Anyone else think that Targett will bail out now he is no longer favourite to start at LB? He played every match last season and I can't see him wanting to stay on as a bench-warmer ?

MD, i'm sure Gerrard will have spoken to Matt and explained that he won't be a regular starter, he hasn't got the attacking style required. He has been a good purchase however, me included have seen his glaring limitations. If Gerrard had not addressed his weakness many on here would, not before too long, be questioning his coaching nouse. I hope Matt moves on for his own career sake, if he stays he will be good cover.

Just read Hause has signed a new three year deal, whilst he is good cb cover and he has generally been reliable backup for Mings and Konsa, it lacks ambition on his part, happy to be a bit part player. It does however give us extra lb cover if Targett moves on.

For me Targett almost looks like he doesn't believe in himself. I think he will be happy as cover as it's less pressure. I think if we get a good offer and he wants to go we will let him. We also have Ashley Young and I'm sure we have been linked with other young left backs recently so may go in for one of those in the summer if we need to.

I'd be surprised if we let him go, everyone thought we were light in that position so we bought a second LB, now we have 2 good options and people are talking about selling 1 of them, I wouldn't sell him for less than 20 grand, preferably I wouldn't sell him at all, digne still has to prove himself at Villa.

I wonder whether we have a chance to make a few quid here, Targett is apparently interesting Newcastle if we could get £20 to £25 million for him, pick up the lad Hickey from Bologna for £15 million we have cover at left back and wide left as he can play both positions he is younger and from what I have seen of him on the TV he looks quite a prospect.

Loti, if we could get £25mill for matt i would grab it without hesitation, i agree about the Bologna kid.
