looking at the fixtures till the end of January I think Lambert should be setting a target of 10 points as a minimum from the next 5 games.

If the reports are true; which less face it, they probably aren't; would anyone be happy at the prospect of paying £7.5 million for Cleverley in January when he is available for nothing in the summer ?
How do you feel at the prospect of buying him
generally?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I feel he has fitted in well and works hard, overall a good addition to the team. The only risk of waiting until the run down of his contract would be another club coming in for him and we lose out again on a good player. I say confirm the deal in Jan

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Mendax.
Not for me really mate, I don't think he gives us anything we haven't already got.
I would rather spend that sort of money on a real No 10.
A player who can create something, a cheap David Silva or a Hazard.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Dec 2014 22:38:49
Not going to get many cheap silvas or hazards. Also cleverly can play in that No.10 role and when he was at his best at United that's where he was playing. The simple fact is lambert doesn't play a formation that includes a No.10 so that's why we don't play him there.

Agree0 Disagree1

Well all I can say then VillaTID, Its about time that Lambert woke up then.
We are not going to get the best out of Benteke until we start playing with a decent winger and a quality attacking midfielder.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Dec 2014 00:31:43
I don't disagree villadave, lambert for me has never had a clue. His team selections are poor and gabby is just simply not good enough. Weiman is very on and off and Zog is completely useless. Lambert needs to grow a pair and start grealish or Robinson. Look what happened when Barkley and januzaj got there chance. It's are getting to the point where they aren't going to actually be that young anymore and become another wasted villa talent along with many others ie herd bannan agbonlahor Clark (although he's been good recently). Southampton seem to try a new kid every week and look what they've built. Just need to try something because gabby is completely useless. I'd prefer bacuna to be honest.

Agree1 Disagree0

I can`t add any more to that VillaTID
Totally agree with everything you say mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

So that consensus is it would be a bad move by the look of it.
I tend to agree. Cleverley looks like another player in midfield that gives us perspiration rather than inspiration
With Benteke fit I would like to see us give Grealish his head and buy another out and out winger to play on the opposite side to him
I'd then encourage the midfielders to take turns breaking into the box to support the big man
I wouldn't have N'zog anywhere near the first team squad and I'd use Gabby purely as a sub

Agree0 Disagree0

I would go with that Mendax.

Agree1 Disagree0

When you right it down it seems so damn obvious Dave
Why can't Lambert see it ?

Agree0 Disagree0

That's a good Question Mendax

My feelings tell me he is not good enough mate.
As a manager surely you need more than one way to approach the task you face.
Take our next game, I would play Robinson and Grealish instead of Gabby and Weimann, and give Grealish the freedom to roam.
We sit too deep and invite teams on to us and end up passing sideways all the time.
Lambert can see it but lacks the B---- to change it.

Agree0 Disagree0

What happened to the season of goodwill to all men!!

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Dec 2014 22:01:01
He clearly does lack the balls as I said above. All of us said okore was a class act and should be starting and in the end it was completely forced on him and guess what. Okore is a class act. He never let's us see what we have, he gives us no information on who is doing well and how close the two young ones are to the starting 11 and he will only ever play his favourites (gabby and Weiman mainly). It's time for him to leave as soon as possible please.

Agree0 Disagree0

Difficult to argue with any of that Villatid.
Old villain, I assume you are joking

Agree1 Disagree0

Earlier this season posters were saying that Okore was unproven and unlikely to make the grade.
Okore was listed as one of the best buys pre 13/14 season but injury meant that e could not play.
Clark is the surprise. His improvement is remarkable.
Pl is now playing 3at the back which some posters doubted. Earlier this season.
You are right to point out that we lack goals, not opportunities, and that is down to the players. Why would janutzy want to come to VP? Some of the players lack the skill to create the space to shoot, (see Benteke against MU) and until these players show a bit more, we will still lack goals.
It is not coaching, it is an instinct that goalscorers

Agree0 Disagree1

Sorry Oldvillan I disagree.
I think Coaching probably makes for 75% of a player or teams potential.
Some players are naturally gifted others are not.
Singers need coaches, Dancers need coaches, so do footballers.
Players tend to do what they are told to do on the pitch, they do not go out there and please themselves do they !!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

pleased to see the comments from Tom Fox aiming for european football in 3 years time, albeit difficult to envisage this at the moment.

but he's making that statement publicly so its great to hear something (anything!) from the club about it's intentions and by someone who is in a position to be held accountable.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Hi Ed.
Have you got any info on the rumour circulating with spuds and Villa, Delph out Dembele in ???

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am looking into it to check if there is any change, but last I heard Delph was wanting to let his contract run down. Dembele was attracting interest from Everton in the summer, but I am not sure if Besic was instead of or if they wanted both. I don't know of any interest from Villa in him, but I am trying to check now.}

11 Dec 2014 20:29:38
Will Carlos Sanchez make up for the loss of Westwood to injury????????????NNNOOOO

are you kidding me? he's is right up there with one the worst signings PL has made in the last few seasons, and that's a hell of a list at minute

Believable0 Unbelievable4

Sorry strikes and the guy above.

I think Sanchez will be a good player for us.
Always makes himself available, and most of the time keeps it simple.
He has lost concentration a couple of times, but that is down to the pace in the prem.
I like him and think he will get better as he picks up the pace.

Agree1 Disagree0

Once again I find myself in total agreement with Villadave (what the hell is going on ???)
I like the look of Sanchez. I think he'll steadily improve throughout the year and will be really good next year (assuming we are in the division)

Agree0 Disagree0

Strikes are you crazy, Sanchez has real promise, yeah it's taking him a bit of time to get used to the prem but he reads the game well, breaks up play and is quick to move the ball forward. Much better than others brought in before. Can only get better for me

Agree0 Disagree0

Sanchez always looks to be available and puts himself in a position to take the ball. If the rest of the team did the same we would improve.
However he does give a poor pass on occasions but he always tries to get the ball back

Agree0 Disagree0

Blimey, I'm agreeing with Oldvillan now !!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well done Mendax, but it probably won't last.
I believe that we all look for the same end but we see it from different view points.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on Oldvillan.
Same end with differing views

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Sanchez is just finding his feet in the prem and will be a beast next season!

Think we need to brake the bank to get Sigurdsson to Villa park in January, he is just what we are missing! would be an excellent signing that would brake us away from this relegation scrap we've been in for too many seasons now. UTV

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Dec 2014 15:39:42
well i guess its just me then, i just feel when ever he's on the ball i'm expecting him to make a mistake and he just always seem to be out of position for me

Agree1 Disagree3

Hey guys, Danish Chelsea fan here in peace. I just wanted to know what you guys think of Jores Okore

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Jury still out on Okore mate, Panics a bit but early days yet.
What`s all this peace rubbish.

Agree0 Disagree1

Hi Ed
Can I ask what has happened to my last reply to Oldvillan about 2 hrs ago please.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it didn't come through sorry.}

Has anyone noticed how scathingly our club is talked about in the media and by other fans ?
Has our stock ever been so low ?
We are seen as a bit of a pathetic circus of a club
Thanks for that Mr Lerner and Mr Lambert

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Yes I have Mendax, and I agree our stock has never been so low.
What bothers me is that the whole structure of the club has been affected, youth teams, reserves, club staff, and us as fans.

Agree1 Disagree1

What I am finding is that most fans of other clubs cannot understand the predicament we find ourselves in at the moment.
There is some p-s- taking but that is both ways.
Aston Villa still hold a certain respect in many quarters and will continue to do so. We will turn a corner at some time and then march forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest Oldvillan I don`t think other fans give a rats behind about our plight.
And respect exists in the present tense if it deserves it, not what happened years ago.
We have a great club name at the moment mate, nothing else.

Agree1 Disagree1

Obviously you don't talk to real supporters of football rather than of an individual club.
I find general followers of football are amazed at the decline of AVFC and would like to see the club on the rise again.
These people respect our past.

Now if you talk about clubs that have spent £m's then they become less happy.
AVFC still hold the interest of a lot of
People and those that take the p. are not that many, they are just the loudest.
Old proverb " empty vessels make the most noise. "
people.

Agree1 Disagree2

Don`t worry Oldvillan the people you are talking too don't want to upset you, they are trying too humour you, they think you have a sore point !!
The friends and people I talk to are in the main very knowledgeable about football mate, in fact some are on this site.

Agree1 Disagree1

Dave I don't worry about other supporters as much as you think.
My interest is AVFC and most of the other clubs supporters are quite willing to make their true opinions known.
Where I am now living most supporters follow MU, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool and I am pretty sure that they will give me an honest statement, even when not asked!

Agree1 Disagree1

Honest statement, don't you believe it mate.
You have said it yourself, why would they give you an opinion if you don't even ask for one ?

Anyway Oldvillan Come on you Lions

Agree1 Disagree2

03 Dec 2014 11:55:33
Not pretty but 3 points. The enthusiasm was there and they put themselves on the line.
Palace went with everything and we rode our luck. Ben sparkled and some more efforts as this and we could be moving up. 6 pts off 6th and the same from the bottom, mid table and hopeful.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Against Burnley we played some of our best football with JC as part of the front three, so what did Lambert do last night.play him in the middle three????. Shocking. We were very lucky last night, again we couldn't keep hold of the ball and no movement upfront. You can't blame the defence for looking dodgy. Just a constant onslaught. Just not good enough, good job we were playing a poor team!!!!

Agree1 Disagree0

Hi Wozdvilla.
Agree with everything you say mate.
I said I will not be going to VP again while PL is manager and I still stand by that, unless there is a drastic change in team performances and direction.
I am streaming games online so that I can still give an opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dave,
You may be gone for a long time mate. PL is going nowhere, Lerner will support him as he has followed instructions to the letter. Bent on loan gives evidence of this as most of his pay will come from Brighton.
Lerner wants performance related pay, he made that statement about 3 years ago, and unless we improve dramatically Lerner is going to be a happy man.
Lambert is between two stools. He has to work on a negligible budget and we want success, problem is the two don't mix.
Hopefully you will be back sooner than later but I believe PL will still be there trying to do a job.

Agree0 Disagree1

Oldvillan.
If Lerner wants performance related pay as you put it, how come Lambert is still in a job ??

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Dec 2014 15:26:13
Got to agree with Dave

Agree0 Disagree0

He has a contract that is legal and binding. The only way for Lerner to get rid of PL is by mutual agreement and that won't happen.
And remember PL is carrying out the Yanks orders!

Agree0 Disagree0

None of us have seen the contract Oldvillain
That aside, Houllier had a contract, Mcleish had a contract and they were both gone within a year of signing it

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Mendax, none of us have seen the contract but we know there is a contract.
Lerner does not care, he wants out ASAP so if a buyer can be found they will have the option of dispensing or retaining Lambert.
Lerner is a another invisible man, we have had them before, and he has left local decisions to Fox so that he can opt out of difficult situations.
Let us see if he agrees money in January for PL to try and get some players into b6.
Also some may say there has been an improvement and it may continue if we an dispose of the Foxes on Sunday.
My glass is still half full but many already have empty glasses.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm sure there is a contract mate.
I didn't explain my point very well though
My point is that we have no idea what clauses are involved in said contract
For example; it could be that Lerner only has to pay up Lambert for 6 months if he sacks him
My point being, we are all getting stressed about the fact Lambert has this new 4 year deal when it may not be worth much
Personally I would still be happy if he was paid 10 years severance pay as long as it meant he was never allowed in VP again

Agree2 Disagree2

Can't agree!

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Dec 2014 20:50:09
On a more light hearted matter, where is Kingvilla? How can we get new players if he is not spotting them for us.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

02 Dec 2014 08:06:07
These next 3-4 games are our season I don't see anywhere on the fixture list where we can go on a bit of a run except for these, if lambert gets it wrong he should just walk away

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Dec 2014 18:56:43
Interesting comment from a prem. manager who likes to play a passing game. He simply told the players to lump it into the opposing box. Perhaps that is where it goes wrong at VP? The payers ty to pass the ball too often and should follow suit and lump it into the box. Stood big Sam well for years but he has changed. However when needed Hammers still lump it for Carol to stick her head on it.
More positive, 3 points 3 games, cross your fingers for at least another point tomorrow. Ben back, Okores and Clark look like they can play together, signs looking better. More forward balls less sideways, a la Wilkins, and we could get somewhere.
I don't care if it ain't pretty providing we get points!

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Oldvillan
It ain`t been pretty all season and we still don't win points.
As fans we know what is needed on the pitch.
Lambert must go mate, simple as.

Agree0 Disagree0

Accept the fact, PL is going nowhere. His boss knows he is doing as instructed which means his job is safe. What we want is of no interest to Lerner, if it did he would have invested. There maybe managers out there that can do a better job as the fans see it, but it ain't going to happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oldvillain, although I agree with you to some extent, I do feel you overstate the "Lambert is only following orders" idea.
Yes, Lerner has clearly tightened the purse strings but his great crime is one of apathy rather than some great conspiracy
We are not a top six side with the money invested in recent years and that is Lerner's fault; We also should not be a bottom six side with the
investment made and that is squarely Lambert's fault.
If this goes on Lerner will relieve Lambert of his duties; make no mistake
Lerner is a lot of things but an person is not one of them

Agree0 Disagree0
