The Grealish saga rumbles on and on. I read a number of interesting articles this morning and whilst some are probably from less reliable sources than others it seems we are prepared to double Jack's current salary which i think would mean he would be on a whopping £270k a week! . The mood music from the articles would suggest he wants to go to City to be coached by Pep and to be competing at the highest level, but he won't force a move because of his attachment to Villa. I wonder though whether given the rumours around the fact that we are in negotiations with Leverkusen for Bailey near a deal with Norwich over Cantwell and supposedly putting a £13.5 million bid in for Alvarez over the weekend that we are getting most of our business done prior to Jack's departure to save us being screwed over by other clubs once the deal is done. Whilst ideally I would want Jack to stay if he wants to go then I don't think the club should stand in his way given the loyalty and service he has given and whatever happens I think we will continue to flourish under the current owners, investing the money from any transfer can only strengthen the overall squad and given the talented youngsters we have coming through the future looks pretty rosy to me and it's been a while since we could say that.

Just out of curiosity, if your saying yourself that the articles are most likely unreliable, why are you reading into it?

John, the reality is nobody bar Jack, his agent and some key figures at the club know what is going to happen - No point overthinking it, I'm like all Villa fans, I want this closed out (on way or another) soon. For me, we are clearly in the market for another forward player to play with Grealish and Buendia, whether that is McNeill, Baily or Cantwell nobody knows but these links, for me, do not mean Jack is moving to City. Now if we see a 50M+ bid for a left winger on top of this, then yes we can assume the club is teeing up his replacement. Until then I'm still very much in the Grealish Stays camp, possibly niave, but I just can't see City signing Kane and Grealish as a striker has to be a priority for them this summer.

John, there is too much noise in the media (however reliable some of the stories are) for there to be nothing in Jacks potential departure. I would love Jack to stay however i believe he will eventually leave before the season starts, hope i'm wrong but its only fair to let him go if that's his wish.

Chris, whilst some are from less reliable sources that doesn’t mean all, and when you reflect on the other rumours relating to our supposed targets then when you put it all together it paints a possible scenario, I didn’t say it was right but it is interesting that just as the Jack rumours seem to be gathering pace so do the rumours linking us to a plethora of players.

Various media reports today suggest Levy has agreed to let Kane go to Citeh for £160m with wages of £400k a week. Do you think Pep would sign Jack as well? I assume the deal would not be dissimilar, but I still wrangle with the fact that he would be behind De Bruyne and Foden for the #10 shirt and wouldn't have the captaincy - presume he'd be behind both Fernandinho, De Bruyne and Kane on that one.

100% agree with that Menace - If the Kane rumour is true, and the figure is 160M then that for me rules out a move for Grealish as Villa would demand an astronomical figure as well.

I think the £160 million figure includes Kane’s salary which would obviously be spread over the length of his contract and so I agree that unless City offload some players they are unlikely to be able to spend that big again this window, but given Sterling is unsettled and supposedly interesting Real Madrid, Gabriel Jesus is interesting clubs in Italy, Laporte and Bernardo Silva apparently want assurances re the amount of game time they will get this season it would only take City to sell two or three of the above and they would have more that sufficient funds to secure Jack’s services in addition to Kane’s.

Time will tell, I wouldn’t stress over it however, you’d have thought we’d be used to this by now, he’s been sold to a top 4 team the previous three summers according to the same papers and sources your seeing these reports from now.

It's not quite that simple though John, City can't simply sell players of that calibre at the drop of a hat, especially in this market. If they are relying on selling 2 of Sterling, Jesus or Silva to fund Grealish then I'm even more confident he stays.

Hope your right BK as I would like Jack to stay particularly if we add a couple of more creative players to the squad, but that said I don’t think it’s the end of the world if he goes either.

I hope I'm right to John :-) I just think Kane is the priority for City and they may have to go BIG to get him. And by the way, Villa won't roll over for a belly rub if City coming calling either, our owners don't mess about. I'm optimistic Grealish will sign a new contract and we can all look forward to next season, fully agree though John, if that doesn't happen and he leaves Villa will survive!

Im not reading into anything until it’s announced that villa accepted an offer for him, just tabloids looking to sell papers and clicks, yes there is interest there but interest only go’s so far without a bid, I think he stays at least another year and if we don’t get Europe he go’s next year. Selling your best players and investing in new players is not a recipe for success look at Southampton and the talent they sold and where are they now.
