Rumour has it that Doncaster are interested in Stephen ireland, either way who ever buys him are going to get an over paid under performing player, a modern day example of a poor professional attitude. Be glad to see the back of him.

Slightly off topic, but here we go. Players and managers were moaning about the state of the pitch in Hong Kong, where vertonghen got injured. Sorry but there is no excuse I as a lad and most others had to play on pitches worse than that every sunday, and they wonder why grass roots football is struggling.

MATTtheCAT

1.) The problem is they are so used to playing on 'grass' which would be fit enough to carpet my living room. The can't play on a bit of frost, or when its a bit boggy, and they complain when it starts cutting up. I've seen sunday league pitches that could be mistaken for farmers fields, get the pro's to play on that and they'd drop like flies!

2.) Find some pics of Villa park in the 50s/60s and then you will really apprieciate the quality of todays grounds. In those bygone days the players trained on the actual pitch, hence the condition. No sympathy with spuds. I went to a 6th round game in the early 60/s and they turned the pitch into a mudbath with hose pipes prior to the match. Water polo would have been easier to play.

Rumour has it Paul Lambert could talk your wife into bed.

More contract renewals, unbeaten and a couple more players coming in. What's not to like being a villa fan atm. Good times and bad, bring on next season.

1.) I wish he would try with mine, then I might believe that he can walk on water!

2.) How much has paul lambert spent since taking charge? is it over 40 mil yet,
and to think he can recoup his outlay from selling 1 of his purchases is nothing short of miracle! Paul lamberts claret and blue army!!

3.) The whole point of football management is to hang on to players.

If he sold Tonev he would not recoup his outlay would he

We don't want to sell them.

4.) I think his point was if we'd had sold benteke for 25, we'd have then signed 10/11 players and only be £15m out of pocket. But I have to agree villadave, we should be holding on to players and i'm fairly sure we will (we even managed to keep the guy who tried very hard to force a move). Do you think if somebody had have bid for westwood or lowton he'd have sold them? PL's system is a very clever one either way, there was speculation over weimann, he upped his wages, gave him a reason to stay and everybody else looked else where, same applies with the other players who had some speculation surrounding them. The whole pay rise based on performances thing really works, obviously those that play well will have clubs interested, so what does lambert do? Cross his arms and put his phone on silent? no he sticks an improved contract offer on the table, the players sees the sum of money, paul lamberts says its due to his performance last season and the player then asks for a pen. Paul lambert is a genius, and I really think he is the man to take us back where we belong, for a very long time.
