Having watched a fair bit of the Champions League this season and seen how the likes of Newcastle have done, it strikes me that if we qualify and we want to compete in the latter stages of the competition then we will need to add even more quality than we have now. Even if we sign a right back forward and keeper in January I think we will need at least another 4 top quality players to give us a chance of competing

LOTM, totally agree just imagine if our injury status meant we had to field last nights team in our run in fighting for Euro qualifying next season, I wouldn't fancy our chances.

I'm sure we will as soon as FFP allows us to. In Unai we trust. And always remember Rome wasn't built in a day. We are on a journey.

I agree 56 however the key thing for me is how patient Unai will be, he is obviously ambitious and unless we are competing at the top level then when the big boys come calling we are vulnerable to losing him.

For me although I would love to finish top 4 I think europa league would be the best place for us next year and continue to build the club and the team, unless of coarse we win the league which is a completely different prospect. first or fifth are my favoured finishing positions.

I think we need Champions League so we can attract that next level of player.
Smart deals can be done when you have the lure of Champions League. Newcastle's deals haven't been smart, the majority of their spend was on players who can't play consistently for one reason or another. The extra games also shows Howe's weakness as a manager, the injuries aren't really bad luck when you look at the level of intensity they are required to maintain.
I think we'll see a couple of £30-60m players and a couple of £10-20m players come in if we qualify but they'll be players Emery knows can do the job his way rather than whoever been in the papers the most.
