Sylla and Dawkins can replace Bannan and Delph and the midfield more of a barrier before the defense instead of our midfield being non existant scared to tackle

Everytime I catch the fonz playing he's doing well. They play him left wing so if you are basing it on goals per game ed don't. {Ed003's Note - True he starts there but the system they play, the front 3 interchange,I'm a B'pool fan btw so I have based my opinion on watching him mate.}

He has scored a few goals though which is more than can be said for a few of our players!

Sylla has no experience an very much unproven an I'd be surprised if he starts more than 2-3 games this season, he hasn't been signed to start games, he's simply not good enough right now, maybe in 2-3 seasons he'll turn in too a quality player, but you thinking he's gunna step up too this level strait away is laughable!

French midfielder Yacouba Sylla has secured his move to Aston Villa from Ligue 2 outfit Clermont Foot on a three-and-a-half year deal.

Villa boss Paul Lambert has made the defensive-minded France Under-21 international his first signing of the transfer window as he bids to drag the club out of the relegation zone in the second half of the season.
And, having completed his medical on Thursday morning, Sylla penned his deal in time to be considered for Saturday's Premier League clash with Everton at Goodison Park.

You might add IF Villa are relegated. Not sure why Lambert would sell a young player such as Clark especially if he feels he is worthy of captaincy.

I would imagine he is not on a high wage and deemed a valuable part of young team. . . despite his obvious troubles this season.

Benteke will only be sold if Man City come in with 25mil this window, and as it is the last day of the window, I doubt Villa would even be able to spend the incoming transfer fee in a few hours. . . so that's not happening.

Most, if not all of these "deals" are totally dependent on Villa´s survival in the premiership.

And if Villa are relegated, would we seriously miss any of these apart from Benteke???

Every team at the bottom have strengthened their squad - pssibly not Southampton who changed their manager. I thought Villa would sign nobody but instead they have signed a nobody. RL has obviously thought it not worth investing even if they lose out on the 20 million TV money. There were players there who would have strengthened in areas Villa need it. Even loan deals so that if or when relegation comes they are not stuck on the wage bill. Give the fans a bit of hope. Unknown French youngster or Huddlestone, for instance? The problem then when the drop comes, can you see the team with a few key departures winning at places like Millwall, Bolton, Watford, Middlesborough and so on. is this a better team than ones who have gone down such as Wolves, Bolton? A mystery signing (after sylla) will be dependant on Stephen warnock leaving the club. Exciting times on the transfer font at villa. Maybe a little too late.

Don't no anything about him really, apart from he is a France u21 international but udinese and Stuttgart have been watching him so who knows, and anything is better than nothing, benteke was a shot in the dark an that worked so let's see how it goes

If lambert thinks he's good enough it's good with me. He's certainly physically fit lets just see if he can handle himself technically. If warnock goes expect another btw. We can stay up!!

Just heard villa will sign diame for 4mil it was originally going to be 3.5 plus warnock but he has chosen to sign for Leeds .

Right now for a shock villa will complete the signing of d Bentley for 2mil but the big news is villa have agreed a fee for j Pennet now this as totally baffled me as I don't believe he is any better than albrighton but because lambert wants to play gabby up front and and zogbia has been moved into the hole lambert is interested in the both wingers

Leeds United are in advanced talks over the proposed signing of left-back Stephen Warnock from Aston Villa.

United and Villa appear close to reaching a deal which will allow Warnock to take up an 18-month contract at Elland Road.

An agreement has not yet been finalised but Villa are expected to sanction a free transfer in return for a switch which removes Warnock's £40,000-a-week salary from their wage bill.

Apparently Emmanuel pogatetz is set to have a chance to join villa after we are making a bid (apparently)

I just don't understand anymore first of all we had 10mill to spend but now in a recent interview someone asked lambert 'are we likely to see any players joining villa by the end of January?' And lambert responded 'not really, no'

So why are we always being linked with people it's pointless because there is no chance they are going to join

Faulkner seems a bit scared to ask for anything.

RL has increased his wealth by a further £800m this year.

I'd be amazed if he quit. Not in his DNA. Aside from anything else, it would be absolute career suicide to jump with the club at its lowest ebb. Still think all we need is a strong ball winning midfielder, someone to sit in front of back 4 and offer support, every time a team break up our attack the middle of the park is empty for them to run into. Need someone like (hate to add) Joey Barton, or Schneiderlin of Southampton (he was everywhere last night break up play)

Schneiderlin would never go to villa. It would be a sideways/ backwards step at the moment. I'm saying this as a villa fan

I like Barton as a player, he's an all round good player, he can pass, tackle, read the game but more importantly he's a strong charecter who doesn't bow to no one on an off the pitch, who's leadership on the pitch would make all the difference to us, but I can understand why he would not be welcome at villa park, so if not Barton then someone like him is a must!

Another reason why I don't think Barton will be a possible signing is because I get a strong feeling PL does not like strong charecter's or strong personalities in his squad which I think has been one of his biggest mistakes so far.

Hurd an Clark done the holding midfield role last season an even this season have done it at times, an they didn't solve that problem, quite honestly their are not good enough, we need players with aggression, who can tackle an pass, but more importantly we need someone with strong charecter who won't be intimidated by opposition players

If Dunn could get fit he would fit in in front of the back 4, a bit like McGrath did some years back. McGrath hardly trained as his knees were shot but he was able to play 90 minutes. At the time he was amazing and we need an amazing character to join together the see hildren on the pitch.

I heard it from another fan, tbh I don't know if he said it as a rumour or something he believed, just wandered if any truth in it at all {Ed001's Note - he has been up for sale this season, for a number of reasons, but mostly because it is felt he is not good enough to hold down a first team place and yet is on a high wage. It would be no surprise if he left now.}

I would expect him to go to America or Austrailla to be honest.

If that is the case PL and NA seem about on a par. Still at least PL hasn't got an 8 year contract to pay off like Alan Pardew.

Aston Villa are reportedly pondering a move for former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo if they decide to call time on manager Paul Lambert's career at Villa Park.

The former Norwich City boss has struggled at the Midlands club and the Premier League outfit currently reside in the bottom three of the table on just 19 points.

It is understood that Villa have made an approach to Di Matteo's representatives asking if the Champions League-winning boss would be interested in the role if it became available and it is believed that Di Matteo is open to taking the job, according to The Express.

Awful move each manager is getting worse. De matteo was nothing more than Terry's puppet.

And what is that going to acheive, we still going to be in the same state regardless, lambert needs backing not sacking!! Just like the young kids do on the pitch ! this window needs to be used and also the summer window! the squad needs to be rebuilt completley and the squad needs to be flexiable enough to change formations during matches but that aren't going to happen without quality signings! atleast 8 players from this squad need to be moved on and replaced with quality !

Failure to act = relegation and huge loss of TV revenue in 2013/14.

Newcastle look to be out of the race for Sissoko, as they are chasing some one else. We need to move quick to beat Sunderland though, as we don't want to have him pipped from us like Remy from Newcastle.

Why would we consider him when our attacking threat is good but we`re poor everywhere else. there`s plenty of positions that are more of a priority....

Think this is a player you need to get, Premier League experience, you can't afford to turn players with experience away to get young npower Championship players.

Note saha could be employed in a midfield role giving experiance to the younger players around him, a good shout on a 18 month contract.

Well Richard Dunne is back at training so when he's back there's another experience centre back. Him and Vlarr and clark will be good becasue Clarke has the legs and Vlarr and Dunne can win in the air.

Your not far off, We are close to signing Sissoko for that price (3mil), but the wage he's asking for is on par with bent, we're reluctant to saddle ourselves with that...just now could be different come monday.

coutinho isn't on his way to Villa in any shape or form. It was an agent trying to generate interest, so his client gets offered a new deal.

There isn't going to be a move for an attacking mid, WE are however looking at moving for Hangeland, Lescott or Dawson. Also Cavanda will be bought for 6mil.

Coming in on a 6 month deal, Is Nigel reo-coker, This move was discussed during our recent game at Ipswich. We're also looking at Royston Drenthe to add stregth to our left side, he's free but his attitude isn't exactly the best.

Finally if we manage to sell bent, we will try to seal a deal for Aubameyang but it's only if we sell bent.

Players on there way out are, Ireland to fulham for 4.5mil (Might be used as make weight in the hangeland deal) Warnock is interesting fulham also, with riise being linked with a move away. but a few championship clubs are also interested, Hutton is attracting interest from the championship and from mls.

Guys, so certain, but yet no evidence at all......it helps us average punters when you atleast provide some loose link as to how this "information" was obtained.

Otherwise it sounds like nothing more than a fantasy shopping list

If it's true that Faulkner refused to sanction the purchase of players early in January he MUST GO. Obvious that he knows "s*d all" about football and, more importantly, what is important for the Villa.

Get him out now before he gets us into an even bigger mess

If true, then presumably PF was reluctant to sanction purchase of players because:

a) the decision had been made when PL came in to pick young players on whom the club has spent money bringing up through the 'famed' academy - he would be justified in claiming that 'Plan A' was still 'the Plan' and blame the failure on PL.

b) money has already been made available to PL and he had spent that on certain (also young) players

c) the team has been so inept under PL of late that to throw good money after bad would be madness

d) there is little faith in PL at the most senior level

e) PF is covering his own back when presumably he instigated the move for PL in the first place (?)

If PF was responsible for employing Houllier and McLeish, those would be reasons enough for him to step down. Clearly RL rates PF, although PF must surely be on dodgier ground than usual at the moment.

The bottom line: PF is responsible for the business of AVFC. Poor performances on the pitch equals relegation equals loss of tv money next season.

PF's only answer, short of resigning (which he won't do) is to sanction the sacking of PL. And bring in RDM.

The previous paragraph is hard to type (and not what anyone wants to believe) but true.

Toulouse's French international Moussa Sissoko is among the midfielders Villa are considering as Lambert looks to strengthen in the centre of the park. The 23-year-old, who is reportedly also interesting Sunderland, could be available for a cut-price fee of around £3 million with the Ligue 1 club keen to avoid losing him for nothing when his contract expires this summer.

Villa need 2 experienced and matured midfielders and at least 1 of the same for our unstable defence. Either on loan or on the cheap, I see this as Lamberts only real chance of avoiding the drop!

Have a look at Villa's midfielders now - excluding Petrov.

a) How many of them have played over 100 games in the prem?

b) How many of them are over the age of 25?

c) How many of the none that fit into both of these categories are better than Reo-Coker.

Stop holding out for a big name that is going to come and save your club, because it won't happen.

Hugely disappointed that with a third of the transfer window now gone we have still not made any signings.

Tomorrow's game v Southampton is pivotal for our season and given the performance at Bradford the omens are not great.

I'm still behind PL and what he is attempting to achieve but would like to know what, if any, support he is getting from Faulkner and Lerner. Seems to me to be commercial suicide to risk relegation in the very season revenues from TV are due to rise substantially. Hope sense prevails and we go out and by the players that we desperately need !

Aston Villa have made an enquiry for Inter Milan winger Philippe Coutinho, according to the player's agent.

Reports emanating from Italy claim Inter have rejected Villa's offer for the Brazilian as Paul Lambert looks to bolster his squad in this month's transfer window.

Southampton have been credited with an interest in Coutinho, who has fallen down the pecking order at Inter and spent last season on loan at Espanyol.

Coutinho's agent, Cacau Barbosa, has confirmed Villa have made an approach for the 20-year-old, but nothing has been agreed for a possible move to Villa Park.

Coutinhos agent confirms that Villa have come in for his client. However he states that there is no immediate need for the player to leave Inter.

At least this means that Lambert knows we need a playmaker.....if we are to take some heart in this in some way.....

Playmaker is not the priority as all villa fans know, Curtis Davies would be a better bet

We need both a central defender with good PL experience AND a playmaker. We cannot continue to ship goals like we are. If the team I manage on a Sunday morning defended like we did on Tuesday(and all the not so memorable games over Christmas) I'd HAVE to do something about it as it's just basic errors in defending. Don't get me wrong, Bradford and Phil Parkinson did a very good job of setting their team up and they executed a plan(acknowledging that they rode their luck a bit at the start of the game and poor finishing for our chances) but their goals were schoolboy stuff literally and we just couldn't defend them. I'm not going to start on the young lads as, if we can get through this season I truly believe we can start to go places, they more than anyone need a leader on the pitch to look up to. But Lambo needs to find that person in this window or I truly fear for our PL future. I really wouldn't sell Dunne as long he is still committed to the club - I hate to say it, but we need players like him to step up(when he's not injured) and getting Vlaar back now is also crucial.

At the time I never questioned it but I'm really not sure we were right to sell James Collins or let Cuellar go - I really hope this doesn't bite us on the arsenal!

Playing darent bent as a target man is as effective as playing barry bannan as one and as bent is slower than michael chopra, he can hardly play as a supporting striker who runs onto balls. The 'bent is part of my plans' comment from PL is simply to try and raise his price-tag! Its not gonna devalue him so he might as well at least try and get more money out of teams. He's off to QPR anyway, their the only team stupid enough to pay £10m and 60k wages for a player who can only finish when its only a silver platter from 3 yards out but can't head and sleeps with team-mates wives.

He is also lazy, does not work for the team, and expects the team to provide the chances for him, where as Weimann and Benteke work for the team, help crest the chances, and their the ones scoring the goals

The CF from St Etienne has publicly said he doesn't want a move in January but wants to come to villa during the summer. If we sell certain players like Dunne, Ireland, hutton, warnock, bannan, bent. It should help to raise an extra 15/20 million which can be spent on securing players such as Dawson 7 million), huddlestone 3million, coutinho from inter 10 million, Dale Stephens 2 million and Diame 3.5 million.
Then look to loan in Gudetti and Sinclair from man city. Look at signing a few players on pre-contracts such as Danny Simpson and Yoan Gouffran.

Football is a buisness, Norwich would sell players to Villa for sure, the prices would be inflated even more than the usual Janurary dealings but deals could be done, I don't think any of our key players will be sold to any club unless a really stupid price is offered where they can be replaced twice over.
The team Norwich have and the way they are playing together are good enough to avoid relegation, so why sell and run the risk of relegation and loose out on the 90+Million that is on offer......I am sure we would do a swap deal between Morrison and Benteke if you are interested.

No chance re Benteke. If we survive this season which I am sure we will then we will be in a position to push on next season, not fighting relegation methinks. I have no axe to grind with Norwich fans but I do think that some of them should respect what Paul Lambert did for them rather than taking the p..s out of the evolving project currently in progress at the Villa. It was only 3 years ago that they were being battered in League 1 by Colchester until Lambert came in and got them to where they are now. Aston Villa have made contact with Inter Milan regarding the availability of 21 year old Brazilian attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

A bid is yet to be made but discussions are said to have opened.

Coutinho is an attacking midfielder with one senior Brazil cap to his name but has shown promise over the last few years. Is issue he has at Inter is getting regular football. He has only played one full game this season (against Palermo) and may be looking to take a small step down (no offense Villa fans) in order to increase his chances for the World Cup in 2014

Going from Inter Milan to Villa is more than just a small step down at the moment.

If we play them players in that formation we'll get torn to shreads in the same way we have been over the last 4/5 games. Westwood is not good enough defensively to dominate games an if its just him doing that job then nothin will change from the last couple weeks. We need a proper DM!

Coutinho is talented but is not exactly a hard working mid, an if people hate Ireland for being "lazy" then you won't like coutinho much either

I reckon the reports of 10m budget to be true, however if we sell players more money will be available. the likes of bent, ireland, dunne, warnock, given and hutton.
Warnock, thank god, has had interest from prem teams
Hutton can sign permanently for forest
bent to arsenal to replace chamakh
Ireland can go on a free, because he's rubbish!

All of these gone will eliminate a substancial amount of wages, meaning we could get more players or 4 or 5 higher waged players. the likes of lescott.

Players i would like to see:
Dawson (spurs) AVB doesn't favour him
Huddlestone
Matt Phillips, swap for Delfouneso

If RL is really a proper owner and doesnt want us to go down he will put a bit more money in than 10mil

Lambert has rubbished that he needs to sell players & issues that Bent is not for sale.

Id like to see Derek Boateng as a ball winner and physical presence in the middle, Wilfried Zaha/Matt Phillips/Scott Sinclair as a creative presence, Scott Parker/Arteta type in the middle (not saying those two specifically - but a linking player better than Ireland) and perhaps this Augbamayang fellow who has shown great flair in front of goal recently.

Lescott is a pipe dream im sad to say, but even a Robert Huth type, who is no nonsense and very physical (dont like him at all and think hes dirty - but Villa need someone like that to get amongst it and not back down) to help keep it together at the back.
