Is it just me, or isn’t wellbeck on a free a no brainer?

I’m surprised he’s not been snapped up already. we should definitely go in for him. can cover centre forward or left wing.

Perhaps being put off by, his record of injuries. He hasn't played that often, in the last couple of seasons . I agree if fit he’s one of the best finishers about and for free, he’s worth a shout .

If there’s a case for Wellbeck, there’s a case for Sturrdge, and 100% a case for getting Cahill, we definitely need a bit of experience in the squad with all the younger players we’ve been linked with. It seems to me a lot off the players that we on here are putting forward are looking at their resale value, we’re Premier League now, act like we want it to stay that way

Wages is the issue. If you're outlaying several million a season you are going to want something in return other than a hefty medical bill and I'm guessing their agents aren't too keen on a pay as you play deal.

Wages and injuries the big thing with Sturridge and Welbeck, both brilliant players when fully fit but over and extended period they’ve shown they can’t stay fit, Cahills biggest problem is wages and age, if we haven’t signed a first team right footed centre half come a week before spurs, I reckon they’ll go for him.

My maths on Cahill would be he’s 33, free transfer, £100K per week? Jedinak was 33, cost around £3.5M, wages of at least £50K for 3 years and probs started 50 games tops, Jedinak cost around £10M all told in the Championship, Cahill be roughly the same in the Premier for 2 years where there’s bigger money to be spent, Jedinak had no resale value and served a purpose, Cahill would do the same for a couple of seasons and no resale value. That’s where I’d come from on free transfers

Did sturridge and wellbeck set the premier alight, no! Did they show class at times yes! Could you trust them to play a full season definitely no! Is it worth the risk to pay them a fortune for z risky return definitely no! . So I am confident Deano will leave well alone.

Let’s not be ignorant now, Sturridge scored 21 in 29 at one stage in his career, so to say he didn’t light the league up that year is madness.

As usual cavfc is always right, none of the managers have shown faith in either wellbeck or sturridge, let's pay them 100k a week to join McCormack.

Don’t get upset scotcaffu, it’s a fact that he scored 21 in 29 and Rodgers showed a lot of faith in him that season. If you think that’s not setting the league a light then that’s your opinion, if that’s the case thought considering our position as newly promoted side I’d like to know what you expect from our strikers this year?

As I said I wouldn’t sign either due to injures age and wages, doesn’t mean I’m going to be ignorant to the fact they are both very good players.

Let’s not forget too that even though Wesley looks the part, he might be a monumental flop, it’s 50/ 50. Kodjia might catch fire in the Prem, he might not. Hogan given the service could be lethal. Out of Sturridge and Wellbeck, I’d see Sturridge as an upgrade on what we’ve got, Wellbeck as someone who’ll do a job, if they’re both managed well with fitness and coaching, would be an asset to us, and they would only cost use wages/ signing on fee. IMO, Cahill and Sturridge are the 2 best free transfers out there that any team outside of the top 6 should be busting a nut to get. Agreed it would be great to sign up and coming hungry players exclusively, but it’s not the 1 and only way to do things. On a side note, we’re all desperate to sign Mings and it looks like it’ll cost close to £20M, without doing checking, he’s probs spent more or roughly the same amount of time out injured as Wellbeck/ Sturridge over the past few seasons. If signed, Mings will become a B6 legend I’m sure, some of the free transfers out there could do the same
