When you buy any asset in any walk of life you have had a good deal if this appreciates in value. McGinn was a great example could be as much as 1500% increase. I just wonder what we would get back for our circa 120million spent this season, I doubt very much if we tried to sell everyone we bought based on current form we wouldn't get our money back. So did we buy wisely?

Are you joking or being serious here? It was only last month everyone was saying how most players had doubled their value. How out of touch can you be.

Agree chris, that is ludicrous scotty.
I have no doubt we would get over 100 mil for five defensive players, Engels, Guilbert, Mings, Konsa, Nakamba.

I might break it down player by player to show how mental that is.

Let's see your fantasy figures then, I think you and Dave are overly optimistic if you think valuations would be double what we paid. If these players have doubled in value whilst we are towards the bottom of the league, I think your assertions are more "ludicrous" than mine.

To be honest Dave I don’t even think he believes that dribble, it’s not worth the bite.

I couldn’t help myself, Whilst all transfer depend on what people are willing to pay, I’ll use as recent as possible examples to prove your idiocy.

Kourtney Hause: we benefitted massively from having a buy out clause input at the start of his loan, signed for 3 million, based off his performances in the championship alone, and the price of similar age Matt Clarke whom had no championship experience or top flight and went for 6mil, baring in mind Hause was key in getting us promoted, mostly championship clubs would be interested and a fee of 6mil plus would be more than fair. Doubled our money.

Jota: whilst saving on wages we will have lost money on him.

Heaton: signed for 6.5 million, won’t have lost any money on him, we got a good deal for an England international of his quality due to burnley having 3 high quality first team keepers, you’d imagine we would get minimum 8million.

Engels: signed for 7.5million, absolute steel, earned brilliant reviews and proved he can play at the top level, minimum doubled our money, if not more. You look at the market for centre backs, we’d be poor negotiators if we got less than 20 million.

El Ghazi: 8million, same as hause, benefitted from putting in the buy out clause before hand, now a winger who was instrumental in a promotion winning side, and proved he can play premier league, scoring and assisting a few already, to what level we will see but when you see Tom lawerence being sold for 15 million, el ghazi would be demanding at least double what we paid.

Trez: 9 million, on brilliant form at the minute, gone from a winger in turkey to a winger who can play premier league and score/ create goals, even against top level opponents. Wingers like that, similar to el ghazi are getting you minimum 15 million.

Nakamba: 10million, playing that Kante/ Gueye role his stats speak for themselves, wouldn’t be short of suitors, and you’d be looking at at least double your money, when you look at the price of say lemina and others recently.

Konsa: we actually paid quite a bit, believed to be 11.5 million, but his young English and put in some brilliant performances off late, come the end of the season if he keeps getting chances, his price shouldn’t be short of 20 million.

Targett: similar time Konsa, 13 million, a bit older but also played well this season, wouldn’t lose a penny of him and give some of his form he’d be looking at 15 million.

Douglas Luiz: paid a decent fee 15 million, but now a full Brazilian international, scored a few stunners and showed good all round play whilst still adapting, wouldn’t lose a penny on him.

Mings: signed for 20 million, after recent add ons, made some mistakes but now a full england international, would make our money back on that alone. Showing injury problems are behind him, wouldn’t lose money.

Wesley: 23 million, struggles of late but on track to get 10+ goals just about, since signing has become a Brazilian international, being fair you’d imagine despite being an international unless he does break double figures, teams won’t pay more than 15, but if he does and gets a few more caps for Brazil, we’d make our money back.

Figures are from transfermarkt, and where I could I backed up with recent examples.

Now without getting personal because it’s all opinions, what is your aim here, even when we were on 8,9,10 game run last year you were negative, we lose to a team competing in Europe in our first season back in the prem and once again your back at it! You must have some self awareness to read your posts and think I’m very much glass half full.

And before you claim it’s being realistic, it’s not, it’s just being anti, nearly every post from you is anti Villa, you mention you go to games but I don’t see how you can and be this out of touch with the game. Are you 8 pints deep by the time you get there?

Take a look at the league table, if the current team is worth in excess of £240 million, why don't results and performances reflect this talent.

After Leicester we have a good run of games, no team has played more of the top teams than us and we're outside that bottom 3.
Do the business over Christmas and we could be floating 9th-13th with a decent gap.
Most of the top half have between 2-5 players that could make that 240mill, Chris is floating it around 8-10 players.
You keep yammering on about the money spent. Spending that money across 10-12 players like we did meant we weren't going to get players to achieve top billing. Even Burnley have spent that sort of money or even more on that number of players but they have been in a position to do it over a number of years, a luxury we did not have.
120mill in todays market is nothing so stop looking through 30 year old glasses (in reference to your previous comments) .

I think if that’s all you can come up with, it settles the argument, next time you want to spout some rubbish, out more effort in.

Also your maths is absolutely horrendous, the figures I put down don’t even come close to 240million, shows the strength of your argument.

"Doubled their value" were your words not mine. When you have a debate in any walk of life the minute you resort to insults it totally negates any validity of the discussion. My original post was for discussion and I would not of expected personal insults. You do it with anyone who has the audacity to have an opinion or view that differs with yours. You have done it with me, class of 82, wtw, tindy, villa daz and a few more. I know for sure many of those I refer to spend more time and money following the villa probably a lot more than many on here and that commitment gives people the right to voice their opinions and that's what they are opinions, not right or wrong, just personal views. Read my original post, it was a view for discussion not to be ridiculed or vilified. So please listen to those on here who are entitled to an honest opinion and keep your insults to yourself.

Going back to the original point. It almost always takes time for assets in football to appreciate in value due to the change in league/ style etc.
The players were bought for the long term and realistically while a couple will be lower in value that will be balanced out by the others (Nakamba, El Ghazi, Konsa, Engels mainly going up) so I certainly would not say we wouldn't get our money back on them at this stage.
You are being too short-termist and never balance with anything positive with your views and debates which is what riles people.
Aguero dropped in value when he first came into the league and look at him now. Not every player reaches their top level immediately but at least they are trying.

Where have I insulted you on this post Scott? Highlight it. Because you keep mentioning debate but now you’ve gone of on a tangent and not provided any sort of response, I wonder why that is.

All you have come back with is, is that if the value is 240 million why does the league table look as it does. Now that is poor, is shows you haven’t actually read the responses to your post, or my break down, as it was circa 160million, no where near 240.

Now you’ve switched your point saying I’m being personal, in this thread I have said, your point is out of touch with the game, your maths is poor, the original point is rubbish and you maybe 8 pints deep when you get to a game. The title of the page is “villa banter”, if any of that is too much for you or anyone else, let me know and I’ll spectate, but to me, if someone said any of those things about me, I’d laugh and respond, it’s not that serious.
When you make a point, if you want debate as you have said, at the very least put some effort into explaining it and backing it up with evidence, and when people respond, against your point with facts and figures, don’t just go off on a tangent because you can’t back up your point.
