Something really has to be done about the standard of refereeing in this country after that excuse for a performance by Attwell tonight. I honestly have seen far better displays by referees in Ladsandads matches than that moron tonight. Not only did he book McGinn for winning the ball but failed to see the obvious foul on McGinn by Chalobah which was a standout amongst a catalogue of pathetically biased decisions. He managed to completely spoil a decent game with his bias toward the home team.

The man is a joke, Dougie was fouled 4 time, without being given one foul . Attwell should be kicked out, that was one of the worst displays Iv seen . How many Villa players where booked, because they where purely frustrated by him .

Dave 4 of ours and the only reason alonso got booked for them was cause Bailey took the piss out of him in the corner. Chalaboh pulled Ollie 4 times and never got booked.

It was diabolical reffing he really took the pi$$, he booked Ramsey after 6 mins for a tug, fair enough it was probably warranted but it should be the same rules for both teams, he was that biased tonight you have to wonder was he getting an envelope after the game from Roman.

Like a lot of people on here I would like to pass on congrats to Dougie on his gold medal and also like other posters would now say his best position is box to box mid. With this in mind we need a Def mid more than any other position play him alongside Dougie and push Ginny forward in a 4231 formation playing Ollie and Ings according to fitness. One thing I am grateful for is that we are no longer interested in the overrated Cantwell.

I don’t think the Athletic are that reliable a transfer source to be honest, and Football Insider are still reporting that we will sign Cantwell as Jack’s replacement although in fairness they are not that reliable either, so I guess the answer is we won’t know who until they are signed sealed and delivered but like you I sincerely hope it isn’t Cantwell.

Does anyone know about this Anguissa from Fulham he is linked with us on the rumours site and was left out of the team against Middlesbrough today. I don't know much about him and would like to hear anyone's thoughts.

He seems to be rated by those who have seen plenty of him, probably not as good as bissoma but harder to rate him properly when he was in such a struggling team.

I am sorry if this upsets anyone but I just don't buy into the hype surrounding Todd Cantwell. In my opinion he is massively overrated and I am sure that there must be better value for a player in his position just as there are players who have a better end product. I have said before that if you are going to spend the type of money that Norwich would be asking then go and get Mikkel Damsgaard instead.

Based on Purslows comments I don't see us dipping into the Market in forward areas - Think we will go big on a Midfielder, don't know why but I've a sneaky feeling we may go for Bissoma (although Brighton probably would not sell after Ben White transfer) . We have Watkins, Ings, Wesley, Buendia, Bailey, Traore, El Ghazi. I think we are pretty set for now. I can see us playing similar style to Liverpool this season, Ings = Firmino, Watkins = Mane, Bailey = Salah.

I think we should remain open minded regarding Cantwell. Remember for a period we were the only ones who appreciated how good Grealish was/ is while most other fan bases and pundits ridiculed and doubted him.
He could be a far better player than we appreciate and in a better side than Norwich could potentially be top draw.

Excellent point Dana, fully agree - I don't see us going for Cantwell after Purslows comments but that's an very strong point, Villa fans were saying for years how good Grealish was, only now the world has realised. I know some Norwich fans rate Cantwell very highly, the reality is he isn't on Jacks level, not many are, but I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at him. Young, clearly talented, and yes his numbers weren't off the charts in the championship but neither were Jack's and we all know how good he is.

With regards to incoming signings I would like us to spend big on a defensive midfielder my preference has always been like BK Bissouma however I too think it’s unlikely Brighton will sell, if we can’t get him I also like the look of Berge at Sheffield Utd but I think he might end up at Arsenal if rumours are to be believed however as a left field choice how about Ndidi at Leicester? Only 24 plenty of Premiership experience, good at breaking play up, reads the game well and distribution isn’t that bad either. It would probably take a big bid but if Leicester are prepared to listen to offers for Maddison surely they will listen to offers for Ndidi.

I think our transfer window in terms of incomings has been outstanding so far. We must continue along this path and if we do I can see us challenging for Europe this season. One point I will raise is that Todd Cantwell in my view is overrated at the price that Norwich seem to want and a lot better option exists in Mikkel Damsgaard, if you need to spend the type of money we are talking about spend it on Damsgaard rather than Cantwell.

It was an awful weekend for Sky, first their darlings of the Premier League lose at home after them making it all about Ronaldo who I presume has now been released from Kortney Hause's pocket and then the golden goose Antony Joshua fails to turn up for a title defence and is beaten up by a light heavyweight. That really has got to sting.

I agree with your points and what does seem obvious to us is often overlooked as it does not fall in line with the staff's thinking. My point is that we ALL want the best for AVFC and if some points raised differ to the line of thinking elsewhere it does not mean that our thoughts are wrong.
