is anybody else getting a little concerned about how long its taking to get delph's new contract sorted out ?
he's appears to have stopped making noises about being at villa for the rest of his career as well, just shows how lacking in foresight the club have been

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's true that it has taken a long time, not just on Delph's part but also Vlaar's. Vlaar may be offered a bumper deal.
I don't care how big the offers are for Vlaar and Delph, it's better to keep them. Whatever their wage demands are, I think that Lambert should sort out the contracts of these important Villa players.

Agree0 Disagree0

PL cannot sort out contracts until Lerner agrees an offer to the players. If Delphs agent gets interest from elsewhere he will go. Similar for Vlaar. Players are loyal to the agent, not the club.

Difficult to make a case for us getting anything today
Saw a bit of Costa at Madrid and was convinced he'd be a huge hit over here
Would happily settle for a scrappy point now

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Problem is Mendax we give the ball away time and time again.
We make 5 or 6 passes then give it back.
I think if you look at the stats since the season started we are in the bottom three for possession, shots on target, and shots off target, that is not good enough.
When we beat Liverpool we went for it in the first 20/25 minutes, got the goal and then watched them play for the rest of the game.
I just wish e were a bit more cavalier in our approach to games, if you get beat that's fine but for gods sake have a go.

Agree0 Disagree0

It all comes down to coaching Dave
It's about what they do from Monday to Friday that really counts
That's why I am so anti Lambert
We have been one of the worst teams in the league with regard to our style of play
It's woeful

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree mate, if you can remember we talked about coaching months ago, and to be honest I felt bringing Keane in our playing style might change for the better.
I think we will be ok this season come May, but I want to see as we all do more industry on the park.

Agree1 Disagree0

Lerner has promised funds for the January window according to some press reports. Perhaps some good news will arrive when Lerners purse is open as he seems as though he may not sell. When we get past the next couple of games we will be playing against middle of the table teams where we can actually measure ourselves. All of us would have accepted the points on the board that we have at the start of the season, so it ain't all bad. The style we play is with us and will not go away but we should have big Ben back very soon and perhaps some weight will be lifted from the forward line and a bit of pressure will be put on opponents defences.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with nearly all you say here Oldvillain. Apart from the bit about the style of play not going away
We are only stuck with long ball because of Lambert and the lack of a proper coach
Address that and we might see some half decent football

We all agree that the need for an attacking midfield player is paramount if AVFC are to move forward. At present Nolan cannot get into the Hammers team and could be available come January. He is an excellent leader on the pitch and scores a regular number of goals. ONLY 32 so has a few years left in him. Could he offer something at VP?

25 Sep 2014 13:04:55
No.

Agree2 Disagree1

Also No.

Agree2 Disagree0

Also no! :-)
Already got a 32 yr old playmaker-need to find a younger model. Which is easier said than done.

Agree2 Disagree0

No i appreciate he pops up with a goal but as u said he can't get in the west ham team that's enough to tell u have answered your own question.

I see that Gardner was an unused sub for Brighton at the weekend
Not sure how he has done in the rest of the games but it's a worry if a player many were promoting as the player we should build our midfield around can't get a game at Championship level
Anyone know any more about his stint on the coast ?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi Mendax.
Since he joined them he has warmed the bench twice, and I believe he was not used at any point during those games.
Lost for words really mate, its as you say a worry.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes Dave. Either he was never as good as many seem to have thought or maybe those injuries have taken their toll
Don't want to write the lad off but it seems a shame

Agree2 Disagree0

Obviously PL is not such a poor judge of players after all.

Very unfortunate that we have a virus that meant that Clark got a game, but again he was on an away day. Right place but wrong guy with an early chance and then out of position for Wellbecks goal and somewhat fo Ozil goal. Clarks positional sense is at best mediocre and at worst a liability. Overall the team performance was good and 2 goals in about a minute was not reflective of the game there is still work to be done but when Vlarr comes back alongside Sennderous the back line will be more secure.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Oldvillan.
That team performance was not good mate.
I am sorry but we gave the ball away very cheaply, and had nobody who could put his foot on the ball and orchestrate anything through midfield.
Virus aside, I also felt Sanches was way off the pace.
Having said all that, any good side should have players who can fill in when needed without too much disruption.
In all of our games so far our possession and shots on or off target is shocking and needs to be addressed ASAP.
Early days I know but we need to control games more and stop watching teams play around us.

Just seen on tv news that Larry Ellison has stepped down at Oracle. could it be to do with a take over of villa?? As he has been linked. interesting.

You'd think he'd want a challenging hobby wouldn't you.

Does anyone else think this new 4 year deal for lambert is abit if a joke?
Last year we scrapped staying up, everyone was mocking his transfer signing in the summer (although some proving very good) and now he signs a new 4 year deal for 4 good results. What's all that about, surely to earn a new contract you have to do more than that

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Had me scratching my chin as well
That said, contracts mean very little these days
I'd be amazed if Lambert was still here in 4 years time

Agree1 Disagree1

Hi Jennings.
Not really, we are trying to sell the club so we need a steady ship.
Learner must show faith in his manager after all he gave him the job, and with our blessing I might add.
To be honest I am more concerned about player contracts, get them sorted.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree villadave - surely Delphs contract was more of a priority over buttons & lamberts ?
by the way - how was your holiday ?

Agree0 Disagree0

No surprise at all! PL did the job he was given. He kept AVFC in the prem, reduced the wage bill and has started the season well. I don't expect us to stay where we are but the future looks better than for a long time. PL has Been rewarded for doing his job under extreme pressure from some, not all, of the supporters. Lerner opened his purse just enough and allowed PL to bring in experience to stabilise the team. Yes he bought a few donkeys and some have gone elsewhere to other pastures but we still have some good players that many on here questioned being signed. At the end of the day if we get into the middle of the table after spending zilch will PL get any respect from some supporters? I guess not!

Agree0 Disagree1

"Hola" brynner.

Thanks for asking mate, we had three cracking weeks in Spain doing nowt.
Problem was when I tried to talk to anybody about my beloved team they thought I was talking about bloody houses.

Good news, have seen on SSN that Benteke has been back in training. I'm sure he won't feature against arsenal but fingers crossed we will have home back on the pitch soon!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeh Spike, have seen similar reports as well.
Looking forward to having him back mate.

Who knows, we could be top of the table by the end of the weekend!!

Arsenal fan here in peace. Was just wondering if anyone can reccommend where is good to park on match day for the ground. Coming down on Saturday to watch the gunners and not sure where to park?? Help greatly appreciated (and with the name i should really know the area as well lol)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi Gooner.

Try behind Aston Parish church coming in towards the Holte End, head towards the flyover there are a couple of club and pub car parks in that area, its called Aston hall road.
Failing that try our website, it gives direction for all means of transport, under Transport Section.

is paul lambert still the worst manager villa have had?, from the clean sheets, character shown, add the superb performances, especially from senderos, and the confidence it has brought to the rest of the side can only bode well bring on the gooners let's make villa park bounce the way it did in'81'.
relegation? no way

Believable1 Unbelievable1

14 Sep 2014 19:37:06
Still not PL fan but if it was his idea to bring in RK, brill .as I think he's responsible ,being on the training field, also only Westwood left in the team from those rubbish buys from the previous 2 seasons

Great show by the lads today.
I love the fact that we have gone from a team of lightweights to a team who can bully other teams
Not always pretty and we still need another couple of players but this has been a great start

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Mendex, all summer you were concerned about the signings we were bringing in, good to see your comeing around to the fact we have a pretty good squad

Agree0 Disagree0

Still think the squad has some glaring deficiencies Mick. Just happy with the start.
We need a wide player with pace, back up at fullback, an attacking midfield player or two and another striker.

Just wondered what your thoughts are on the score for the Liverpool game.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I'm delighted with the win.
Villa's defence was so organized, and the attackers played very well at the start of the match.
A fully deserved 1-0 victory.
I was a little worried when I saw Villa's tactics, but they managed to put a solid performance. Agree?

Good afternoon Ed, not exactly club related but any idea whether Jack Grealish will play for the English or Irish national team?
Cheers,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - If he has got any sense he would pick Ireland and I'm sure Roy Keane will do his best to convince him.}

Well judging by my sign in name I think its obvious I'm Irish so yeah, I'd love to have him putting on the Irish jersey, quality emerging talent if he can keep his head on his shoulders and hopefully we'll be talking about him as one of the great Irish players in a new era for Ireland!
Cheers,

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Sep 2014 19:09:54
I think he would have more sense choosing england. After all, all you have to do is listen to him to see he is completly brummy. Without meaning to affend I don't believe playing for Ireland is a big land mark whereas I do think england is. I also believe he can make it there aswell

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - It's only English people who think playing for England means anything, and they only think that because of the English media. It's no more a landmark than playing for any other country and I'm sure Paul Lambert and Roy Keane would disagree with you as well.}

03 Sep 2014 23:30:14
Does anybody else share my view that the current squad is the strongest since Lambert arrived? In fact, stronger than the McLeish era also?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

04 Sep 2014 22:06:33
Completly agree really strong midfield now and solid denfense when benteke is back we will have a really good team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Certainly the strongest Lambert had had but let's be honest. That ain't saying much
Surprised to see how well Senderos and Cissokho have shored up the defence
The Senderos signing had me reaching for the rosary beads but up to now he has been excellent.
What we really lack is some invention in midfield, a good winger (I think N'Zog is hopeless and Grealish a little too inexperienced) and someone to partner or at times stand in for Benteke

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Sep 2014 21:57:19
Things must be hugely positive if Mendex is being even slightly positive ;), good times at villa atm but the next 5 games are going to be a huge test

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha ha ha
I knew someone would take me to task
Always said my comments are a reflection of the team not of my own personality. (which is surprisingly cheerful by the way)
Long may it continued

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair saying best squad in years is like saying best STD to have we look ok but still don't think we are good enough. lacking in few keys places that will show after time

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Sep 2014 19:06:23
Can I ask where you actually think we are lacking. All I can see is that we have 2 good players for each position and if we lose a player in any position we have a good player to come in to replace him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Out wide is one area and I would love someone to identify a creative midfield player that we possess
Also, are Weimann or Gabby adequate replacements for Benteke?
It's been a good start and we are all happy about it. But let's not get ahead of ourselves and convince ourselves this a good squad

Agree1 Disagree0

Guzan gets injured whos in goal?, LB or RB, and as much as we as supporters love them gabby and weimann aren't goal scorers

Agree1 Disagree0

Rather disappointed Lambert hasn't tried to do anything with his connection to Dortmund. Not that it's a strong link but I'm sure it would open a door or two for him. Zorc is the sports director and he too was part of the Champions League winning team. Jonas Hofman is a quality Dortmund player who's gone out on loan to Mainz, sure we could have snapped him up. Dortmund have a number of players like that we could have gone after. yes, young, not the experience we're looking for, but you can't really argue that Cleverly has that either. Would just be nice to see him try and play that card.

SSN cleverly loan for rest of season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Sep 2014 11:51:48
Looks like Tom Cleverley could still be on his way to Villa via Loan, I think this suits everyone as I woud have preferred loan to giving him 4 year contract, this way we can see what he has to offer, no brainer UTV

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Delighted to see everton have pulled out of cleverlys wage demands as well, now he has to sit in the wilderness of uniteds reserves and come to terms with his greed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2014 22:51:57
Have to say I was quite excited by the prospect of Canales so have now been left a little deflated
That said, I would prefer us try and occasionally fail for players of Canales quality, rather than succeed with players of KEA's quality
Hopefully this means the penny has dropped. Namely that you get what you pay for and you can't polish a turd.

P. S Not bothered in the slightest that we missed out on Cleverley

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2014 22:10:18
well just like the last window, an abject failure of the club to enhance the quality of the squad at villa, why? how is it that of palace, can get several in but us we are a perennial failure, who is to blame for this? somebody is, if money was there for cleverly, why not use it?we 're always told we'r elooking at a few 'things' by lambert, but its obvious sthese things don't actually exis t, time the club was honest to the supporters on the takeover, issue, playing staff, ground expansion or anything else

Believable0 Unbelievable1

01 Sep 2014 20:56:28
ssn report villa have walked away from cleverly deal over wages demands

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just another example of the greed these players have today, to be honest everton can have him, can't see him getting a game there either. but the saddest thing is we can no longer complete in the transfer window. there was a time when the likes of a mediocre player like cleverly would have jumped at the chance to join us.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2014 20:22:01
Never ceases to amaze me why villa leave it till transfer deadline day to put in a bid for a player i.e Sergio Canales only to be told clear off. now the panic sets in oh my god what are we going to do paul he as rejected us. pathetic.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sergio cansles a eal talent and would light up the nidfield like a firework, trouble is, he's had 3 clubs in 18 month sand is just 8 months into a four year dea lwould we get loyalty? hard to tell
