I don't normally go around quoting Percy Shelley, but along with tomorrows game, I can't get this out of my head for some reason :

"Rise like LIONS after slumber
In unvanquishable number,
Shake your chains to earth like dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you-
Ye are many - they are few. "

Come on Villa!

Mendax, if the team can emulate your passion we are home and dry. Strange how words can motivate the sole. If only more would lift rather than carp about the team I am sure that the positive side would be seen. Leading morning paper staes that PL is a great motivator of players and highly respected and that Scrooge confirms that PL is following the parameters set. Its not to late, hopefully next season will see us rise as the Lion.

I'm guilty of a fair bit of carping myself mate but tomorrow just isn't the day for it (thought I best admit that as I am sure someone might point it out)
Surely we must win this?
If the players can't get up for this game, they probably can't get up for any game

I've been a Villa fan since 1950 when at the age of 4 my father took me to my first game so I think I speak as someone who has seen it all-the good, the bad and the downright diabolical but this current side is one of the worst I have ever seen. Having said that, if the players can't motivate themselves to take 3 points from this match then I give up and that is me trying VERY hard to be positive and look on the brightest possible side.

With reference to all the posters calling for PL's head, I post the following from a well known football pundit.
"Yes, Villa have struggled under Paul Lambert but he is not at a club where the owner is chucking money at the team. He has dealt with the situation without moaning.
If the owner is happy just surviving in the prem. then Lambert is likely to just about achieve that. "
We do not know if PL can cut it with extra money for "star" players, but he does deserve the chance.
Scrooge is the problem without any doubt.
The jury has to be out on PL until he gets a fair chance.
Support the team to the bitter end tomorrow and don't jump up and scream for heads to roll, the show is not over till the last whistle against the Spuds.

I can see where you are coming from Oldvillain. But, I do have an issue.
Let's assume we do manage to stay up, that the club is sold to people with deeper pockets than Lerner and Lambert is given significant funds to spend.
He has no history of spending signicant amounts of money on star players and I
don't want Villa to be used as some kind of experiment to prove whether he is capable of doing it or not
I suspect any new owner would be thinking the same

Everybody starts somewhere. I am certain that most of us have had to climb from a lowly base. Give PL the chance and he will swim, or perhaps sink and we end up with another manager. Time will tell!

Agree0 Disagree0

The problem is mate, if he doesn't swim we are down by however many
£ millions
Villa is too big a club to be used as a training ground for managers
Lambert needs to learn to swim elsewhere.
We need a manager with a proven track record and some standing in the game if we are to start spending big again.

Agree . .

Lambert deserves a chance with spending money, don't forget as a player he's won championships, champions league & umpteen cups.
Give him time & money!
