The only deal that might be done with Bolton is the re-signing of Gary Cahill, which would cancel out a sell-on-clause.
A loan for Bentner is apparently also on the cards with Heskey being forced out of the team as Big Eck plans changes.

does anybody else not think that all this crap about the wage bill is taken a bit far. i mean scott parker i can understand as that would be an 8 million fee coupled with 70 k wage demands. But i read in the SUN today that were priced out of a move for barton cos of the wage demands. Im sorry but there is no transfer fee involved and he wants 70k a week. We did that with ireland when he was a makeweight in the milner deal so i just don't understand why we cant sign loan players or free players. Baffles me to be honest i mean what are mcleish and lerner expecting, players wont play for free for gods sake. Rant over. UTV

Just heard that Man City are offering Milner to Villa on a long season loan + first shot on buying him at the end of the year.
We would have to pay 65% of his wages though.
Expect a reshuffling of Villa's centre backs with Dunne & Collins expected to be sold & replaced.
Clark could be one of the replacement respectively.
Lerner also seems to see a move for Scott Dann a good investment.
Villa struggled last season in defence & a back four of:
Cuellar , Clark , Dann , Warnock
Could really push our quest for reaching the top 6.

Not that bothered about tonights result against Derby as it was 90% team of fringe/young players and some looked ok....but at least Mcleish has admitted.....(and it was on Sky Sports before you non believers say he has already said he is not spending anymore money)....that we need to improve the squad...expect to see a flurry of signings/bids over the next couple of weeks. We have contacted and spoken to Bartons agent already so its just a case of how we sell Aston Villa to him as he is going to decide where based purely on football reasons. Expect bids for a few of Spurs squad players Defoe, Hutton, Jenas and like wise city players Wright Phillips, Milner, Santa Cruz and possibly a couple of frees Der Hammer, Upson etc. We will also watch developments on both Samba and Dann and act according to interest and maybe a few unexpected younger signings too. Exciting times before the end of the window...watch

We can massively strengthen our team in the free transfer market alone, upson would boost the defensive options. Hitzlsperger can play anywhere in midfield so he is a great option too have, and barton can be that creative talent that we badly need to help supply the likes of Bent. If we buy anyone else i hope we sign Hutton and Long to be honest. What do you think ed?

Totally agree with the thoughts about our lack of attacking options without DB, we didm't have one shot on target in the first 45 minutes against Chelsea and only one shot in the entire half. Definately NEED a second striker of quality. ND tends to prefer to play in wider areas which lessens the threat he poses to goal. Thought Bannan was impressive during his short spell but again disappointed with Ireland.

Rumor that Mcleish is plotting to bring Gary Cahill back to Villa park for a reduced fee of around 9 million, essentially canceling the sell-on fee villa would receive if he was to move elsewhere, this coincides with another rumor that James Collins is leaving for Blackburn for around 3 million.
Villa also hope to sign Wesley Verhoek before the season gets underway.
