Thought I might just add a couple of snippets about the 56/ 57 team.

Nigel Sims. Matinee idol looks, big and quick. Should have been picked for Englanad

Stan Lynn. Hard, fast, big and again totally fearless. Wingers beware. Shin pads essential.
Rocket shot. Took penalties with 100% power. Kelsey of Arsenel got his hands to one pen and ended up in the net.
He ran a sweet shop in Perry Bar in the 60's.
Only later when the press talked about him was he tagged Stan the wham.
Stan the man or Lynny.
My favourite player of all time.

Peter Aldis came from Cadburys team. Nowhere to cup winner. Once scored with a header from about 35yds
.
Stan Crowther Blonde hair 100% player. Man U bought him just after Munich and he became the only player to play for two different teams in the cup in the same year.

Jimmy Dugdale came from the Baggies. Very agile, good in the tackle and quick.

Pat Sayward tall Irish lad great in a tackle and again quick

Les Smith, small, agile. Lasting impression of him was lying in the mud beating his fists into the ground having put the ball across in the semi for someone to score.

Jacky Sewell, again smallish but was the midield general. Pain in the arse to everyone

Billy Myerscough was a busy player that just arrived and nicked the No9 spot for the final.

Johnny Dixon. Tall and an elegant player. Remember him scoring many goals.
My Dad reckoned he was among the top players in England and related a story about Dixon balancing the ball on his head and running through to score. True or false. don't know.

Peter McParland, again fast and fearless. All round a fans player and a players player Good with feet and head. Controversially shoulder charged Ray Wood in the final. Villa had worked out that Wood always threw the ball out and took his time. Apparently the players were told to get him to move the ball quicker.

In later years Wood was said to have admitted that the shoulder charge was fair but because he moved to brace himself the two players met at some pace and he had dropped his head slightly thus incurring the injury.
This argument went on for years but the result was the same.
Man Utd were massive favourites, Villa were there to make up the numbers.
Another tail that went round was that Man U wanted a photo taken before the game with them in clean kit as it would look better when they won.

I still have the Argus and Green Mail from that night.

Probably bored you all but sometimes a look back is fun.

Not boring at all TOV, it’s nice to reminisce about good times after all we haven’t really had much of a sniff at the FA Cup since.

No it`s nice to read Oldvillan, I was 7 at the time, but still remember the day very well.
We also had the very same Argus for years, and for some reason it got lost in transit, when my parents moved home.

Hi Dave,
Thought you might recognise my philosophy on hard quick defenders.
Stay well.
Keep your shin pads on mate.
