It's to my understanding that the FA are looking at clubs to reduce wage bills thus making it fair for everyone. Guess I'm wrong on this? If I'm right my comments were simply made to understand how other teams have no respect for the rules! Not a big FM fan, more fond of scoring goals and winning games!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

This is correct all the prem teams have to have their players being paid less than there revenue by 2013 and Villa's revenue is roughly 90m and the wages were at 80m this is why they've cleared out so much attempting to reduce it to 65m.

I feel this is a bumper year for Villa as next summer we'll have the likes of Heskey and Petrov at the end of their contracts so we'll see abit more come in

Once again no ambition! I here we've signed a under 21 shamrock rovers player for January. He'll either be a waste or we'll get him to a level and sell him to man u, man city, etc etc. I hear Hutton may be signing for fulham, not a bad move really, I think herd more than capable of filling youngs shoes. Once again another quiet transfer window for the villa! After missing out on cole there's really no one else worthy of wearing the claret and blue. Think Carlton cole would look good in the colours though!

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Is this the same Carlton Cole who was useless for Villa 4 season's ago do us a favour Bendtner would of been good coup or
Shane Long who in my opinion was one of the bargains of the summer next to Given and SWP

Its a good job joe coles gone to lille as he isnt physically strong enough as a centre midfielder, and theres no space out wide where he has had his best days, he couldnt even get into a poor liverpool team last season. He is off to lille because he has had his day in the prem.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Seem to recall that he put in a decent performance against us at the end of last season. Think he would have been a reasonable "loan" signing and offered ud experience, quality and variety.

ONE DAY LEFT WHO'S COMING IN NOW A COUPLE MORE PLAYERS ARE OUT

a Right back: Hutton, Demmel, Williams?

a Centre midfielder:Huddlestone,Gibson,Kayal, Dempsey?

a Forward:Giovonni Sio?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

16 players gone --- 4 in if jenas and hutton sign,, what a joke milner sale paid for for bent,,, so where young and downing money oh 9.5 nzogbia and 4 given.. where the other 25 - 30 mill.. villa till i die and will back them through the bad and the worse...however randy needs to get a grip and realise its the fans that keep a club afloat....

I see we have missed the boat with hargreaves, typical villa transfer saga again leave it till the 11th hour then come away with egg on our faces again, as nobody left worth having.

Young was on £40-50,000 a week
Makoun was on £60,000 a week.
Hogg was on £10,000 a week.

Sorry but there is no way in hell Makoun was on 60k. We've been we've been trying to crush the wage bill since before january, so why would have we bought a player and gave him that kind of wage. Makoun is on 40k max and hogg was on about half that. Were not getting the wages down so we can just go out and get them back up again.. I think we'll got for hutton and hargreaves then that will be that. {Ed008's Note - Hutton close to a deal and Hargreaves reportedly having "medical" at City.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Young turned down 50k a week at Liverpool last season, I think Makoun is on 35-45k a week and L Young was somewhere between 60-80k.

hello aston villa how would yous like glasgow rangers and glasgow celtic to play in england am asking all me personally think it would be great thing as the old firm need a fresh start

Believable4 Unbelievable10

Think its a great idea - 4 easy wins for that season as they will both be relegated after that. Do they go back to the spl after relegation or get relegated from the championship a year later?

Agree10 Disagree2

Very funny IF Celtic and Rangers came to the prem it would just show how rubbish the spl is and they would at best only be able to get mid table finishes

Not actually a rumour but I think instead of bringing in alan hutton , we should buy christian ribeiro from bristol city or rovers. Good, young and has limied international experience plus he's british!

Great to see that Alex has now acknowledged that the current squad is to thin to allow even the fringe players to leave in this transfer window. Obviously he is at odds with all those people posting comments claiming that we don't need to sign anyone ! Let's hope we see a few more signings, whether loan, free or permanent to beef up the squad. After all, for 80 minutes last night we didn't look like a team some 90 places above Hereford in the league structure.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Good riddance to boring, negative crap.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2011 09:45:43
Who else believes Makoun is better than Petrov as I for one believe Petrov hasn't got long left at the top flight with him begining to be a yard off the pace and given another season he'll be 2 yards off the pace and Makoun has a better eye for a pass and wants to stay at the club when we could loan out other players Heskey, Beye, Ceullar (once fit). as centre midfield seems to be where we need someone to allow either Delph or Bannan being the creative spark

Believable4 Unbelievable6

Makoun probally deserves a better chance than he's had. But on performances so far he's no where near petrov. He's neat and tidy but he's niether attacking or defensive, so what does he do? petrov and delph everytime. Unless we get scott parker.

Agree7 Disagree1

22 Aug 2011 18:34:09
we don't need any signings with the squad being more than capable of a top ten finish, although a quality Ca Mid is needed barry bannan can emulate like what cesc did at arsenal before he was greedy. No signings unless good ones eck...

Villa's squad for Hereford (just opinion)

=================Guzan=====================

Baker========Collins======Clark============Lichaj

=============Makoun===Bannan================

Albrighton=============================N'zogbia
===========Ireland===========================
====================Bent===================

I Reckon Big Eck will rest Given as his groin was playing up on Saturday needing Collins to take goal kicks, Young injured, Heskey injured and Gabby injured and i see a few first teamers being rested hopefully Ireland and Makoun have a good run

Believable2 Unbelievable4

3 people disagreed with this team yet exept for Herd instead of Baker and Dunne instead of Collins it was right And Ireland is starting to shows his skills which made his name just hope he shakes off the match rust to get him on the score sheet

Mrs finance you forgot to mention that we earnt 3mill from take that renting villa park in june for their concert. So you can stop swinging your handbag now

Believable5 Unbelievable4

Wow 3million, we will be able to buy Rooney, Ronaldo, Nasri, Villa.... and have change left over Realism is what is needed from our fans. Just support the club and yeah it would be good if we got X amount of new signings and spent loads but this is not going to happen. I bet most of the people moaning we are not getting new players in are not even season ticket holders and don't buy any of the shirts to fund the club I'd rather an EPL Villa than a has been championship club like Leeds, Portsmouth, Forest.....

Aston Villa could sign FC Sion striker Giovanni Sio. French ace. So far they are leading the chase

Believable0 Unbelievable2

18 Aug 2011 10:49:35
The reason no activity is happening is because the banks have stopped lending to Prem clubs and are asking for any money back, when a club purchases a player they tend to borrow the money from the bank with a view to paying it off at a later date. A lot of the clubs have been restricted, not just Aston Villa

Believable2 Unbelievable4

It is possible, in fact probable, that the banks are restricting lending but the numbers don't stack up in Villa's case. Sold Young for £16.5m, Downing for £20m and spent £13m on N'Zogbia and Given. even if we had to pay some of the Bent transfer that would still leave a surplus. Is it not also true that Liverpool and Sunderland, and even the baggies, have "splashed the cash" which seems to discredit the restrictive banks argument Villa is a great club with a fantastic history and fanbase, season ticket sales of 20,000 plus prove that. If no one is spending that would indicate that this is a buyer's market and there to be exploited. Surely now is a great time to sign the two/three players we need to ensure we are competitive and vying for a european spot in 2012.

Agree0 Disagree4

Just because we have sold at those prices does not mean we get the full cash amount upfront. Most clubs pay up to half now and will pay the rest over a period of time or the following season - hence why they try to get the banks to fund them in a loan. But looking at it another way Young 16.5 + Downing 20 = 36.5mil - N'Zog + Given = 13m both on 5year deals 60k week for N'Zog + at least 35k for Given = 24.7m Add this to 13m = 37.7Mill = Money all gone

Agree4 Disagree4

If you are going to start factoring in the wages that N'Zogbia & Given will be paid over the next 5 years then let's have some consistency and calculate the savings in wages we have made with the departure of Young, Downing, Reo-Coker, Carew and the many others who have left since the end of last season, plus the £10m in season ticket sales/corporate suites etc., Whichever way you look at it, we have generated far more income from our sales than we have spent on new signings, whether deferred on not

Agree2 Disagree2

Even with those savings in players wages gone, we still have to pay the current staff wages - not including any back room, ground staff etc.. say average wage is 15k a week (obviously not) squad of 20 (again obviously more) 15000x20= 300000. Over the year = 15.6mil - there is your 10mil in season tickets sales and savings in players going. Where is this extra money to buy more players coming from then? Unfortunately our owner is a multi millionaire (in £ pounds) and not a multi billionaire who is able to waste his cash.

Agree4 Disagree2

Lets be honest. Randy Lerner has had enough and though i agree that your financial conversation has valid points within it, it misses the point that seems obvious to me and that is that he has lost all interest in moving the club forward. In all honesty i reckon hes getting ready to sell up or he just wants to run it as a business ready to receive an extra nice retirement income (not that he needs it). He has done good things for the club and there is no doubt he has invested a lot of cash but to be honest none of that seems to be happening this year. I mean yeah nzogbia and given are in and they are decent signings but its there for every1 to see that we are lacklustre at the moment and we need to strengthen. Problem with that is when you arent an arab billionaire and you are running the club as a business you cannot please every fan who wants new players. But like you all say we have earned a lot of income (with regards to a fall in wages and the big money transfers) and this does not seemed as if its going to be reinvested. Hence the fact that Randy has lost the passion that he once has and we as villa fans are just going to have to deal with it. No point blaming the manager in this situation and to be honest i admire him for taking the job knowing what an uphill struggle its going to be to keep villa in this league. I know i seem pessimistic but to be honest i think more realistic. I would love to see villa go on sign these players that people are posting rumours about but the fact is unless we get a new owner OR he starts to see that we are a club worth fighting for again, then these season could be a very rocky road with no light at the end.

Agree3 Disagree2

I went to Craven Cottage yesterday to see Villa vs Fulham , defence & Given seemed pretty solid.

N'Zogbia did not convince me .. can we get a refund please

Believable1 Unbelievable5

Oh yeah and buy Subbuteo's S.w.p or David ' I'm so talented nobody wants me' Bentley... give him a chance to shine as he actually has the skill to do just that.

Agree7 Disagree1

Give him a chance N'Zogbia has had no real pre season so it'll take him a few games to get match fit .his best is yet to come

Agree3 Disagree0

Thought CNZ performed pretty well considering his lack of pre season training and the limited training with his new team mates. Yes we could, and should, have done better but this match demonstrates that we need to sign a couple more quality players and that we can't simply rely on DB and CNZ. Hope the rumours are true about us looking to sign (on loan) a decent attacking midfielder. We need this plus a striker to give support to DB and variety and a CB to add competition at the back. RD & JC did well against Fulham, the likes of Aguero and Rooney may pose a different threat.

Simply put our squad is not good enough. it wasnt good enough last season and we have sold our two best players since then and released countless others. Bringing in two as replacements is just not good enough and hoping that players overlooked last season perform and untried youngsters deliver is frankly ridiculous. Yes we finished 9th last season in the end but could have been mathmatically been relegated right up the the final couple of games. We need improvement across the team and cannot understand what is happening at Villa Park at the moment. mcleish is going to have to perform miracles in order not to have the Holte end on his back from the start and then what? sack him when you begin to panic Mr Lerner? Its all well and good having a state of the Art training facility, award winning playing surface and earmarked ground improvements and capacity increase...but what good is that if You cannot attract players to come to the club and we are playing in the Championship in front of a half empty stadium? For the first time in many years I am not looking forward to the new season yet I have still spent money I don't really have and will travel hundreds of miles across the UK watching the team play badly and have countless arguements with my girlfriend as I am wasting money or sulking because Aston Villa Football Club is in my blood and always will be..If you have lost too much money or interest Mr Lerner please sell us to someone who understands the passion felt by fans of our club. Events off the pitch and performances on it over the past 18 months have been nothing less than embarassing and the lack of transfers in this summer shows the club is going backwards. Its going to be another long season

Villa will not, yes WILL NOT be making anymore signings Alec McLeish has said in a statement on skysports news they don't have any money to spend The rest of the profit from Young and Downing sales are to go back to pay Bent transfer in January and wages. If they want to buy now they will have to sell again

We got 24million for milner and didn't spend until bent. so we should still have a good 20million left at least

Believable5 Unbelievable1

Not to burst your bubble mate we got 16m plus Ireland for Milner and then Bent cost 18m up front rising to 24m in add ons and 6m on Makoun 38m out on Downing and Young as well as 12 other players released so why are we unable to bring in 2 players although hearing rumors Heskey is being forced out Ceullar going and Beye may have his contract terminated

why are you all so full of s**t, stop spreading s**te around about players. villa wont sign anyone they will have to be faced with relegation before they sign another decent player. the only reason we got Bent is that lerner didnt want us to go down. He wont spend money though cos he wont make it back to get us to the champions league costs too much for him. He wants to sell the club and i hope he does, preferably to a group of glory hunting arabs. My only fear for villa is that McLeish will sink us. He's like curse.

New figures show Villa's debt is at £110m

This figure has shrunk to £86m due to left over money from Young & Downing sales + N'Zogbia & Given purchasing funds.

Villa will not make anymore signings , only young ex youth players will be playing from now on as Villa look to cut their big debts.

How can we be in debt when we are owned by Randy Lerner. Aston Villa may have made a loss of an amount over a period or a financial year but that would be an operating debt not actually owing money to anyone. It would be Lerner being in debt that we would have to be worried about but he still has a presonal wealth of billions of dollars and thats actual wealth not tied up in companies or businesses. If Villa were losing him too much money he would sell and recouperate his losses there. Stop making up debts..I'm assuming you are not an Aston Villa fan? If We need to make signings we will, people like you have been doom and gllom before and we have made more signings and spent more money than most of the other premiership teams. {Ed001's Note - Lerner may own the company, but it can still have debts separate to him.}

How Can Villa be in Debt they have a personal loan from Lerner who if you hadn't forgot is the Owner and currently a Billionaire which was 65m.

Now whether Villa add to the squad who knows Mcleish has said he wants to strenghen the team before the end of the transfer window whether he spends money is yet to be seen i can see Upson, Hitzlsperger and Milner coming in on loan and frees

Cant believe Mcleish is "happy" with the squad, keep losing our best players and not replacing them sufficiently. Given is a great replacement and so is N'Zogbia but Albrighton cant play every match, we only have 2 wingers, what if one gets injured? Ireland isn't the best replacement for Milner and we didn't try to replace Barry. More depth in the squad is needed whether there's a wage bill to manage or not.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Having released or sold 14? players, signed 2, the wage bill shouldn't be a problem. Villa to sign 3 more players before deadline.

alexsander hleb will not be joining aston villa, i know him personally as he joined my fishery syndicate while he was on loan at blues, he told me he doesnt like mcleish and he will more than likely end up playin in eastern europe, his ideal choice would have been to stay at barca. However he will probably join a russian club like his close friend martin jiranek. Hlebs a nice bloke but a rubbish fisherman, don't worry i gave him plenty of stick aswell being a villan myself.

The Derby result shows how poor squad depth is right now...i believe this is a reason why mcleish has now said that he wants to strengthen the following ways in these areas:

Goalkeeper: No change.

Defence: A rb and a cb are important to get, personally i think that hutton and upson will be signed. We won't splash out on an expensive cb, although bassong could be a good option for us. Combined 8 million bid for Hutton and Bassong could be given to spurs.

Midfield: This is the most concerning area, bannan and albrighton do have great potential, but they're not starters just yet. Depending on the formation we will play plans could change. Regardless of the formation though we need a new winger and a central midfielder, one at least. On the wings i reckon it will be bentley or wright phillips, they can be got at quite cheaply. Bentley would be my choice, excellent crosses for bent to latch onto. In the center of midfield i would like to go for barton...but i think arsenal or someone like that is more likely for him. So Hleb on loan or Milner on loan would be good. Hleb especially as he can link the play, collect it from the defense and play it forward.

Strikers: Heskey, Delfounesou, Weiman and Agbonlahor will not get 20 goals between them this season. Heskey and Agbonlahor need to be used more carefully, either to hold up play, or play in behing teams in agbonlahors case. A striker does seem a priority in my opinion. Ideally Rodallega would be the man, but Wigan won't let him leave so soon after N'Zogbia. So another Spurs player, Robbie Keane for about £3,000,000 will be brought in by McLeish, his finishing is top class - he's a player that could get us 15 a season, put that with bent and we've got potential.

Starting Line Up:

Given, Hutton, Collins, Dunne, Warnock, Bentley, Makoun, Hleb, N'Zogbia, Bent, Keane...or without keane stick petrov/delph into central midfield for a 4-5-1 / 4-3-3

Total spending including N'Zogba and Given: 25,000,000

Total Income received: 36,000,000...if a profit of 9 million can't balance the books then nothing can.

What do you guys think?

EJ

Thats all we can manage at the moment, they're better than the rabble that w have right now

we can now expect new faces at villa before the end of the transfer widow as it seems that McLeish has now had chnce to assess the squod and realizes we need more strengh in attack and defence.

When Eck said we needed to strengthen he meant put more senior players in the starting line up for the start of the derby match. Been taken out of context, it's unlikely we will do anymore business. Not impossible just unlikely.

Come on AM let's see some more signings to ensure we aren't left wanting in case of injuries etc

Completely agree with you mate. Terribly poor against derby. I dread to think if the likes of collins, bent, nzogbia get injured. I mean Bannan and albrighton show promise don't get me wrong but the rest of our bench is crap tbh i mean delfouneso , do me a favor, i watched him squander 3 chances at walsall one of which being an open goal. Heskey - well the less said about him the better. Then we got ireland makoun clark herd beye - and the less said about them the better

Habib beye he's really sh*t, 40 grand a week, he's lovin it

How is it possible to lose to derby. I mean come on its pathetic. Yes but we play our reserves i hear you cry. Load of crap tbf. We played bent ireland makoun albrighton also and these are players who are bound to start premier league games. Yes it cant be put on the shoulders of 4 players to get a result but in all fairness we just don't cut it anymore. Bent is a good player but performs indiferently each game. Albrighton shows promise but wont ever replace young and downing. Makoun was useless when we sign him and he still is and ireland just don't look interested. I spy bad times ahead to be honest with you. I mean who will he be able to sign if we are losing our pre season games. We have not got the ability to attract decent players anymore. All this talk about milner on loan, itll never happen. City are in the champions league and for all he may not start in the league he moved to city because of trophies and he will play a bit part in the champions league. Also the other rumours wont happen either for instance samba is wanted by spurs, defoe wouldnt come and we wont pay the fee for him, wright phillips wont happen as he has been promising in pre season, sturridge on loan wont cos he want to fight for his place. All the players we are linked with i could give you a reason why it will never happen and also the main reason is that Mcleish will be getting no money of lerner. How many times has it been said that this is the case so if i was you id get ready for another crap season where we fail to impress or maybe even another relegation fight. By the way im not blaming this on the manager. I mean i was at odds when mcleish was first taken on but like many fans ive learned to live with the fact that our manager aint so great.

Wow what an essay lol. I agree with many of your points fella i really do but to be honest you are being a bit defeatist. I don't reckon we will be fighting off relegation (unless top players get injured then i dread to think whatll happen). I completely agree that no sigings will be made tho as mcleish has always said that there is no money.

Agree3 Disagree2

Mate shut up. Your just a negative fool. Yeah so what no more signings. Its ONE pre season game lost (well two if you count chelsea) and your acting like we are already down. Bore off

Agree1 Disagree3

Are all you idiots deaf? do you watch Sky sports? AM said signings are needed and there is always money. Why are you all so pesimistic about the coming season...IT WAS A FRIENDLY. We beat walsall this season and the two previous pre seasons games against them we lost....it means nothing. If you get this easily disapointed just don't bother...Ive been going to Villa Park since 1976 and have witnessed highs and lows...more lows recently but I will never moan and I will always be optimistic that this is our year. Agree0 Disagree3

Theres optimistic and then there is being naive. To be honest with you sky sports is one big lie factory that drums up stories and only when a transfer is a dead cert to happen it puts it on the breaking news strap. Also i think mcleishs words were taken out of context because he was simply reffering to bringing more experienced players into the line up for the braga game and not signing more players. Also yes it was a friendly but a friendly match is still a match that our bench players (bar darren bent) should have won. Beating walsall means nothing i (by the way we have beat them two years running now), because we put out the team we would to face man united against a lowly league 1 standard side (no disrespect). Also our defence conceded in that game and you only have to look what happened against chelsea to see the problems that we have. Yes by all means my friend be optimistic i admire you for thinking positively, BUT im talking plain fact and if this pre season is anything to go by all im saying is that we will struggle big time next season.

so true, dj Cambell is terry bell. he's what at birmingham and was the worst. Im sure they're just pointless rumours that people are posting here cos they've bought him on football manager and he did well or something. We won't be signing anyone else. it'll be bringing youth through this year

Believable0 Unbelievable2

As much as i agree dj campbell is terrible. I disagree completely with the youth policy he is taking to be honest. I mean in youth terms we havent got that much that looks promising. Yes albrighton is good, bannan is good, clark is ok, lichaj isnt the best and delfouneso is shocking (his pre season performance at walsall will prove that point). i still think we need some better players for the bench. New striker, Creative midfield and a winger at least. Then if cuellar leave we need two defenders. Why we arent in the market for the likes of hitlzsperger, barton , defoe and wright phillips i will never know. all part of Bid ecks "devine" plan. We will struggle this year if im honest just look what chelsea did to us :/

Agree4 Disagree1

Only player that was any good against chelsea was given and i think he is gonna be having to play like that every game this season so we arent relegated. I have every faith in him though he is a great signing

The solution to our problems is in the free agent department, i know there is a wage bill to cut down but release or sell players like Beye who is on 40k a week to solve it. Barton, Upson and Hitzlsperger would be decent signings and trying to get a striker on loan like Sturridge and we would be fine.

If players like Ireland, Warnock, Delfounsou, Delph, Agbonlahor and Albrighton pull their weight I feel Villa could make top 7. After watching the Chelsea game I certainly was impressed with Given's performance - MOTM - no doubt. However I think Villa need a quick CB to play along side Collins, someone like Onouah. I think Villa could either sign him on loan or permanent for 6m as his out of favour at City. Plus his only 24 years old. Also, for 4m I think Alan Hutton is a bargain as he's about 5 years younger than L.Young and IMO better than him. Cambell from Blackpool is a definite bargain as he can score goals in the prem and he'll only cost 1.5m. A great replacement for Bent if he ever gets injured. Finally I think Villa need to sign a very good midfielder - Milner would do a great job on loan. I would probably play him with Delph as he very aggresive and can go forward to. Just my opinion
