Wes is obviously extremely stupid, not just the sending off incident, but the fact he has almost certainly played himself out of contention to feature this season. His performance at Walsall was dire, my grandson said he is like a bull in a china shop and that's exactly what it looked like, cheered on by the fans he charged about without any resemblance of a footballer. We should write of our significant losses and take the first 5million offer before the season starts. It will mean that Davis will almost certainly stay now and not be loaned out as rumoured, which in my opinion is good. Incidentally Davis looked sharp at Walsall unlike the raging bull (in a china shop) . Sooner he goes the better.

Scotty, to be honest I have never really been a fan of Wesley.
I have always wished him well, and hoped for some inspiration, and yes he is big and strong, but that is where it ends for me.
He lacks awareness, technical ability and instinct, by the way, that seemed evident to me before his injury, so nothing has changed.
So for me we need to look for another alternative, his type of player are used within a different game plan to the one we use.
To be fair to him I think its a real shame.

Dave, absolutely bang on, many, me included willed him to succeed, unfortunately as you allude to, he just hasn't got it. He should be moved on and hopefully for him he finds a level where he can compete.

Brazilian as well Scotty, yet posses no attributes associated with the brilliant South Americans.
Not sure how much we would we get for him mate.

Dave, do you remember the old days when three gold fish and a balloon was the currency, some might think that's all he's worth.

Remember it very well Scotty 😂🤣 the wife and I were talking about it Thursday, we went to Charmouth not far from where we live, and we were cracking up about the Rag and Bone man doing just that.
A Gold fish or a balloon for you junk. 😂🤣.

Guys I haven’t seen today’s game so I can’t comment other than to say to get sent off in a pre season friendly having not been on the pitch for too long is incredibly stupid, however in fairness to Wesley has he really had an opportunity to show his worth? He was starting to come into a bit of form when he got crocked and has had no game time as such since, if you wrote every player off after an indifferent first season then Matt Targett would be playing his football elsewhere but look at him now. Lest face it Wesley isn’t going to be our regular no 9 this season but I think the original plan to have him as back up, with Davis sent on loan to get some game time is sound, after all if anything happens to Watkins or Wesley we have Barry and Young as fallback options or we could include a call back clause in Davis loan deal. Let’s not write Wesley off just yet, he offers something a little different to what we have now which of itself can’t be a bad thing.

Probably the frustrations of the last 12-18 months coming to the surface. It’s still very early days since he got over that awful injury and he’s probably desperate to make up for it. I agree John he needs time to get into the groove of playing competitive football again, so come on guys give the bloke a chance. Targett and Luiz are good examples of players who took a lot more first team matches than Wesley has played up to now, to settle in. They didn’t have to get over an horrendous injury either.

Guys, understand your reluctance and on the face of it makes sense, however i'm with Dave. I have watched wes three times post injury and most games pre injury and being brutal i haven't seen any difference whatsoever. He definitely won't ever figure as a starter. Big clumsy centre forwards are a thing of the past. If Davis stays he will be the bench warming impact striker at the end of games, so there will be no place for Wes, i think it will be in everyone's interest for him to move on, probably back to Europe.
Ps Dave, Charmouth and Lyme Regis were my two favourite places growing up.

Spot on with that Scotty, I see no point keeping someone who will not figure for us on a regular basis, have some thought for the man, and let him go somewhere where he can play some football.
I would like to see some line ups from Wesley supporters, where they think he would fit in and why, and who they would sacrifice for that pleasure.

Scotty Charmouth and Lyme only only 45 mins away mate, my wife loves Charmouth, I reckon she is planning kicking me of the cliff 😂🤣.

Very dodgy on a windy day up there Dave, she would get away with it if they found you in Lyme Bay😂😂.

Dave, for me i am assuming by the time the season starts we will have two out and out wingers available that being the case if we are chasing a game I would use him in a target man type of role. At times last season teams sussed out the 4 2 3 1 we were playing and we had no plan B. Wesley is a big bustling type of forward who given his size can and should bully centre halves he has played for Brazil so he can’t be that bad. If we don’t use him as back up then who? no one seems to rate Davis although personally I do think there is a player in there waiting to emerge, I don’t think Abraham is going to come to sit on the bench, and whilst I like the look of Barry and Young I am not sure I would want to rely on them as the only striking back up for the whole season particularly if we are pushing for Europe.

12.) 25 Jul 2021
25 Jul 2021 14:43:40
John, definitely an option, however not for me though and I do agree there is a player in Davis and he would be my option at the end of a game if it needs chasing.

13.) 25 Jul 2021
25 Jul 2021 14:58:44
Yes John, you have said how we would play him, and the reason we would play him, but at the expense of who.
The Brazil thing is no indication for me mate, they have 9 outfield players who could make Bruce Forsyth look good.

14.) 25 Jul 2021
25 Jul 2021 15:03:11
No time for sentiment, loan him out, hope he scores 10+ goals wherever he”s at, hope to get half the fee or more than what we paid for him or have a recall at next transfer window if he catches fire so we can either have him back in the squad, or so we can sell him closer to what we paid for him or even for a profit, being Brazilian adds value if they’re in form. I’d be happy with Davis as a back up option as he offers something different to Ollie, and maybe Alvarez for the same reason

UTV.

Good alternative option 72.

16.) 25 Jul 2021
25 Jul 2021 20:49:43
Dave, the answer to where I would play Wes would depend on the in game situation I was faced with, but as an example, on more that one occasion last season Traore was struggling not only to hold on to the ball but to track back to support the back four, in those cases I might be tempted to move Watkins out wide right where his energy could help not only offensively but defensively and then play Wes through the middle.

17.) 25 Jul 2021
25 Jul 2021 22:03:45
John I applaud you for your loyalty, and I would never want to try and change your mind, but for me we have no place for him.
I remember him chasing a player before his injury, and the crowd went wild, why that is the normal thing to do.
Sorry John, he would need to improve tenfold fold for me, Davis is a far better player.

18.) 25 Jul 2021
25 Jul 2021 22:21:41
Dave it’s all about opinions when all is said and done but to be fair I am probably being unduly influenced by the fact that at the end of last year if I had had my way I would have got shut of Targett as I thought he was rubbish however how wrong would that have been. 😁.

19.) 25 Jul 2021
25 Jul 2021 22:41:05
Sensible debate guys and of course there are many instances of the Targetts, many of us remember angel, unfortunately Wes in my opinion is a basket case, i don't wish him anything but goodwill, however he will never figure regularly, Watkins and players of his ilk are the strikers of the modern game. Kane is arguably the best centre forward around and he is not an out to out centre forward, man city are happy to play without a number 9 because that role has dramatically changed. We all want our players and signings to work, unfortunately sometime it doesn't work and you have to accept it and cut your losses and move on.

If the rumours are to be believed then despite Saturday’s fiasco Wesley will stay to compete with Ollie and Davis will be loaned out.

If rumours are correct John, Smith will be making a big mistake and within a month will rue his decision, i am absolutely convinced that it won't work out for him or the Villa.
