Hey Ed, any truth behind these Douglas rumours. I thought he was on his way to Newcastle. {Ed043's Note - i doubt these are going to be true, if he is going to leave twente its more likely to be to newcastle}

Believable4 Unbelievable5

Why do you consider Newcastle more attractive proposition than us. They have 1 good season in the last 15 and you seem to think that they are a top club - I think last season was the first they finished above us for about 12 seasons, for god sake they were a championship side 3 seasons ago (and we relegated them). Please don't give me the "because they are in Europe" old chestnut, as FC Twente have been in Europe for the last 5 seasons so he would get that staying put. Furthermore, if Cabaye, Cisses and Tiote play as well this season as last, Newcastle won't be able to keep hold of them. Newcastle are no further forward than we are in development terms, and where are the youngsters coming through in their team which will become massively important once Fair Play rules come in? I do not accept this Newcastle being more attractive than us argument and neither should any villa fan fall for it

Agree9 Disagree19

Newcastle have been after him from the start of the transfer window and he hasn't yet gone anywhere which throws the possibility he doesn't want to go to Newcastle or even the premier league

Agree3 Disagree4

Newcastle have offered £5m ,Villa are believed to be ready to offer £7m

Agree4 Disagree6

Stop deluding yourself! Any player coming from abroad is going to look at villa an look at newcastle an choose newcastle player dont care where a club was 30years ago or even 3years ago! Players care where a club is, an where a club is going! If Douglas has a choice over villa or newcastle, he wouls choose newcastle all day long!

Agree18 Disagree7

Paul Lambert is a better manager than Alan Pardew - it will just be interesting to see where Newcastle finish as when Pardew had a good season at West Ham, they nearly got relegated the following season and he got the sack

Agree7 Disagree15

Players from outside the uk look at newcastle and don't want to move there. Really, they all want to live nr London or Manchester. If they do go to Newcstle, their wives can't wait to leave!

Agree5 Disagree14

Personally i dont rate Alan pardew but to say Lambert is a "better" manager than pardew is a silly thing to say! What has lambert achieved as a manager? He has a lot to prove! Just like pardew had a lot to prove when appointed as newcastle boss. >scg87

Agree15 Disagree3

Lambert has achieved back to back promotions followed by a comfortable premier league finish.

Agree2 Disagree2

Where would that leave clarke if he did join I'd rather play Clarke tbh although I'm a big admirer of Douglas dunne and baker as good backup I can see baker leaving in January tbh. A lb is all we need at the back a right winger and a striker. And a young player we could bring off the bench.

Agree12 Disagree0

3 promotions in 3 seasons maybe?
And finishing mid table with a club that his Championship players.

Agree3 Disagree13

What has lambert acheived?? Well back to back promotions from league 1 and finishing 12th in his first season in the premier with a team that pundits predicted to be relegated so that is one hell of an acheivement! Don't get me wrong pardew done great but out of the 2 lambert has acheived more.

Agree4 Disagree4

What has lambert achieved are u jokin in 3 consecitive seasons with norwich he won 2 promotions then finished 12 in premier leage with a side that had no big names he is a great man manager. and trust me villa is a steppin stone for lambert he will end up at a top club.

Agree2 Disagree10

Your right Lambert does have 2 promotions but pardew has 2 promotions, FA cup runners up medal and a football league trophy! Not to mention a mid table finish 2 seasons ago when most expected newcastle would get relegated and a supurb 2011-12 season so the facts back up my point! I fully expect PL to be a success at villa but to say PL is a 'better' manager than pardew is nonsense!

The hardest thing in football is to achieve when there is high expectation an when the pressure is on! PL had very little expectation at norwich so now is going to be the real test to his capabilities as a manager at a big club, where the pressure is on! >scg87

Agree10 Disagree1

To the person who said PL has had 3 promotions, check your facts pal, PL has had 2 promotions! An you'll find pardew has had 2 promotions aswell!

Agree13 Disagree0

Getting promotions from lower leagues dont mean anythin! Warnock an Holloway have quite a few promotions between them but they are not seen as top managers

Agree12 Disagree1

If we look at the promotions an trophies that PL an pardew have won then pardew has achieved more. I think lambert will be a top manager but at this moment he hasnt YET proved he's a top manager. Villa is 1 of the biggest clubs in world football so expectations are immense compared to norwich! Some could say PL had first season syndrome in his first season in prem same goes for rodgers. It would have been interesting to see if PL an rodgers could have done the same in the 2nd season at norwich an swansea, im not convinced they would have! They probably would have got relegated especially norwich

Agree12 Disagree1

Pardew has managed 3 or 4 big clubs where expectation are bigger so he's proved already he can with stand that kind of pressure. PL an AP have similar records as managers but pardew has taken a couple of his teams to cup finals ie southampton an west ham

Agree12 Disagree1

Cisse will be gone by January. Ba lost it towards the end of last year. Cabaye and Ben arfa carry there midfield. Collocini is the only decent defender they have. With an of form ba nd Cisse going they will have no chance

Agree0 Disagree11

Cisse goin nowhere. ba lost it towards end of season because he got pushed out on the wing also he aint goin anywhere as his contract claws date has just gone so if some1 wants him they will have to pay big. as for cabaye and ben arfa carryin there midfield wot do u expect them to do??? also newcastle had 1 of best defences in prem last season that wasnt all down to collocini.

Agree9 Disagree0

Why the big 'who has the best manager' discussion. Bith are quality managets. Enough said.
As for picking holes in the Newcastle team id much prefer their swuad to ours. Cisse looks a player, Ba has shown his wuality, Ktul could fast become the top keeper in the league and Ben Arfa n Cabaye r class acts who would boss most midfields. Pardew has worked womders there n good luck to you
Hope u have another top.season.

Agree5 Disagree0

. Cabeye. Ben Arfa "carry there midfield" are you forgeting about Tiote? newcastle have 5 players carrying them colochini, tiote, cabeye, cisse an ben arfa An from statements them players have made they are staying at newcastle! I wish villa had 5 players carrying us! Lmao. Maybe they should watch the games from the stands next season instead of "carrying" them! Haha. >scg87

Agree8 Disagree0

Krul ,Collicini Tiote Cabaye Ben Arfa Ba, Cisse probably all worth 15/20m plus and then Santon Steve taylor Ryan taylor Marveaux all class we are light years behind them we even tried to buy Simpson who they dont want

ESPN reporting Lerner has sold the Browns for over a billion dollars. Not sure what/if there will be any implications for Villa (nothing explicitly mentioned). But I did like this quote:
"Some fans have been unhappy with Randy Lerner, long criticizing him as a disengaged owner of a club....".
Sound familiar?

Believable1 Unbelievable4

We won't getting Randy investing billions of dollars into the villa - lets just be sensible and let Lambert sort out the playing side from the mess of the last three years...

Agree8 Disagree3

Guys does anyone else believe we only need another 3/4 players to turn us back into a top 6side. A left back a right back a mid field ball winner and a quality striker and I think we will be there or there abouts

Agree8 Disagree2

I reckon El Ahmady is that ball winner in midfield! He reminds me of O. Hargreaves, he's quick, he tackles, he's aggresive, he can pick a pass an i think he'll be the engine in the midfield that we havnt had since G. Barry left!

Yeah To be a top 6 team i think 4 more players will do it, a LB, RB, Winger, ST. I would have liked us to sign N Clyne but since he's signed for southampton, Naughton would be my choice, Olsson,
A Johnson an Defoe would get us competing in the top 6 for certain. I know A. Johnson is probabley unlikely to happen but still we should make a serious attempt at signing him. Me just dreaming maybe. Lol

In saying all that, signing cresswell at LB an Brahimi as Winger an a striker, who ever it might be would have us competing in the top 10 an providing we play the right style of football id be happy with that>scg87

Agree12 Disagree0

Agree with you there! Almadi is class & better than JM was for Villa! bargain!

Agree4 Disagree0

You havent even seen el ahmadi play in the premier league dont jump to conclusions

Agree1 Disagree4

We need another cb for sure, collins and cuellar have left and dunne is getting old. We can't expect Vlaar to carry the defense, although Clark is a quality player.

Agree0 Disagree6

I havnt seen him play in the prem of course but i have seen him play in eradivisie an against burton.

I was just pointing out that i like the look of him an i dont need to see him play in the prem to see that he glides about the pitch with ease an has ability in attack an defence. >scg87

Agree3 Disagree0

Dunne and baker are cover for cb we don't need another if worst comes to worst play that young Irish lad he's decent Williams I think it is

Agree7 Disagree0

Williams? Or do you mean enda stevens? >scg87

Aston Villa are being linked with a move for Douglas Texeira

Makoun linked with a move to Rennes

Believable5 Unbelievable6

Douglas if we get him I'll be chuffed. Not to bothered about makoun as he can't talk English yet. Feel sorry for him about the whole commotion with his dad nd that.

Twitter rumours are currently that we are in for Hernandez from Yernited and a return for Milner as much as I would love them to happen I can't see it unfortunately.

Believable6 Unbelievable5

As much as I would like to see Milner back I don't think it will happen.

Agree10 Disagree2

Milner link comes every transfer window

another win for lamberts lions.

Love the way the squad is gelling. Is it me or is this the best squad of players we have had in a long time ?

Believable5 Unbelievable8

Its just you pal. Lol. Nah far to early to say how good we are! Keeping in mind its pre-season and the poor opposition we've been playing.

There are good signs though! Im impressed with how quick the style of football has changed almost over night, no more lumping the ball 40 yards an surpassing the midfield so im convinced we will be playing entertaining football at the very least.>scg87

Agree10 Disagree0

It's just you overreacting to a half decent pre season. The mon days had a lot better squad although he had dojo clue what to do with wage

Agree10 Disagree1

Why was gary gardner not playing ?

Agree2 Disagree0

He went over on his ankle in training nothing serious

Hi ed I know most villa fans are pleased with the business that pl has done but I think we need at least another forward plus 2 defenders and I would love to see another winger and a midfielder coming in but I just can't see us doing that our mid field don't get enough goals and we need them to chip in this season and I know most won't agree with me but I'd buy anther 1st choice keeper too given has gone down hill since what happened to his close pal Gary speed(legend) I'd just like to see what you think about the villa team and what else needs to be added

Believable3 Unbelievable12

Given was class last year stfu. I don't think he crys everyday over speeds death and affects him when he's on the pitch it's just plain stupidity the point you brought up

Agree12 Disagree1

Personally think that without Given in goal last season we would have been relegated he was making 2 or 3 top class saves almost every game. An 3 of the last 5 games we would have lost if not for given! >scg87

Agree7 Disagree0

His save against West Brom kept us up
