Awesome performance defensively again we showed a lot of heart against a difficult opponent but even if vardy was playing i think we would have gotten something from that game man konsa needs a little call from gareth sadgate me thinks, better than gomez maguire and any rb he likes to play in the middle. Every team will be begging cazoo to sponsor them next season.

We’ve gone from being one of the worst defenses in the Prem. to currently the best. There surely aren’t many better central defensive partnerships than Mings and Konsa are there? Konsa in particular is really looking the part and has come on enormously, plays like Rio Ferdinand imo. and even resembles him slightly.
Now I can remember a certain John Terry getting a lot of stick on this site not so long ago, for the apparent ineptitude and disorganization of our defenders. Could it be then that his influence is finally kicking in, sometimes these things do take time. I wonder how much influence he might of had in our acquisition of Ross Barkley also, owing to his well known Chelsea connections.
Just maybe some people on here were being a little bit over critical of the guy.

Couldn’t agree more Mark

I was One who criticised Terry wandering what his role was on the training pitch when we were conceding left right and centre.

Like the old saying “ Rome wasn’t built in a day “ and these things do take time

Don’t underestimate the impact Craig Shakespeare has had a very very good coach ( underrated in my opinion )

I was one of them Mark, and I know others were as well.
And I personally don`t think he needed a lot anyway, he has always been a good C/ B.
Confidence helps, and he is now playing in a side in form, with a very good keeper behind him, it does make a difference.
I am still not convinced with Terry, he does his bit yes, BUT.

Think we've all had a pop at Terry, especially last season, me included but if its finally starting to bear fruit then fair play to him. Also can't remember exactly what forum I've seen it on but somebody has nick named Trezeguet Trez Bremner. Now there was an unsung hero of the glory days 👍.

Des Bremner, fantastic, looks like one of the chuckle brothers now, Frank Carrodus was another, worked like trojans but never noticed.

He's certainly risen to the challenge of Traore that's for sure plus like Bremner he's playing in front of a winger turned full back also this season ends in a 1. Could history repeat itself? 🤔🤞 I'll check what the tea leaves say but the portents are ominous 👍😁.

I’m another who had a go at Terry and maybe it is that it has taken time for him to gets his views across, but I think it is more likely a combination things Smith becoming tactically more savvy at premier level, the team getting more astute in terms of game management, the influence of Craig Shakespeare as well an an influx of quality recruits all, including Terry’s influence has had a real positive impact on both performance and results.

I think we started improving defensively after the lockdown, which was before Shakespeare and the new recruits. I can understand why people don’t want to give Terry credit, especially with is affections for Chelsea being so evident. It’s food for thought though isn’t it, just how much of the improvement is down to him.
I would add that having Martinez in goal has made a huge difference. I really believe that his presence has breathed confidence into the whole team but particularly the back four. A lot of people frowned at the idea of spending a big chunk of the transfer kitty on a goalkeeper, I would be surprised if they’re still frowning.

Mark I agree we got better defensively after lockdown but we weren’t shutting teams out like we are now, and we didn’t look confident that we could keep clean sheets either, that has changed radically in my opinion since the start of the new season and I agree part of that confidence comes from Martinez but I think the whole squad have seen what the club have done through the summer and seem to be buying into what the current coaching regime are doing and improved results and performance are flowing from it long may it continue. 9 more wins and we should be safe 🤣🤣.

The defence is looking a lot better but I think it is a combination of things. Since lockdown there has been more fight but also Luiz is playing a heck of a lot better so protecting the defence more. Konsa has improved beyond all recognition and the defence was sat in front of Reina - a bit dodgy at time but must give you a lot more confidence. And this season so far we are more of a threat up front which takes a heck of a lot of pressure off the defence.
When we went 1-0 up i thought we would hang on - how many of us could have said that last year.
Confidence is up and it is all working smoothly, at the moment.
