It looks like Gerrard has taken another public pop at Mings.
Professionalism means keeping that stuff behind closed doors. Mings has done nothing publicly other than congratulate Mcginn.
When Smith gave it to Jack he said Jack had the armband but he wanted leaders all over the pitch.
Gerrard on the other hand can't help but belittle one of our strongest leaders. If you don't like him, sell him, simple.

What’s he said?

That he was always an interim captain, there were 'reasons' he took it off him and he's been quiet since. Has also hinted that there's a good chance he's no longer a regular starter.
He hasn't let the whole cat out of the bag but I've rarely seen a manager say anything about the previous captain when they've made a change.
His Buendia comments also suggest that he'll remain as a sub 90% of the time which could become a problem if Coutinho doesn't start delivering consistently.

RK, the interview i saw with Gerrard regarding Mings, was quite ok, he thought the decision would benefit everyone. If he his making the comments you refer to he needs to be very careful, if results don't go his way, fans generally are not that forgiving, he needs to choose his words wisely or they might come back to bite him.

Mmm just read the article, in fairness re the not being a regular starter he has also said even though he’s captain McGinn isn’t a guaranteed starter either but I do agree the timing of this is a little strange. The only thing I can think of is Gerrard believes Mings is the type who needs a kick up the a*** to get the best out of him but it’s a risk.

Like I said, didn't fully lay into him but needs to learn to be more diplomatic and keep it to private meetings at Bodymoor.
Mourinho has proven that these types of public statements can easily turn into unrest throughout the squad.
Taking shots publicly at big personality players can lead to other players going into their shells to avoid criticism.
At the top level players need that element of risk to try gain an advantage, 11 players holding back and taking the safe option all the time will not result in a winning formula.
