Disappointing overall, the really sad thing is that before the game I would've taken the draw. We are in for a roller coaster ride this season, hopefully not a relegation battle but nothing so far this season tells me otherwise. 1 thing for sure is that we need some pace outside, playing Albrighton so tight gives him no chance to get beyond, Nzog looked slightly better when he came on. I am distressed writing this but if we don't' get our act together soon Championship here we come! Bent will also want out come January, watch this space! Villa till I die!

Believable0 Unbelievable1

There's something very headless chickeness about this Villa team. Albion were the more composed team today where as Villa run around a lot but not much else, long season ahead.

idon't think we should get ahead of ourselves after last night seeing as it was city's 2nd team.

Yippyioooo

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Wasn't exactly our first team though, no bent and ireland, no Holman who has figured in all the other games. I'd say we did very well, city's second team is still a damn good team

Agree1 Disagree0

Balloteli, barry, milner and tevez also dzeko thats 5 first team players still a very very strong squad

Agree2 Disagree0

Only about £170m of players in blue. 50p players in s-t yelloow.

Barry Ban-ana should be dropped for Carruthers for the City game midweek.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Would be nice to see Carruthers have a run in the side, whats the worst that could happen, can't get much worse then losing 4-1 to the Saints, maybe PL should make a few more changes!!

As a Celtic supporter I was pleased to see Paul Lambert doing well in his managerial career. Now he is at your club he has become somewhat of a diva.
He is trying to step into the great Martin O,Neils shoes but has not got the credentials to do this. His latest ploy is to fine players using mobile phones. Wonder if he uses his? Anyway its beennice talking to you. Have a successful season. HAIL HAIL. {Ed007's Note - That's not anyone's latest ploy, that is actually very common at training grounds etc including at CFCs. Players are there to train, not to be talking on phones. Go to any workplace like a factory and ALL employees will know using a mobile phone on the job results in instant dismissal. PL is well within his rights to do this and I actually applaud him for it, footballers get it far too easy, they get paid a fortune so the least they can do is give the club and manager the respect both deserve as their manager and wage payer. Far too much pussy-footing around spoilt men acting like kids. The game needs more manager's like PL who will demand 100% from players at all times, it might not be in the mess it is in if their were more real managers rather than coaches.}

Believable1 Unbelievable3

The "Great Martin O'neill"?
In Scotland he was competing against Mcleish for chrissake.
The man is the most overrated manger I have ever known. Kick and rush football and no knowledge of the world market in players, whatsoever.
Our decline since he left (before someone brings it up as evidence of the man's "genius") is all to do with Lerner's reluctance to spend big after getting his fingers so badly burned by the cost of O'neills poor acquisitions. Sunderland are welcome to him
Mendax

Agree2 Disagree1

As a Celtic fan I would like to wish Villa all the best for the season. I'm sure that given time Lambert will turn things round. His experience in Germany as a player and doing his coaching badges over there will help him break with the usual staleness of British systems. Good manager's don't need multi million pounds to spend on their squad, Lambert will use his contacts to find some gems for you. Anyway as I said, good luck for the season. Celtic fans wish you and your manager success.

The Fonz aint half trying to impress lambert. Hes on loan at Bpool and starting tonight against Mboro. Hes got a brace before half time. In my eyes he wants a chance with us.

On another fact bpool seem to get good performances out of our younger players. Maybe we should link up with them give them a good few youngsters on loan a season. Try get phillips and ince off them. {Ed003's Note - back off tiger.....they aint for sale :-) }

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I agree i think sending carruthers, Burke, seigrist there may help there e development

Agree0 Disagree0

"he wants a chance with us"..The lad has had 3 years of chances with us
Mendax

Agree0 Disagree1

You say tht but McClueless only played him when all our strikers were injured with defensive tactics.

MON played him as a winger 90% of the time.

Did he play under houlier? I dont remember seeing him.

From what I've seen,so far this season,I would like to see PL sign Douglas,Gouffran,Brahimi and Bony in January. Bed them in wjth present squad and have a bloody good go next season ,providing we dont sell anyone, with the exception of Hutton and Warnock.

Just watched the game live, I am confident in saying that it's the best performance in a long, long time. Lambert appears to know how to get Ireland to play and with Vlarr at the back the future must be bright! I

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Good solid performance. Another sub standard from Bent though. She how he goes against Southampton and then he should be benched and let Gabby have a run.

1st Time in Years but a Welcomed Refreshing Dilemma that as a #Villafan I cant name our starting 11 for our next match.........but I'll have a pop. p.s your free to disagree it's a democracy after all..

Guzan
Lowton Vlaar[capt] Clark Bennett

Holman KEA Bannan Ireland

Benteke Gabby

Subs to be used Westwood for Holman after running his guts out for 70mins, Bent for Benteke after his debut goal & great impact maybe lacking match fitness, Bowery for Gabby on 80mins, to give us a 10min look at Benteke & Bent together.

I have a feeling Benteke will hit the ground running, what a handfull he'll prove to be, Pace/Strength/Raw Power & Ability

Believable0 Unbelievable0

How can bent and benteke play together, when like you said benteke will start and bent will replace him??

Every 1 is lauding Holman, the guy is a free kick waiting to happen. Every team needs energy but not aimless running. He was also to blame for the goal.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

He also played several very nice through balls, but you wouldn't of see that on match of the day. If Holman was running around aimlessly as you so erroneously stated, then we would have been over run in midfield like we were against everton

Agree8 Disagree1

Strange that nearly every pundit I heard made him man of the match
Mendax

Agree5 Disagree0

I streamed it live, all I saw were him committing fouls. He was bought to create, he is a free kick waiting to happen.

Agree0 Disagree5

I didn't see all the match so I will have to trust your judgement on this one mate. What I would say is that after watching teams cut through us like a knife through butter last season, seeing someone run about and put his foot in for 90 minutes is fairly welcome. We are a long way off being Barcelona at the minute
Mendax

Agree4 Disagree0

I also streamed it live and while he committed a few fouls he also contributed to transitional fazes of play, with the current system all our midfielders must show both sides to the game. I agree with Mendax. A strong presence is what was needed.
Villa till I fry

Agree4 Disagree0

I watched the match and i did not see any through balls, ssaying that i also dont think he is a free kick waiting to happen. he broke the geordies midfield up and did not let them play

Agree1 Disagree1

Holman Man of the Match against Swansea I for one love having someone wearing the claret and blue who is prepared to run all game and get stuck in, so what if he gives away a few freekicks.

So Benteke..? Anyone like to tell me if the lad is any good not seen anything off him! Ed what you recon? {Ed003's Note - not seen much of him sorry mate}

Believable3 Unbelievable0

He's scored 3 goals in his last 5 matches and 18 goals last season

He's regarded as a diamond in the rough has great potential

Randy Lerner is a good owner he has done nothing to harm the villa apart from the mcleish slip up but even with him at the helm we were a hard team to beat and i can assure any of you so called supporters that if things arnt working out by January Lerner will do what is necessary to keep villa in the premier league it is in his interest to keep his company where the money keeps coming the man sits on a mountain of wealth he ent stupid. I for one will be right behind my team this season got some classy young players come in that are better than our youth/reserves so let the good times roll.

VILLA TILL I SNUFF IT!

Believable5 Unbelievable0

I agree with this post more than it is possible to agree with something, i don't know whether you have stole that opinion from my own head cos I was worried I'm the only villa fan who is sensible mate. Ill stand behind the villa with you all day mate, thank lord mcgrath that there are some villa fans who don't whinge like baggies fans

Agree3 Disagree0

I honestly feel optimistic under Lambert and feel we'll be a force again i also like the philosophy of who's playing in the best form starts with no gauranteed names on the team sheet

Agree2 Disagree0

Not so long ago newcastle fans wanted to hang their chairman but he kept a tight ship and only spent what needed to be spent 2 seasons later they were in europe and fighting for forth spot, please have faith would you all rather he spent 100 mil and plunge the club into dept or builed for 2/3 seasons on a buget

Agree2 Disagree0

I fully understand and share your sentiments exactly. The progress model is very slow but it's effective and it works. Newcastle, everton, stoke, arsenal to some extent, you wouldn't see those teams going down and thy built slowly, sold their best players but somehow managed to remain as good if not better as a team

Agree1 Disagree0

Im sure premier league defenses will be having nightmares at the prospect at facing jorden bowery

Agree2 Disagree1

Bowery has been bought in for the future , benteke, gabby, bent, weimann that's our strike force and it's better than last seasons. And im not being funny mr sarcastic but given the same amount of time on the pitch Bowery would most certainly score more than the one solitary goal that big emile got last season. I for one would be happy to see him come off the bench

Agree2 Disagree1

If Lambert wanted a centre-mid, why didn't he go for huddelstone on loan instead of going for westwood? He's fairly young at 25 and a quality player!

Believable0 Unbelievable7

Huddlestone is injury prone like Jenas is therefore lambert brought a player who was captain of his club at 21 which is an achievement and regarded as a player for the future

Agree9 Disagree0

Huddlestone has a dodgy ankle

Agree6 Disagree0

Because he's a liability, hence his disgraceful tackle, don't be fooled cos he scores from distance. Steven Gerard he is not. Immobile, lacking passion, often greedy with the shot, not the best range of passing and lastly the aforementioned tendency to throw his bulk at the oppositions ankles in order to win back a ball

For all you moanin out there. Weve made somethin like 8 signings so we cant complain, and 2 every1 saying its a champ squad.Take a look at his norwich squad who finished above us last season with there "championship" team have abit of faith. Utv!

Still no decent midfield playmaker brought in, no good buying strikers if you don't get the ball to them.
