Hammers are stating that a prem. club have triggered the buy out for Diamme, but are refusing to say any more Yesterday Big Sam "hinted" at a club that are in need of a midfield player. Is it Villa? Must wait and see, be a great pairing with Sylla already in the bag.

What was wrong with our management missing an opportunityto sign a real midfield player? Again we fail to build a substantial bid to bring players in, poor show Villa, you want our support but you don't repay our loyalty.

Aston Villa to sign Simon Dawkins (San Jose Earthquakes)
Believable3
Unbelievable1
Confirmed on loan till end of season, one more signing may happen still possible attack minded player depending on the bent merry go round.
come on you lions!
Agree2
Disagree2
As long as Bannan is replaced by Sylla in midfield & we stick to a formation every week without 5 or 6 team changes - we'll stay up!
In 3 teams worse than us we trust!
Agree6
Disagree1
Sylla and Dawkins can replace Bannan and Delph and the midfield more of a barrier before the defense instead of our midfield being non existant scared to tackle
We still need a replacement for Bennett Lichaj and another CB
Agree2
Disagree1
Dawkins is more of a winger tbh.
He's got a few tricks in his legs.
I'm just thinking maybe us recalling Fonz would have been better if we needed a quick player who has played well this year (on loan at Blackpool).
Though why would he go from Pleasure Beach to the doom & gloom of Brum
Agree2
Disagree0
The Fonz will never kick another ball for the Villa again, his attitude like the rest of our Young players is awful {Ed003's Note - he's not been playing well this season btw}
Agree3
Disagree1
Everytime I catch the fonz playing he's doing well. They play him left wing so if you are basing it on goals per game ed don't. {Ed003's Note - True he starts there but the system they play, the front 3 interchange,I'm a B'pool fan btw so I have based my opinion on watching him mate.}
Agree1
Disagree1
He has scored a few goals though which is more than can be said for a few of our players!
Agree1
Disagree0
Sylla an dawkins to replace bannan an delph? What are you talking about? Sylla has no experience an very much unproven an I'd be surprised if he starts more than 2-3 games this season, he hasn't been signed to start games, he's simply not good enough right now, maybe in 2-3 seasons he'll turn in too a quality player, but you thinking he's gunna step up too this level strait away is laughable!
An dawkins will not be replacing delph, their the complete opposite of each other. >scg87

French midfielder Yacouba Sylla has secured his move to Aston Villa from Ligue 2 outfit Clermont Foot on a three-and-a-half year deal.
Villa boss Paul Lambert has made the defensive-minded France Under-21 international his first signing of the transfer window as he bids to drag the club out of the relegation zone in the second half of the season.
And, having completed his medical on Thursday morning, Sylla penned his deal in time to be considered for Saturday's Premier League clash with Everton at Goodison Park.

Aston Villa are in talks to sign defensive midfielder Yacouba Sylla from Clermont Foot for £2 million, according to the BBC.
Should the deal go through, the 22-year old Frenchman will become manager Paul Lambert's first signing in the January window.
Sylla has made 20 starts for French second division side Clermont, and was at Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground yesterday were he under went a medical and today is negotiating his contract should be wrapped up early afternoon

If relegated Ireland, N'zogbia, Given and Bent will be gone for me we should cash in on Bent now and get Charlie Adam in on the deal
as there the high earners
Agree4
Disagree2
You might add IF Villa are relegated. Not sure why Lambert would sell a young player such as Clark especially if he feels he is worthy of captaincy.
I would imagine he is not on a high wage and deemed a valuable part of young team. . . despite his obvious troubles this season.
Benteke will only be sold if Man City come in with 25mil this window, and as it is the last day of the window, I doubt Villa would even be able to spend the incoming transfer fee in a few hours. . . so that's not happening.
Most, if not all of these "deals" are totally dependent on Villa´s survival in the premiership.
And if Villa are relegated, would we seriously miss any of these apart from Benteke???
Agree2
Disagree0
Every team at the bottom have strengthened their squad - pssibly not Southampton who changed their manager. I thought Villa would sign nobody but instead they have signed a nobody. RL has obviously thought it not worth investing even if they lose out on the 20 million TV money. There were players there who would have strengthened in areas Villa need it. Even loan deals so that if or when relegation comes they are not stuck on the wage bill. Give the fans a bit of hope. Unknown French youngster or Huddlestone, for instance? The problem then when the drop comes, can you see the team with a few key departures winning at places like Millwall, Bolton, Watford, Middlesborough and so on. is this a better team than ones who have gone down such as Wolves, Bolton? Thanks a lot Randy wherever you are

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis is ready to offload a trio of talents as he looks to fund a big money move for Aston Villa's forgotten striker Darren Bent according to the Daily Mirror.
Pulis is ready to cash in on Peter Crouch, Kenwyne Jones and summer signing Charlie Adam as he looks to make an offer for Bent before the transfer window slams shut tomorrow night.
Why don't Villa ask for a swap deal with Charlie Adam and 5m for Bent
Believable8

Why not Adam and Palacios straight swap for bent would get both wages for less than Bent's alone!
Agree10
Disagree2
Because he's terrible
Agree5

Why not drop him off at the brittania so long as they pay his wages!! he proved his worth as he went back onto the bench last night. Weimann should be the one people are chasing. Good news though..... PL has finally grasped the fact that Villa are in a fight. Too big to go down though......so no worries.
Agree1

Villa have just been made 6/4 favourite to sign jones. Maybe part of a deal involving bent.

Palacios and jones are crap, ask any stoke fan. Adams is average. Can't see how any of this crock could help us.
Agree3
Disagree0
Why are we excited about signing kenwyne jones? absolutely average and would rather be playing benteke and weimann. don't see where he fits in really. midfield and defenders are what we need
Agree6
Disagree0
I live in Stoke and any Stoke fan will tell you Palacios is a waste of space - they will drive him wherever he wants to go. Adam has not clicked at all - might be the system they play - and Jones might have four or five good games a year. He won't cut it in the Championship for 40 odd games, and Adam won't leave for a team unlikely to be Premiership next season. So any deal for players and cash for Bent are non-starters

Right now for a shock villa will complete the signing of d Bentley for 2mil but the big news is villa have agreed a fee for j Pennet now this as totally baffled me as I don't believe he is any better than albrighton but because lambert wants to play gabby up front and and zogbia has been moved into the hole lambert is interested in the both wingers

Leeds United are in advanced talks over the proposed signing of left-back Stephen Warnock from Aston Villa.
United and Villa appear close to reaching a deal which will allow Warnock to take up an 18-month contract at Elland Road.

RL is actively trying to sell AVFC under the radar of the fans and the media, the lack of investment is due he wants to maximise his wealth as he now wants to relocate in america away from his ex wife and try to settle down again. If he is unable to sell before the end of the season depending on whether we stay up depends on when he will sell.
relegated = RL will wait until we return to the prem to sell investing limited fund to preserve his fortune.
survive = he will sell to the higest bidder who has best intentions for the club as he is still a villa fan at heart.
all we can hope for is survival and a sheik

Lol...and you have Lerner's ear, right?
I don't know what is wrong with people like you.
He doesn't want Villa to be ridden with debt, he wants to stabilise and then invest when we're balanced again.
Do you honestly think Lambert would have left Norwich if there was no future plan?
I'm just glad I don't have to sit next to the deranged and schizophrenic fans that come on here.
The situation is depressing enough!

Agree5

Why are people so blind they can't see what RL and PL are trying to do, we sign young talent who have great futures. If we stay up which we do have the ability to do the team can only get better and as time passes we can challenge in the top half of the table.
Things take time and I feel its better this way then spend millions on players which we have in the past which have come to nothing. I expect us to use the Bents, N'Zogbias and Irelands to help us stay up but I wouldn't expect them to stay around afterwards! UTV
Agree5

That all sounds great mate. But, I honestly think that those of you who go with this theory are confusing development with decline.
Every poor side in any devision states at some point or other that they are in some stage of transition to explain away a perilous position. It makes it sound like there is a master plan, that the current hitch is just a bump in the road and it will all turn out well given a bit more time.
If Lerner had any ambition to be pushing toward the top 1/2 of the table in a few years, do you honestly think he would risk the loss of £60 million plus for he sake of spending 10-15 million now, when we really need it, on a Centre midfielder who can tackle, a centre back who can head a ball and a wide man who can cross a ball ?
The plan, if there is one, is for Villa to scrape along the bottom half of the table spending the bare minimum possible whilst still drawing the Sky TV money (in other words, to be Wigan).Sorry to be such a pessimist but I just don't see anything but long term decline under this chairman

Ok...deep breath and here goes...you will all have seen the tweets from former players who are worried about the current situation...as are we all (what we wouldn't give now for the passion, the guile and the ABILITY of several of those i.e. Shaun Teale, Peter Withe, Ian Taylor etc). They are not blaming PL necessarily but one in particular is currently asking where the players' b***s are, with others suggesting that they can lend a hand with set pieces and attacking, for free, at such a difficult time.
With PL surely set to leave (?) how about Little and Gregory as joint managers? Former players and ex-managers who understand and care deeply about just what Aston Villa means in terms of the fans, club's history, the city and to football in general.
This will not happen, of course, as it is assumed that
'today's game' has no place for such people who are apparently relics of the past.
However, I do know that 'such people' would play a settled side imbued with confidence, vigour, passion and talent; would not tinker about with dubious substitutions and odd tactics but would ensure a connection with the fans, which would re-ignite the fervour the club needs to avoid the drop and not merely go out with a whimper.
Remember all, this is OUR club - not RLs, not PLs nor PFs. The club and us will here long after all 3 have left. Let's reclaim the passion.
Believable19
Unbelievable5
Well said that man.
Agree11
Disagree5
Sounds very inspirational, what happens to these legends when it all goes pear shaped again, PL is the best prospect you can hope for, I bet you were excited when he arrived!! The problem is the greedy players like Bent, Ireland (more interested in cars he can have than scoring goals) N'zogbia etc. who have no allegiance to VILLA, what is the point of changing manager to run the same players? need to go down and rebuild, PL is the man for that.
Agree5
Disagree12
The point is that we do not WANT to have to be in a position to 'rebuild'. We've been doing that since MON's ill-fated reign ended. Don't you get it?
Agree9
Disagree3
Sorry folks, Norwich fan here, But the fact that you mention Ex player and Managers to come in because they love the club, Don't always work either three season ago we had Gunn he was at the club 20 odd years a complete legend, John Deehan too it Don't mean they are going to turn it around,
Not Mocking but you will be best to stay with Lambert even if you go down, look how and what he did for us, All on a shoestring, Perhaps that's where Lerner went wrong and thought he could do the same for Villa, Think you will have to swallow pride go down and bounce back a better side under Lambert
Agree7
Disagree8
Perhaps Villa were doomed when an owner from the other side of the atlantic took over, hardly going to have Villa blood is he? bet he thought they were in London, he is only interested in getting out with as little loss as possible now. Be careful what you wish for, you can't keep swapping and especially not every six months. Stay and watch the whole game and the team may feed off that.
Agree2
Disagree8
Alan Shearer could not save Newcastle, he is a real legend around the toon.
Agree7
Disagree2
Hello everyone; read your comments with interest, honest (yep, even the Norwich one...and the Newcastle one...and the other one). I wrote the original post...you seem to think that I could have picked anyone 'from the past' to resurrect the fervour, the ambition the nerve required to not just avoid the drop but to do so in the necessary, intelligent, slightly off-kilter and diligent manner.
Not so, friends.
With total respect to Carrow Roadians (I think you're a great club and Hughton is a terrific manager), we have no current need (thankfully) to operate on a shoestring. Mr Lerner is a billionaire. As for Newcastle, (amazing club with tradition and huge support) Shearer would never have survived with that team.
I merely say that we need cool and experienced heads to see us through and not (unfortunately for PL) someone who appears to be either out of his depth, at the mercy of ragged old pros and not-as-good-as-they-think-they-are kind of young players (is 23 too young these days?!) or simply out of time.
Agree6

If Milner was worth £24m (before we took Ireland) then Bentekkers is worth £25-30m.

Apparently Emmanuel pogatetz is set to have a chance to join villa after we are making a bid (apparently)
I just don't understand anymore first of all we had 10mill to spend but now in a recent interview someone asked lambert 'are we likely to see any players joining villa by the end of January?' And lambert responded 'not really, no'
So why are we always being linked with people it's pointless because there is no chance they are going to join
Believable4
Unbelievable5
Ed any truth in the Emmanuel pogatetz transfer? Or just another rumour? {Ed001's Note - he was offered to the club, and lots of others, no idea if Villa showed any interest though.}

He said he might sign one or two people but basically has said Lerner has pulled his funding & said he won't pay the excessive January fee's.
Agree1

Lambert never reveals anything to journalists in fact he leads them all over the place and in general is very good at handling them. he has made a few look stupid as well
Agree1
Disagree0
In my opinion I think rl should call a press conference or a general meeting for the fans to openly discuss what his intentions are for the club because at this rate fans will start to turn there backs in frustration and we will lose a lot of money cause there whole set up looks like a preparation for life in the championship. It's either hand out or get out for rl ...................
Agree8
Disagree0
Rl is a billionaire with a huge ego he doesn't care what a load of fanatics think/want he is mainly motivated by business. He has missed out on 100m if we go down though because he didn't want to invest. Europa league revenue if we had won the capital one cup is 15m I think and 70-80 mil for next seasons prem sponsors and so on also you get more prize money the higher we finish in the prem. but Lerner is not a football we need a directer of football eg graham Taylor or Ron Atkinson to advise him of this sort of stuff. Faulkner seems a bit scared to ask for anything.

Two outstanding signings if they come off palacios especially and one thing upson has always been good at was set piece defence
Agree2

Outstanding signings?! how would either of those be outstanding, especially upson? they'd be adequate for our needs at the moment and no more

QPR are in for Palacios and we might as well stick with Dunne than Upson.
Agree8
Disagree0
Why would Randy plan to spend should Villa be relegated! Where are you coming from? How ridiculous! Football whatever you might think is a business! It's not a computer game where Villa start the season with 1 million and clubs are happ to buy your players. I want to see players coming in and Villa picking up points! Villa is still a big club and could attract good players. Upson let's be honest with ourselves is not a positive signing!
Agree5
Disagree1
Could probably get Upson & Palacios for £3-5m together & Bent could sell for more like £10m. Bent will never be seen in a Stoke shirt.
Agree1
Disagree0
Randy has lost the desire to spend big premiership wages and fees to keep us up that is the main point...;whether he just hasn't got he money, or just is fed up with emptying his pockets or has lost his heart for the club...not sure...he just doesn't seem as commited anymore

You cannot loan 2 players off another prem team FACT
Agree0
Disagree1
Fact 1 villa are always late in dealing with transfers, now this does not mean they are not active but there is so much more that goes on other than phoning a club and buying a player .
Fact 2 if any of you have half a clue about villa and football in general you would all agree that both upson and palacios would more than benefit our team in our current situation, and before you all start shouting off these would not be my 1st choice signings either but they are both experienced pros that villa could get within our buget for around 5mil for the pair myself I think this would be a cracking bit of business right now.
In a ideal world I would rather hangeland and diame but these 2would cost us between 8 and 12 mil

Also an out of favour ball winning cm on loan for example jake Livermore, Tom Huddlestone, Wilson palacios. We are getting rid of Hutton on loan so use his monumental wage to loan someone. He's staying in London. After two cup defeats to lower oppos this week, why would anyone want to come? The expectation on them to turn around a dying cause would be unrealistic. People who think it would be okay to go down, regroup, and go back up need to take a long look at the Championship teams who haven't managed to get back. And the showing against Millwall says this team would need strengthening to compete mid table in the Championship.

IRELAND new boy Jeff Hendrick has emerged as a transfer target for struggling Aston Villa.
The 20-year-old Derby County midfielder was called up to Giovanni Trapattoni's senior squad for the first time this week for next month's friendly against Poland.
Despite being just 20, Hendrick has made more than 80 appearances for the Rams and is a strong competitor in a physical league, something that has impressed Trapattoni when he watched the midfielder at close quarters over the last two weeks.

Because I think heitinga would be a great buy he could play cdm? {Ed001's Note - it is a case of sell Bent to buy others, mostly. I am not sure if that is because the money is not there or Lerner is not sure about backing Lambert though.}

Lerner backing Lambert as the manager althogh is unwilling to make any transfer funds available and is willing to go down to to trim the wage bill as he believes Lambert will be able to bring us back up to the prem
Agree5

Can't change the attitude of the players, anyone coming in will be down trodden, can't change many in a week. May as well leave it till the summer knowing what league Villa will be playing in. Hope there are provisions in place for the likes of Ireland and Bent and n'zogbia who are all not up for the fight, they certainly don't deserve to earn what they do.
Agree3
Disagree1
Agree with the above. No player will come to us unless they know what league we will be in next season. No premier league player will join us, which means we will only recruit from the lower leagues and that hasn't exactly worked. Our players will gel together but by then we would have got relegated. Lambert seems tactically clueless at times and Lerner might as well sell for all the interest he has anymore. I appreciate he is trying to turn Villa in to a sound financial concern but it isn't working and when we get relegated we will lose millions.

Believable8
Unbelievable11
I'd be amazed if he quit. Not in his DNA. Aside from anything else, it would be absolute career suicide to jump with the club at its lowest ebb. If he goes, it will be the board that instigate it but they, above all others, must shoulder much of the blame for the club's current position. Funds need to be made available to buy the rest of the jigsaw pieces. Mr. Lerner's pumped plenty in over the years but what cost relegation!! Thick and thin time fellas! In Lambert we trust. UTV.

Are you one of the supporters who begged the board to go for Lambert? this is what he does!! he can';t handle big time charlie's who only want money i.e. BENT, have faith, Lambert will get Villa back into top half where they belong. Top 6 is pushing it I'm afraid.
Agree8

It wasn't his idea he's just doing what randy Lerner told him to do, he said get a young hungry side so he didn't have to spend much so when he sells it in the summer which he will he wouldn't of lost as much money Lerners the problem not lambert
Agree9
Disagree4
Just what we need another crappy lower league player. suppose he will fit in next season in the Championship. Can't believe myself and my Dad wasted £65 for the privelidge of watching that shower last night. The Guardian today claimed Ireland had and I quote "looked promising in a free role" really? I thought he was lazy, uninterested and off the pace and a disgrace to the shirt...but then what do I know. I am struugling to take any positives from last night and feel the club from the top to the bottom has a tired feeling about it. Time for big changes. Who would have thought that Warnock/Hutton would have been favourable to Bennett/Lowton et al last night?
Agree4
Disagree4
Harry stepped in and has had the ability to fund transfers and replace poor performing players at QPR. Whilst I sympathise in that Lambert hasn't achieved that much he also hasn't really been fed finance to buy his way out either. You think any new manager can wave a magic wand and achieve more than what Lambert has done and improve in time to save the bacon ? don't think so.
Agree5
Disagree2
Agreed. PL has to go for the good of the club, his own sake and to loosen RL's grip on the purse strings for a new manager.
Football is still a simple game - you pass the ball to players wearing the same shirts and score more than the opposition whilst preventing your opponents from scoring.
Because of PL's incessant tinkering with the side and ridiculous substitutions, he has become emblematic of a modern breed of manager who analyses too deeply, adheres to oddball 'tactics' and the fabled 'squad rotation'. Add to that a shower of ill-equipped, largely clueless and rudderless players and it spells nothing but disaster.
Time to wake up in B6.
Agree5
Disagree5
Lambert is still the man we need BUT he needs to do a few things..
1) But Warnock but in for Bennett.
2) Buy some quality!
3) Stop with the stupid sub's!
4) Get DB9 back!
5) Focus on the EPL!
Agree3

Have just said Lambert's job is safe, even if you go down, So you know what happens next
Agree4

Pl doesn't use wingers, as soon as I heard that I knew it was bound to be a disaster, and ireland and bannan are useless players, and lowton and bennet are not good enough for the premier league, and pl is not a premier league manager he is more of a chanpionship manager maybe that's why Rl appointed him because he knew villa was goning to be in the championship next season.
Agree4
Disagree1
So sacking the manager is the answer? WAKE UP, Lambert is working under the restrictions set by the board, he's brought in quality players in Benteke, Vlaar, Westwood and Lowton. The problem is the players we've accumilated over the previous seasons like Ireland, N'zogbia and Bent. If the monies not there to buy the midfielder and defender we obviously need how can that be Lamberts fault.

In reply to an earlier msg. no i'm not one of these people who begged we sign lambert but I was open to giving him a chance. as far i'm concerned his chance is over. alarm bells where ringing when he started signing lower leage players but still I thought give him a chance. more alarm bells when he droped darren bent cause he's not a team player, big ben not exactly a team player either. bent knows where the net is his record shows that give him the ball in the box and he will score. if other players can't get him the ball which is their job then its not his fault.

Still think all we need is a strong ball winning midfielder, someone to sit in front of back 4 and offer support, every time a team break up our attack the middle of the park is empty for them to run into. Need someone like (hate to add) Joey Barton, or Schneiderlin of Southampton (he was everywhere last night break up play)

Schneiderlin would never go to villa. It would be a sideways/ backwards step at the moment. I'm saying this as a villa fan
Agree4

I like Barton as a player, he's an all round good player, he can pass, tackle, read the game but more importantly he's a strong charecter who doesn't bow to no one on an off the pitch, who's leadership on the pitch would make all the difference to us, but I can understand why he would not be welcome at villa park, so if not Barton then someone like him is a must!
Another reason why I don't think Barton will be a possible signing is because I get a strong feeling PL does not like strong charecter's or strong personalities in his squad which I think has been one of his biggest mistakes so far.

Hurd an Clark done the holding midfield role last season an even this season have done it at times, an they didn't solve that problem, quite honestly their are not good enough, we need players with aggression, who can tackle an pass, but more importantly we need someone with strong charecter who won't be intimidated by opposition players

This is a MASSIVE risk for them to take. Vlaar & Dunne returning will make a difference and the movement between Gabby, Benteke & N'Zogbia looked good, and Delph & Westwood looked strong-ish in midfield. Still wish we would bring in 2 players - Centre Mid & Centre Defence

It's going to take several matches before Dunne is anywhere near match fit. Was he that good last season? Better than what's there now, more experience and leadership, granted, but enough to keep an awful side up? If you are honest, Swansea should have had a hatful, so should Liverpool, WBA might have had more... add that to the teams who have filled their boots and more than Dunne is needed. And before the Newcastle game which now becomes massive. If there are no new signings and no Wembley appearance then everyone will see what RL thinks of Villa and their fans

I honestly think lambert made the wrong decision with the amount of players he bought and how much for in the summer. Everyone is saying lambert needs time he's had enough bloody time now! Fair enough we have had injuries but that's what you bring in other players for. An article has stated that Lerner has spoken to di matteo's people and there are encouraging signs that he will join villa if lambert gets the sack which if we don't win tomorrow and don't get through against Bradford should happen! Then there is long enough for di matteo to get some better people in.

Agree with many of the comments. If PL had money to spend would he do it wisely enough to stay up? Atkins' buys were not that great this time around. RDM seemed just a front for Terry & Co - not a wonderful job at the Hawthorns in the end. More people seem to be looking ahead to next season and who can get Villa out of the Championship. If that is the case PL and NA seem about on a par. Still at least PL hasn't got an 8 year contract to pay off like Alan Pardew.

A number of clubs are monitoring Albert Adomah's situation at Bristol City, .
The relegation threatened Robins have just appointed Sean O'Driscoll, and one of his first jobs could be to try and fight to keep Ghana star Adomah.
The 25-year-old has just linked up with Ghana for the Africa Cup of Nations, where he has been handed the iconic Number 10 shirt for his country.
But Adomah's domestic future is very much uncertain with clubs from the Premier League and Championship all ready to battle for his signature.
Aston Villa, Swansea, West Brom and Wigan are all believed to have been impressed with Adomah in recent weeks having taken in some of his performances for the Robins.

Aston Villa are reportedly pondering a move for former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo if they decide to call time on manager Paul Lambert's career at Villa Park.
The former Norwich City boss has struggled at the Midlands club and the Premier League outfit currently reside in the bottom three of the table on just 19 points.
It is understood that Villa have made an approach to Di Matteo's representatives asking if the Champions League-winning boss would be interested in the role if it became available and it is believed that Di Matteo is open to taking the job, according to The Express.

And what is that going to acheive, we still going to be in the same state regardless, lambert needs backing not sacking!! Just like the young kids do on the pitch ! this window needs to be used and also the summer window! the squad needs to be rebuilt completley and the squad needs to be flexiable enough to change formations during matches but that aren't going to happen without quality signings! atleast 8 players from this squad need to be moved on and replaced with quality !

We need to replace Faulkner not Lambert and Lerner needs to buck his ideas up and back Lambert.
I'm unable to see how relegation is viable economically, but this appears to be where Lerner is taking the club. It is madness, TV revenues fall off a cliff, gate receipts will fall and we will have to sell players like Bent & N'Zogbia at a loss simply to get their wages off the wage bill.
As the saying goes Speculate to Accumulate !

Have you all not seen the rumours elsewhere? None of us REALLY wants PL to go but Di Matteo is being lined up - otherwise RL would have put his hand in his deep pockets by now. Money being held back until the West Brom and Bradford games, presumably? PL wins both = cash to spend. Lose one or the other and RDM in plus money. Failure to act = relegation and huge loss of TV revenue in 2013/14.
Football reduced to simple equations, maybe. But it's a simple game applied to business rules.

Your not far off, We are close to signing Sissoko for that price (3mil), but the wage he's asking for is on par with bent, we're reluctant to saddle ourselves with that...just now could be different come monday.
coutinho isn't on his way to Villa in any shape or form. It was an agent trying to generate interest, so his client gets offered a new deal.
There isn't going to be a move for an attacking mid, WE are however looking at moving for Hangeland, Lescott or Dawson. Also Cavanda will be bought for 6mil.
Coming in on a 6 month deal, Is Nigel reo-coker, This move was discussed during our recent game at Ipswich. We're also looking at Royston Drenthe to add stregth to our left side, he's free but his attitude isn't exactly the best.
Finally if we manage to sell bent, we will try to seal a deal for Aubameyang but it's only if we sell bent.
Players on there way out are, Ireland to fulham for 4.5mil (Might be used as make weight in the hangeland deal) Warnock is interesting fulham also, with riise being linked with a move away. but a few championship clubs are also interested, Hutton is attracting interest from the championship and from mls.

Ed, rumours that villa will beat Sunderland to the signing of
moussa sissoko, you know anything more? {Ed002's Note - Toulouse's Moussa Sissoko has previously attracted interest from Milan, Arsenal, Lyon, Roma, Genoa, Liverpool and probably Napoli. Damien Comolli went as far as letting Sissoko's agent know that Liverpool saw Sissoko as the ideal long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard - but for some reason the club failed to make the final push to buy the player. Sissoko remains available (as he has done for two years) and Juventus, Aston Villa, Newcastle, AC Milan, Spartak Moscow and Spurs have enquired - with a tentative agreement initially being reached with Newcastle and Juventus over the price. Juve probably have the edge right now but would much prefer a pre-contract for a summer move whilst Toulouse look to renew his contract. AC Milan may well push for a January cash move with both Marseille and Aston Villa looking to get in with an acceptable offer first.}

If it's true that Faulkner refused to sanction the purchase of players early in January he MUST GO. Obvious that he knows "s*d all" about football and, more importantly, what is important for the Villa.
Get him out now before he gets us into an even bigger mess
Agree3
Disagree3
If true, then presumably PF was reluctant to sanction purchase of players because:
a) the decision had been made when PL came in to pick young players on whom the club has spent money bringing up through the 'famed' academy - he would be justified in claiming that 'Plan A' was still 'the Plan' and blame the failure on PL.
b) money has already been made available to PL and he had spent that on certain (also young) players
c) the team has been so inept under PL of late that to throw good money after bad would be madness
d) there is little faith in PL at the most senior level
e) PF is covering his own back when presumably he instigated the move for PL in the first place (?)
If PF was responsible for employing Houllier and McLeish, those would be reasons enough for him to step down. Clearly RL rates PF, although PF must surely be on dodgier ground than usual at the moment.
The bottom line: PF is responsible for the business of AVFC. Poor performances on the pitch equals relegation equals loss of tv money next season.
PF's only answer, short of resigning (which he won't do) is to sanction the sacking of PL. And bring in RDM.
The previous paragraph is hard to type (and not what anyone wants to believe) but true.
There is no romance in Premier League football.

Toulouse's French international Moussa Sissoko is among the midfielders Villa are considering as Lambert looks to strengthen in the centre of the park. Villa will only be bringing 2 players during January. The club is actively pursuing several targets but only 2 will materialise.

Big questions... who worthwhile will/would sign for Villa atm, and if you go down the loan route you might buy another 12 months in the Premiership. I know this is the big bucks year coming, but RL doesn't seem to be wanting to speculate to accumulate. Be careful what you wish for... Big Eck had more points, more goals, less conceded and 7 places higher at this time last year. But then again, who will notice if there is the annual New Year slump?
Agree7

We aren't actually that desperate for goals the only reason we hardly score is cause the strikers have to do it themselves as the midfield aren't good enough to help and are also helping defence Benteke, Bent, Weimann, Gabby and Bowery. that's fine but we lack width and cutting edge. Also a solid spine

b) How many of them are over the age of 25?
c) How many of the none that fit into both of these categories are better than Reo-Coker.
Stop holding out for a big name that is going to come and save your club, because it won't happen.

I wanted palacios who looks as tho is going to QPR for £2.5m an
Moussa sissoko who is supposedly going to Sunderland for £3.5m which would be soul destroying to think we'd missed out on 2 good players at cheap prices, an Id even had taken Stephen Kelly on a free.
Getting desperate now! PL needs to get to work now, an sign the players we need, not on the last day of jan but before Friday! Sick of losing out on good players because we're slow to react to players who are available.

Saints without that penalty could have lost by about 3 or 4 if Benteke hadn't have missed every single chance.

Villa looking at buying 3 from these prem experienced midfielders there interests include: Taylor and O'neil west ham, O'hara wolves, stokes white head and palacios. Warnock Ireland nzogbia and Hutton all offered in exchange.
The other 3 deals to go surman coming in from norwich. And 2 players from abroad.
Believable1
Unbelievable16
They are mostly terrible over the hill championship players. We need a whole new midfield starting with 2 new cm's in January and 2 wingers in the summer although if nzogbia can recapture old form under lambo which I think he can he can save the club a bit of money
Agree6

I'd be glad to see the back of all of those BUT not Charlie N'Zogbia.
Against Bradford he looked sharp & Benteke should have scored a couple if he got contact amount right.
N'Zog will stay i think.

Hugely disappointed that with a third of the transfer window now gone we have still not made any signings.
Tomorrow's game v Southampton is pivotal for our season and given the performance at Bradford the omens are not great.
I'm still behind PL and what he is attempting to achieve but would like to know what, if any, support he is getting from Faulkner and Lerner. Seems to me to be commercial suicide to risk relegation in the very season revenues from TV are due to rise substantially. Hope sense prevails and we go out and by the players that we desperately need !

From what Paul lambert is saying we have no money. He has today ruled out a move for lescott because of cost.
He says he has to buy carefully as he does not have 5-6 million to spend on one player. I am afraid we are up the creek without a paddle. Today's game against Southampton is a must win game in my view. I like lambert and what he is trying to do but he should have spent some of the 24mil in the summer on a solid midfielder. If that's all we have I would spend the lot in midfield with vlaar back and play Clarke at lb, baker with vlaar. Holman in centre mid at Delph and bannan are clueless. Our forward line of zoggie, wieman
Agree2
Disagree0
Zoggie, wieman, benteke, and bent is a good enough forward line in my view. At the back and midfield we are very week. I hope and pray for us to stay up this season but it's gonna be a struggle. Lerner is just playing with us like a toy and now we don't hear off falkner. We were better off under doug. We may need to bite the bullet and bring back warnock and Hutton dare I say.

You sound rather bitter. He who laughs last eh. Mon was significantly responsible for mess we have been in signing pensioners and giving them massive contracts. Agree7

At last someone else who has seen MON for the outdated, overated manager he is.
Agree7
Disagree2
MON is to blame for the mess we are in? Surely Lerner was happy to sanction larger salaries in an effort to push for champions league? Had MON not paid the larger salaries we would not have had the relative success we did. Why is it that Villa fans immediately slate MON when his name is mentioned? Yes he left us in a bit of a lurch before the start of a season but to simply forget the good times he created for 4 years is bewildering
Agree4
Disagree4
Not quite sure why Sunderland fans have a problem with Aston Villa. Please enlighten me. If it's over Darren Bent then come on we paid over the odds for him, you got a good deal out of that
All clubs are selling clubs if the right deals come along even Man you (Ronaldo anyone?) it's how you re-invest the money that counts. Villa's record in that department recently has been woeful due to MON, Lerner, Faulkner putting average players on stupid contracts so we have been using some of the transfer fees to clear debts. Further you have to have the decent players to sell in the first place!!!
Out of interest how much are Flecther, Cuellar, Johnson and O'Shea on at Sunderland?
Agree4
Disagree0
MON fitted Villa like a glove - he understood the need to connect with the community and having been a player during the time we won the European Cup appreciated the history and size of the club. The optimism engendered by Randy/MON in those early days is what we miss most.
But there were some dodgy signings and obviously something went seriously awry. The club hasn't recovered since and weak leadership has resulted in poor decisions to employ Houllier and McLeish, compounding the problem.
PL also fits the bill quite neatly (he 'gets' the club) but he has had to accept that RL won't bankroll as before. Bold moves to play young players has backfired and I don't believe that RL has any faith in PL.
PL will fall on his sword by the end of the month. Not happy to type that but RL won't risk relegation before next year's TV super-payout.
Therefore, no players in until a change of management.
Roberto Di Matteo in from Monday.
Agree12
Disagree4
Are you seriously criticising RL for backing MON? Lol. RL trusted an backed MON which is what we all wanted, he gambled it didn't pay off an then when finally RL decided to sort the finances out MON jumped ship. I have no doubt MON will jump ship at Sunderland as soon as they say know to his demands
Agree6
Disagree10
Er, no...please read again. RL was the best possible thing to happen to the club when he arrived and was the perfect foil to/for MON.
If you are suggesting that RL did the right thing by revising wage structures etc; then I would agree with you.
However, do you not think that there is a problem with recruitment i.e. managers and players? In that regard, I think the finger might point towards Paul Faulkner rather than RL.
Very poor decision brought Houllier and McLeish in, along with some exceptionally bad buys, with whom the club is lumbered -and still on high wages! So whither RL's new structure then?!
This season has been a brave but ultimately foolhardy experiment.
By the way, Sunderland have backed MON recently (in difficult circumstances) and for players we might have brought in - suggests the opposite of what you say about them.
Most managers have around 2-3 years' maximum at any one club. MON will leave Sunderland one way or another and the club rolls on...just like the Villa.
Only difference here is that we cannot afford to go down - the revenue loss would simply be too great.
On that basis alone, how can PL survive? And I say that as a fan of the man.

Can RL afford to sack PL? It will cost him a few million in compensation!

The Aston Villa defender is yet to play a game this season after a number of setbacks in his recovery from a groin problem, and his club future is up in the air with his contract at the Birmingham club due to expire this summer.

Aston Villa have made an enquiry for Inter Milan winger Philippe Coutinho, according to the player's agent.
Reports emanating from Italy claim Inter have rejected Villa's offer for the Brazilian as Paul Lambert looks to bolster his squad in this month's transfer window.
Southampton have been credited with an interest in Coutinho, who has fallen down the pecking order at Inter and spent last season on loan at Espanyol.
Coutinho's agent, Cacau Barbosa, has confirmed Villa have made an approach for the 20-year-old, but nothing has been agreed for a possible move to Villa Park.
"I can confirm Aston Villa made an enquiry for Coutinho, " Barbosa told FC Inter News.
"They want him, but with all due respect for the proposal made to Philippe, at this moment there is still nothing concrete to suggest an exit from Inter."

Granted we need cover at CB, but i don't think there would be half as much pressure on the young lads at the back if we had a "Patrick Veira type" breaking up play and wining it in the air......and also ditching useless wingbacks like Lichaj, Stevens and Bennett
Agree10
Disagree2
We need both a central defender with good PL experience AND a playmaker. We cannot continue to ship goals like we are. If the team I manage on a Sunday morning defended like we did on Tuesday(and all the not so memorable games over Christmas) I'd HAVE to do something about it as it's just basic errors in defending. Don't get me wrong, Bradford and Phil Parkinson did a very good job of setting their team up and they executed a plan(acknowledging that they rode their luck a bit at the start of the game and poor finishing for our chances) but their goals were schoolboy stuff literally and we just couldn't defend them. I'm not going to start on the young lads as, if we can get through this season I truly believe we can start to go places, they more than anyone need a leader on the pitch to look up to. But Lambo needs to find that person in this window or I truly fear for our PL future. I really wouldn't sell Dunne as long he is still committed to the club - I hate to say it, but we need players like him to step up(when he's not injured) and getting Vlaar back now is also crucial.
At the time I never questioned it but I'm really not sure we were right to sell James Collins or let Cuellar go - I really hope this doesn't bite us on the arsenal!

Bannan is poor. Has had enough time to establish himself but lacks the pace, power, strength, but most importantly, the quality to cut it.
Agree2
Disagree0
No actually I'm mad because we are likely to be relegated and Lambert is yet to find someone to add a bit of grit and stick a foot in from midfield. Bannan and Delph has got to be the worst midfield ever for Villa and worst in the premiership.
Add to that Clark and Baker with Herd and Bennett and that is the worst defense......
That's why I'm mad......
Agree2

Bannan needs a period away on loan to get some confidence. He has only ever known a struggling Villa side in his 2 - 3 years in the 1st team. He offers the defence little protection and they get overrrun. When a defence finds itself so unprotected, mistakes become inevitable as they get tired both physically and mentally. When was the last time we conceded a goal that the other side had to really earn?

Bent isn't leaving & why would Inter Milan want Darren Bent?!?
Agree9
Disagree4
Can people stop saying Bent is leaving, just because Lambert says he isn't, doesn't mean he isn't, he could be trying to rise the price
Agree3
Disagree4
Why are people saying he is leaving he's not! Even if we have to pay Sunderland another 6million for him it is worth it because he's a goalscorer and that will keep us in this league!! What we need is this coutinho to sign so it gives us a bit of flair and someone to feed balls through to bent!
Agree6
Disagree4
If somebody wants bent i'll pay for his taxi fare! He's had more than enough chance to prove himself and i personally don't want a 'goalscorer' that runs away from the ball every time its crossed to him. Playing darent bent as a target man is as effective as playing barry bannan as one and as bent is slower than michael chopra, he can hardly play as a supporting striker who runs onto balls. The 'bent is part of my plans' comment from PL is simply to try and raise his price-tag! Its not gonna devalue him so he might as well at least try and get more money out of teams. He's off to QPR anyway, their the only team stupid enough to pay £10m and 60k wages for a player who can only finish when its only a silver platter from 3 yards out but can't head and sleeps with team-mates wives.
Agree4
Disagree5
He is also lazy, does not work for the team, and expects the team to provide the chances for him, where as Weimann and Benteke work for the team, help crest the chances, and their the ones scoring the goals
Agree7

Bent is proven quality! 6-7 years of scoring to a prolific rate in the prem is proof of that!

Aubameyang, Sissoko, Coutinho, Plus Belguim CB on way to villa talks underway with Coutinho.
Bent to be swapped for one of the above as Lerner refuses to sell to relegation rivals and targets the reduction of trhe wage bill. Edz any truth to these rumors? Coutinho is ready made for Villa and would supply more creativity for Big Ben & Co

Not trying to sound daft, but do you have a shred of evidence to suggest any of these would take place other than regurgitated news clippings from the highly in accurate British tabloids?
I could see Bent at West Ham potentially but is it wise to sell a proven player in order to bring in an unproven if not flashy guy like Augbamayang?
Key player here may well be Coutinho if he could come in and provide the same as what Arteta used to give Everton we will be much improved. This CB looks fast and athletic so he would be a good signing also....

The CF from St Etienne has publicly said he doesn't want a move in January but wants to come to villa during the summer. If we sell certain players like Dunne, Ireland, hutton, warnock, bannan, bent. It should help to raise an extra 15/20 million which can be spent on securing players such as Dawson 7 million), huddlestone 3million, coutinho from inter 10 million, Dale Stephens 2 million and Diame 3.5 million.
Then look to loan in Gudetti and Sinclair from man city. Look at signing a few players on pre-contracts such as Danny Simpson and Yoan Gouffran.

We are after Stefan Rein?? from Bayer Leverkusen, Kelvin Leerdam, James Chester, Dale Stephens and possibly the guy from St Ettienne. Lambert is also a massive fan of Howson at Norwich and he is the only player he wants to sign from carrow Road as the rest are all a pile if rubbish

Although very ambitious, I honestly think that if we got Aubameyang, Sissoko, Coutinho and a good experienced CB, we could finish top ten this season, and would be a contender for top six nex season
Agree8

That lot would cost nigh on £30m and the not for investment chairman ain't spending that kind of money but as Keegan would say, I'd love it if all of those came in, next season we would be real contenders
Agree4
Disagree1
It's not that unrealistic, 10m to start, plus 10m + from Bent sale, if we ca ship out any of the following: Dunne/Ireland/Warnock/Hutton the wages released would be huge, and could be transferred into transfer budget. That's about 25m
Sissoko's contract is running out, so they would have to accept an offer of about 5m, a CB for e.g. Dawson, would probs cost about 5m and Aubameyang and Coutinho could be collected for about 15m altogether
Agree7

Football is a buisness, Norwich would sell players to Villa for sure, the prices would be inflated even more than the usual Janurary dealings but deals could be done, I don't think any of our key players will be sold to any club unless a really stupid price is offered where they can be replaced twice over.
The team Norwich have and the way they are playing together are good enough to avoid relegation, so why sell and run the risk of relegation and loose out on the 90+Million that is on offer......I am sure we would do a swap deal between Morrison and Benteke if you are interested.
Agree1
Disagree1
No chance re Benteke. If we survive this season which I am sure we will then we will be in a position to push on next season, not fighting relegation methinks. I have no axe to grind with Norwich fans but I do think that some of them should respect what Paul Lambert did for them rather than taking the p..s out of the evolving project currently in progress at the Villa. It was only 3 years ago that they were being battered in League 1 by Colchester until Lambert came in and got them to where they are now. He made Hughton's job quite simple and even had the decency not to raid his old club for their best players unlike others (Harry Redknapp anyone?)
Agree4
Disagree1
Why on earth would we swap benteke, a player too good for villa and norwich for a player who isnt even good enough for the prem? Plus i doubt he's worth the 7m we payed for benteke at the start of the season let alone the 10-15m teams would be willing to pay for him now!
Agree1

Benteke is far too good for norwich morison is your sort of quality

Transferring monthly salary funds into transfer kitty? I have to laugh sometimes! Do you honestly think that there is a big pucket of money that pays salaries once a month? A business has to generate funds to pay salaries and in our case this is from endoresements, match days etc!! and each of the players you have mentioned will require wages similar to that of Dunne/Warnock/Ireland and where will that money come from? Oh yeah that magic bucket again

Aston Villa have made contact with Inter Milan regarding the availability of 21 year old Brazilian attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho.
A bid is yet to be made but discussions are said to have opened.
Coutinho is an attacking midfielder with one senior Brazil cap to his name but has shown promise over the last few years. Is issue he has at Inter is getting regular football. He has only played one full game this season (against Palermo) and may be looking to take a small step down (no offense Villa fans) in order to increase his chances for the World Cup in 2014

Warnock, thank god, has had interest from prem teams
Hutton can sign permanently for forest
bent to arsenal to replace chamakh
Ireland can go on a free, because he's rubbish!
All of these gone will eliminate a substancial amount of wages, meaning we could get more players or 4 or 5 higher waged players. the likes of lescott.

Hoping for a CB, Full back, CM and a winger...My number 1 choice for CB would be Lescott but i don't think there's much chance of that happening. Douglas from FC Twente or Hangeland would do though. Danny Simpson at full back is a good option imo. Fee wouldn't be too high with his contract situation but we'd have to negotiate on his wage demands probably. Huddlestone on loan would add some experience/quality to our midfield. Sinclair on loan would add some much needed attacking threat from midfield although i'm not sure whether the premier league regulations would allow him to play for us this season. If not, depending on funds we should go for Aubameyang. We'd probably have to shift Ireland, Warnock and Hutton to balance the wages.
Believable8

Sinclair can't go on loan because he has already played for 2 clubs so far this season

Huddlestone would add some much needed presence to our midfield. His range of passing is on a different level to what we currently have. He's got the ability to set off our attacking players such as Gabby, Weimann and Benteke. If we can get the ball quickly and accurately to these players and tighten up in defence we should be fine this season.

Sources have said we have 10million I don't think that's true I think it would be about 15-20million. With that we can buy an experienced centre back - lescott or hangeland. Also we can buy and cdm - Huddlestone or Diame and finally a striker - either hooper or augbameyang. If we can't afford that the selling of bent would help a lot that would be at least another 8-12 million.
Believable4
Unbelievable5
Would love lescott, huddlestone and aughameyang. not sure hooper would hack it in the prem and don't see diame leaving west ham for us same as hangeland.

Aston Villa have enquired for Michael Dawson, PL sees Dawson as the ideal 'leader' of his young defence. Dawson is reportedly keen to move away from Tottenham given his treatment by AVB at the start of the season.

And would anyone take a chance on joey Barton

Are you mad Ireland is twice the player Dorrans s but he needs some quality around him, something that we lack in abundance.

Would get rid of ireland in a second. absolute waste of space. why would wba want him!
Agree1
Disagree6
Do people who go to watch the Villa actually comment on here? Ireland has been one of our better players this season when he has played. Is it his fault if delph, el ahmadi, bannan and co are not in sync with the way he plays. For the sake of the team then maybe he is not the right fit for us but for people to slate him as not being good enough and not putting in a performance need to get real!

Met an injured 1st team player at physio centre yesterday bent is on way.he is a great striker and saved us from relegation but since we lost young and downing which was his supply chain and we won't be playing that style of football anymore then its time to cash jn and move on does anyone disagree

We're apparently closing in on a loan deal for Scott Sinclair, he'd be a great signing & would give Bent & Benteke something to feed off.

A good player that would possible come to villa, Danny Simpson what do you think?
Believable7
Unbelievable3
I think we need a solid CB and also a creative CAM because lets face it villa irland is sht and we need someone with a pit of flair and energy on the attack
Agree4
Disagree3
I think we need some energy and flair in the middle of the park also i no it is out of reach but a santi carzola sort of player that has a bit of flair and offers a bit of a diffrent option on the attack. Also we need an exspirienced cb eg. LESSCOTT he would put the young bys in there place and get spirits up when we conseede
Agree4

Yes yes yes!!
Agree2

Danny Simpson wouldnt change anything at Villa currently.
Need to sort out the supply chain to Benteke and Wiemann. Maybe we have to sacrifice Gabby, Bent, Warnock, Dunne, NZogbia, Ireland and Hutton so that we can really get the four or five guys that we need.
Id like to see Derek Boateng as a ball winner and physical presence in the middle, Wilfried Zaha/Matt Phillips/Scott Sinclair as a creative presence, Scott Parker/Arteta type in the middle (not saying those two specifically - but a linking player better than Ireland) and perhaps this Augbamayang fellow who has shown great flair in front of goal recently.
Lescott is a pipe dream im sad to say, but even a Robert Huth type, who is no nonsense and very physical (dont like him at all and think hes dirty - but Villa need someone like that to get amongst it and not back down) to help keep it together at the back.

We were linked with Simpson in the summer but he wanted £40k a week he's not worth that so not for me
Sinclair is a good player an I'm sure he'd make an impact so yeah I'd have him at villa park, but priority should be a defender an a centre mid
Agree6

Villa have no fit/decent wing players. But as Mancini said, City have a shrunken squad so can't afford to sell or even loan out players.

No he can't go on loan because a player is not allowed to play for 3 bpl clubs in one season

Where does this rubbish come from? He, s on 90k per week, we can afford about 20. {Ed001's Note - he took a pay cut to join Liverpool, he would take another for guaranteed footie. Mind he can afford it as he is asking for 3.6m from Liverpool to leave.}

I don't understand, lambert said we needed experience but we kept being linked with people from the championship? We can't get more 'young talent' we need experience
Agree8

I think its a misconception that all players in the Championship are not experienced. I have no problem with PL signing a player from the Championship who is 25/26/27 and been playing regularly for a good few years. The concern is the players he is buyin only have a handful of years exp between then. For me Westwood looks like he could be the real deal but he needs a 'Reo-Coker' type player next to him

Persons wanting to bring back mon. With the amount of money he spent he failed and we are now paying the price. You only have to look at Sunderland to see what an outdated manager he is.
Agree2

Failed under MON? Cup final, 2 cup semi finals, challenging for top 4 three seasons runnin and bringing back some great European nights back to Villa Park. Sounds like a right failure.
Agree0
Disagree1
I CLEARLY wrote with how much money he spent. Those are ok but when he spent as much as he did he should have done better. Do you understand the relevance?
Agree0
Disagree1
Could have done better? Are you being serious?? Do you not remember where we were when he took over? Only Downing and Milner cost more then 10m so cant recall him wasting a fortune on any one player. To imply he spents 100's of millions of pounds for us not to have done better is ridiculous. Other then ManU and Arsenal (but not without funds), Chelsea and Man City (and Blackburn considering finances at that time) brought success by spending much more then MON did at the Villa. To turn a team from one in a relegation scrap to a team challenging for europe regularly playing fantastic and exciting football in a few seasons with what he spent is a good return for me. 'Those are ok...' Your response is actually laughable and very poor!

I think we are desperately missing stan, we need a copy of him, in my opinion we need 2 new defenders 2 midfielders and another striker all with premier league experience although i do think the current strikers we have are fine just need them midfielders and defenders who are experienced to show the young players what to do and no nonsense like. Really hoping lambert buys some experience this window we need it !! UTV

Aston Villa to sign Lewis Mcgugan from Notts Forest with Chris Herd (not Barry Bannan) moving in the opposite direction! Herd was a favourite of Ecks while he was in charge at villa.
Villa are also monitoring swap deals for Darren Bent with Fulham, West Ham, QPR and Stoke having enquired
Believable4

It's no good just saying 'swap deals' what players are coming to us !? {Ed003's Note - speculation Matty Phillips might}
Agree3

Swap deals as the other clubs do not believe Bent is worth villa's valuation of £15m. No word on any Fulham or QPR swap, villa are known to have an interest in Tomkins (West Ham) & Kenwyne Jones + Roberth Huth (Stoke).
Other line from today is Derek Boateng will arrive by the next home premier league game vs Southampton on Jan-12.
Chap

Is that definite for Derek boateng? and ed doesn't Marty Philips play for Blackpool? So if there was a swap deal with bent surely he wouldn't go {Ed001's Note - I don't think he was suggesting Phillips would be a swap deal, just that Villa are after him and they have the money to pay his wages, plus the lure of first team football in the Prem.}

Agree2

That was a great result even though we should of won! All the way through the first half we were getting exposed in the midfield. A defender and a midfielder are the main priorities in January. We are linked with a Danish bologna defender only 20 which I think isn't old enough to bring in for defence, but in midfield at Tottenham Sandro has taken parkers place so maybe a move for him? If not Huddlestone and to be honest a striker to keep benteke and weimann on there toes would be good
