If what we are hearing is true and Smith gets 100mill to spend i would go for. Stones, Sarr, Eze and Tammy if we can get them all for £100mill would be great business.

It might sound bad but even though Smith did a great job in getting us to the prem i think the owners should have got a proven manager at this level we have been p***ing the wind all season. In my opinion this is worse then when we went down 3 seasons ago back then we were on borrowed time but we came up with hope, momentum and good owners but now its just been taken away.

A big blow watford winning tonight but i still believe there is hope i think if we can beat palace and everton we could still have a winner take all against west ham on the last day our goal now has to be to take it to the last day.

Eerrr-hope springs eternal I guess!

2.) 08 Jul 2020 10:03:06
Should be Deanos easiest team talk on Thursday. Win or go down lads its up to you. Slick beat palace and everton? we'd be lucky to beat an egg at the moment.

3.) 08 Jul 2020 15:25:20
Spot on SV, that is just about the size of it mate.

4.) 08 Jul 2020 18:22:03
Villa dave I'm glad we agree on this one.

I think if Smith gets sacked ill put a name out there that not many have mentioned that i would give my right arm for the legend that is Claudio Ranieri always been a fan of his i know he is 68 but this would show the intent we need and he would attract good players to our team. Thoughts?

1.) 05 Jul 2020 23:09:36
no rather have Hoddle.

2.) 06 Jul 2020 00:19:02
I agree with you on Ranieri, but only if we go down.

I don't think we'd attract the players we'd need for the fabled instant promotion, and would need a season at least to structure without using the loan market, which was out downfall after being promoted (priced out the market as it was a must purchase) .

If we stay up and money isn't a stumbling block then I'd personally like to see the likes of Valverde, Kovac, Blanc, Allgeri,

Kovac would be my main choice, someone who has, played at the highest levels for both club and country - links to a lot of academies to help build.

After Kovac it would have to be Valverde with his attacking style of football (he was disappointed with Barcelona letting Louie Barry go aswell)

Think it would be groundhog Day if we went for the likes of Dyche, Big Sam etc.
These names to me say mid-table / relegation battles. Is that really the direction for the club?

3.) 06 Jul 2020 08:07:58
Ads2003, if we got a big name manager and a massive transfer budget, would we give the new man the time required to clear out all the unwanted players currently at the club whilst restructuring the youth system? I'd like to think we would but I very much doubt it.

4.) 06 Jul 2020 09:58:40
Personally I would stick with Smith you do not become a bad manager overnight he has had a tough baptism in the premiership and I think he will have learned from the experience. However if they do get rid of him then I think whoever comes in needs to be given a transfer budget and he should be allowed to identify his targets and the club then need to get them (where possible) and not be in a situation where the club foist players on the manager which seems to have been the scenario with Smith unless that changes then no big name manager worth there salt would touch us and rightly so in my opinion.

I would be interested in what people think we should do with the 80million we would get for Jack if he goes.

I guess the answer to this depends on whether we are in the prem or the Championship. If in the prem I would look to sign a combination from Mitrovic, Tuanzebe, Benrahma, Harry Wilson, Batshuayi, Watkins. I would even try to get Albrighton back the best crosser of a ball in the prem in my opinion. If we are in the Championship then I would look to the likes of Lolley, Worrall, Grant, Dack, Eze.

2.) 30 Jun 2020 22:10:29
Depends on which league we are in I guess, if in the Premiership and can retain the rest of the squad I'd go for a RB, CB, MF, LW, RW, ST.

JonJoe Kenny
Axel Tuanzebe
Emiliano Buendía
Dwight McNeil
Daniel James (Loan)
Alfredo Morelos

Heaton

Kenny, Tuanzebe, Mings, Targett

McGinn, Luiz

James, Buendía, McNeill

Morelos.

3.) 30 Jun 2020 22:29:42
Not all of the above for 80M BTW :-)

4.) 01 Jul 2020 00:21:13
There is no chance of McNeil or Daniel James coming to us.

5.) 01 Jul 2020 11:39:08
Cool - Anything to add to the conversation beyond that?

6.) 01 Jul 2020 14:54:28
I don't get why you say they wouldn't come we are Aston Villa. Terry come didn't he we are massive.

7.) 01 Jul 2020 14:53:35
Yes, we will not get £80m for Grealish.

8.) 01 Jul 2020 15:16:20
McNeil will sign for either Spurs or Arsenal and Daniel James will not be swapping Man Utd where he is playing week in week out to drop down to the Championship.

9.) 01 Jul 2020 15:32:02
Team was based on us staying in the Premiership RH. Also, James has been replaced by Greenwood in the United 11 and they are looking at Sancho, he will be available for a loan if that happens. Don't agree that we could not tempt the players on that list but do agree that we will be in the Championship if something doesn't change. Then it's an entirely different set of players sadly!

10.) 01 Jul 2020 15:35:59
Its all well and good saying we should go for this player and that player etc but other than Grealish and McGinn, we're going to struggle to offload the likes of Mings, Heaton, Luiz as we are paying them good money which another club won't due to their performances this season.

11.) 01 Jul 2020 15:45:50
I agree that we might have difficult offloading the likes of El ghazi, Engels, Taylor and some of the other fringe players but we will have no trouble when it comes to Mings unfortunately.

12.) 01 Jul 2020 16:21:54
Mings has been awful since winning his England cap. Seems that he's given up trying to prove himself.

13.) 01 Jul 2020 17:12:54
I actually think the fact clubs won't have as much money to spend coupled with a narrow window to sign players could mean we keep a lot of the squad together! Mings will have plenty of suiters, as will McGinn, but will these clubs pay our valuation - Surely we would demand 25-30M each regardless of division?

14.) 01 Jul 2020 19:00:52
That's the point. We can demand all we want but if the buying club ain't got the money, the players will stay with us. Agreed that if the squad stay together we'll be strong enough to compete in the Championship (if we go down) but it will ensure our finances suffer.

15.) 02 Jul 2020 11:35:03
Whilst in principle I agree that clubs may not pay our asking price are we likely to have to reduce our asking price to comply with FFP which to be honest I am not fully au faithful with so perhaps somebody can clarify for me.

{Ed002's Note - Aston Villa has another year to sort out their finances now - they should take that opportunity. The issue of the sale of Villa Park may yet cause further problems.}

Good options my only issue with them is benrahma, for me, is to much of a gamble. So is Eze but i think we could get him for 10/ 15mill less then Benrahma.
