr SKIA that we are a bit too nice to play against.

11 Nov 2016 09:18:10
Newcastle have a mid-table Premier League squad and a world class manager - let's be honest, that Newcastle team is not a Championship side whereas you could argue Villa have been a Championship side in spirit and quality for 3 or 4 years. We needed a total overhaul of playing staff while also retaining a number of key players - I think, with the exception of Gueye, we managed to do that very successfully. We aren't where we are because of a poor transfer window, that is down to the fact that we got our managerial appointment wrong, that now has been rectified so I fully expect us to push up the league. A win at Brighton and we could potentially go 10 points off automatic promotion and 2 points off the playoffs. And I fully expect us to spend in January. Things are looking up!
